Perhaps the strategy is to do two stops and split evenly between Soft/Medium/Soft
After like 9 laps you are perhaps lighter for the medium stint.

Yeah I think you’re right. This way I won’t have to tire save at all really and can push. Would be nice if I had a bit more fuel in the Mustang though. Pushing for two stints leaves me with little to no fuel. Filling up for the last 10 laps or so is so painful.

Overall been happy with the ‘stang (as I like to call it). Much easier to drive than the previous Ferrari I had.

Nations Cup Round 5
What the hell was this abomination of a round? I thought Tokyo was bad on Sunday, but this was so much worse.

Two attempts again because this was a complete nightmare.

On the first attempt I accidentally cut the second half of the final chicane on my outlap and got a penalty, so I quit and went back to the pits to get straight back out on another outlap ASAP. In hindsight, that was a mistake. On my second outlap I made sure to get out of the way of anyone on their hotlap, but then ended up with a German in a Beetle in my slipstream at the start of my only flying lap. He divebombed me into turn 1 and completely compromised my only lap. I started in P17.

The start was absolute chaos, but I managed to somehow sneak through it and move up to P10 without any contact whilst everyone else lost their heads around me. Then an Italian in the Ford GT divebombed me into the turn before the sector 3 chicane and I got a penalty for it.

After qualifying, I was in a bad mood and lost my nerve. I ended up spending the next lap trying to frustrate him because it was clear that he had no intention of passing without divebombing people, which earned me another penalty. I got spun out at the hairpin at the end of sector 2 later on in the race as well, so I guess that's my karma for getting in the mud and retaliating.

Ended up finishing P15, 69 points. Not happy.

On the second attempt I managed to get a decent qualifying lap in and started P7. The start was absolute chaos again, but I slipped between the madness and was P1 into turn 2. I'd started on Hards and was having a hard time keeping people behind me over the next lap and a half, dropping down to P4. I didn't care though - I was getting the slow stint out of the way whilst keeping a good position as I had hoped for.

Then a French driver went for an insane divebomb into the sector 3 chicane. There was no way he was ever going to make the turn without cutting it completely or using someone else as brakes. This is what happened:

I'm really getting tired of this 🤬. I've been spun out in most of the races I've done recently.

The rest of the race went better at least though, finishing P6 for 126 points. Should have been higher though. :irked:. At least it was a points boost.

Had a decent finish in the Nations Cup race today, but I don't care much for the points as I don't plan on being good enough to be a top GTS driver. That said went for another go p7 and got disconnected in the last slot for the day.... 0 points? Oof that's a pretty rough penalty for a server issue if you ask me. Like I said, doesn't bother me much as I enjoy the FiA races for what they are, but how is that a thing for those genuinely competing?

Well that's the point of the single shot rule. You can't enter the next round. Yes it sucks to be the victim, but after 2-3 events of doing the same the dirty driver will get tired of seeing three big fat 0s on his leaderboard and will either have to clean up his act, or just leave the game. It's gonna be a shock to the system for the first few rounds, but hopefully in the long run the player pool will clean up considerably. Knowing PD though, player quantity>quality for them so I have almost zero expectation of seeing this implemented.

They could've tried "hardcore" format during exhibition seasons with nothing to lose, but instead they choose to play russian roulette with the penalty system and hand out retries like candies during halloween. People are literally going into the first race of the night with a throwaway mindset and using it as a gauge to see how far they can push the penalty system. Those of us still trying to race cleanly are the stupid ones for not taking advantage. Honestly, it's just a very unpleasant environment to race in.

I know what you mean, but less than 300 points is as good as zero to some.

Only 3/8 rounds count this season and 10/40 in official season, so still plenty of margin to have bad rounds if you are good enough to come up with great results when you need them.

Only had time for the last two slots today.
Race 1: Qualifying was ok, started in P9. Then I totally messed up the start. I was focused on setting up the TCS and completely ignored the "Press the brake" message. So I started off with an immediate 5 second no gas penalty and effectively started last by some margin. Was starting on hards. Was able to close up quickly though as they were fighting quite hard. Gained some positions, then went in the pits in lap 8 to get some Medium tires. Fell back but was quickly able to gain back some positions against people on hards. Finished in P11. Ended up with 166 points. Should've taken them...

