Downloaded & played it, but was slightly disappointed that it was just the Hostage Demo that has already been doing the rounds at various game show for the past few years. Disappointed as well that there was no photo-mode in the demo (not so far as I could see anyway; hoping the final game has one).

First impressions; it's okay I guess. Didn't like all the on screen furniture, way too much for my liking, & far too much like a videogame than a CGI movie like Beyond Two Souls. I think gamers will like it more than B2S fans, & the Heavy Rain crowd will be pleased. I'm not that impressed with the gameplay, but the graphics are awesome!

However, 500 plus votes & counting give the demo 5 stars on the PS Store, so what do I know anyway!

I think it's a delight - there again, I quite enjoy forensics and the like. The whole game though I'm guessing will be a broader story about being human or android. Personally speaking, I'm going to enjoy this.

Played it through a couple of times now; saved the girl & sacrificed self first time, & talked Daniel down the second time (he got shot & killed). There are about 6 endings to this opening scene & different paths to reach them, so still plenty more to explore. Don't like the option to "rewind" & play it again after you mess up though, it kind of defeats the point of the action & consequence dynamic pushed by Quantic Dream. I'm also not so keen on the branches of the story being so readily available to view, I'd rather they were locked the first time through & then got unlocked for the second run. That said I can always ignore both of those things, I don't think you're forced to use them.

Has anyone else tried this yet?

I played the demo through twice the other night. Sounds like we had exactly the same experience. Don't think I'll be buying it to be honest.

Digitals Foundary's take on the demo...

I think the tree of paths whould be only shown either at the end of the game of at the end of each "chapter" (mission). The rewind feature is a killer imo. What's the point in developing a game with such an intricate story and thought provoking moments if the player can just get a pass and not invest any emotion or thought in any of his decisions? Kinda pointless.

I hope there's a "mode" where you can't rewind and the option to lock the tree of decision paths (like an immersion mode where you only have the info you can see, listen and read while you're actually playing).

I'm looking forward for the reviews of this game. I'm not buying it until I know if the game is bland and boring, where you have lots of different decisions but they don't impact the story line that much.

As the first two were definitely about choices and the impact of such, I think it's safe to assume this too will run along those lines, especially with the implied story line of emergent AI consciousness vs Human inhumanity.

I suppose it's best to be certain though.

Well, it was released today; anyone buying this? Here's Digital Foundary's complete tech analysis.

I just watched Super Best Friends LP of Beyond: Two Souls and I am ready for the awful Cageisms that is Quantic Dream. They start their LP on Monday so I'm gonna be checking it out through them.

Can't support Quantic Dream and David Cage considering how they basically throw game journos under the bus for (rightful) criticisms of how hackey and oftentimes poorly written Quantic Dream games are. Not even getting into the fact that they have some really...bad story elements throughout their games.

Doesn't even get into the fact that the last VN type games I have played (Analogue: A Hate Story and VA-HA11-A) absolutely spank anything Cage has made.

I bought it last night. I was very impressed with the demo and the game seems to be getting praise from some of the YouTube reviewers I trust (ACG, Skill Up).
I'm sure the writing is not excellent throughout the entire game but it sounds like it's good or very good the majority of the time. I've only played one David Cage game before - Heavy Rain on the PS3 (the PS4 version came free with Detroit, and I got Beyond Two Souls with PS+) - and I quite liked it.

If I'm not mistaken, the David Cage vs game journos thing has nothing to do with criticisms of Quantic Dream's games. It's about allegations of workplace harassment issues. Now whether those allegations are true or not, who knows? But Cage blacklisting and suing the journalists making the accusations is absolutely the right way to go if the allegations are indeed false as David claims.

As for the quality of Quantic Dream's work, yeah there's often significant problems with their stories and writing. But if you can laugh at the stupid bits, they're entertaining rides that are still somewhat unique in their approach, even in a videogame market now saturated with all kinds of takes on interactive stories such as Uncharted/TLoU, Life is Strange, Until Dawn, and countless Telltale games, VNs and walking sims. And from what I've seen of Detroit, it seems to be QD's best effort by far.

Yep @VBR I'll be getting this soon - probably end of the month.

Unfortunately: "At the time of typing, there’s no photo mode in Detroit: Become Human and no plans to add one." Source.

Hope you enjoy the game anyway.

Yeah, I'd guessed there wouldn't be a photo mode - no matter, I'll have ONRUSH shortly and still have the first three Uncharted games as well as TLoU remastered to go through yet (and God of War; MXGP3; The Order: 1886; Hellblade; No Man's Sky also Bound still to get) So there is such as thing as too many games with photo mode at any one time. Hopefully though it will get added later, as it would definitely enhance the game's longevity past six playthroughs.

Watched a playthrough yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and the story behind it, unfortunately I don't have a PS4 myself in order to play the game myself.

Just a heads up; Detroit Become Human is free for PS Plus subscribers this month. It's the Digital Deluxe edition so you get the PS4 remaster of Heavy Rain included as well.

👍

Taking a break from other games and playing this since it is free on ps+. Rather interesting stories with pretty good characters.

Not typically my type of game, but I will finish a single play through. Doubt I will touch it again after that.

Basically this is a glorified choose your own adventure book with some quick time events thrown in.

Finished this game together with my BF last week. Loved the characters (especially Kara and Alice), the setting and the story, which was a surprise for me since I hated Beyond Two Souls and abandoned it halfway through.

Thoroughly enjoyed doing a playthrough with My gf. After Some time passed we tried another playthrough But got stale very fast. Replay value much lower Then hoped, But engaging first time round.

Played this game in one sitting yesterday (with breaks of course). I really liked the gameplay and stories, but sometimes they seemed too cliché for my liking, which took me out of the experience a bit.

Overall, I really enjoyed the concept and will probably play again with a more egotistical and violent approach.

Interesting...I hated Heavy Rain, didn't buy the game after playing the demo, but I loved Beyond Two Souls & it became my favourite game of all time. I played the Detroit Become Human demo & didn't like that much either. I think Quantic Dream games are very divisive...
