Sony were showing this display off using a video of GT7 at SIGGRAPH last week on the Expo floor.

I saw it first hand, up-close, and it really was a stunningly bright image. Oncoming headlights made you squint and the Tokyo Expressway was lit up like never before. You are definitely giving up some detail in the dark areas of the image, particularly in cockpit view and in shadowed areas, but I'm not sure how much you'd notice it in normal gameplay.

The brightness of the snow in the rally stages felt like it could give you snow blindness!

So cool to see you got to see it first hand (I'm jealous ). I wonder if the graphics would be too bright for practical gameplay or if it would just increase the immersion... If this ever got implemented into a display I reckon GT might have to include a feature that would allow you to turn the brightness down for those who are more sensitive. I also wonder if such glare is really realistic when in real life you would have tinted windows and a racing visor? Just thoughts

I guess this prototype display is more about showing new technologies for professional market than about something new TCL/Sony TVs are going to introduce, so, consumer technology still won't catch up in foreseeable future.. ?

What I like about PD is that they’re always pushing technology to the limit.

At this point, I’m dying to see GT8 and find out what surprises it has in store in that regard (though I probably won't pick it up, given the end of physical media).

yes, trackside objects are still really poor and it makes the game look bad

PD has always been known to be innovators pushing the limits of hardware, but to be blunt, I wish they'd focus that time and resources into making GT7/8 a better game.

Bad enough that this super bright screen isn't planned to be mass produced, but Yasutomi even admits that this super bright screen would be tiring to look at for long periods of time, and that a regular screen would be better for long play sessions. In essence, they've spent all that time and resources on something that will in the never improve the experience of us GT players regardless of how advanced technology becomes, and I just can't help but to wonder what even is the point of that. All that is to say nothing of how ludicrously expensive everything, from hardware to electricity, is becoming for your average joe.

I'm admittedly not privy to how things work behind the scenes; maaaaybe Sony is paying PD for this experiment? It's just hard to not think that all that time, effort, and resources could've been used to bring us a city track or two in GT7, and/or opening car doors, bonnets, and convertible tops.

I think a lot of you saying oh they should do this they should do that…

Remember, Polyphony is still a Sony studio. Sometimes, they just do what they’re told.

The bit about HDMI 2.1 making a real difference for GT7 is spot on. Running at 120Hz with VRR on a proper OLED panel changes how the game feels quite noticeably. The motion clarity alone makes it easier to pick out braking points and track edges at speed. LG C series panels seem to be the go-to for a lot of sim racers for good reason. That said, even a decent 60Hz IPS panel with low input lag is still a huge step up from a standard living room TV. The gap between good and great displays is getting narrower every year.

Awesome. Hell i just got a 3k nit tv for 700 and there are 6000 nit TVs for around 1000 so im really glad PD future proofed GT Sport and GT7
