That time trial thread caused me to regain interest in the game so I started a new career. Hard difficulty, 10% race distance.

I went for the Super Aguri trial and beat the time over a single lap at Magny-Cours by about 2 seconds and was offered the second driver role.

At Bahrain I got into the to top 10 in qualifying, but whenever race distance is scaled so much the third session is pretty difficult because it’s bloody hard to have a competitive lap with 30 laps of fuel on-board so I just left it at 10th. At the end of the first lap I was in 2nd, and by the end of the 2nd lap I was first. I was pretty comfortably in the lead after the stops and won by 3.5s over MSC.

When we got to Malaysia I put the car on 12th position on the grid. Webber got pole followed by Rosberg. I moved up to 3rd by the first corner, and followed Rosberg for the rest of the lap. On the exit of the last corner I got a good exit and passed him. I spent the next two laps following Mark, but he was pulling away. The pit stops came on lap 3 and I made up a second in pit-entry by being rather aggressive. Had a swift pit-stop at 7.4s and managed to move ahead of Webber. Alonso pitted the next lap and came out in second, but was behind me. I won the race by 1.5s.

Now I want a real team to offer me a job. I’d like to have a car with, you know, power.

Okay, I got back into F106 a few days ago and continued from the Australian GP. Today I finished the season.

I got an offer for RBRs 2nd driver and took that for the Hungarian GP, leaving Super Aguri with 2 wins and 26 points. I got a podium on debut and continued to get solid results for the rest of the season, including a win in China.

I then got promoted to first driver and continued to get solid points finishes, and I finished the season in 8th with 55 points (I think).

I'm happy with the season, but I think I'll have to take RBRs contract offer of 2nd driver for S2 because there's nothing better.

EDIT: Season 2 Update

I won Bahrain, got a points finish in Malaysia (bad race, I spun from a podium placing), got podiums in Australia and Imola (3rd and 2nd respectively), then got signed by Toyota for the European GP, which I won (thanks to Fisichella having an engine failure). I now lead the championship by 11 points.

It seems my last post was wrong, I forget to save!

i re-did Bahrain and came 7th. Won at Malaysia. Crashed at Melbourne, I really hate that track.

I like this game. Oh and listening to Led Zep while learning the track>*

The GP on the weekend inspired me to continue my F1 career after not playing the game since mid-to-late last year.

I found myself in Shanghai and had the most unfortunate race. I started from 10th (I got lazy at the end of Q2) and I wasn't sure if I had the warm-up lap on or off, so I was revving my engine and the lights went out and I just sat there for a second while the other cars blew me away and I ended up back in 14th or 15th.

On the way to the first hairpin I found myself getting a little too close to one of the other drivers, I gained a little more speed and thought I had passed him, so I attempted to move to the inside and at that point I had found I hadn't completely passed the other driver and I found myself skimming across the grass on the inside of the hairpin, then came to a stop on the otherside of the track where I sat untill 20th place passed.

The previous incident left me with a damaged front wing and right front so I headed back to the pits as fast as I possibly could, which was no where near as fast as the back-runners. So I took my stop, everything went well and I spent the rest of the race driving as hard as I could.

Pitting lap 2 meant my tyres ended up wearing a fair bit nearing the end of the race, but I still pushed as hard as I could and suprisingly my times didn't drop too drastically. By the second to last lap I ended up in 11th and easily passed 9th and 10th on the back and main straights.

Final lap came and I was on the tail of David Coulthard in 8th, who was very close to Mark Webber ahead of him, so I was looking for a decent 2 points. I spent the first sector just following Coulthard, waiting for a good pass. Near the end of the 2nd sector I found the perfect pass, accelerating out of a double apex hairpin, unfortunatly for me, I tapped his rear left and I swerved into the grass alongside the straight. At first I thought I still had the chance to get Coulthard, but probably not Webber, then I got hit by the damn penalty system, I was limited for 6 seconds which seemed like forever.

Thanks to that penalty I finished the race in 11th. Still, it was very fun race. I really enjoyed making my way up the field, I find it much funner to be the one catching up, rather than running away.

I was going to write about the next two races, but I didn't expect my story to be as long as it is. But for those who are interested, I drove terribly again in Japan and finished in 9th, just missing out on 8th place by a 10th of a second. Brazil was piss easy and I finished with a 23 second lead.

Oh, thought I had mentioned that, I was driving for Ferrari. If it was a smaller team I bet I would've found myself in more trouble, not being able to catch up as well as I did.

I was hoping I'd get an offer from a smaller team at the end of the season, just for a bit of a challenge, but all I got was a contract renewal and an offer from Renault.

I seem to either be 1-1.5 seconds a lap quicker than anyone else or be in the midfield somewhere on my weaker tracks: Barcelona, Monaco, Australia, Silverstone. I won at the Nurb earlier by about 16 seconds over Alonso, MS retired (I'm at Ferrari also) and I'm now 5 points behind Alonso (37, that's 32 for me...). Barca is next. I'd be happy with any podium.

The rain at Interlagos caught me out. Going into final race: MS 115 pts, Me 112pts, Alonso 112 pts.

Alonso retires. I'm about 10 seconds in-front and it starts to rain.

Everyone pits but I decide to eek it out. Coming into pits I lose control and am forced to retire...

Ah well. I will win it next year.

My copy has various bugs in it like registering top laptimes of a couple of seconds and sound disappearing. Anyone experienced the same thing?

I know the lap times are very silly, not noticed the sound. That said, not played the game in a while.

Me neither, we both play F1CE, right? Still, I came to think about this and since the same software is simply burnt onto many discs and sold, many should probably have this problem. Meaning, even if I try to go out and buy another copy just because I want to have a functioning one (even though I don't play it :)), my chances are slim of getting a properly working one?

Cracking game, helped by my purchase of a Williams F1 Steering wheel, which absolutely rocks!

The game itself is brilliant, only been doing Time Trials and one Grand prix so far to get used to it.

Great stuff.
Have you ever tried to hook up your Williams F1 wheel with F1CE and made it work? I tried but no luck so far. Do you know (or anyone else) whether the F1 2006 got FF now as well?

I don't recall having that lap time bug (it's been a while since I've played F106) but the sound did disappear occasionally. I think going into the pause menu helped, I'm not sure though.

Not racing sounds I should add. Commentary disappeared to the extent that when it actually popped up eventually now and then I was like "What?! Is there commentary in this game??!"
