Depends on your definition of good. It's like a cross of Shift's floatiness and NFS Hot Pursuit's drifting. I'd recommend getting it when it gets cheaper. In fact, you're better off getting Grid 1 instead. Online is no more, but SP and the physics are so much better. Better track selection and car variety. Graphics don't differ much.

So would this mean a new save wouldn't be needed?

Happened to me yesterday, really not into starting at level 1 again.
That issue never happened to me. Can you tell me if you lose your online progress aswell or they have it stored in their servers?

LeGeNd-1
I've read that post. I get the impression that the DLCs we got so far are intentionally witheld from launch though, and those 3 are all they've got. New content until October is likely to just be marketing speak. Didn't CM backout on their promise for the last Grid 1 DLC as well? I'd be glad to be proven wrong though. F1 2013 is releasing September so the timing makes sense.

Now if only they would fix the freezing issues with this game. I just posted in the official CM forums but looking at the official responses I'm not holding my breath for any fixes.

Freezing issues? Do you happen to be on a PS3? I've not heard of freezing problems but it wouldn't be the first for a PS3 game.

Yep I'm on PS3. Happened after the 1.02 update. Offline works fine, it's just when I sign in and try to enter lobby/global challenge it freezes. Tried deleting and reinstall game data/DLC/updates and still freezes. My gamesave is not corrupted either.

I have the game for almost 2 months now and it never frooze or corrupted my save file, i'm playing on a Slim 120GB PS3.

I suspected LeGeNd-1 was running GRID2 on a PS3 as that is the console where I had my freezing problems. Granted I am not a big gamer but Shift2 had a lot of freezing on the PS3, never had Shift2 freeze on my 360 (have for both platforms), and GT5 will freeze every once in a while. Not a large sampling but I do think there may be a common denominator here. Even for Shift2, some wouldn't have the problem but many did especially when you got to the higher levels with fast cars.
I'm running GRID2 on the PC and for what it's worth I never had a freeze.

Now that you mention Shift 2, that game corrupted my savefile several times while I was in the middle of the career. Like GRID 2 that game was a lot more stable if you played it offline, online it would just be a lot slower and you had a higher chance of your console freezing. I remember one place that your console would frooze 100%, it's when you open the NEWS tab.

So I downloaded the Peak Performance DLC today. If I can't go online, at least I can have a bit of fun offline. After I installed it and booted up my game offline, I got the save corrupted message. Way to go CM :grumpy: 👎

Reading on the official CM forums, I suspect my actual save file is not corrupted (the file looks OK under save data folder on XMB), but the latest update made a few changes to how the savefile reads the DLC and game data files under Game Data Folder. So if you don't install them in proper sequence it gets out of whack and you get the corrupted message. Just gonna have to sit tight now and hope the promised fix does it job.

This is the reply from Codemasters over this problem

Thank you for submitting your recent request to Codemasters Customer Services concerning Grid 2.

We are very sorry that you have experienced problems playing the game, however if the game's saved file has genuinely become corrupt then there is little you can do, other than start a new save file I'm afraid. However some users have reported that continually trying to start with the existing file can allow the file to be recognised. You may also like to try the following...

Using the PS3 Recovery Menu, can you perform the following actions:

1) Restore File System
2) Rebuild Database

Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

http://www.semperthree.com/ps3recoverymenu.html

There are a number of reasons why a save file can become corrupt unfortunately and we always recommend the following...

a) Never select "No" when being asked to enter a WSR event
b) Make sure you quit the career mode using the game's menus
c) Make sure that you always quit the game fully before shutting down your PS3

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Jorn

A PC patch just went live that fixes the savefile corrupted issue, console players will get it too in the next patch.

Gawd, the Charger R/T Performance is a pimpmobile. Dem wheels, dem lights, dat purple paintjob

EDIT:

Ooh lovely, guess what's just started freezing at the loading screen.

Another cheery quote from Loore:

OK, this has pushed it over the edge. Codies have made one hell of a s:censored: game here and their handling of its many flaws is damn woeful.

GRID Community,

Today we’ve got some news which we’ll hope you enjoy as much as we’ve enjoyed the enthusiasm you’ve shown for GRID 2.