Race 2: In qualifying I had the stupid kerb glitch that also @TRL LIGHTNING had at Barcelona and kie25 had at Brands Hatch the last time:

The front left bumper got stuck in the kerb which then sent me flying. You can see some forward movement at the time of impact.
You can see that impact here:
This is how the bumper is supposed to look like:
20200303231437.jpg

This is how it looked at the time of impact:
20200303231427.jpg

That caused me to start from the back. Also messed up the start AGAIN as I released the handbrake because the airplanes flying past us got me irritated. Last again. Thanks to people crashing and having penalties I was in P13 by the end of lap 1. That became P12 in lap 2.
As I already had a bad start, I thought "Hey, why not go for a two stop?" - So I pitted in lap 2 to switch to softs. That was a horrible idea in the end. I was hoping to get clean air, but I was too close to cars in front. The first clean lap I had was lap 6, where the softs were already in their fourth lap. Now I also had the problem of pitted cars overtaking me again. My highest position before my second pitstop was P11 which was almost the position I had before my first pitstop, so gained absolutely nothing considering I had to pit again and the others didn't. Plus I spun on the last lap of my first medium stint where I fell down to 16th. Lost at least 10 seconds there.
After my 2nd pitstop I got out in 17th. Only had one clean lap and then had a car in front of me coming out of the pits. AGAIN. At least I was able to gain one position against another Porsche that had penalties. At least I had a nice clean fight with PRST_Alpine in the end, although I wasn't able to overtake him. Only 112 points which are less than my 3rd best result so far. So all for nothing. Except those two races did tank my DR by about 1000 points again. I'm stuck at where I am :banghead:

Playing a bit of catch-up here, these are my weekend reports:

[Sorry, I unintentionally broke forum rules with the way I posted this first time.]

Put the kettle on, it's a long one...

This was one of those weekends where I wonder why I bothered firing up GT Sport. Well, until my last race tonight...

B/S driver in a largely B/S lobby.

On Saturday, my G29 wheel was randomly sending me to the PS4 desktop. Long story short, I'd had to dismantle it to tighten the steering column (and discovering the two screws weren't loose, they were tight in their posts which had snapped of of the main body of the base, making super glue the only possible repair!). Each race, I was 'desktopped' 8-10 times allowing cars to pass or accidentally hit me into the wall in one case. Races ruined. Dismantled and checked connections for Sunday and so far, so good.

Nations: First race was a disaster, from wheel issues and dirty driving aound me, resulting in penalties for contact caused by the other party. Qualified P16. P9 approaching the final double left but rammed by someone already with a 2s penalty. Nothing added and he is now P7! P11 for me. The P12 driver then puts me in the gravel to P18. No penalty for him despite having all 4 wheels over the white line at the corner immediately before hitting me! Someone then barges past me later, putting me off track for no penalty. P13 to P14. Shortly after, on the way to the double left, someone muscles past and receives nothing for being 4 wheels over the line. Me? I get 7 (seven) seconds for the resulting contact!!! That drops me to P18, especially when the someone mentioned above forces me off track and into the barrier. P20. No penalty for him. And that's how I finished.:banghead:

Race 2: Qualified P6 in the Toyota Hybrid TS050, up to P3 in the first 15 seconds. P2 driver misjudged the tight hairpin at the bottom of the hill. P2. Start of Lap 4, I pass up the inside into P1. Another car promptly pushes him off into the Armco and P4.

By Lap 6/18, I had over 2s lead that car, which pitted end of Lap 7. I came in the following lap, changing from S to M and down to P2. The 'desktopping' really started to take effect, and someone was on my tail by Lap 10. P1 pitted and I was in the lead again, only just. I was passed on Lap 12, having lost 2.4s in one sector thanks to my wheel issue, and I had lost a tonne of time by Lap 18.

The final indignation was to come at the hill hairpin again when I was desktopped and a reasonably innocent peron rear-ended me into the wall (although he was doing about 10mph more than the previous lap at that pont on the track). I'd lost more time in time paused by the wheel than I was behind P1, so guaranteed win was lost. P3 sounds decent until you take that into account. Wasn't going to risk the few small points haul with a further attempt.

Part 1 of 2

Manu: I found the BMW M6 an absolute pig to qualify, ending up P20 every time.

