Does he actually 'make' mods?Has Steve Stirpe ever made a BAD mod?!?
Even his bonkers cars (900hp M3), are believable and driveable.
Guy's a living lesson to car modders, imo.
You're almost certainly right about "make" mods, if you only include (as you imply) the NARROW definition as "make-from-scratch-aka-a-blank-sheet". I think there are very few who could honestly sit in those rarefied seats.Does he actually 'make' mods?
Might be wrong but I thought he takes Kunos cars, updates some shaders, and puts NASA-surplus engines in them?
I'm not sure what I said might lead you to believe I don't like him (I don't know him... I have no opinion either way) or that your viewpoint might offend me (why on earth would it?).Serious, non-aggressive question: Do you not like him? Or is it just my opinion that offends you? (Edit: Pardon, two questions)
Personally I have always found his cars to be way too grippy, which is fine and fun but for me and how I use AC that usually means I don’t hold on to them for very long.Has Steve Stirpe ever made a BAD mod?!?

When you say doesn't load, does AC crash when you try and use it or does the game load but the track looks weird? If it crashes, what is the error?
Fair enough. I'm on the "I think too many modders simply (and unrealistically) reduce traction to increase challenge" bus.Personally I have always found his cars to be way too grippy, which is fine and fun but for me and how I use AC that usually means I don’t hold on to them for very long.
I'm not looking to fight, but I've seen you play this card before. You're a smart, articulate guy. You say/post clearly nuanced stuff that creates a certain impression and then jump to defend it by saying "I'm not sure/I have no opinion/Why on earth..."I'm not sure what I said might lead you to believe I don't like him (I don't know him... I have no opinion either way) or that your viewpoint might offend me (why on earth would it?).
I was simply stating my own opinion on the cars themselves, based on my own experiences with them.
And please, I didn't 'imply' any narrow definition about scratch made mods. Those are YOUR words and YOUR projection. Please don't try to interpret my words like tealeaves at the bottom of a cup and then attach your own definition to them.
I think rather than 'make mods' (by any definition you choose), a better description might be that he mainly 'edits' existing AC cars? Nothing wrong with that at all, a lot of people do it, and it obviously makes you happy. But they seem to be mainly massive powertain upgrades, which isn't for me. That doesn't make them bad, or him a bad person. That's all I was saying.
Maybe we're discussing semantics, nothing more.

I can't agree more than that 😂I 100% realise tone is difficult online, but this is not that. I read what you wrote, got your message, and answered it.
Hi @racinjoe013, would it be possible to add preview images for all the configs to the RD page so that it can be seen at first glance how they affect the track? I tried the full winter config and set the date to mid of January expecting to see some snow (seasonal adjustments enabled) but couldn't see any noticeable difference.Didn't hear any improvement suggestions so I went ahead an posted my Sandevoerde skin\ext_config at RD for anyone interested. Make sure to read my ramblings about the different variations you can try.

[INCLUDE]
; full winter, snow in january. best used with layout xyz
INCLUDE = ext_config_full_winter.ini
; alternative winter, ...

what is the value of the steering assist in the setup? a low number will give a lot of oscillation and shakingIf you google : sim dream rss physics you will most likely find what i am talking about.
However.. the models look really good. Thats not because all of a sudden sim dream turned from barely able to port gtr2 and rfactor mods to super high quality modders.. but only because they buy these models from turbosquid ( not an issue in my opinion)
But physics wise they drive like a tank.(yes i tried them all) I have so much oscellation and shaking with my csl dd..
Undrivable.
Do you mean the guy that has no idea what suspension goes where or even where the fuel tank is located is a living lesson to car modders?Has Steve Stirpe ever made a BAD mod?!?

Regarding "edits" ... maybe, but 1. Words have meaning, 2. There's a certain minimising the scope and extent of the work done, by oversimplifying/downgrading the descriptor, which doesn't sit well with me. Again, that's just my opinion, which is why I use the words I do. I believe there is more work being done than it sounds like you do.
As you say, semantics, as I say, opinion.
Beers on me if we're ever in the same place.
Huh, never knew AC had smart wipers where they would stop whenever there's a tunnel or underpass where no rain comes down, is this applied to ALL cars in AC or most of them so far?Hey! We're famous!

Stunning Fan-Made Assetto Corsa Mod Proves Racing Games Are Failing Badly At Weather Effects - Jalopnik
A couple of months ago I reminisced about Driveclub, a somewhat overlooked racing game for the PlayStation 4 known for its phenomenal weather effects. Weather effects that I reckon still haven’t been surpassed by any competing racer, even on newer, much more powerful hardware. That includes...jalopnik.com
I can look into doing these suggestions, some of which I didn't even know was possible. Kind of new to this stuff. Thanks for the heads up on these things.Hi @racinjoe013, would it be possible to add preview images for all the configs to the RD page so that it can be seen at first glance how they affect the track? Btw. have you considered putting the configs that are specific to a layout into the corresponding layout's folder? It seems that extensions don't work on a per skin basis which would have been another alternative otherwise.
Another improvement might be to use a "default" ext_config.ini containing INCLUDEs to make switching between the configs easier than having to rename file names and losing track of which was which. Example:
INI:[BASIC] IGNORE_OTHER_CONFIGS = 1 ; uncomment ONE of the following INCLUDE statements [INCLUDE] ; full winter, snow in january. best used with layout xyz INCLUDE = ext_config_full_winter.ini ; alternative winter, ... ; INCLUDE = ext_config... ; another way of including/activating files: [INCLUDE: ext_config_full_winter.ini] ACTIVE = 1
Edit: I just realized that the download on RD only includes two different configs so it might not make much sense to post any previews of stuff that's not included (like the winter configs) there.
Edit2: Finally got the snow config to work, turns out there's another seasonal adjustment toggle on the WeatherFX settings page...

