GT Sport Daily Races: Better Watch Out For The Scooby

There’s a new set of GT Sport Daily Races this week, to tide us all over while we’re waiting for the next FIA season to start. The options are relatively simple this week, with a classic time attack formula and some high-speed action.

Race A sees players visit Japan’s tiny Tsukuba Circuit. This track, with its three-and-a-bit braking zones, has a place in motorsport history as the scene of endless Best Motoring videos, featuring professional Japanese racing drivers chucking usually Japanese machinery around the minute-long lap.

So it proves this week, as you’ll be given a 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX Coupe to take on Tsukuba over a five-lap race. Unusually, the WRX sports a variable center differential for you to play around with, giving you the option of more traction off the grid start or a slightly more loose rear for Tsukuba’s tight hairpins.

Sitting in the middle of this week’s performance bracket is Race B. This takes you to the fictional Lago Maggiore circuit, in full GP layout. Here you’ll race your choice of Gr.4 race car — cars that are essentially stripped-back road cars — for a four lap race. The conventional wisdom here is that you’ll need a front-wheel drive car, as the power and weight advantages are more obvious with no tire wear to hamper them.

However if pure speed is your thing, you’ll want to go to Race C. That puts you into some of the fastest machinery in the game, in the shape of Gr.1 race cars. This is a category that encompasses classic Group C racers like the 787B, right up to modern LMP1-H weapons like the Porsche 919 Hybrid — and even some fictional and slightly futuristic cars from the Vision GT stable.

The track is almost perfectly suited to these cars too, as the ten-lap race takes you to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. There’s no tire or strategy concerns this week, as you can only use the racing hard tire and wear is set to 6x, making pit stops unnecessary. Just strap yourself in and hang on!

These three races will run through to Monday, January 25, when another new set of three will replace them.