Race 1: Qualified P20, finished P20 after a game of Demolition Derby meets penalise the Innocent Party.

Race 2: Qualified P20. Lap 1, P17 after the pit hairpin. P14 seconds later. Starting Lap 2, P14. Then P15 passed on the inside of Turn 1 and I gave him maximum space but got hit by someone else who had already served a penalty on Lap1. 2 second penalty for me!

Someone then divebombed past the P17 car and rammed a previously mentioned car into me at pit hairpin. Serving the 2s put me from P15 to P18. Then, one of the most bizarre penalties I've ever had... someone squeezes up the inside of me at the pit hairpin. In the process, there is the slightest of brushes as I'm careful to avoid contact. His car doesn't even brush the wall as he rides the rumblestrip, but I get a 2 second penalty!!!! If 2 real cars had made that little contact, I doubt there'd be any evidence.🤬 P18. I repass that person for P17 but lose the place to someone else at Turn 1. He picks up 1.5s for brushing the wall. I repass at the pit hairpin but inexplicably ovesteer to the barrier on exit, with somebody tapping me into a full spin. 1.5s penalty immediately, followed by, wait for it... a further 2s for causing a car to spin!!! Except it was me spinning - the other driver heading safely up the road, albeit with an extra 2s, presumably for hitting me!:banghead: However, he was able to clear his full 3.5s straight away, whilst I had to wait a full lap, even though he'd only picked his 2s up at the same time as me. That's a programming fault IMO. P19.

Lap 5/18, someone uses that popular tactic of ramming me into the chicane before the final corner. Damage to front and rear, and to left front wheel. No penalty for him!!!🤬 P20. Pass a pitting car and another for P18. The pitted car then bullies past at the righthander before the chicane, bumping my side and causing me turn in during recovery, resulting with him having the slightest of contact with the inside wall. 4s penalty for me!!!! Nothing for him of course. A bit of early braking before the chicane makes him turn into the barrier for the 1.5s penalty he should already have had.

Someone passes me at the start of Lap 9. P19, but I repass immediately before pitting - M to S tyres. Penalty served and P20. He then rage quits or is kicked after 2x 1.5s penalties in quick succession so I move up by default. Final lap, and I repass someone serving 1.5s to finish a less-than-pleased P18.

Part 2 of 2

Now, I have a US account as well, so a I started a fresh GT Sport at the end of January to have what was largely cleaner Daily racing. Only using gift cars except for one purchase of a car needed for a race. Then I decided to try FIA races since I will never be remotely close to spoiling anyone's chances of making the Finals. Only using gift cars except for one purchase of a car needed for a race and buying those which won't be gift cars with points earned.

Again B/S rating in largely B/S lobbies.

Unwisely chose Ferrari before I discovered the Gr.4 is an uncontrolable mess. And that a decent grid position at Tokyo is a miracle.

Nations:
Not even worth posting. Penalty-fests, with me on the receiving end.

Manu:

Race 1: Door number 15. Qualified P20, started P19. Started on Mediums. Approached chicane for the first time in P15 but took too much sausage kerb exiting and hit the wall at a mere 27mph. 1.5s penalty. P18. Lost then regained a place, passing someone who had started P2:boggled: He repassed but another car spun out, so status quo maintained. Took P16 from him as he served another penalty on Lap 4. Cars pitted on Lap 5, so now P13 then another place gained on passing a penalised car. At this point, he started going for the aggressive pass at the pre-chicane corner and of course I got the 4s penalty!

Lap 6 and someone on a 2s penalty walled me at Turn 1 for the pass. No penalty. P17 after serving mine. Gained 5 places from pitters and penalised drivers on Lap 7. Aggresive passing tactics by someone went unpunished. I repassed him at the pit hairpin on Lap 8 but he promptly spun me exiting the corner. P12 and 4s for him, P16 and 5s for me, plus a further 1.5s for touching the barrier whilst recovering from the 180 degree spin!!!! My car decided to oversteer at Turn 2 on Lap 9, so further 1.5s was added for a total of 8s.🤬 P18. Just held off P19 despite him flying over sausage kerb at chicane to try to pass! Pitted on Lap 10 for Softs. P19 again., and there I stayed till the end.

Race 2: No better, in fact I was hit by at least a third of the field at one point or another, always getting the penalty! It's just as well the server disconnected us all as the reults screen came up as I would have been busy telling them what i thought of them all!

