 Forgot all about the race tonight. Missed the first slot. Gotta wait an hour. Should have reminders.

See how we go

Edit oh well. All that for 443pts. My trigger finger went numb on the last lap. Maybe it's time for a wheel.

Is it worth fuel burning for qualy? I haven't had much time to practice a qualy strategy this week.

It almost seems to me the Supra is easier to drive with full fuel.

I think regardless I'd rather get as many laps in as possible. It's been too easy to make mistakes with this car so to fuel burn enough and only give myself one shot at a lap is riskier than I'd like to play it.

Funnily enough this was my thoughts when going from free practise to lobby conditions. Car felt a good bit more forgiving when full of fuel and tyre wear on.

It wasnt faster but definitely more consistent.

PSN down for maintenance. I tried to join the 6pm race, and it crashed the game.

Now it is 6.15pm and I have to wait almost TWO HOURS, even though there isn't even any Manufacturers races.

What's the betting the servers will be overloaded for the only two chances left?

Nation is really horrible . Track's limits are so stupid and the Supra stock tune is a pain to drive. I really don't understand why a such important car for PD & toyota partner was trashed with a so bad base settings and PD staff let it pass this way , really stupid.👎👎👎

The track limits at Kyoto still need work.

Weak slipstream invites super late drive bombs. Some players already don't need any special invitiation here.

Cars hitting each other can unbalance the car so much that it can send one or both players flying.

Curbs hit at the wrong angles or dropping over the outside edges can have the same effect. I think some of the spectators are randomly throwing banana skins on these. Hitting one of these curbs at top speed probably would send the real car flying I guess.

The car sometimes feels like its floating. Its not a nice feeling. I think its trying to kill you. G29 user.

The only positive I can think of is that its still fun drifting through the long fast corners knowing it can't actually kill me. Yes, I know this is slower and is not actually racing.

Qualified and finished 2nd at Yamagiwa, despite setting the fastest lap in the race. No penalties at any point for me, and no problems at all with the track limits. Quite looking forward to the Supra Cup now, which I'm sure will go out the window after about three corners of Fuji.

Glad to see I'm not alone in my feelings about this car. I'm worried about this race haha. I need big points tonight to salvage what I can from this stage. But I have a feeling it's going to be one of the those "yelling at the tv" kind of races.

HAHA yea, wasn't Toyota saying they'd take feedback from GT Sport and apply it to the real car or something? If Toyota is planning on killing everyone that drives this car they should stick with these stock GTS settings.

Had a poor qualifying, and sector 1 of the race was a bit of a warzone and I ended up with a 5s penalty. After that, it was going ok till the last few laps where a made a load of mistakes and got a few more penalties.

Agree, but I think Saturday's Supra Cup race on Fuji with SH tyres will be even more worse.

That was quite fun. Qualified 2nd, came 3rd but also got fastest lap. Soft tyres help. I like the crackling exhaust when you are off the throttle, which is hardly ever but I spent a lap playing with it in qualifying.

Onwards onto the Supra cup!

True - Felt like an elephant on skates, during this race...

Quick question (apologies if it's been answered before; I searched and couldn't find the answer). I took part in 2 races this round:
  • 8pm: qualified 12th, finished 10th, ~240 points
  • 10pm: qualified 2nd, finished 2nd, ~150 points
I was in a weaker field in the 10pm race - all but one player's DR was D, with one A+ - but what I'm questioning is that my points have now dropped for the round (so I might as well have not done the 10pm race).

Does the game score you on the last race alone if you take part in more than one during a round?

Yes, the last race you do is the one that counts

Got sabotaged by someone on their out lap (once again...) in qualifying so had a terrible starting position, got caught up in a crash going up the hill on the first lap, then my PS4 decided to shut itself off for no reason. It’s going to be one of those nights...

This is usually what happens when it’s the most important/biggest points opportunity race of the season for you.

I feel the Supra equalises the field. Some of the recent cars, haven't been standard handling fare. Yes, there are fast players still fast, but I've gotten closer to those fast times.

In the "normal" handling cars, I've been leagues slower. The Supra is so quirky, I've spent so much time with it, it's handling doesn't surprise me. The gearing, sound and reading about it, anticipation of the GT4 car, waiting to see the road car in the streets, I feel has lots to do with liking to drive it in game.
I'm using it's quirkiness, to make me sharper at driving it. Good stuff.

What happened today at the Nations Cup was absolutely painful. My qualifying was horrible where I had qualified 16th. On the other hand, I had finished 12th. I entered the same race later but crashed horribly and I quit after thw second lap. This prompted me to boycott all point races with the Yamagiwa track from then on. I'm through with Yamagiwa!