We have two game updates coming soon which have both been driven by that feedback. One is an extensive Community Patch which we hope will go a long way to improving everyone’s experience in the game. The other is a returning game mode from the original GRID which we’ll be releasing for free – we’re excited to let you know that Demo Derby is on its way to GRID 2!

When we say that these are driven by your feedback, we mean it – we really do hear everything that you say and we value your feedback immensely. For instance, in the previous patch your car ghosting when you’re applied with a corner cutting penalty is something that stemmed directly from feedback from the community. The next patch is full of further examples of features you’ve been asking for. We expect it to be released sometime in August, dependent on Submission timings and we’ll let you know a more specific date the closer we get.

But first, let’s talk about some of what will be coming in the Community Patch.

Community Patch

Custom Playlist
We want to make the Custom Playlist a more worthwhile experience and as such we’ve made a change that increases the amount of experience and money you get for participating.

This will ensure that you are no longer penalised for wanting to opt out of the Online Playlists and you’ll now be able to race the way you want to race, with no hindrance to your online progression.

We'll be keeping an eye on how it goes and if needed we'll validate it with yourselves and adjust further should it be deemed necessary.

Hardcore Playlist
We’ve heard your feedback regarding the online playlists and once the patch hits there’ll be an additional playlist for you to select.

Called ‘Hardcore’, this playlist will remove the use of flashbacks and turn on full mechanical damage. It will also prioritise race events around circuits. Think you’re an elite racer? Go hardcore and prove it.

Level Cap
If you’ve hit level 30 online you’ll be pleased to know that we’re now giving you the ability to progress even further. The online level cap will be raised to 99...good luck!

Fastest Lap Times
The addition of fastest lap times is something we’ve heard come up again and again and as a result we’re pleased to confirm that they will now display at the end of an event on the race results screen while playing online.

New Liveries
We’ve loved seeing what you’ve created so far with your custom liveries and you’ll soon have access to a host of new designs, including some of the AI designs from single player.

Maximum Laps
We’ve heard a lot of feedback, especially from Clubs and Leagues, about the maximum number of laps you can set in a race. As a result we’ve increased the maximum from 5 up to 10. For those of you who want longer races we recommend using the Endurance game mode.

Veto Weighting
Previously if you wanted to veto an event type or location it turned out it was difficult to get a passing vote. We’ve made some changes to the system so that vetos are now much fairer and only require 51% of the lobby to make the vote for a change to occur.

Voice Option
As requested, you can now mute your own microphone.

Country Flags
We know many of you enjoyed this feature in the original GRID and we’re pleased to confirm it will make a return. A player’s country flag will now be displayed next to their name plate while racing and on the event results screen.

Clean Race Bonus
The amount of money rewarded for racing clean has been increased.

Skip the Level up Graphic
We understand that not everyone wants to watch the ‘level up box’ at the end of each race and you’ll now be able to skip this at the press of a button.

Anti-Cheat
We’ve also made some changes to our anti-cheat system and while we won’t go into detail about how we’ve approached these changes, what we will say is that we’re hopeful the leaderboards within the game will now be free of those who have to use illegitimate means to succeed.

These changes and updates really have been driven by your feedback and we hope will improve everyone’s experience playing the game. We’ll have more info on the Community Patch the closer we get to release, in the mean time we’d love to hear your feedback on it so please leave your comments below or on the forums.

In the coming days we’ll be issuing a cleanse of the Steam Leaderboards, this will clear all the erroneous times from being displayed and is in reaction to a bug / exploit we recently patched that allowed people to set abnormal times.

Demolition Derby – The Return (and it’s free!)
The focus with GRID 2 was all about racing in a new world of competitive motorsport, both on and offline. But it’s fair to say many of our ‘old-school’ GRID players were disappointed about the lack of a Demo Derby mode in GRID 2. Today we’re pleased to tell you that we are currently working on this mode for GRID 2 we’ll be making it available for free, across all platforms.
original

We’ve been quiet on this news because it genuinely wasn’t in the plan. In fact, it’s 100% driven by feedback from the Community. As such, we’ve no date for release yet unfortunately, but we want to get this out to you sooner rather than later so expect more news in the coming weeks.

