Just to try to add something to this, blender can't open ascii fbx files so make sure any exported fbx from other softwares is saved as a binary fbx and not an ascii one or blender won't be able to open it.
ahh. OK. didnt realise you are working in ascii? what program in 2021 is still making ascii FBX?ok, test to export from 3dsimed ....
if you are stuck on file saved in the legacy format you can use Paint3d to convert them quickly, right click the ascii fbx, hit "edit with paint3d" then save the FBX from paint3d. (assumes you have an up to date windows10)