Race 3: More fustration, but qualified P8 this time. Started on M tyres. Trouble was brewing with my first encounter with someone I shall call 'Driver X' who hit me when passing. P10 but quickly up to P8 as he was partly responsible for carnage ahead.

Lap 2, Turn 1, and I have 2 cars in front. I make a brilliant move, passing between them (3 abreast) before Turn 2, but slightly brush one of them in the process. Ridiculous 1s penalty! 🤬 P7 after the penalty is served, but now in a gaggle of cars approaching the dreaded chicane... Sure enough, someone nudges me enough to put me over the sausage kerb, to be hit by the car I bushed earlier and sent into a side-by-side spin with someone else. P17🤬 Less than 2 laps completed and I'm down 9 places. Car then oversteers at pit hairpin, into apex wall at 15mph for 1.5s penalty! Driver X passes, with a 4s penalty to serve, and promptly turns in on me, ramming me into the wall, to stop me passing before the penalty line!🤬 A further 7s peanlty for him. But again, he is able to serve it all at that same point, which is plain wrong. Meanwhile I have to wait till the following lap to serve my 1.5s.

P15 on Lap 6, the driver who hit me previously there nudges me 4 times after the chicane before someone takes advantage to pass on Lap 7, with no penalty for edging me into the wall at Turn 1. The penalty system has double standards! The hitter barges past. P17. Quickly up to P13, still Lap 7 with those two in front of me and another car ahead and approaching the chicaine. One edges another into the wall, 1s and 5s respectively. The aggrieved party then rams me through the chicaine and into the wall for no penalty, whilst I am now P16/18. Driver X is right on my tail - good time to pit for S tyres!

Rejoining in P18, up to P13 by Lap 12. But Driver X is on my tail again and rams me at the chicane. No penalty for him but I am P17 with 1.5s for touching the barrier whilst regaining the track! Trying to pass a very loose driving car, he bumps me to the wall and I spin a 360. So I pit for Softs again, still in P15. Repass him to finish P14.

Race 4: Praying for decent race. Incredibly, qualified... wait for it... P2:gtpflag: Joked before the race that I'd enjoy it while it lasted!

Started on Softs. Lap 1, P3 divebombed into the hairpin chicane, fortunately missing both of us in front. Up to P1 before the chicane on Lap 2, I was able to hold off the poleman until I pitted for Medium tyres on Lap 7. Exited in P6. P3 by Lap 9. Repassed him on Lap 11 and retook the lead from the P3 starter on Lap 12 with a 9 second lead from another car. Held on to win with a lead of around 2 seconds from the P3 guy.

So it was worth perservering in the end!:gtpflag: A measly 52 points for all that heartache and effort though.:indiff: Only my 3rd best haul from the 4 rounds so far.

Tonight I will check out the new Andretti carting place that opened in town ... :gtpflag:

I'm guessing you live in San Antonio? I live in Austin and have been meaning to check that place out. Let me know how it goes! My profile picture is at K1 Speed here in town, and I try to visit karting places any time I'm in a city that has a track. I really like the K1 track in SA too.

edit: I just remembered that they also have some kind of driving simulator there too. I don't know any details about it, but I've seen pics and it looks cool.

Europe Nations

Race 1:
My mistake - choosing the Audi R8 because all the top times were set on it, despite it being a car I don't drive well! I hadn't had time to test any cars, so that's my excuse for a bad decision!

Qualified a reasonable P13, considering the above, and the fact qually (and racing) today has been more dodgems meets WWE!
Door 20, qualifying P13 and starting on Softs, I was briefly P10 at Turn one before a French Porsche nudged me over the sausage kerb. At the wide hairpin, a few of us passed a Finnish Audi which had picked up a 2s penalty. I was the last to pass, and he duly punted me into the gravel on the outside. It was a beach party at that point as a French Subaru and the Polish Alfa he'd rammed, along with out of control P1 South African Lexus and a German Aston hit by a Spanish VW all joined me there. In all, 5 of us in the boonies. Wish I'd packed some beers! A French Subaru and the aforementioned Finnish Audi alo spun on the apex. A total mess of impatient Lap 1 driving.