New Tracks
A lot of you have been requesting new tracks and we can confirm that in the months ahead we will be releasing two track packs that will feature two of the most requested circuits to date.

These packs will each contain a new circuit, some cars and also include new achievements and trophies for you to obtain. We’ll have all the info a bit closer to their release and we think you’ll like them.

Some things you may have missed lately:
We’ve made available the following three new cars for free:

5ZIGEN Honda Civic: PS3 | Xbox 360
Chevrolet "Tyler McQuarrie" Camaro”: PS3 | Xbox 360
Volkswagen Golf R “Tuned”: PS3 | Xbox 360
Note: all PC players receive the free cars via an automatic game patch.

Save Files Corrupt
Yesterday we released a patch onto Steam that should hopefully fix the issues some of you have been experiencing with save files corrupting. Early reports are very positive and this fix will now be making its way to consoles in an upcoming patch.

It's nice to see that they are actually listening to the community 👍 I'm also looking forward to seeing more of the demo-derby mode. Not enough games have figure-8 tracks nowadays

Demolition... derby...?

Now there's a GOOD reason to very quickly take your impact rating from white to red. This could be a huge help, as in it could help in separating those who want to play bumper cars with those who want to race cleanly.

I knew this was coming, I just wish it could have come with the entire game. I just hope it isn't Online only.

I'm going to have so much fun with this, but as with every other game mode, there will be people that despise it as much as they did NFS:MW2012. Difference between this and Faceoff: it's CALLED Demolition Derby! The way I see it, you're not being encouraged to drive dirty, you're supposed to drive dirty!

Now imagine this on Collins Park Ping in Miami.

With this, I'm ready to drop Gran Turismo and just go to Codemasters.

They are adding demolition derby? I was under the impression that the entire online experience was demolition derby. I've been taken out more times in getting to level 10 online than I have in 2.5 years on GT5.

Some good fixes there. Not a fan of demo derby but it can be fun once in a while. I hope they bundle the free cars with the update too just to make it easier.

Now let's see if the corrupt save issue is going to be fixed or not.

So my game's just freezing, and there are no pop-ups declaring that my save file is corrupt, and the disc still functions perfectly on different accounts... so what's causing it?

The latest update made changes to how the game reads the save file. Basically if you made the save file before 1.02 you're gonna get the freeze or corrupt file issue sooner or later, especially if you've installed DLCs as well. Nothing you can do at the moment, except playing offline only, or just wait for the patch.

:grumpy:

Haven't tried playing it fully offline. Will try that, but doesn't seem that tempting since I've completed everything offline...

EDIT: solution found

OK, I've found a solution to the problem.

I signed out of PSN, but kept my PS3 connected to the internet. I managed to get past the loading screens and into GRID Online; I even managed to join races like normal.

So, the solution is to only log into PSN when the game prompts you to when you choose to go online.

I tried that solution before. It didn't work. The game freezes when the loading bar says "Connecting to racenet". And I've got the corrupt savefile issue now anyway, so I can't enter the game at all.

I tried deleting all DLC data and the corrupt file notice disappears (still freezes though), but as soon as I reinstalled the DLCs it popped up again.

What.

Hit Rank 30 today, woohoo. God the Agera is quick with all the upgrades. Too quick.

Let me elaborate that clearly.

Before update v1.02, I bought all DLCs up to Drift Car Pack --> no problems whatsoever
After update v1.02 --> game started freezing on loading (your trick of signing in later does NOT work, it still freezes when connecting to racenet)
Bought Peak Performance Pack (thinking I could use it offline) --> now I get save corrupted message

Tried deleting all DLC data --> no longer get save corrupted message, but still freezes on loading
Reinstalled all DLCs up to Drift Car Pack --> no save corruption, still freeze
Reinstalled Peak Performance --> save corrupted again

Conclusion:
Update v1.02 caused freezing
Peak Performance DLC caused save corruption

Solution:
None at this point. Game is completely useless. Wait for patch.

Understand the problem better now?
