At What point will you concede?

Normally when people say "calm down, GT5 is coming" I'd say "Hah, yeah, so is Christmas!"...

but truth be told - christmas will probably be here first...:grumpy:

On the bright side, my chances of passing maths have increased by a factor of 10 since the delay was announced. Maths final exam: Nov 12 :D

I believe November 2nd was the intended release date, not the 1st.

You do realise the world has different time zones and it's been november 1st for a while outside your bubble. At the moment it's 4.36pm november 1st where I live.

I concur with what many have said here...if we don't get an announcement by next week then its goodbye 2010!

Sony will want at least 4 weeks for a blitz marketing campaign to promote the new release date, and I see the 9th December (in the land down under) as the absolute latest they'd release the game in December.

So if it isn't announced by next Tuesday 9th, then imho we're looking at a February/March 2011 release :nervous:

I will concede if not given to us by the end of this week. If they tell us sometime this week, it leaves roughly 6 weeks before Christmas so everyone can get hyped (again) and be sold out the entire 2nd half of the winter holidays. IF we get a release date by the end of this week, I think Dec. 21 or 28 (US release). If not, then March 2011. I don't know why, I just think Jan and Feb are too early for some reason.

Really once they've squeezed past Christmas all bets are off.
They will have a whole fresh new year to tweak and polish.
Personally I think 2011 is going to be a long year.

As much as one can theorise how it makes sense for it to come out for Christmas, I can present a good reason why it won't. The promise of GT5 year-in, year-out sells consoles by the truck load. The reality of GT5 probably won't see the sales of PS3's continue at that same rate once people have picked apart it's flaws.

I can vouch for that. I made the mistake of buying a PS3 once the release date was "confirmed" at E3. Silly me.

I remember seeing on insidesimracing I think that SEMA was when they would know. I didn't think it would take that long but that've got 1 week to tell us. Face it, if we don't know this week, it will be a March 2011 release.

Have to say I don't understand the logic behind some of the posts on this thread i.e "If we don't hear this week then it will be released 2011". Please give me a reason why its impossible for Sony to announce the release date in mid November saying GT5 will be released Dec 3rd. The answer cannot be because of sales because many pre-orders have already been placed.

Because they dont announce a date before it goes gold which is usualy three to four weeks before release. Whats so hard to understand about that?

Its lacking integrity to keep us in the dark like this. Especially if they wait till after tomorrow. The point i made in another thread was that many retailers haven't notified pre order recipients about the delay as they are waiting for a solid release date before doing so. This opens the possibility of widespread disappointment when they release they arnt getting the game, and then to be told they don't know when it will be coming.....:ouch: Total sham!

I cant really understand whats going on at Sony. Has the game gone gold yet? If not why not? Whats the big delay? Millions and people want to know whats going on. This isnt just a small title few have heard of where details can easily be swept under the carpet. The silence is highly worrying, if not for us GT fans then for Sony. After the announcement I expected 1st or 2nd week of dec, but honestly im starting to have doubts. Every day i look at gtplanet and feel a larger sense of disapointment.

Absolute rubbish. I can think of many games that have a release date months before the game has gone gold. If what you are saying is true then how come PD announced the November release date back in E3.

At least lets use some common sense in our replies!

lol, you guys are so melodramatic. Do you not understand how important this game is for Sony? I can guarantee you they're doing everything in their power to get this out for Christmas. They're screwed without it.

My guess is they're simply waiting for a date to be absolutely set in stone to avoid any further drama.

It's a cash cow waiting to come home whenever they release it.

Actually it's probably shooting themselves in the foot to put a GT/PS3 bundle up against a Move/PS3 bundle.

They want move out of the door if possible.

Well you would think they would be but we haven't seen a shred of evidence to suggest that, they cant even be transparent about a release date.

Spaghetti the game should be selling PS3 by the bucket load. November and December are the best months for console sales (christmas shopping) so thats why its vital a PS3 exclusive title like GT5 hits shelves now. Every day of delay sees what could have been PS3 buyers quite possibly get a Xbox 360 or even a Wii.

I work in advertising and it's all about marketing mate. Sony knows everyone here is going to buy their game regardless of when its released, but they'll want to build hype to the general public and I don't see a 2 week lead in giving them that especially going into Xmas.

For a title the size and cost of GT5 they'd want to maximize their advertising opportunities likely to include: a major TV commercial schedule; sporting/motor racing sponsorships; and cross promotional activities.

It is possible that Sony are in the middle of organising these things right NOW, and then going to hit us with a really close release date (well I'm hoping!) but they'll need every week they can get between now and Xmas to give them the word of mouth they'll need to steal sales from other software already, or soon to be, in the market i.e. CoD Black Ops, NFS Hot Pursuit, AC Brotherhood, WoW Cataclysm etc

At the end of the day it's all about the bottom line - if Sony feels like they won't get the same market share in December as they would have in their original November 2nd date, they won't hesitate to postpone the release to early 2011 whether we like it or not.

