If this makes it Stateside, consider me sold. I really wanted to get F1 '05, but learned I'd have to import it.

I love the old F1 Championship Season games EA used to sell here, I still play Championship Season 2000. I hope that those images were of the PSP version. If not I won't purchase it even if it IS available here.

Does anyone know of UK Import websites that import to the US?

I imported F1 05 but I simply cant remember the website I ordered from or find any papers that would have the information.

Any help here?

Well it was released here in the UK today and I just went out, bought it and did a quick race at Monaco. Just as enjoyable as all the other F1 games.

For those who played F1 05 and remember the interactive button pressing pitstops, they are back, just with MORE buttons to press as tyre changes are back with 06 rules. Handling of the car is smooth and motion blur is included as you accelerate.

I'll probably start career tonight.

I also bought it this morning. Much better than 05, the graphics are around the same as 05, the sound is absolutely brilliant! the sounds from car to car are noticable, specially with the toro rosso. Formation laps are in afaik (selected parade laps option in the menu) and so far, career is very tough, took me an hour to get a test driver role with Toro Rosso. Car performance is noticable, this shows in the trials for midland and aguri at Silverstone, in the aguri i was required to do a 1'24.8 to pass, i could only manage a 1'25.0..whereas in the Midland the pass time was 1'23.3 and only managed a 1'23.6, so clearly a huge difference in car performance. Toro Rosso test i did was 10 laps of Magny cours and had to beat the time once and it was a 1'16.8 and did a 1'16.7!

Havn't gone any further, read the news items (which are long and well done btw), the latest news item on there was about super aguri finally filling their second driver spot and how i snubbed them for Toro Rosso:p. Very cool stuff:D

Now, in my first 3rd driver duty i must test aerodynamics ahead of the first grand prix:D

Highly recommended!

Surprised there isn't more about this game than 10 posts. It seemed like a big deal to me anyway :)

Anyway, I've been reading up to it and wondering if it's worth all the hype:
- Competitive AI? Can it make mistakes?
- How's the damage? (random failures? i'm a masochist :sly: )
- Hard? Easy? Good learning curve? I'm an F1 n00b mainly because we haven't had much out in the US for a while but I want to get into it after the slight dissapointment of TOCA 3 (but that's another topic)

I'm considering getting it but I don't know if it's worth the 80, 90-ish bucks I'll have to shell out for an import game and whatever it needs to run on a NTSC PS2 :dunce: C'mon Sony, just cause our F1 race at Indy sucked last year doesn't mean there's not an F1 market...

Thanks!

Competitive AI and making mistakes - The AI is mightily competitive, very good ai, they will fight you and will look for every oppurtunity to overtake you. As for making mistakes yes they can make mistakes, in a grand prix weekend i did, i saw a williams and a red bull crash into eachother. Theres a so called pressure system but havnt seen many effects of it yet.

Damage/failures - The damage is great! Now if you crash, you crash, tyres go flying, debris goes everywhere, your wings come off, basically you total your car. Havnt had a failure yet but havnt played it much, i have seen a few AI cars drop out with engine failures though.

Hard/easy - Hard, theres no questioning its harder than 05, and the learning curve, imo, depends on if you have played F1 05 or 04, as the cars felt completely different, in a good way, feels more simulation like, and is a simulation. If its the first F1 game you have had in a while, the learning curve will probably be a bit steeper than for those who have played one recently.

Other things - The sounds is amazing, the Toro Rosso sounds like a resctricted V10 which is nice and each car has its own distinct engine sound. Some interesting race options ahead of races and career mode, grid walk, grid overview, parade lap and an option to show podium sequences or not to watch them. A suprising upside, commentary and pit crew radio talk. James Allen and Martin Brundle are great, immerses you more into the broadcasting side of the game while the pit radio immerses you into the driver side. No more of that copy/paste stuff it seems, everything goes well and just blends in nicely. Like in a test for STR i had to beat lap times set by Scott Speed, and the pit guy was saying stuff like "Thats Scotts fastest sector 1 so far!" and when Scott beat my time he went "Great lap Scott thats the fastest lap so far!" So some nice touches. Also, ive mentioned these before, 3D kerbs, they are very good, each kerb pretty mmuch accurately represented, i havnt done imola yet but thats next on the agenda in career (tyre compound testing).

All i can say to Americans and Canadians, import this game dammit! Its worth every penny, especially if you havnt had a good, realistic F1 game for a while.

Wow, sounds like a much better game than F105. I’ll get it soon if I can (I should get paid soon, so I should be able to grab it).

I like that the testing seems a lot more detailed than before. I mean testing tyres? Testing aero? This is more like it!

Yeah the testing is very good, done on the Friday practice sessions of the GPs. Having to do 3 consecutive laps faster than the target time in 10-15 minutes out on the track si a good challenge, and you have to do it more than once with the different setups the engineer gives you.

Ash, for career what difficulty did you select?

come on tell us more .... is there commentary in career mode? it was lacking this in F1 05 , could you take the field in a Jordan like in F1 05 ? what kind of indicators do you have avaliable , tire use ....ect ? anything new you've discovered?

I couldn't say if commentary is in career mode as i havnt had a race in my career yet, pit radio is in career mode however i know that for definate so far. By taking the field in a jordan i assume you mean overtaking the entire field in a Midland:p This is one thing i experimented with in grand prix mode on hard, imn short, no, i just scraped past the aguris at the start and that wasnt until after turn 1 that i managed to clear them both, the midlands were just ahead of me and the other Toro Rosso (me being the first) was creeping away. The HUD is pretty good, tyre use, fuel use, damage, speed, revs, the usual and official timing displays, shows the i think its 32 cars ahead and 2 cars behind. The laop counter is at the top and counts the laps down like on TV.

Other than the usual (damage etc) Formation laps are new, the interactive pit stops are insane, you have 2 new legends cars at the start, cooper climax and lotus 72c, testing in career is revamped and anything else i find i will update you with.

I think what BMW318ciC meant was “Is it easy to win in a car like a Super Aguri?”

Also, is the McLaren livery improved from the initial screen shots?

I have mine on order, should get it within a week or so. :D

it seems great , do you have to warm up your tires in the formation lap?

Yep you do.

I really wouldnt have thought so, from what ive seen in races so far (first lap of silverstone in GP weekend mode) in a Toro Rosso from the back of the grid, i really wouldnt think you could win in a super aguri..

As for the McMerc livery...no basically lol, doesnt look anything like the chromness of the real one. Which is a shame. Toro Rosso looks great though as do the car shapes.

I'll be picking this puppy up as soon as I see it again. I saw it on Thursday but I already felt bad because I have to shell out $1000 soon for rims for my car, and it's my brothers birthday tomorrow.

Right, sounds like a great game I'll definitely have to pick it up. BTW if anyone's interested in a really big F1 06 community I highly suggest you check out the forums at f1gamers.com . Lots of info there.

Anyway, one more quick import-minded question: Is there a language option in the options menu (i.e. change from English to Japanese or Spanish, etc.)? Just asking because right now I'm looking at having to import F1-06 from Japan since they use the NTSC format also. Thanks!

Their is usually a language menu before you do anything in F1 games.
