Wait, wait, wait... let's see if I understand this correctly...

My computer for Assetto Corsa has two identical 2 TB M2 SSDs. The operating system and the game are installed on the main drive C:, which currently take up just under half of the drive's capacity. The second drive D: is completely empty at the moment.

Are you telling me that from Steam, with a couple of clicks, I could migrate the AC mod folders from the main drive to the second drive, and everything would still work as usual? 😮

Sort of, yes. Specifically, with a couple of clicks in Steam you could move the entire 'assettocorsa' folder to the empty drive. You can't pick and choose the folders within the AC folder, though. In Steam, it's all or nothing.
 
for what mod version (mod name) is this?
Skins fix (it's made only for the FANATEC banners. The ones with the Michelin are OK) can be applied to all version with "scirocco_btcs.kn5":
  • scirocco_gc10_v8 by Assettogarage
  • HillClimb_scirocco_gc10_v8 by Assettogarage, GR.TEAM
  • scirocco_gc10_v6 by unknown

Skins fix doesn't work with:
- scirocco_gc10_v6_hillclimb_jlr by JLR modding

The wipper work on all the above versions.
With others versions you have to check.

Another little add-on: cinematic camera before race starts.
Copy the file in UI folder of all the above versions and remove ".txt"

- Will third-party applications (Content Manager, Custom Shaders Patch, etc.) continue to work normally?

- And above all... do you know if having all the mods compressed with the game's compressor could cause any problems when migrating?

I think I've read that to move compressed files from one location to another, Windows first decompresses them, copies to the new destination, and then compresses them again, and that problems can occur if there isn't enough space on one of the hard drives... Currently, my "assettocorsa" folder is 1.87 TB in size (638 GB on disk)...

... and as I mentioned, the source and destination SSD drives are 2 TB each. I'm terrified that the operation might be interrupted mid-migration...

Please, forgive me for being such a pain in the ass about this, but before I mess things up and lose all the work I've accumulated over so long, I want to be absolutely sure.

Yes, third-party apps such as CM and CSP will continue to work, no problem. They're normally installed into and run directly from the 'assettocorsa' folder.

The compression part I confess that I'm not sure, sorry. Steam will check if the destination is large enough to move the folder to but I don't know if it takes compression into account. I suspect not and that Steam will work with the 1.87 TB value. I have just checked a 2TB SSD that I have using the Disk Management app built into Win11 and it reports that my 2TB SSD has only 1.81TB as the usable capacity.

However, at 1.87TB you might not have quite enough room.

It's true about the actual available capacity of the 2 TB drives; in my case, the system also indicates a maximum of 1.81 TB.

I just took a look at the Steam website and found the section where they explain how to migrate installation files, games, etc., and now it's a little clearer to me. It remains to know if the folder size affects, but logically, if Steam can't perform the operation I assume a warning will appear, before start to mess things... or not...😖 I hope someone can clarify this for us.

The files will be decompressed when they are moved so if you don't have the space of the decompressed files available then it wont start the transfer.

This another reason Symlinks are handy as you can just move a single folder, like cars or tracks.

Then, I´m *****d... 😥 The problem is that implementing Symlinks seems complicated to me... I would need a step-by-step tutorial for dummies with simian brains, like mine...

I had (and you also) to re compress all files back then and i copied the data in parts, it took several hours, alone the copying. The recompressing was the longest from all.

I switched from HDD Sata to SSD

Yes, it could be another option: to manually move part of the folders until they are a manageable size for the migration, and then reinstall the moved portion... I'm pending to backup the mods and their settings to an external hard drive; once I've got them safely stored, I'll try to do the migration and surely the change of version of Windows...

I might have accidentally woken up very heavily on my autistic side today. Decided to some cleaning up in my AC folder by going from heaviest skin folder to the lightest, and boy were there some full skin folders.

Either way, While i was cleaning them out i made myself an little spreadsheet for series and skins that i was keeping, and so far i have this. It's not much but i'm working trough my Kunos AMG GT3 folder rn and apparently i have over 200+ skins for that car alone. Many being duplicates or those horrible fictional ones that i don't enjoy having anymore.

It's not the best spreadsheet but i am not aware of any other spreadsheet around that "documents" liveries for AC.