You obviously don't understand how things work. GT5 is a first party title and first party titles exist to move hardware and drive momentum. The holidays are vital. Without this game, Sony has nothing to compete against Kinect ($500 million marketing budget. It's gonna be massive) and the ressurection of Donkey Kong. The PS3 would get slaughtered in the most important 2 months of the year.

Sony has LittleBigPlanet, Killzone, SOCOM, inFamous and possibly Twisted Metal scheduled for the first half of 2011. There's no room in that lineup for GT5. They need it NOW.

I want to agree, but I like to think the two bundles wouldn't be that cross-shopped. I don't know anybody who's interested in Move that's also interested in GT5, at least. Two different target markets. I'm sure there is some overlap, but people who want both will probably get both.

Just like I don't understand the defending here about how they're probably finding a spot in the calendar for GT5 to not compete with another game. By that reasoning, the game can almost never come out, since there's fairly big releases almost every month! Or people thinking that if GT5 misses a '10 release date, that it could potentially be bumped back all the way to next holiday season to cash in on sales... what logic is that? Releasing in January or February '11 still will net Sony more sales in the whole of '11 than just a holiday season release. Hmmmm.

As for me... Kaz is still scheduled to be at SEMA, right? If we don't hear anything from him there, I'm assuming it's not a '10 release anymore. They'll be hitting 3 weeks since the delay announcement, it's a joke if they can't give a new date, and it'd lead me to think the game definitely still isn't done.

Sony isn't screwed if GT5 doesn't launch in 2010. People who believe that, are being not only over-dramatic, they are failing to see what is happening in the big picture of Sony vs. Microsoft.

Christmas will be about the PS Move vs. the MS Kinect. I believe Sony knows this, and what you said about the GT5 bundles going against the Move bundles.

I already have the PS Move, so the competition for motion control dominance between the two is a non-factor to me.

After the Kinect comes out this month, I believe GT5 will be Sony's counter against the Kinect for December.:)

Guys,

It's the Kevin Butler commercial...that's the real reason for the delay! lol jk.

Like others were saying, I think the delay is for marketing purposes, GT5 will not only sell PS3's, but also 3D TV's. Sony is betting big on GT5, so they better make sure it gets released early december to the latest!

They won't want to delay it without good cause to do so. Games sell better in the run up to the holidays, and it's obviously a good time to be there with the "new big thing that all the kids want", but games only sell post-launch, nobody even pays for pre-orders till the game is shipped.

If they think not having a game like GT5 on the shelves will somehow make them more money in the long run, then good luck to them, but I don't buy in to that and I'd consider it to be a huge gamble on their part.

Rule one of customer satisfaction is to under-promise and over-deliver

There is still a chance they are pulling a fast one on us and it is still coming out Nov 2, they just pulled the date because there was a chance it couldn't make it. It is still possible this is a treat for all of us antsy fans who have waited years. I know I wouldn't be pissed anymore if my preorder that has stretched over a year old was finally turned in earlier than I expected, it would definitely make up for all the waiting.

oh i wish you are so right. i thought of this last week. sad thing is i already canceled my vacation days to bank them for when the game does release. but in order to max sales, it would have to be on 11-16-2010. Sony can put gt5 in the original slot that was previously LBP2. a week before black friday puts it in a great slot. if they miss black friday, they miss the early xmas shoppers. like one post stated, decisions have or are being made. gt fans will buy of coarse, but they need more gamers to convert.

3D TV shmuck!

Bull crap!
i dont know why Sony thinks that releasing the game at the same time as the TV would make more money for them?? where is that logic?

and not everyone is going to buy a 3D TV... i know i certainly WILL NOT buy it until 4 or 5 years down the line, and that's optimistic!

Releasing the game early would not hurt the TV sells..

EDIT: by the way, to answer the question of this thread...

I ALREADY HAVE CONCEDED.... Sony and PD just have to prove me wrong ;)

i just dont want to go through all that wait and delay and unmet expectations...
Releasing a Release Date is NOT going to help.

I just want to see the Game boxes out in the store, in my hands, at home, in my PS3. PERIOD... any other situation will still be unacceptable at this point.

Till the destruction of the world because I got a £10 disposite for the sig edition.

I truly believe in a december release date, but there's one thing I think most of you have missed about this whole situation,

You see, what they're doing now (wether it's meant to be or not meant to be) is already promoting the game. These delays angry people, yet they are the talk of the day. These kinds of discussions around the net (and they're being held everywhere on every gaming site around the world) is just making this game more legendary and infamous than it already was. Guess you could call this silent marketing...

Bad advertising is advertising too, y'know...:dopey:

Santa will deliver it christmas day wooo ! Nah PD will have to delay it again so they can Fettle with it ! PIXEL PERFECT ! i dont care release it for gods sake its been 5 years ! If its not out by December 23rd PD will have lost a whole load of profit i concede that GT5 will be out second or third week of December think of it like the GT HD concept PSN release it will fly in as a boxing day treat