I rejoined in P16, almost immediately rising to P13 on passing fellow recovering vehicles. P11 and P12 had 3 and 4 second penalties respectively, so I passed them and P9 (the Finn with 7s), and and Italian Toyota (4s) with ease to P9. But the Toyota got back in front.
I was then rear-ended twice through the final chicane by an Italian Mustang which got by as a result, and got the same treatment from the following Czech Mercedes (3 times!), who I kept at bay. The Spanish Beetle then divebombed diagonally between us at Turn 1, Lap 2, and my efforts to reduce the resulting contact allowed the Czech to pass as well. Down to P13, with a 1s penalty for the Beetle still hitting me! I should say 'unbelievable' but that's how the penalty system is (not) working right now. Back past the Mercedes and onto the tail of the Beetle, I overcooked it in my urgency to get past before the penalty zone and I was in the gravel again. P19, with only the Poleman behind me. He quit on Lap 3. After the Finn spun, I climbed to the giddy heights of P18 and pitted on Lap 4 for Hards from P17 (of 19), retaining that place.

It was a lonely chase, with my first on-track overtake before the chicane at the end of Lap 7. P15 became P13 on Lap 11, and I pitted again for Softs as the Hards were losing grip. Just retained P13, despite the French Audi repeatedly banging into me through Turn 1. The Italian Toyota made a dumb effort to put the German Porsche into the wall on the finish line, despite having a 1.5s penalty and I was awarded P12 because he hadn't used both tyres. 29 points earned.

Race 2: I qualified P12 and finished P6 for 33 points, still with a lot of liberty-taking around me. Took that as the best I'd probably get as later races tend to get even more physical if anything.

N America

Race 1: One and done. Took the Subaru WRX out for spin and put it in P7 on the grid, 1.049 off pole position. Started on Mediums as I had the opportunity to make up places from the start.
3 cars jumped the start and I was P4 for a split second before the P8 Canadian Audi dived up the grass on the pitwall, hit and smashed the stationary P3 car in to the side of me!! I was P17. having lost 13 places in 6 seconds, just 12 seconds since lights out. The expected bumper car behaviour allowed me up to P11 after the first minute of the race, and I was back up to P7 as I crossed the line for the first time.
Lap 3, and I was P5, hassling the back of a Beetle and the Aston in front of it. The Beetle cut a corner (0.5s penalty) and I was past, reasonably safe in the knowledge he'd have to clear that next lap. The Aston went wide at the start of the final chicane, so I'd made it to P3 as he overshot his recovery (0.5s) and into the rumble strips.

Pitting for Mediums on Lap 5, I came back out in P5 and passed a spinning Ferrari which looked to have cooked its tyres. The Beetle pitted and I began Lap 7 in P3. P1 and P2 were out of sight at this point, but by Lap 8, I'd cut the 8+s gap to the P2 Audi to 2s, and I could see he was struggling for grip. All the same, he was just able to stay ahead to the point, on Lap 9, I decided my best bet was to dive in for fresh Mediums as I had more than the necessary 9 second gap to P4 and could hopefully still catch P2 in the remaining 5 laps. I was catching back up at a rate of knots and took P2 at the left-hand hairpin 45 seconds into lap 13. 7 minutes to make up a gap of over 9 seconds.

It was galling to discover that the winning Atenza crossed the line 20.961 seconds ahead of me but hadn't used the Hard tyres. So I lost the win by under a second. If I hadn't been punted off at the start line...
Surely failing to use required tyres should result in a DNF? It's not like a penalty for overshooting a turn, it's a choice (unless you've been too daft to remember to check what you had to do). I certainly felt robbed of the win, or at least the chance to compete for it, as he'd started in P5. Worse still, he was the one who nudged the car into the path of the Cnandian who spun it into me, and so more than a little to blame for me losing 13 places and 5 seconds at the startline...

Still, up 5 places, clean race and 63 points, 2nd best haul for the season.

I had a disappointing race, even though I managed to get a pole position and win with a good margin.

It was a fairly low ranking race with S SR across the board, so I expected it to be more straightforward

Here's a little excerpt of the race and its challenges:

In practice for tomorrow's Manufacturer's race, I think I finally figured out the game's "logic" (term used VERY loosely) in issuing contact penalties:

-If you get rear-ended squarely in the bumper and spin or go off track, the punter gets a penalty
-The car on the outside of the turn is ALWAYS at fault for contact, it doesn't matter if it's light paint-swapping that doesn't affect either car, or if the car inside sends it and hits you off track; if you're on the outside of the turn, it's YOUR fault according to the game (usually to the tune of a 2s penalty).

