Pfft. Best-looking cars on sale. Not to mention the mental engine tech - and the fact it was the only major brand not to use down-sized turbo engines with fake fuel economy figures.

I wear my Mazda fangirl badge with pride. But the Atenza Gr.4 in the game is a tyre-chewing bag of ****.

I would love to sign with Mazda, being a Mazda guy at heart. Unfortunately, the Gr4 car keeps me away...far away.

I commend you guys for having the guts to race that hot mess of a car.

Nations - Round 3

What an absolute shambles. I had really been looking forward to thrashing a Gr.1 Le Mans car around the home of Le Mans itself, but as has often been the case in GT Sport, other players had other ideas. I ditched the Audi R18 at the last moment and went with the Toyota TS050 Hybrid, as this has often been the car to beat in previous Gr.1 rounds. Qualifying was unremarkable, I started from 7th and stuck to mediums, hoping they would go the full distance. But all race plans went out the window as the lights went out - I stuffed the launch and was 9th in the blink of an eye, blocked out by an SRT Tomahawk an an Audi who were trying to avoid a 962 ahead, which had also failed to launch. Things couldn’t get much worse I thought, on approach into Turn 1. At that moment a Peugeot shot in off the track from my left, and speared into a car in front, and then wedged itself in the middle of the corner. I had nowhere to go and hit the Peugeot’s side with full force, spinning 90 degrees the other way and stuck facing the sand. Some 5-6 cars were involved in the accident, and I quickly found myself in last place, but determined to finish to at least report the Peugeot driver for being a Grade A Bell End.

Finally managing to get the Toyota pointing the right way, I set off in the hope of ruining the Peugeot driver’s race. I didn’t have to go far - they had missed the entry to Tetre Rouge and was off the circuit - only 10 more places to go I thought. But with the quality of driving I witnessed on the rest of Lap 1, I began to think that was in fact an achievable goal. As the accident total grew and the penalties began to mount, I moved further and further up the places table, passing an Audi that pitted on Lap 2 and moving into 9th.

I passed the 962 that had earlier blocked the race start, and avoided an accident with another Toyota in the second chicane, as a Mazda LM55 tried to muscle in on the Toyota’s line, resulting in a crash and handed the Toyota an undeserved penalty. However, heading into Indianapolis I braked and geared too hard too soon, only to narrowly avoid an attempt by the other Toyota to ram me off the track, approaching the left hander hugging the left side and then spearing up the bank right towards me (I later reported them too). As the race progressed and the tires wore, I considered pitting on Lap 4, but ended up posting my FL of 03:27:474, so decided to stay out as others pitted behind me. The last lap was tense as the car began to slip and slide, but I maintained a 5 second lead crossing the line in 4th.

Manufacturers Round 3

I wasn’t expecting much from Tokyo - I’ve never done terribly well on these circuits. The wall penalties are too easy for other drivers to exploit, and I always struggle to get that first right hand turn. So it was quite a shock to be top of the time sheets after Lap 1. So shocking in fact I then rammed right into the 10th placed driver ahead of me an incurred a 2 second penalty, which put me back to 3rd for qualifying.

As the lights went out I managed to move into second, as the 1st placed Jag hit the wall of T1, but before long they were back ahead in 2nd, with an orange BMW closing in behind me. And so began the longest game of cat and mouse I’ve ever been part of, defending 3rd place for some 10 laps. The BMW managed to pull alongside a few times, and also managed to slip by once or twice, on the hairpin into the final straight.

But the BMW couldn’t match the Aston for power, and I would draft them each time they passed, pulling ahead by T1 of the next lap. I crossed the line in 3rd only just ahead of the BM. What a battle!

Looking over tomorrow's Nation's race. I noticed it's a grid start with false start check. I've never done that before, what exactly does that mean? Can I not just not lay on the throttle during the countdown or something?

I'm a Mazda owner too. We'll see how the Gr.3 RX-Vision turns out(hope it has a cool looking gauge cluster). If Mazda can somehow say, "Bump that! Make a Gr.4 version as well!", I'm on it like a hornet!

About the Grid start, best to keep your brakes applied and build revs, for those turbo cars, just before the lights change to green.

I just did a practice race for tomorrow's Nation's race and learned a few things. 1. I can do a no-stopper over 25 laps and 2. Oh, man those esses before the hairpin are going to be a massive cluster:censored:, especially with the collision penalties being turned off.

You have to hold the brake until the lights go out. If you go before, it cuts the throttle for a certain amount of time depending on how soon you jumped.

I understand, with a limited grid of 20 and how ever many hundreds of players... still... Grids of one car just makes it boring.

Top 5 qualifiers are GT-Rs. I'm starting on RH and switching to RM on lap 1. Dudes were banging during qualy.

Edit: All that for one spot lower. The Atenza started behind me. Should have just stayed on the RH whole race.

Gotta do what you gotta do to get the points I'm afraid, with the BoP the way it is.

Anyway, same race and I caught these two dudes napping:

What seems to be the fastest strategy for the Nations race? Any tips for a beginner?

I had a good run staying out a lap or two extra than the field. Went M/M. If you keep the pace up you can find a little pocket of space while earlier pitters get caught on each other on inlaps and outlaps.

Hards aren't a requirement, don't need to run them at all

I realised that after Qualy. Anyway, didn't lose much time with what was going on in the race. Taking evasive action in the downhill section, having to give up a spot to a GT-R that I wasn't comfortable having behind me. I actually lost more time, mid race, avoiding a couple cars which ended with me in a spin at T1 and still finished where I finished.