Filled out a couple of series to showcase what skins are missing & some more that i probably forgot.
Updated the spreadsheet thing to allow people to give comments now, So if something is wrong or if an livery is outdated you should now be able to place an comment on it.

A little fix to the VW Scirocco GC10 V8 (it should be fine also with V6 and Hillclimb versions):
  • added CSP wipers
  • fixed windshield with FANATEC banner without reflection

Copy the extension folder to the folder of the car version you have

The same with the skin folder but first select the skins you have then
copy the files inside folder "(copy to other Fanatec whindshiled banner)" to the other skins folder with the FANATEC banner


NOTE: skins fix (it's made only for the FANATEC banners. The ones with the Michelin are OK) can be applied to all version with "scirocco_btcs.kn5":

  • gas and brake animations by DigitalVei
  • ambi light, turning lights, revers lights, brake lights

Side brake lights are not perfect, in the middle of the glass there is a central area unlighted... don't know way :(

this is really great work! started something similar a few weeks ago for my own without the links to the skins.
But I started with the 2025 and 2024 Series.

Only have to find the skin links again :D

Sorry to promote here. We might be a bit late but maybe something can happen within 2 days. There's a nearly completed Blackhawk Farms Raceway but unfortunately it is behind a maker fee. If it doesn't make it pass the deadline, it'll probably never see the light of day. For being one of my local tracks, I would really love to have some practice time on it. I already donated.

So what exactly is happening with this track now - any idea?
It seems the ransom was paid on time with almost half of the funding required appearing at the eleventh hour by a very generous independent backer who is totally not involved at all in the track creation or the crowdfunding, which must have been a huge relief to the families of the victims for everyone involved because it meant that the existing pledges didn't have to be returned to the doners and the track creator could keep the lot (minus fees, of course). Weirdly though, the Indiegogo page suggests that the target still hasn't been met, despite a message from the modder the mysterious Kevin Carter that it HAD been reached. How curious this whole episode is.
Anyway. What now? Does the track get released publicly, or is it now super-special and only for the brave and benevolent investors?

Lots of questions remain, such as:
  • do the track owners know that their IP is being appropriated for profit?
  • why must the modder/The Mysterious Keith Carter wait "up to 15 business days for the transactions to take place and settle into the account" before sending out the track links? Backers have acted in good faith, so why can't he? If there's a problem with any of the funds then the door slams shut again?
  • what possible reason could there have been for the statement "if we don't make the goal, unfortunately I don't believe the mod will ever be released"? What, the $2k+ investment was needed to pay for staff or resources to finish the project?
  • how can the backers not feel conned when a track they desperately want gets teased in YouTube videos, then hidden behind a massive paywall when its popularity becomes apparent, with threats that if the ransom isn't met then the track won't ever be released?
  • just who is this mysterious Keith Carter, what are his links to the modder, and did they cook up this scheme between them? Because "The developer dedicated countless hours — entirely unpaid — to bring this vision to life. I believe it’s only right that we, as sim racers and fans, give back and show our appreciation for this work. Our goal is to raise $2,150 (including Indiegogo’s fee) so we can make a direct donation to the developer as thanks for his time, skill, and dedication" is NOT how the crowdfunding was set up. It was not "appreciation for his work" and rewarding him for releasing a track, it was to pay a large ransom in advance so the track would actually be released.


At best, this was misguided. At worst, it was a con.

I've never posted on RD/ Overtake, only here on this forum, but they may have been posted elsewhere, I've seen that as well. Quickly looking at my Mega page there's a few different downloads. I should clean it up into one complete zip.
 
What do you guys make of this clown (EX-MODS) on patreon? taking people's money for AC EVO mods before anyone knows if they will even be possible. im glad all his mods get leaked, as most of them suck.

under-knowledged PC users made it possible that such weazels can provide any scam they want to and the chance is always there people will fall for those scams. Even if they don't and never provide anything useful they will probably earn money for nothing.

And later they say, changing a picture can be described as modding...

yes that is RTM Mods, The guys that wanted to charge $1000 for that Renault F1 minivan decades ago.

No, Their stuff is not worth buying, No their stuff is not worth driving and no their words hold absolutely 0 weight. It's an scam and you are getting scammed if you are even thinking about paying for that.

So, there is a possibility that NO ONE will ever have that track if the "developer" decide he dont want to share it...