I've heard that there's been renewed criticism about the points system, at least in the EMEA region. The main complaint being that the second split in each time slot is too easy relative to the points that are available. Let me take a few paragraphs to assess this years structure as a whole.

Last year, I brought up how non-Japanese players could bank good scores from the second split and make the Asia-Oceania final without actually having to race the top players, a fact that some players inadvertently or purposefully benefited from. I imagine the other regions had a similar issue. The region split solved this in Oceania if not all small regions, as now the second split is a much lower score. But EMEA is still EMEA, and in fact the new time slot schedule made the problem worse for them.

It is this that made me realise exactly why PD has opted for a structure that favours big results. PD must have seen that they needed to incentivise racing in the top split, and beyond major changes to the race format or points formula, the best way to do that was to offer more chances to score in each round and over the season. Hence why we ended up with a best 10 rounds out of 40 structure with retries.

This encourages everyone to race in the top split or highest split their DR allows, as even if you have a lot of bad races, you only need sporadic big results to finish high overall. It's not an ideal structure, as consistency isn't rewarded, and performance under pressure goes largely untested. But I think it does a lot to mitigate the second split issue.

The issue isn't 100% solved however. It wouldn't surprise me to see some EMEA players attempt the DR tank in the Supra Cup, as that has a format more similar to last year's FIA; one-shot, best 5 rounds out of 13.

Hey Mr Kazunori. Take the guy that did the mazda roadster 89 stock tune to do the right job on the supra. This car is magic , perfectly balanced. Congrats to him. Please.

This thing is a handful even on TC1.

Nothing like going from 6th to last first turn after getting punted terribly then hitting someone else off the track leaving me a 5 second penalty and 2 laps worth of damage.

@JayOTT Players are already purposefully tanking their DR in EMEA in order to race in 2nd split, because a podium there scores more than being 7th in a lobby full of world finalists. Some race slots have seen points differences below 100 between top and 2nd split, because top splits are nearly maxed out. Even worse, one disconnect while lobby is loading means top split gives less points than second split, while still being significantly harder. Although so far it didn't pay, some people could definitely take advantage of that in Manufacturers. Nations seems difficult to reach with 2nd split races now, but it's technically still possible. Supra Cup, if the amount of qualified people is the same, could see someone from even 3rd split getting a spot for the final.

Up until now, the highest 2nd split we had seems to be 2996 or 2998 points, and more often than not they give 2950+. I am not aware of a 3000+ 2nd split but this could happen. Meanwhile, the highest score for top splits (excluding the Top 16) is 3105 points, while your average top split win seems to be around 3050 so far. According to our calculations, theorical max points in a regular lobby would be 3125 points, and 3250 in a Top 16 with the 30% bonus (this is an estimation though, in reality that might be a bit higher as the formula doesn't seem linear, we suspect there's some kind of coefficient, but I'd be extremely surprised if those values exceeded 3150 and 3280).

Another issue is that scores are going to be stupidly close at the end of the whole season. Current standings at the top are already extremely tight - we're talking about less than 10 points gaps in the top 10 (top 2 FR are separated by only 3 points), and this will only get tighter. There might even be some ties, and the line between qualifying and not qualifying will probably be single digit points. In other words, someone might not go to a world tour or world finals because an usual "backmarker" didn't enter a time slot and was replaced by someone with lower DR. When the drivers limit for countries like UK, France or Italy is 2 and might get to 1 for the finals, this is a problem.

When you see people racing in top splits on a regular basis being out of top 100 in the standings, that means something is not working out. Actually, if the Nurburgring World Tour qualifications are what I've been told for Manufacturers, then the overall winner of Asia (Akagi, aka Kokubun) won't be qualified because someone in another region got lower points than 4th splitters while racing in top splits (yeah that's me, having less points from top splits than a friend who just broke the A+ barrier and finishes 20+ seconds behind me in practice).

Nations went surprisingly well. I got p4, sure I cheated a bit and used TCS which might have saved a spin or too. I did 2 attempts and on the 2nd I felt like I finally figured the car out. That race went super smooth and if it wasn't for someone stopping right in front of me.on the straight I imagine I would have gotten pole by several 10ths.

I qualified p5 on .165 behind the leader, the next guy was .6 behind. By mid race I was in p4 with p3 4 secs ahead of me and p5 4 secs behind. Thats when I zoned in and maybe p2 and 3 started battling because I managed to catch them by the end of the race but just came short.

I assume so that they can eventually buff it and claim that players feedback has helped Toyota's development of the GR Supra

I should have done the same and tanked my DR. Qualified 20th to finish 20th in Oceania top split only to get zero points. 2nd split I would have been in the top 5.
