Fanatec revealed new hardware today, but the most interesting announcements for GTPlanet readers are surprising updates to the company’s officially-licensed Gran Turismo wheels and wheel bases which will be delivered via free software updates.

First up is power upgrades. Both the Fanatec ClubSport DD and DD+ (affiliate links) wheel bases will receive a boost to maximum torque. The DD jumps from 12 Nm to 15 Nm, while the DD+ jumps from 15 Nm to 18 Nm. The company’s Gran Turismo DD Extreme bundle includes the DD+ wheel base, so it will now feature 18 Nm of torque as well.

Even more surprising, Fanatec is adding support for its high-frequency FullForce effects to the older and cheaper CSL and Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel bases. The Gran Turismo DD Pro features only 5 Nm or 8 Nm of torque (depending on which power supply you’re using with it), so the higher-frequency details will certainly be welcome.

FullForce was added to Gran Turismo 7’s Spec III update and really does add nice additional detail to the force feedback sensation, so this is definitely an upgrade GT DD Pro wheel owners will want to jump on.

The new features will be applied with a firmware update set for release next week.

In other news from today’s announcement, Fanatec revealed a new ClubSport Formula V3 wheel and the Fanatec Wheel Hub, which allows third-party wheel rims to connect to Fanatec Q2-compatible wheel bases.
