lol not happening
This thread is dying. Do you guys think it's time to re-open the spanish gp thread now? Or keep it closed until monday or tuesday?

EDIT by mod: Moved from the Bahrain GP discussion thread

famine said he was going to re open it on tuesday, but i think that's a little too late.
And I was under the impression that we were going to let lake take over making the race threads because he's so good at it. It's not a race to make the threads, and Blake is very, very thorough at what he does. Tuesday is by no means too late, because what would we discuss before the that we couldn't discuss on Tuesday?

But that would be a little unfair on those who really are that desperate to have a go, so I'd have to disagree with Blake in charge of all F1 GP threads. Everyone needs to get a chance sometimes.

If your life revolves around being given the opportunity to create a thread on an internet forum, I think you've got bigger issues. Blake's threads are good: they're through, detailed and usually pretty insightful. All these other ones are just people rushing to get their name next to the thread title.

(I don’t care who makes them, just don’t make them a week before the next practice session…)

I care. I vote for you, too.

I dunno, but I've never anything like an official decision, or even a consensus by the other users. It appears at some point you decided it's Blake's duty, and ever since, you've been pushing that into everyone who wanted to open a thread.

Never mind the fact that I, for example, compiled several of last year's race-threads, and a few well-organized winter threads covering pre-launch testing, launches, and post-launch testing, plus changes and modifications to the cars. I never recall anyone complaining about those.

Most epic.

Agreed. Blake needs to make the threads every tuesday before a GP, if he's up for it. Or perhaps Metar as well, some of the guys who 'know what they're talking about'. I also feel I could make a good GP thread.

Basically, if it's got a map, a clear title, some info on the current events and isn't more than four days ahead of FP1, why not create it?

None of this has anything to do with the Bahrain GP.

I guess not, but in my opinion it is the most appropriate place to discuss it,without making a specific thread just to decide the rules about making a GP thread. pretty much everything about Bahrain 2009 has been said and done, and we are just trying to resolve the race to make a thread issue. 👍 I thought it was pretty harmless but if you think otherwise then maybe it should be discussed elsewhere.

I just thought he'd been appointed after someone jumped the gun on making the Malaysian Grand Prix thread and figured he'd make up the mantle from then on, but people kept making them a week and a half in advance. Call me overly-demanding, but I do like to see the opening posts of these threads made in such a way that they're informative as opposed to someone trying to be the first to make a grand prix thread.

It's my fault. All I believe that all I said was that people shouldn't jump the gun and when they do make the thread, they should put effort in like Blake did and then BAM!

So basically in this new thread. To make GP thread:

Title
Map of circuit
lap records, previous poles or other statistics,
not just 'discuss'
and must be made at the earliest, the tuesday before the actual race.

Sorted.

We cannot make it so that it is one person's duty. All I would suggest is that the thread is created the Tuesday before the race and includes a track map, previous results and some interesting, pertinent information.

Some folk seem to have the impression that creating popular threads gains them some kudos or something, but it doesn't. It makes no difference who creates it, and this goes for the whole site, not just this particular series of threads.

He means, the opening post shouldn't just be "discuss" - which is something we've seen before.

But if you throw up some statistics and a map, there isn't much to discuss either way.

With all due respect to Blake, nobody is in charge of creating F1 race threads, so as long as the "one thread per race" ethos is kept. Putting one person in charge of new thread creation in a sub-forum that is readable by all members and guests diminishes the meaning of an internet discussion forum.

I personally have no problem with a new thread beginning the Monday before the race. Any earlier than that is unacceptable, and will be locked by the moderation staff. I advise and applaud everyone to start a new thread for dealings in F1 that are not directly related to the racing/qualifying of a particular race, as long it is not essentially duplicating another thread.

There's no prizes for starting a pointless and/or duplicate thread: At least be informative and or creative when starting one out.

It's often about being known in the forum, being a thread starter can help, in a way which some people dont realise to be negative until it's too late.

Trust me, I've been through the whole oh my god I must start this thread thing, a long long time ago.

Is it really that important?

Yes, you don't want.

Formula One - Australian GP

Discuss.

A brief summary of last years race, a track layout, some starter points (like any thread) and you're away. Blake makes good ones, but you can't say, "Only one person to make F1 race threads."

Is that not banned by the rules or is straight line testing allowed?

They are allowed limited straight line testing, how straight that line has to be, I don't know ;)
