chill out sir - I don't mind other people enjoying the game, but it would have been a serious mistake for me to buy it for the reasons I have stated many times before but here you go...
Terribly terrible AI.
No Qualification
No Standing Starts
No proper damage.
When all you can do is either hot lap or just keep repeating a few arcade style challenges (ie start from the back, pass some moving roadblocks, get to the front) and a few other non racing activities, I fail to see how they can talk about it being a racing game on the back cover.
I did make the mistake of buying GT5, believing all PD's hype about radically improved AI & real damage.
You should add these to the list:
- Awful sounds alltogether
- Mindblowing design decisions (for example Skyline R33 standard to semi-premium conversion, when there is EXACTLY the same model of R33 premium. It's just show how PD is ridicoulous in some areas. Oh, and the moon.. WTH)
- A lot of promises - 'it's a placeholder' ; 'in future updates' etc. However, if they do deliver, I will take this back, and buy everyone a candy.
- Tuning. Just.. lame..
- Some other problems which I don't remember at the moment.
However, all things considered, GT delivers these things:
- Great physics (I have played rFactor, LiveForSpeed, Forzas and I think GT is totally on par with those titles when we are talking about physics. Not so much with the GT5 tho.
- Great tracks. I mean seriously. Some of them looks bad, but I love that I have them and can drive on them whenever I want. Not to mention the implentation of weather/time in some of them. That's just super experience which I could NEVER have in ANY other game. Here you might give me a few driving titles, with a great list of tracks. But I highly doubt you will find one, which could offer the amount of cars GT is offering.
- Hotlapping. That's just my thing I guess. No game ever gave me an enjoyment of ultimate chillout when you can hotlap a few laps of Nurburgring/Suzuka after work.
- Constant updates. Although, I did say I don't like promises, but they did deliver with the GT5. Just have a look at GT5 1.00 and 2.15. Mindblowing upgrade of the game. I do agree, that developers should release finished games, but I don't mind when the game is good enough on the release and gets better later on. It keeps me a bit hyped all the time.
Pretty much how it is with GT6 right now. I have already got it. I played it. Felt a bit empty today, cause there is no ultimate hype no more. However, I do feel abit hyped about upcoming BMW M4, Course maker and lots of other stuff they PROMISED (just try not to do it, PD, just try.).
- Graphics/replays. On consoles there is no contest in my opinion. On everything else.. Pretty much the same. I think photomode sub-forum would explain this point better. in-game looks very good, however PS3 shows it's age. Oh, and replays. Still, not contest here. I have never seen a better replay on any other game, than GT.
And that's, folks, is my short opinion on the game. And that's why I don't think made a mistake of buying it. Game has a lot of issues and mindblowing design decisions, but it also offers SO much. As I have mentioned somewhere else, people like different things, different racing/driving games and stuff they can do in it (livery comes in my mind instantly). But saying that GT6 plainly sucks, because it doesn't deliver some things you can find in other games is not right.
And when you put it in a certain context, it even gets ridicoulous. For example Bioshock Infinite (i loved that game btw).
About 10 hours of playtime and that's it. Great story, great graphics and so on. But this game offered me just 10 hours of playtime. It doesn't really offer any replaybility. And this comes into 5€/hr.
I played GT5 for HUNDREDS of hours. And I got a lot more for my money. A lot. Do I have to mention that minimum wage in my country is 285€?
My point is, GT offers a great value for it's money. However it is bashed by reviewers (journalist, or whatever those guys call themselves) and some gamers. It should be, but we also have to remember what it does offer you a lot, despite having A LOT of issues.
Anyway, I am really tired after writing this comment. Sorry for my english, it's not my native language afterall. Just kind of tired of this continous bashing. In my opinion GT is not a 10/10 game and probably not even 9/10, but it is a game you should buy if you love DRIVING.
