Tonight was interesting. Nations was filled with TTGs and AMSs, I didn't expect to be in a lobby with those top guys. Qualified 20th, finished 17th one lap down. In Manufacturers, I completely messed up qualifying and was stuck in the midfield. My race pace was very good and I narrowly missed out on 10th place after starting 17th. I need to qualify better.

Manu - R2 - Aston Martin

I was somehow in the top split. This was my first FIA/Manu race since 2018, so I wanted to get a feel for it and see if I want to continue.

I had an okay race. Started and finished 15th. Someone accidentally tapped me into the grass, so my hopes of reaching 11th went down the drain.

I like the longer races. This race was fun, even when I ended up losing positions... but I'm not much of a fan of having a race every few days. That easily stresses me out. I'll probably do 1 more race and then go back to messing around in the Daily Races.

Manufacturer here:I started in 18th position, at the finish line in ninth position; in the race my best lap with the hard and medium tires was the same, I don't understand why I'm so poor in qualifying every time.
Luckily I managed to do 13 or 14 laps clean with the hard tires because on the last lap I was in bad shape with medium tires.
However at the end of the races many people admitted to having taken the 20 second penalty on purpose, to do three stints with the medium tires.

Rant: People that crawl around the track trying to burn fuel during qualifying are super annoying. Always getting in the way.
It only makes sense to drive not too fast in the outlap due to tyres but dedicating the entire qualifying fuel burning kills it.
Can't blame the players though, PD had to do something about it.

Luckily i'm not too good so my rooms never bother fuel burning like crazy (and this is from a room that got almost everybody penalized for not using hard tyres:lol:)

I’m in mixed emotions by this one. My first real (practiced for) attempt at a manufacturers race. I started 3rd and made my way into 1st by the start of lap 2. I opted for the 2 start after starting on mediums for 7 laps then on to hards. I got held up by an NSX and Aston who just kept blocking me off but I eventually got free and managed to continue a good pace until lap 13. Pitted back on to mediums and went for it. My tyres were toast and I closed the 4s gap to first. I got the inside line on him in the final corner but he just had too much power because we all know Porsche’s are slow on the straights! Oh and I got fastest. Lap!

My mistake at the last corner of Interlagos ended up with this thanks to the slipstream hehe

It was really a clean and epic race mate.

Until PD do something about it. The solution is to burn fuel yourself, easier to manage a gap too.
Burning fuel option is only a very good option for aliens or at least people able to perform their best lap in 1 try. This is not my case or the case of 99,9% of the GT players.
This is why i try to perform a good time since the beginning of the very short 10 minutes window.
Burning fuel this way with the consumption setted at 10 like we have now , will make a very little difference between a guy who burn his gas with a fast pace and someone who stay in 1st gear messing with the lap of the majority.
Yesterday i did 2 pole positions on both accounts at BMB performing this fast lap during the first or second 10 mn qualifications laps.

A real mix of a combo I loved and a combo that I was horrible at.

Nations

REALLY enjoyed this combo. First attempt was scuppered by an unfortunate accident that caused engine damage. Second attempt qualified 9th and unfortunately made a really silly mistake on the first lap at the third corner. I went off track and fell all the way to 17th before I got going again. Stuck to the 11M 11M 5H strategy and recovered to 5th. Could easily have been a podium if I hadn't messed up but still had a lot of fun with this race.

Manufacturers
Lets just say that Interlagos is not a good track for me and that I'm regretting choosing Ferrari and leave it at that. The only reason I didn't get 0 points was because someone left during the warm up.....

Nations did twice. I've never used the Xanavi 08 car in GTS and did struggled a lot on race 1. Was about to finished 3rd but span. On slot 2 my qualy was better, managed pole and in the race I did not have much challenge to fight me. Pace was still weak compared with the top lobbies world wide, I need to improve a lot on Gr2.

For manufacturers, also ran 2 slots. First one I started 6th and finished 5th, bad qualy cost me. Slot 2 my qualy lap was just a tiny bit better, still not a great lap but got pole. For the race everything was going well until I got overtaken inside the pits even though I did not refuel or change tyres. This is a very old bug and PD still havent fixed it. Cost me a win this.

I don't know. The way I see it, I get a couple tenths basically for free and I don't even have to burn so much fuel that I get only one try. Also, like I said you can manage the track and set a gap for your flying lap.
I got only one lap aborted and only because the guy ahead, who was doing his flying lap too, lost it and got in front of me. Since I started fuel burning I haven't had any issues with people blocking my laps.
There's literally no reason not to do it. If you get pole without fuel burning you will definitely get it doing it.

My race had a nob who got himself on pole, then got enough penalties to be in 14th by lap 8. Sadly I was in 13th and he was one of those entitled characters who doesn't take not being where he thinks he should be well. After nudging me out of his way onto the grass (I assume that grip reduction was "real", because my rear tyres were just plastic after that) I thanked him for ruining my race with his total lack of racecraft, and his response was "I am faster I got pole".

Turns out he wasn't actually faster across the whole race (despite being in the Mercedes AMG GT, compared to my McLaren 650S; the qualifying difference was 0.8s), but also somewhat proved my point about being a hotlap specialist with sod all racecraft. As did his white SR S in the results screen.

