Competitive AI and making mistakes - The AI is mightily competitive, very good ai, they will fight you and will look for every oppurtunity to overtake you. As for making mistakes yes they can make mistakes, in a grand prix weekend i did, i saw a williams and a red bull crash into eachother. Theres a so called pressure system but havnt seen many effects of it yet.

Damage/failures - The damage is great! Now if you crash, you crash, tyres go flying, debris goes everywhere, your wings come off, basically you total your car. Havnt had a failure yet but havnt played it much, i have seen a few AI cars drop out with engine failures though.

Hard/easy - Hard, theres no questioning its harder than 05, and the learning curve, imo, depends on if you have played F1 05 or 04, as the cars felt completely different, in a good way, feels more simulation like, and is a simulation. If its the first F1 game you have had in a while, the learning curve will probably be a bit steeper than for those who have played one recently.

Other things - The sounds is amazing, the Toro Rosso sounds like a resctricted V10 which is nice and each car has its own distinct engine sound. Some interesting race options ahead of races and career mode, grid walk, grid overview, parade lap and an option to show podium sequences or not to watch them. A suprising upside, commentary and pit crew radio talk. James Allen and Martin Brundle are great, immerses you more into the broadcasting side of the game while the pit radio immerses you into the driver side. No more of that copy/paste stuff it seems, everything goes well and just blends in nicely. Like in a test for STR i had to beat lap times set by Scott Speed, and the pit guy was saying stuff like "Thats Scotts fastest sector 1 so far!" and when Scott beat my time he went "Great lap Scott thats the fastest lap so far!" So some nice touches. Also, ive mentioned these before, 3D kerbs, they are very good, each kerb pretty mmuch accurately represented, i havnt done imola yet but thats next on the agenda in career (tyre compound testing).

Is this on the PS2 or PSp version? and is all of the same features the same on PSP?

I can only imagine how thin thing will be on PS3 :D , I think it will have more features too (more disk space ) I read tht some where but nore sre whre

Mine is based on the PS2 version which i have, but, afaik, the psp version is identical, minus formation laps.

Damnit. The cars feel like they do in F104 – really slow to turn in. I’m finding myself piling on the front springs to get some bite out of the front end.

This is a really tough game I can't get the times in all the trails , I'm using DFP and its so much fun , will have to keep trying :D , how do you warm up your front tire in the parade lap ? you can't turn much , I could heat up the rear wheels by spinning them and lowering traction

I just finished my first season with Super Aguri, only raced since Monaco and had 4 or 5 retirements, now i am Williams Test driver but i dont think i will get very far as i have to get 5 personal and 5 team test wins!

The latest for me, seeing as Ash is updating all on his season..... up until canada I was 1st driver for Midland, have now taken a contract with Toyota to be their test driver in the hopes of getting into a more powerful car later for next season.

Career Diary: Blake Haswell

My manager arranged a test for me with MF1 at Magny Cours. When I arrived at the circuit I was briefed, then strapped into the car. I was told that I had 10 laps with the car to show them what I was made of.

I found that the first time you drive a Formula 1 car is a lot like the first time you have sex. You’re excited but you don’t really know what the hell you’re doing. And, one way or another, it's over way too fast.

It was a circuit I hadn’t raced on for some time, so my first few laps were spent relearning the track, and figuring out how to drive a Formula 1 car. Soon I was starting to push the limits of the car, and I had two off-track moments at the first corner while trying to get a fast exit onto the long straight.

I started putting some fast laps times in, but all too soon my first adventure in a Formula 1 car was over as I was told to bring the car in. After that test session I was debriefed, and I was given the opportunity to sign as a test driver for the season. I quickly called my manager, and put pen to paper.

It was a good feeling to know I’d be able to drive that car all year.

well I barlely can get good lap times even with virtual race line there :( , any tips? I'm a test driver for Aguri , and have one personal test win and already faile dthe aero test in bahrain , no I have a camber test in Sepang

3-Wheel Drive
Will it be available for the US?
All I can suggest to US rally and F1 fans is to write to SCEA and request that they release this type of game here.

I wrote to them this week, to at least let them know that there is at least one player out there who wants these games and for them to explain why they don't release them here (to get their official response in writing). Putting pressure on SCEE apparently helped them release Prologue in Europe, so maybe if enough Region 1 players request F1 and rally games, we might convince SCEA to do the same.

They obviously think there isn't a large enough market, so it is up to us to prove them wrong.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I don't think they will care much becuase there will be no regions for PS3 so your gonna get all the games you want

The new F1 game is also available now for the PS2 and PSP, though, so all of those Region 1 players are being ignored, plus the PS3 is not even available yet.

And you know from what experience, Blake?:sly:

is there a specific date it comes in canada? or will it come out the same time throughout the entire north america?

i have f1 05 and i've read about f1 06

i tried to get moto gp 4 at a discount gaming store in West Lakes, Adelaide and they just have the cases and keep the discs at the counter and they couldn't find the disc so i ended up with f1 05:grumpy: and it sucks:yuck:

Cracking game, helped by my purchase of a Williams F1 Steering wheel, which absolutely rocks!

The game itself is brilliant, only been doing Time Trials and one Grand prix so far to get used to it.

Great stuff.

So, you guys bought it via internet or via stores?

It will be available in Norway, right? :scared:

Via store and yes:D

Career update: Season 2 with Toro Rosso as first driver, up to the German grand prix and i have a totalof 10 points so far this season, 4th and the nurburgring, 6th in france and 7th at Canada. Hoping for a better offer to come along so my points can be consistent.

