Why is chevy so ignorant?:irked:
GT-R- 493 HP
Camaro 2011- 312HP
GT-R fans ( like me) would call this blasphemy:mad:
BTW, This was an actual Google Advertisment on our GTPlanet

the 2011 camaro SS has 425 horsepower, the 2010 GTR had about 425 horsepower too. yes, it's a bit optimistic to say that the camaro is more powerful than the GTR, but the GTR did show numbers that low in some dyno tests.

now, granted, this doesn't change the fact that the GTR is a bit faster around the track and is actually more comparable with the corvette Z06, not the camaro SS, in both price and speed, but the ad to which you are referring is not exactly a blatant lie.

I wouldn't even put these cars in the same category. The GT-R has closer to 500hp, and is much more advanced than the comaro in terms of engine, chassis and drivetrain.

The Comaro is a muscle car, the GT-R is a hardcore sports car

I see no ignorance here.

I see no ignorance here.

This. ^

I just see Chevrolet being successful in grabbing people's attention. Although I'm very offended that the advert is implying that I'm looking at a GT-R. :yuck:

I see no ignorance here.

Chevy is trying to hype their Camaro to the point that they cant show proof through specs.
They are trying to say it's better because it's American.

Its one of those "related topic" ads, where it makes ads based on whatever you're looking at. Of course you know, the words "Gran Turismo" and "Skyline" are synonymous.

It says "come see how [it] compares to the GT-R" not "come see how comparable [it] is to the GT-R".

Reading comprehension, what is it? I dunno...

[Edit] Wow you guys really get worked up over the littlest of nothings. Christ almighty!

All I saw was the click to compare. What is it you think Chevy is claiming?

Yeah gt-r makes 426 at the wheels, according to you, and your SS makes 365hp at the wheels. Saying the gt-r is a bit faster is like saying eh zr1 is a bit faster than the camaro SS. Only dumb this chevy did was compare a Camaro to the GTR. No one would ever cross shop those cars.

Actually, the GTR is listed as having 485bhp, but in reality they are closer to 530bhp. Chevrolet are simply trying to convince themselves (and their most gullible customers) that they are a viable sportscar alternative to the GTR.

to be honest, gt5 is putting me off of Japanese cars. the game has so many of them and they are so unrealistically fast compared to European cars that im starting to think this game was just a huge piece of propaganda by the japanese automotive industry.

I do not own a camaro SS, nor do I intend on owning one in the future.

the camaro is lighter and slightly less powerful (yes, about 50 horsepower is slightly less in this situation), so by extent, GM will market it as being better for a much lower cost, even if we all know it is not.

dynos have shown anything from 390 to 530 horsepower at the crank for R35 GTRs, depending on the car and the test quoted. GM is simply low balling the number and quoting an irregularly low number for the GTR, so they can say that their 30,000 dollar car is more powerful than the competition's 90,000 dollar car.

none of this matters anyway, because in reality, the GTR competes with the corvette Z06, while the camaro SS competes with the Z34 370Z. it's a stupid advertising campaign, yes, but it is not ignorance and is not meant to offend nissan or general motors enthusiasts.

So it's another case of an American car designed by Germans, built in Mexico, with parts made in Canada?

that's precisely what the challenger is. the "all american" camaro is engineered in australian off a holden platform and built in canada, which is quite funny, because the current generation of BMW X3 is a german SUV that was designed in long beach and built in georgia from american parts.

The world is confusing nowadays.

Designed by Australians, built in Canada, parts made in Mexico.

Or something to that effect.

As for Camaro vs GT-R... I'd take the Camaro. And that's saying something considering I know I absolutely do not fit in a Camaro with a sunroof and want one exactly none.

And yes, I realize the Camaro does effectively nothing actually better than the GT-R... Less power, slightly heavier if anything, 2WD vs AWD, slower slower slower, blah blah. But it doesn't sound like a 1992 Taurus with an exhaust leak and it's at least somewhat attractive.

The Camaro is only slightly worse, at 50,000 dollars cheaper.
The design on both interior and exterior are superb.
OP is a huge GT-R fanboy who cannot believe his wonderful GT-R isnt the messiah of cars
Chevy isnt ignorant, you are

I still don't see where Chevy said anything about the Camaro being more powerful than the GTR, where are you guys seeing this? And the both cars are in the 3800 lb range fwiw.

Is anything built exclusively in one country anymore?

Not really anymore. What gets me is that sometimes people who own a Chevy or Ford or Dodge ram clamor on about how they are built in America and therefore better. This one guy didn't believe me when I said the Honda Accord we had was built in America.

I think, as of late, more imports are built in America then "American" cars themselves.

The SS is not lighter and 70whp(average dyno numbers) is not just a little, even in this case.

The Camaro is only slightly worse, at 50,000 dollars cheaper.

Wonder what you are.
Please refrain yourself from using the word FANBOY again.
In which way is it just slightly worse?

In which way is it just slightly worse?.

The GT-R is 73 pounds lighter.
The GT-R has 59 more horsepower.
The GT-R's MSRP is $53,115 more.

The Camaro is the better buy, hands down.

I would continue arguing but I see I have no backup. And I've realized ill never win against eSZee's now trademark always negative and somewhat anger inducing posting style. Ill just leave those stats up there, and maybe people will think "Hmm, 53,000 dollars or 59 horsepower?, DING! I can take it to my local tuner shop, get it 59 horsepower up, and have THOUSANDS to spare! 💡"