Sadly it also dropped me from DR A to DR B, because 17th *sigh*

Edit: I'm now 12th for McLaren, but still ahead of Adam Suswillo :D

Logic , if you perform your fast lap at the end of the session , then nobody is burning fuel anymore at this time , so you can't be prejudiced of course. Anyway , people should have the choice of the quantity of gasoline for qualification. Who think is able to perform his best lap in 1 lap or 2 , put the gas for this , who's not sure , put some more.
On short track like BMB yesterday , it's almost impossible for 20 peoples spread themself enough around the track to burn fuel in 1st gear without messing with others driver's fast laps.

Giving in and trying the '08 GT-R for the next round of Nations. I hate doing that.

Many who were once anti-meta-car, after spending some time in top split FIA lobbies, realize that unless you're one of the top few aliens you don't really have a choice. There's usually a long list of cars that can be competitive in the lower-tier lobbies, but once you're trying to squeeze the last 1-2s out of them, some cars just can't do it even when driven flawlessly.

Rant: People that crawl around the track trying to burn fuel during qualifying are super annoying. Always getting in the way.

I'm confused how crawling around at redline to burn fuel, actually works better than just doing laps at full tilt. Makes no sense.

Again, see above. It's one of those things that you only see in the top few lobbies. Yes, it's super annoying, but until it gets changed, you can either join the club or qualify .5s slower in a lobby where thousandths of a second can make the difference. If you get your fuel below 50% you start to see a big difference. Below 25% and you're flying.

Personally, I always try for a banker lap. Burn fuel on the out-lap, hit a banker, burn fuel on the in-lap, pit for tires, burn fuel on out-lap again or as many laps as I can before the timer gets too low. Then one flying lap. I'm not good enough to put all my eggs in one basket and hope I nail that flyer at the end. I rarely get my fuel as low as the top guys, but at least I give myself 2 chances to bin it instead of one

I was exhausted yesterday. I could only manage the middle slot at Interlagos before passing out. Started 9th and finished 9th. I hadn’t found a strategy that I liked yet with the WRX, miscalculated and grabbed way too much fuel. It was an amazing race but I definitely should have competed in the final slot to bag more points.

The new race settings are awesome. I’m a fan.

The ranking method for Manufacturers seems a bit problematic. As an individual, each player only needs 5 counting scores, but the manufacturer score is based on all 10 scores. So, for example, the 3 highest scoring Honda drivers in EMEA from round 1 all sat out round 2, and this absolutely hammered Honda's points. I suppose the top drivers all understand this, and know if they want their manufacturer to qualify (I know this is just an exhibition season, but I'm looking at it in a broader sense, this being the first time I've driven in a Manufacturers season) they need to race every round, but it seems a bit odd to have these two separate scoring systems in the same championship, one of which requires people to race every round (if they want their manufacturer to do well), and another which doesn't.

Nations

11th to 9th. I knew the 08 gtr was easily the best car but the rebel in me ment I took the 16 lexus. Just stuck to my strat of 10(m) 11(m) 6(h) and this gave me pretty much free air from about lap 8 onwards in what turned out to be a relatively lonely race for me.

Manufactuers

12th to 6th in the citreon. Great race this one. Went 7(m) 7(m) 5(h) some good battles throughout race and last 3 laps were awesome as the 1 and 2 stop strats came together.

Picked up 1500 points for nations and 1800 for manu and maintained my top 10 finish record for both competitions.

Must say these new FIA setting are superb. Seems like some real thought and testing has gone into them as the tyres compounds cross over nicely during the race and fuel is factor as well......let's make sure PD are aware how happy this is making us so they dont go back to short, static boring races

S-FR Concept Cup again in N300. *yawn* Passing on that one this time.
Having a second thought to do it with one of the new cars from the next update.

The Coronet will probably have a top speed of 10mph, 365 GTB may be out of my Cr range, the Sting Ray might be Gr.X and the Camaro might be too powerful to de-tune to N300.

Tell me about it.
Alfa Romeo had a great start from Oceania and this round every region just ended up doing miserable points, sinking low.

It's best 5 out of 10

Thanks, I had thought that only applied to the driver scores, not the manufacturer scores, but looking again at what I had looked at before, I see those are a subset as well (this is what I looked at before https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gtsport/fia2019/detail/ ). The totals had made me think every round had counted for the manufacturer scores, but it's because it's an example based on more rounds.

It still means that the top players need to drive every round, though, if the best 5 scores are taken at the global level. Either that, or for a given manufacturer, the top drivers from every region need to collaborate to race the same rounds. Otherwise, if different regions sit out different rounds, they'll end up with 10 mediocre scores rather than 5 great scores and 5 very poor scores.

Changed to Aston Martin and skipped the rainy Red Bull. In the second Manufacturers race at Interlagos I thought I would be competitive as I have most my GT Sport wins on that track. It was a long race and based on recommendations (thanks Zombiespeed82) I went on Mediums as deep in the race I could and then on to the Hards.
This paid off as after qualifying 4th I managed to win the race ! My 25th win .... :gtpflag:
It was quite a workout with that many laps but I really enjoy these longer races.