Thank goodness the guys at PD aren't in charge of traffic laws. You'd be found at fault for getting rear-ended at a red light...

I find it quite damning that PD uses real people at their live events for penalties.
That tells me, they don't trust their system

Jeez, tough night! Lester in one race, Deafsun in the next. @Deafsun Qualified 1s ahead of P2 and finished 19s ahead of P2, and he 2 stopped!

I finished a little better in this one but it wasn’t as much fun as the first one. I did get front row seats to a revenge punt on lap 13 though, along with 2 free positions. :D The guy that got punted seemed to be a bit rammy with some of the guys ahead, I think that why he was sent to the shadow realm.

Well now, it finally happened, I got into a top split. Luckily I didn’t embarrass myself either  , I even got to have a pretty sweet battle near the end with @vvise . Great Race man, that was a lot of fun!

Amazing how the points system has improved, and yet is still very inconsistent.

It’s ridiculous that you only scored 123pts for a decent run in the top split while I got 164pts for a lower split in which you’d probably just breeze past everyone.

Even worse that you still got 30pts less for an even better top split race. Jeez

It’s all good, getting a chance to race with these guys is worth way more than any points available. :)

I’m in Frisco just north of Dallas.
The place is nice and the track is on several levels so you get a lot of track to drive and it feels fast. 7min for $25 Then they have various arcade games, laser tag and VR games.

Tests from tonight on Alfa 4C with DS4. All times take into account any miscues while racing.

Was great fun, see you out there next time. When we came out of the 2nd consecutive corner side by side I said out loud "now this is pod racing" That race was literally my first laps driving the Mazda. I got a 4s penalty for getting hit with a dive on the first lap and got sent off the track by the sausage in the final chicane on the 2nd lap. I was going to switch cars but @SpecMiata-JSW made me a livery so I went again in the slot after. Much better result!

Timestamped. Not huge points but it was fun.

PS. Mazda is OP if you like to send it down the inside under braking. Has insane stopping power. I had some great late lunges vs Applepop in the 2nd race.
PPS. See you all at Monza.

Bah....just did a manufacturers race and finished 6th, 180 points. Could have done better but had a couple of silly mistakes. Hitting the wall on the last corner hence a penalty being one. Hit the wall, lose more than a second down the straight.....here have another 1 sec. lol

Anyway came back well. The race itself was really really good. Lots of close clean racing everywhere and quality overtakes.

Sort of want to go again but happy with those points. I stuffed the first race of the season up so need to bank some.

Oh....managed to snatch 6th from this poor blokes grasp. :)

Three tips for Manu race:
1. Stay in draft and fuel save (most cars should be able to avoid refuelling with short shifting)
2. Medium tyres and 2 stop strategy are useless
3. Undercut is very powerful here if you get stuck in traffic during first stint

Shocker quali (you guessed it - didn't get a draft), but went from 13th to 3rd in the Citroen with patient strategic driving and insanely lucky traffic situation around my pitstop. Very clean race with everyone behaving and a handsome 200 points reward :D Faith in humanity restored 👍

I know what you mean, but less than 300 points is as good as zero to some.

Only 3/8 rounds count this season and 10/40 in official season, so still plenty of margin to have bad rounds if you are good enough to come up with great results when you need them.

Well yes exactly. The original rationale for only taking a subset of the race results is to account for these kind of unpredictable things. Disconnects, big crashes, bad car/track combos and missing races for whatever reason (school/work/life/etc). 75% discarded results is extremely lenient in my view. Imagine if Lewis Hamilton only needs to win a quarter of all races last season - he would've wrapped up the title in June

Qualified 10th and finished 3rd! Did a Softs 10/9/9 strategy and short shifting first half of race to save fuel. Was in 2nd with 2 laps to go but couldn’t stop a Mustang catching and passing me. Had a Porsche right on my bumper with 3 corners to go but he ran out of fuel  Leader won by a massive 20 seconds in an Evo!

Was a nice change to have a good close race of clean driving and no silly penalties!
