Is their a rule change for Monaco that make the Soft the prime and Quli the Option ties?

The two compounds used this weekend were the Softs and the Supersofts, therefore then soft tires are the hardest and last longer. The definition of prime tire is that it's the most durable. It can be soft one weekend and hard the next. And there haven't been quali tires since the early 80's. The softer of the two tires available is always the quickest, hence why they use them in qualifying.

Indeed, hope Vettel wins though, I want this man to break all records of Senna and Schumacher, I kinda feel he is "teh chosen one".:lol::lol::lol:

Ditto.

Hammy looks buggered :boggled:

He's looked like a complete amateur during the race. Even taking out Pastor Maldonado, who for once, didn't look like an amateur.

Did they just made the rule now specially for Vettel, that you can change tyres on the grid during a red flag?

See, this is why I try to stay off F1 these days. It pisses me off.

Yeah, because they tore up the rulebook 72 laps into the 6th race of the season to suit Vettel.

I believe the rules are written well before the start of the 6th race of the season.

This.

No crap, Sherlock...

I'm just saying these rules are plain stupid. And yes, I wasn't aware they could now do this. I knew F1 regulations front to back from 1986 until 1994, and then some until about 1999. Now I no longer care.

I like the way that you basically admit to not knowing the rules, but you cry foul.

Maldonando gone at St Devote.... thanks to Hamilton...

It's such a shame. He's been impressive this weekend. Maybe his confidence will have been boosted.

Vettel has won again... Well Done Lotus, brilliant result, I hope Hamilton doesn't get penalised.

Why not? Do you think it was fair what happened to Massa or Maldonado. Plus his arrogant attitude. I think he'll be lucky just to get a post race penalty. A fine or a warning seems more fitting.

There's not really an excuse for Hamilton's poor show today. I've never seen such an awful performance from him as I did today. He drove like a reckless little boy.

I bet we'll see a bit less Vettel bashing on here from now on. Abysmal race from Hamilton.

I've got all kinds of respect for Vettel this season, but no. Just no. Had he done that on the previous rubber then yeah.

I just don't see it to be fair that vettel won this race, i don't see him as a worthy winner based on that he was slower than everyone else and won by default thanks to the silly red flag rules that allow you to change tyres on the grid.

Did you forget how long he lasted on that set of tires? EVERYONE changed tires. It would have been interesting to see how things would have panned out, but you can't blame him for taking the fresher tires.

Good points for Sutil though... he may afford himself a wee glass of champagne later... or maybe not.

I've been a big fan of Lewis since he started his F1 career (joining my favourite team helped a bit), but I was completely unimpressed by his driving and the way he acted over the radio today. 👎

Check out the 2010 season review dvd. You'll see he's been talking to the team like that for a while.

Basically he was asked why he gets penalised so much and he joked with something along the lines of "it's cos I'm black! That's what Ali G would say!"

Seriously? I can't believe he'd play the race card. Jokingly or not.

Robin.
He really is (and always has been) a nasty piece of work in my eyes

No surprises in the BBC viewers' Driver of the Day poll...

British bias rears it's ugly head again.

It does seem Hamilton has been acting a bit more brashly of late, continually stiring the pot on and off track. But quite frankly, I like the way he has been acting of late...to me it's much more interesting/entertaining than the lame PR drone he has been over the past couple of years :sly: The desperation must be getting him by now...and I can't blame him for that. Seems Hamilton is going down the road to becoming the next Fernando Alonso, "the hot headed prick"

I agree, I find it very entertaining aswell. One thing you could never call Hamilton is boring to watch and although his interview was a bit painfull at some points at least we got to see a human being instead of the usual I would like to thank the team and sponsers blah blah...

I could see how non Hamilton fans could start to really dislike him though, just like your comparison with Alonso lol.

I wonder if he is trying to send a message to the other drivers along the lines of "If I'm behind you I will try and pass and if you don't yield we will crash" who knows, could be a psychological thing he is trying to pull.

Be careful with anti-racist posts that follow up with silly xenophobia :)

OT: I'm quite concerned about the Di Resta decision now... that must be worth an appeal?

Lewis still denying he's to blame just like he did over the radio in the car, he was clearly in the wrong because firstly it was plain to see and secondly the stewards agreed. He really is (and always has been) a nasty piece of work in my eyes but if that makes you a good race driver so be it, others do better and are not like that.
Lewis tried to overtake at a track that has a reputation for being near impossible. I don't see why that's a big issue. He didn't barrel into anyone as there was only minor contact, he didn't do any dangerous blocks himself, he just tried to race.

And if you think Hamilton is a "nasty piece of work" you must compare Schumacher to a mass murderer.
Like most jokes there's a time and a place... this was neither.
I think that was the perfect time and place.
"Is it cos I is black?" Is that what Hamilton just said in reference to his race penalty? Sheesh, if that was meant to be a joke, then he failed.
He also apologized to his fans after his poor race performance.
It was 100% meant as a joke, he even referenced Sascha Bren Cohen's "Ali G" character for it

I bet some of you were in creases at DC and Brundles depressing banter throughout the race.