Allow me to make you want it more:D

Chinese GP :Season 2: Toro Rosso.

After a lacklustre performance at Monza it was on to Shagnhai, and hopefully more points. Spent around half an hour in practice fine tuning the car, eventually putting in a 1'35.9 lap time. However i would not see the 35s again for the rest of this race weekend..

Qualifying
Session 1 got underway, and as usual i went out first, Ide out behind me, so i wouldnt have any problems on the outlap at least. Crossed the line to start my flying lap, no traffic and put in a solid 1.36'7 and then on my second run a 1.36'4 which saw me nicely into session 2.
Session 2 then got underway, i adjusted my setup slightly as i thought i need a bit more speed on the straights, this gave me a 1.36'3 which put me nicely in 7th but by the time the session got to the 2/3 mark i was 11th so i headed out onto the circuit and pushed out 2 good laps, the fastest being a 1.36'1 which saw me into session 3 as 10th fastest.
Session 3 would see me stay there, the car seemed to stop working and i could only manage a 1'37.4 and ended a disappointing session in 10th.

Race
Waiting for the lights to go out, i had the inside line and started planning a move past Webber and Alonso up the inside of turn 1. The lights went out and the traction control kicked in, the tyres biting the tarmac and i shot past Webber off the start line, then Alonso under braking the narrowley moved up past a few more cars including both Mclarens who ran wide and Barrichello who seemed to hit Fisichella. I took Fisi in turn 2 and from there battle would commence. For the duration of lap 1 and lap 2 i had a fairly consistent 1-1.5 second gap on Fisi, but onwards from that he was closing in, the gap getting down to 0.1 seconds at the end of the long straight and only getting as big as 8 tenths elsewhere. This was really putting my defensive driving skills to the test. Fisi, Alonso, Montoya, Webber and Trulli were all visible and were all very close, probably only 2 second between me in 5th and Trulli in 10th, one mistake would see it crumble. My team mate Speed had retired after crashing with Ide, so it was only me on the circuit to prove the STR's speed. On lap 7 the first pit stops happened, mostly from ahead of me so this saw me move up to 2nd temporarily, 17 seconds off of Massa. Lap 8 however was my stop, Fisi had stopped on lap 7 so a quick pit stop would prove to be vital, especially as Alonso was following me into the pits. The mechanics were ready, the car went up, in went the fuel, off came the tyres, it all went perfectly, down went the car and on the power! I came out the pits well ahead of Alonso and just ahead of Fisichella. By the end of lap 9 i was half a second ahead of Fisi and Alonso, i couldnt get ahead of Montoya or Raikkonen however as they came out from their stops, i was around 1.5 off of Raikkonen with Montoya another second clear of him. And so the defensive driving ensues once more as i blocked Fisichella and alonso round the circuit again like the pitstops never happened. Only this time it was for the last points paying position, 8th. Trulli and Webber had dropped off to around a second behind and Ralf Schumacher had joined them. On lap 15 it looked as though i had lost my point, Fisi moved up the inside of turn 1, but i held my speed and line on the outside and managed to stay level, alonso also trieto get past, but i held my line and passed them again on the inside of turn 2 to stay in 8th. Alonso passed Fisi and tried to pass me into turn 7 but he couldnt get past as i blocked him off, he briefly got past in the hairpin but the acceleration of the Toro Rosso edged him out. On the last lap the gap was 7 tenths back to Fisi and Alonso who were side by side, i ran wide into turn 1 but they couldnt decide who was going first and ended up having to slow down a lot more then normal allowing me to get ahead a bit more, eventually Alonso came out in 9th and gave chase but it was too late, i had over a second ont them and i was confident they wouldnt get past. I ran wide on the final turn however and Alonso and Fisi closed right up, but i blocked him and held on for 8th but only by 0.06 ahead of fisi who got 0.02 ahead of Alonso on the straight.

And so taking my points tally up to 11 with 2 rounds to go and STR have slapped an offer on the table for next season but im gonna hold out for a better offer.

Nice write-up.

Which cars did finished in front of you?

Oh and, how's the AI in those conditions.

I remember when playing F1 2003, the Ai was really bad at the starts and overtaking, how's it in 2006?

And do they give you alot of feedback on the radio? Suchs as, nice work there!

the top 8 finished as:
1: Button
2: MS
3: Massa
4: Barrichello
5: Rosberg
6: Raikkonen
7: Montoya
8: Me

They are still a little bit slow at the starts, but its not dramatic, you wont overtake an entire field in an Aguri..heck in an Aguri you be lucky to move up one. Depends where you start really, and what car, like, a Ferrari from the back and you might make up 6 or 7 places whereas a Midland you might make up 3 or 4. The AI overtaking is good, they will look for every oppurtunity to pass so you always have to be alert, it really tests your defensive driving and makes you work hard to earn and keep your position.

The radio feedback is pretty dam good, he tells you the ovious stuff like what positions your in, but he also says stuff like, your doing well keep going or if you lose a position stuff like, its not the end of the world....yet. Its good. So is the commentary, exmaple when someone crashes he goes "Theres an incident in turn 3, ITS MONTOYA! it looks like he has lost his wing, it looks like you were involved in that incident to, you have damage to your rear wing you may need to pit in and fix it" So its good, also updates with the top 8 and yellow flag situations etc.

i really want this game.......when will it come out in North America? (Canada primarily for me)