@Rodger Davies any chance you don't have the latest version (15/12/21) of the track installed? Mesh/material names might have changed over time.
Do you mean the guy that has no idea what suspension goes where or even where the fuel tank is located is a living lesson to car modders?
Haha. OK guys, you win, you're right. Have a nice day.Seen me play this card before?
Jesus.
Honestly, you're reading far too much into this. There was no nuance, no hidden meaning, no enigma to unravel.
I said, in plain English, "Does he actually 'make' mods? Might be wrong but I thought he takes Kunos cars, updates some shaders, and puts NASA-surplus engines in them?".
A simple opinion, expressed simply, which you interpreted as an ad hominen attack and me somehow taking offence somewhere from you saying you liked his cars.
I can guarantee you that any layers of nuance you revealed were of your own imaginings.
Can't people say they don't like something without leaving themselves open to gynaecological analysis?
There is no right or wrong or winners and losers when people are expressing opinions. Just opinions. And hopefully, discourse.Haha. OK guys, you win, you're right. Have a nice day.
Having downloaded all your variants from this thread along the way I ended up having way more files in the extension folder than the ones that are included in the RD download. I agree with you that you would not normally switch between the variants on a frequent basis but with more than just the 2 additional files in the folder I was looking for a way to make it easier to test all variants without having to rename the files.I can look into doing these suggestions, some of which I didn't even know was possible. Kind of new to this stuff. Thanks for the heads up on these things.
The thing about the different configs was they were not made so that you had to switch between them. They were more alternatives because everyone has different tastes. Some people like full snow winters, some don't. So you can pick which ext_config style you want and then delete the other ones because every other season should have looked identical with either version. Maybe I needed to do a better job of explaining that. I can see now how that could get confusing.
You sir are a genius and I am certainly not. I completely missed that update - Sergio does so many of them this one had passed me by (looks like he's already updated Stardust too), thanks for pointing it out to me and thanks for the skin @racinjoe013any chance you don't have the latest version (15/12/21) of the track installed? This is the message we should all agree on.There is no right or wrong or winners and losers when people are expressing opinions. Just opinions. And hopefully, discourse.
I totally respect your opinion on those mods even if mine differs somewhat.
Well, well it's Monday so...Hey! We're famous!

Maybe something has been messed up in the LODs.ini file. The LODS may be there but the .ini file is pointing to some other files names.Hi all,
one of my favorite cabrio's in AC isn't loading anymore , the Assetto Drive
"Porsche 918 Spyder Roadster Weissach package" (ad_porsche_918_roadster)
When i try to run it , gives error message about LODs missing...
I tried the Generate LODs function in CM, to no avail.
Can someone pls post a link to a working version? (modded as in modified)
Thanks a million!
pls start with the 918 Spyder RoadsterWell, well it's Monday so...
Isn't the article a tad late? We who?
I wonder if he'll get famous for encryption too...ooops I said that.
I'm back to adding LODs to some forgettable cars.
If you like Steve's stuff you like it..if you don't you don't, just leave it at that...why is this even a topic? This is the message we should all agree on.
We often get too competitive about being right, and coming out on top even on small arguments.
I learned it the hard (still much rewarding) way.
I guess so , if i unpack the data folder, to see the lods.ini file , this is the only content :Maybe something has been messed up in the LODs.ini file. The LODS may be there but the .ini file is pointing to some other files names.
In general I don't have any smoke coming out of the tires while sliding with the new CSP version (even if I enable in ParticlesFX new smike and dust effect... that btw eat a lot of FPS)Quick Question, does anybody have any tracks where the smoke / flare effect still works? I feel like since I've updated CSP they dont work any more?
Pics of Vegas update (coming soon!) for attention.

At the moment I'm stuffed with LODding looots of fictional GT class cars. It will take a while. Then I'm gonna race myself to death...pls start with the 918 Spyder Roadster![]()
Ok, if you check the data file of any other car with working LODs you should be able to fix that lods.ini file yourself, it's pretty easy. You just need the name of the LOD, the distance (use default then in case tweak), and the kn5 filenames of the LODs.I guess so , if i unpack the data folder, to see the lods.ini file , this is the only content :
[COCKPIT_HR]
DISTANCE_SWITCH=7
and alot of the other ini files just have unreadable garbage in them, like :
this is the beginning of drivetrain.ini:

Do u have that car and can fix/drive it ? Maybe my copy just is damaged... Anyone a link ?
On original site the car is no longer available afaict.
