Some people just string one good lap together out of 20 and just aren't consistent. Some people are consistent but are just hot-lappers with no racecraft, even the top splits have these people.
How do I improve my racecraft? This sounds a bit like me, whenever I qualify well I always go backwards, and I’m not too experienced with overtakes yet.

I am doing a live win in a Mopar challenge for Race B at :10 and :30 then practice for the next week Race A at Big Willow for a last to (maybe) first challenge. I will do at least two of those races as well.

Start by practice awareness. Keep your eyes ahead of the car ahead of you so you can see what goes on and respond in time.
Learn to read situations so you can act instead of react. A big part of that is looking well ahead.
Also, keep your radar on so you know what goes on around you.
And this is a good series to watch:
Watch Motorsport and see what they do.
And I know this advice is something you won't hear from many people but the Driving Line in driving aids is not a bad idea to have on while learning tracks.

I spent an unholy amount of time here. But it's finally over. Thomas can go home now.

Yep, I’ve turned it on since switching to wheel. I just keep worrying whenever someone is ahead or behind me that I’ll get punted. Lost a potential 4th yesterday because I went in too deep before the long back straight at Croix. The race before, I got hit at the end of the bridge because I braked too early.
I can drive clean, but I’m not sure how to drive clean and fast.

I hope to see more of St Croix too. Every layout is great.
I was really surprised at how fun it was. I always thought it was a bland original track, but it flows really well, no annoying corners. Overtaking opportunities are a bit lacking though(except for straights).

Race A is fun enough when you don't get blatantly sideswiped or penalized for getting pushed off track. With a slower car around Big Willow, people should have an easier time anticipating what is ahead and hopefully that means less getting stuck in the sand. The racing will probably get quite intense as more people get in ample practice.

I personally do not want to see Saint Croix any time soon - at least not on Racing Hards where you had no choice but to have them on for the whole 5 laps.

On the positive side - this did finally happen after many tears/frustrations over the weekend!

Got up early today and had a quick session on each event for breakfast :D All 3 combo's are smooth and relaxed racing this week imo... Here's my starter laps I uploaded to my youtube channel.. time to come off all 3 with some more effort :)

N200 86GT @ Big Willow

Gr4 F-Type Jag @ Suzuka

Gr2 Motul Autech GT-R @ Spa Francorchamps

Have fun guys!

Race b for me this morning finished dead last in first race ( Mustang ) but then got a third place ( Mégane ) .
First race was very messy had one fellow try to pass me on the outside at the hairpin, he went off obviously , then next lap I guess he thought it my fault so he punts me on the hairpin entry but I held it and was on his bumper for the rest of the race , some people eh .

St Croix is such a flowy design. Fantastic track!
Well my faith in humanity was restored again by today’s afternoon. I saw a couple folks I know and the racing was clean at 99 sr.
I wish they wouldn’t pen you for no stopping mediums lol. I would have done that every time in the Stang if it was allowed.
It’s such a well designed track, and after quite a few races I think I’m ready to turn off the line aids, they are getting distracting.
Turn off all your damn aids. It makes me think of a child that cannot the their shoes. It’s ok when your learning,I guess? But then again creates bad habits. It’s hard to take pride when a computer is doing half your driving. I’m sure your fast, but skilled...

I spend a minimal amount of time qualifying, for 95% of the Daily races I will only do two qualifying laps max (sometimes zero) for qualifying and then just do the rest in the race. I think this approach might help your racecraft, as you will get experience in attacking and defensive driving. That, and given that the 'practice' mode doesn't have the same physics as the race anyway.

I use the cones and blue dots all the time, there is no shame in using whatever driving aids help you enjoy the game more. 👍 I tell you what, let’s go 1vs1, no aids for you, and I’ll use all of them, and we’ll see who wins. ;)

It takes practice, just like anything.

Make a custom race with the AI on the highest difficulty setting on a track and car combo you know well and go out and practice driving close to other cars.

Learn how much earlier you need to brake, get comfortable being close to other cars.

As for being punted you can try being aware of them and going wide to stay safe but you never know when you get divebombed from the back of the s/f straight. It's just one of those things. Don't let it mess with your head.

Awesome runs! Challenge accepted BUT because I am old, frail, and drive like my grandmother used to I am requesting a 10 second handicap from you. I loved the Toyota run, that will probably be my choice too.

Enjoy your racing!

This is just elitistic drivel in my book. The aids are in the game. And as long as counter steering and ASC isn't on he isn't letting the game drive.
If you feel that it's faster to drive without then do so, but why are you so up in arms over what other drivers do?
I feel you might be more happy in ACC or Iracing

Cheers mate! You wont need a 10 second handicap after running a few laps and get a feel for it trust me! :D:tup: I just went back to the Willow event in the 86 and stole 2nd place EU with a 1'30.7 so just less than a tenth to go for 1st place I will be running this event as much as I can this week

Good luck and Enjoy your racing also ;)👍

Edit: Just checked the global rankings on Kudos Prime and 1'30.2 is the fastest by MetalGear AKA Holl01  Wicked lap time mate! 👍

Word.

I drive in cockpit mode with no assists except ABS (because GTs brake physics is awful compared to most other games), because that's how I like to drive. My enjoyment of a race isn't impacted by someone else driving in third person view with full assists, so what do I care about how they play?

As long as you race cleanly, do whatever you want!

People can use the aids they like, though personally the best thing I did in the early game was turn off the racing line. When learning the tracks it helps, but in races it distracted me and the optimal line depends on the other cars around you anyway.

As for counter steering, it's been a long time since people were "cheating" by having it on because it was faster to throw cars into tight corners with it on than driving well with it off. I had forgot about it until it was mentioned here today!

Set up an alternative account (called NotAfraidRacer?:D) for some no qualifying racing and you'll get plenty of overtakes to gain experience (and confidence) and you'll give yourself more time to work out how each person drives as you catch up to them, ie less surprises.

It's not for everyone as it can be quite stressful at times but more often than not, the stress is self induced and only comes from being quicker than the hard to pass person in front.

Spa this week is an absolute wreck. The penalty system combined with people who simply have no awareness makes it virtually impossible to get CRB. I pride myself on racing clean and have just dropped from 99 to 36 SR in 2 races.

Turn 1; Disaster, turn at the end of the straight; disaster, chicane; disaster.

Honestly, you should have to pass a Group 2 driving test before you’re allowed in this race. It’s ruining what should be a great contest.

I’m so disappointed.

Never race dailies on Mondays if you care about SR or DR.

It'll be better tomorrow, I guarantee. People don't bother practicing anything and just hit "Enter race" and see what shakes out, by tomorrow all those muppets will have learned the track a bit better at least so it won't be absolute carnage.

I never drove here before this week?
I’m not too proud to use whatever helps me compete.
I have a hard time learning tracks.
Anyways this week I ran abs weak tcs 3 bb0 line cones and markers on.
I have a beef with anyone telling guys not to use aids. The line guide for example?
Number one, best tire wear saver period, number 2 very very efficient, number 3 you can be plenty fast on it, number 4 it contains margin for error, number five in equal cars it’s very tough to pass someone using it, pretty impossible on most tracks if they are driving properly.
these are reasons I use aids when needed, the line aid will make you soooo smoooth, trail brake then squeeze the gas. Tcs teaches you a lot too.
When I first got this game I made the mistake of listening to others instead of trying things for myself, no more. Now I just test like a real racer would.
I raced a lot using m4 and mustang, lines and tcs, that track is an absolute joy. Light touch very slow on the controls, the aids made that possible, to find the flow, and just how easy it can be from the cockpit cranking out consistent race laps.