On the whole fuel burning thing: There's already been quite a lot of discussion about this and how we need to get rid of it but it works better because you are always high in the rev range instead of going down a bit every time you upshift even though you are at full throttle. IRL you obviously wouldn't do that, the engine and brakes would probably overheat. GT doesn't appear to do engine and brake temps like Project CARS and other sims, even though it does tyre temps (I could be wrong). F1 had an unintended fuel burn phase in Q3 at one point but at least they fixed it after a season. I try to not impede anyone if I am fuel burning but on the first outlap no one is on a hotlap so I'm not going to take any extra evasive action other than sticking to one side of the road.

As for the current exhibition series: It's been quite interesting so far. I'm not doing any practice other than putting in a few laps just before so I don't mess up anyone's race from being more pleb than usual. I actually had to use qualifying for Gr2 BMB as extra practice because I still needed more time to familiarise myself with the combo. This also means I have no idea on the best strategy or alternate strategies if battling for position. I'm also limiting myself to 1 shot each for nations and manu just for my sanity. The mandatory tyre usage is a welcome addition, 20 second penalty might not be enough, personally I would've made it 1 minute but that's just me.

The fuel burn phase in the original Q3 was fully intended, FYI, and it lasted a couple years. Although of course the FIA would never allow such driving in real life, and nor would the engines.

The season announcement says that best 5 of 10 rounds count, but both rounds have been counted so far (this is different to the regular season).

So I can only assume they will start to discount results after Round 5 at the earliest.

This system was used last year so it's nothing new. The whole "effective points system, best 1/4 scores counts" was only used for the official season this year because it was so long. We're going back to "best 5 rounds count" from the very start so yes rounds won't be greyed out until you have more than 5 scores.

Not sure if the global manu scores are the same but it currently looks that way.

My first post here in GTPlanet, but a long time lurker since the GT5 days. :D

I have skipped Rounds 1 and 2 of the Nations Cup, and focused my efforts on Round 2 of the Manufacturers Cup at Interlagos. I proudly represent Peugeot and fought hard for this result with strategy and consistency!

Hard fought, due to a Ferrari driver being quicker overall than me. I started in the RH tyres and held off an attacking Alfa Romeo driver who was desperate to get past me. Once we pitted at lap 11, I put on the RM tyres and sprinted to the finish, passing the Ferrari who was struggling on old tyres. He made a splash and dash on lap 16 and began to reel me in but it was too late for him, I crossed the finish line with a 2.5 second gap. Very happy with the result!

Contrary to popular belief, I am not that fearful of the Gr.4 race at Fuji, on the 25th. I've been running about 1 second slower than the Top 10 Stars currently... Not sure what to think of it, but I won't go down without a fight! :D

Great news! I will also be able to attend the Nations Cup event on the 25th as well! I'm torn between using the X-Bow or the SFR Racing Concept... I'm gunning for the win here. I'll have to try both cars, see how they stack up.

Plus, I have to have enough time to get up a nice livery of my nation's colours! Viva la France! :sly:

After a long time not racing on FIA I decided to give it a shot. I signed with Mitsubishi which I have nicknamed "the snail" because I was losing 0,4 just on the straights of Interlagos.

I did the fuel burn but did I think 3 fast laps. The last one was ruined due to a penalty because I overtook a car entering the pits using an unortodox line. 0.5 seconds I think it was. Since the game decided not to make me serve the penalty on the outlap it destroyed my last fast lap. Congrats on whoever implemented this piece of crap.

Qualy 0.6 from pole which was enough for 5th.

The guy just ahead of me was in a GTR and I thought he was using the hards at the start because he was going so slow.
I did touch the back of his car by mistake and almost make him spin in the tighter part of the track. The front of my car was very slightly on his tail I tried to back out but could not. He almost lost it. But managed to stay ahead. Because of that his acceleration was screwed and mine too, I had to wait a lot to not make him spin. Got overtaken briefly on the outside and had to hold the inside line to not push wide an Audi. The gtr braked early in the last corner and the Audi rear ended him as a result. They both stayed on track but that killed the momentum of the Audi giving me back 5th place.

On the straight I could not catch the gtr even with slipstream. On turn one I braked earlier but still was later than the gtr and I went on the inside cleanly until half my car was half at his and he turned into me like there was no one there making him bounce outside the track. He lost several positions because of that and tried to rejoin later in turn 3 and again slammed his car sideways onto another one who was on the inside.

I escaped the pack in 4th place with 3rd 2.6 secs ahead. I was catching up in the slower section but losing as much in the straight. Did 10 laps on the medium tyre the 9 laps on the hard tyre. Acording to my lap times it would have been better to do 9 on mediums and 10 on hards. I was the only one on that strategy.

I did a video summary of the whole race with commentary but it is in spanish. It is quite short 11 min. Accelerated all the boring bits.

Finished 2nd for 19XX points which I think was great just looking how awful the top speed is. Fastest Mitsubishi in LATAM woooo!