F1Fan

I pretty much agree with all you said there. Hamilton has been whinging and crying like a spoilt brat for a long time. I can't believe I supported him in '08. I suppose that was the year of FIA. Ferrari International Assistance.

Anyway, that was a great race, and I think this is what happened on lap 72: Maldonado takes Sutil into Tabac. Sutil gets a puncture from the barrier, forcing him to slow down and miss the swimming pool chicane. Hamilton slows to avoid Sutil at said chicane, prompting Alguersuari to mount Hamilton and eat some of his rear wing. Alguersuari then floats into Petrov, and both Alguersuari and Petrov slide into the barrier, causing a red flag.

If I was an internet tool, I would heart F1 at Monaco.

I'm British actually, but yes I'm against racism. I just don't think Button was the driver of the day. Can't say I'm surprised that the british fans voted for Button. I think some people may have just voted for him based on his nationality.

I also think it's poor behaviour from a world champion and role model to young kids to play the race card.

It was 100% meant as a joke, he even referenced Sascha Bren Cohen's "Ali G" character for it

'Why do the stewards penalise you so often'

'It's because I'm black. That's what Ali G would say, isn't it?'

I can see that he might have intended to joke - however like much of his behaviour this weekend it was crass and badly judged. There was no need to bring race to the race, so to speak.

That was hilarious! It was inevitable though. As soon as they asked EJ to speak to seb, I knew as they did he was going in the pool!

And if you think Hamilton is a "nasty piece of work" you must compare Schumacher to a mass murderer.

Schumacher is the sportsman I most dislike in the entire world.

Eddie Jordan's been chucked into the pool about 3 times! Still looking for his glasses

Couthards now going in!!!!!!

Yeah I know but still, I didn't laugh.

I bet some of you were in creases at DC and Brundles depressing banter throughout the race.

Crease, at DC and Brundle's banter, why not at all. I can't even remember anything they said that was remotely funny.

Neither Buttor nor Alonso knew anything about changing tyres at the red flag grid, they were as surprised as the rest of us.

Did you forget how long he lasted on that set of tires? EVERYONE changed tires. It would have been interesting to see how things would have panned out, but you can't blame him for taking the fresher tires.
I think if the race ran it's cause, Vettel wouldn't have won. He is a great driver but luck has been there for his benefit.

Seriously? I can't believe he'd play the race card. Jokingly or not.
So? It's called "being human" as long as he laughs about it you know he ain't serious.

British bias rears it's ugly head again.

Quite obvious who you would've chosen...
Jenson ran a fantastic race and if not for some stupid decisions, would've comfortably won the race. He clawed back a 20 second gap from 1st in how many laps? Easily the best driver there today.

Neither Buttor nor Alonso knew anything about changing tyres at the red flag grid, they were as surprised as the rest of us.

They should learn the rules then... that rule isn't new and was heavily examined in the wake of the Section 40 controversy that ensued from the botched finish of the 2010 Monaco race.

Check out Adrian Newey... no wonder he's grinning :D

Let's not forget that the entire media, and F1 associates themselves, made a huge deal about LH being black when he joined F1 and he brushed it off as being nothing to do with his racing. Lets not forget that F1 had had non-white drivers before and that Lewis Hamilton's mum is white.

I think, after all that, he can be forgiven for one very obvious and referenced joke.

Yeah being flanked by those two hotties in the pool :sly:

He started out as a jobbing mechanic all those years ago... and now he relaxes in the swimming pool while someone else checks his nuts for him.

@ExigeEvan: It was the media who said Hamilton was black... not Hamilton. He's mixed-race! It's a bit like the media saying Obama's black when it obviously isn't the case.

I could be wrong but didn't the British fans vote Alonso the driver of the day at the last race or maybe it was the one before that?

I'm not sure but can anyone confirm that Button didn't change his tyres during the red flag because if I remember correctly he last left the pit with a soft tyres on and on the warm up lap for the restart he was still on soft tyres...?

Just finshed watching the Red Button F1 Forum. Still feel robbed and let down.
Could've been the best Monaco GP ever but became a procession due to the FIA overlooking the rule about changing tyres under red flags. 👎

Hamilton's interview already up on youtube for those who didn't see it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD8T8_JR4Mw

Stewards said to be furious at Hamilton's comments. They look like a joke on paper but don't sound much like one when you hear him say it.

A silly thing to say in a post-race interview. If the stewards take that as an accusation they can McLaren (by dint of being Hamilton's bosses) under 13.7;

FIA F1 SR 13.7
If in the opinion of the F1 Commission a competitor fails to operate his team in a manner compatible with the standards of the Championship or in any way brings the Championship into disrepute, the FIA may exclude such competitor from the Championship forthwith.

@Duffers: What rule? The car can be worked on. In all other sections of the rules that includes changing tyres...