Am I at fault or the is it the other players Europe connection?
I took responsibility and dropped to the back of the field but it would have been just a shove without the lag

Did you look at it on his stream? The relative placement of the cars was quite different, which presumably was a latency issue. Based on how it looked on your side, I don't see how it can be regarded as your fault in any way.

Well after trying nearly every GR3 car I thought might be competitive before relenting and going to the GT-R (I'd have loved to use the Lambo but once the tyres start to wear you can see Death himself appear on the entry to T4 swinging his scythe - you just hope it misses!), I'm not looking forward to the race later! Guarantee it'll be chaos and me being me, trying to avoid people, will no doubt get swallowed up by half the field that starts behind me.

Tried 1 stop and 2 stop runs, both were fairly clean, no big mistakes anywhere and both runs ended with the same race time so it'll all depend on race position I think as to what I do - and the effect of any post-football pints:D:cheers:!!

Yeah I saw his stream and there were people calling me an idiot and dirty. Yeah definitely latency issues, guess thats bound to happen when some players live on the opposite side of the world from the servers that they play on... shame because it ruined 3 peoples races. I'll take some responsibility, I did go in a bit deep. Careful T1 everyone!

May miss this nations round with everyone saying it's basically a free for all with no to little penalties being given out. Also the fact that I've had no luck in the nations races so far doesn't help at all.

I got lucky. There's not even any other way to describe it. Started 10th, they were 5 wide going into the first corner. I hit someone there but emerged in 6th. An RCZ and a GT-R went off on the back section in the first lap, and a Ferrari who was up with me fell away. There was a Porsche in 2nd who binned it just before the pit stops. The GT-R from the first lap pitted twice and should have been 2nd, but I got a free podium despite driving within myself for ~23 laps. Good luck if you try this, you'll need it.

Wasn't that bad in the end. I ran TCS1 for a tyre wear and punt safety net, moved from 13th to 9th off the grid and then back to 19th in the first corner, then, after only actually overtaking two people, finished 6th. Everyone else either fell off of their own accord or were helped off. Nearly got tangled in someone else's tit-for-tat, got to shuffle a punter off the circuit (French guy in a stock livery 911 RSR; was diving up the inside in every braking zone and using other cars to slow him both in qualy and the race. Tried a full punt, missed, wasn't allowed to rejoin the circuit by my fat M6) and into 20th, but otherwise quite routine.

One stop, medium, medium and no fuel in the M6. Passed a load of two-stoppers in the pits, hards might do the full race.

I did a no-stop practice race on hards without much of a problem. I'm doing practice laps in mediums to figure out if the time difference warrants a no-stopper over a one-stopper. Right now, I'm running ~0.2xx faster on the mediums so I'm not sure yet...

Edit: Never mind, something must've clicked in. I'm now more than a full second faster on the mediums than the hards. One stopper it is.

Nations was a right laugh tonight. Did my qualifying lap on my 1st flying lap (and managed to get 5th), but didn't get a slipstream on the 2nd attempt so I bailed out of it.

I went with the Mercedes, because I wanted to drive something different than the GTR. The merc gets off the line better than the GTR, but I couldn't find a way through so settled on the inside of the 1st corner and played it safe, and came out of it in 4th. I pretty much held that for a few laps, with about 6 of us dicing for position. It started to kick off on lap 5 and then the carnage ensued. It was basically pot luck whether you survived or not, and I managed to almost make it to 1st before getting sucked back into the mess.

On lap 11 I made my fateful mistake, I tapped a guy gently on the behind going into the sharp left hander on the back of the circuit, eased off to let him back in and then got passed by the guy behind, who then went for the guy I tapped. It all got messy going into the esses, and then the guy I had hit went up the inside going into the final corner. I was still on the outside, and unfortunately he decided to pit and since I was on his right hand side I got put off the track and then into the pit.

I tried to recover, but unfortunately that put me in a pack of GTR's and since they were slightly faster than me in a straight line then they could overtake me on the straight, but I couldn't overtake them (even though I felt I was faster towards then end of each stint). I sat at the back of a pack of 6 cars and just hoped for some drama, but everyone pretty much behaved themselves so I ended up 8th. Good fun race and I'll be honest I didn't really miss the penalties :)

Still went better than my race

The first race was awful for me... Started P8, unfortunately I was on the outside for turn 1 and got punted as several others (replay showed it was more of a racing incident than someone actually messing up). So I was P18 or so. In the next laps I gained several places due to players crashing out. After the pit stops I was P9, then made a mistake and ended up in P11 I believe.

2nd race started P11. This time I was on the inside and gained some places in turn 1. Had several battles throughout (very fun and fair!) and in the end it was P3. That one was very fun. Maybe I'll upload the footage later

Today was fun, in some part I decided to keep my elbows out when I get push to one side & it was fun. I did 3 races no great Q I kept mess up & only getting 54.5 not close to my expected 53.9. I say that because in the practice I get 53.2.
Anyway race 1 p8 got p10 2nd race did a better time but from P1 to p10 was less than 1sec. 2nd race P10.
Third and last race I totally messed up Q got 20th :banghead: . I thought, Ok I may get P15 if lucky P11 I got P7:D.
But I got a penalty that was not my fault on the last lap. A car spun Infront of me I try to avoid & forgot about the car coming up which I hit on the bend as it went around me:banghead:. After race I said sorry, all was good, great race.
I forgot to read the race rules:banghead: until the last race, 1st two races I used both hard & med last race med all the way.

I now know I will only race more than 1 time if my 1st race was crap.
If my 1st race, I get in the top 5 I won't race again no Matter how easy the race is.
