If people want to exact revenge, especially over a long period of time, it just shows how sad and childish humanity is. It is a bit like assuming guilt until innocence is proven.
I identify the mistakes I make, and try to learn from them.

I’m glad that wasn’t me. I would chase you down and punt you.

That was horribly wrong. You should have pulled over and give his/her position back. I’ve pulled to the side and waited on people that I accidentally punted. If you didn’t wait, that means you know what you did and you should receive the same treatment. This is not Grand Theft Auto 5 racing, its GTS. People take FIA seriously.

Hope the group 1 race was fun.

Here is my race from the Dragon Trail Gardens gr4. I got to S SR rating, Got to a B in my DR but have dropped to a D now. I have only been on Gtsport for 2 weeks now. I never intend to drive dirty or get revenge or anything but I can't control my poor driving sometimes. I never apologise, when it comes to racing, because I never do anything intentionally

Holy ****balls. I mean... holy... actual ****balls.

Every single one of those contacts looks totally deliberate. That first one at the hairpin, where you jumped onto the throttle before the car was even close to pointing down the track and just ploughed into the side of the Mustang was incredible - odd that you didn't do the same thing any other time at that corner. Then when you hit the Corvette it looked exactly like you shortcut the track on purpose just so you could hit him effectively. And that late brake to bunt the Mustang (again) into the barriers at the final corner was just a peach. I am incredibly unsurprised that the Mustang sought revenge - and you're at S for Sportsmanship? Really?

What's with the weird excessive downshifting?

Yes, as @Ashthebash kindly put it, I made the most of my chances in the TS050 tonight. :D

Joined him and @T_revisio for the 17:00; another near one-make lobby save for a solitary '16 R18. Elected to pit for new Softs early into qualifying after encountering heavy traffic and a bombastic Dutch driver at Rauch. Held for several seconds so I could get as much of a clear run as possible, which paid off as I hammered in two consecutive 1:16.2s. Fastest was the first at 1:16.257, despite going too deep under braking at Remus. Good enough to start 3rd on the grid, but I have to wonder how things would have turned out if I approached Remus a little differently...

Started on Softs for obvious reasons, but initially conceded the place to a Sonic-liveried Brit between Rauch and Wurth. Didn't want to push the TS050 too hard, but held up to pressure from an Italian and caught up with 2nd (another Italian) and 3rd (Sonic) until the former picked up a penalty. Pitted for Mediums on Lap 7, jumped Sonic into 2nd. Lost 2nd on Lap 10 after going a wee too wide at the exit of Niki Lauda Kurve and receiving a 0.5 second slowdown; I wasn't too concerned at that point as Sonic and I were still at least three-and-a-half seconds clear of the German in 4th. Things from that point on were fairly processional up until after I took on Hards on Lap 15.

5th and 6th-placed Germans were flying up the road on softer compounds; by Lap 17, I was happy to let the first one go through Rauch. On Lap 18, the second makes a last-minute dive up my inside - again through Rauch - resulting in light contact as he understeers away from the apex. We carry on, and after witnessing the second German nearly lose it on the exit of Schlossgold, I almost pass him. Had the inside through Rauch, but clipped the grass on the apex and had to back out so we could make it through without contact. Either way, the first German swaps Mediums for Hards on the final lap, and the road is clear for me to finish 4th.

Or is it?

At Remus, the second German, struggling even more on his worn Softs, picks up a penalty for going over the run-off on exit. He slithers his way to Ridnt, drifting onto the astroturf before the final corner. I close in and take the apex at Red Bull Mobile. Side-by-side, we cross the finish line just under 65 hundredths apart... and I jump up to 3rd! Couldn't see it from my bumper cam, but as we drew alongside, the German received a second penalty for the excursion at Ridnt; a cruel late twist to his charge from 16th!

Considering how difficult most of my earlier 2020 season races turned out to be, I will happily take 247 points and leave it at that. Well done to T_revisio (5th) and Ash (8th) for reaching the top 10, too! Should also add that the German driver who dived past me at Rauch apologised for his move; he explained afterwards that the rear of his Toyota had been loose for the whole distance. Not to worry, though... it's great to be back at the sharp end.

Just because you didn’t mess up or mess someone else up one purpose, doesn’t mean it wasn’t your fault, an apology goes a loooong way to not having that person run you off the track in the next race your in with them. Don’t be so ignorant man, be a man, admit your mistakes, apologize for them and more importantly, Learn from them.

Maybe also "identify" the mistake for the person who was screwed over by it and likely has no idea he was raced in such a way. Typically apologizing identifies and explains it fairly simply.

If you ruin someones race, even by accident, you are the guilty party.

It’s a small community if you play this game enough. Even within a single race you will encounter the same driver more than once. Pass them clean the first time, and when they are on worn tires or a different strategy they’ll be more inclined to let you by as to not slow the both of you down. Make a rough or questionable pass and they’ll be less inclined...multiply that out times hundreds of hours playing and there will be drivers on the track that know you, and know whether you play fair or not. Call it revenge, call it eye for an eye, but you are crafting your own race environment with your etiquette or lack thereof.

Not sure if a pass was clean and fair? Go back and watch it from their POV. Relive the moment from their wheel. Adjust future pass attempts based on insights gained. This applies whether you are the passer or the passee. Before getting angry at someone, check the replay and you might find the driver was bumped into you by someone else.

Exactly. People tend to remember courtesy given and usually return back when necessary.

Perspective is everything. You may be having fun, but shunting people through your own mistakes and then ignoring the person you've faulted is not going to leave them having any fun. Someone who refuses to apologize probably shouldn't be discussing the problems of humanity.

What difference does it make if it's online? You do realize it is other people you are messing up, not computers, right?

No one is telling you to not race online. We're saying don't be rude to others who are alsp trying to have fun online.

I have to say I agree with every response above. I'm very much not a member of any 'old boys club' on here - in fact, I got a week's ban on this thread early on in posting here by overstepping the mark (I may not have entirely agreed about it, but I accepted it once I knew the boundaries, as well as clarifying the manner in which I'd posted). But that demonstrates the need to follow the etiquette of whatever you're doing, whether posting here, racing online or doing something in real life.

Sometimes I apologise after a race (if I've done something unfair, albeit unintentionally), sometimes not (if it was a result of something 'unwise' the other party has done), but quitting at the end of a race without apologising in chat for something which adversely affected another driver unfairly will be remembered. I have a long list in my head of offenders and will cut them less slack for transgressions in future races.

It's nice to be remembered - for nice reasons.👍

They seem to indicate that they're new to this game, so their behavior (inconsistent lines and braking, not adjusting driving behavior to account for cars around them, excessive downshifting, etc.) could be explained as just getting to terms with the game. I totally believe them when they say they didn't do any of that on purpose. That being said, they definitely do owe some apologies for all that contact, and should probably just practice racing the AI cleanly (or at least limiting themselves to player lobbies and staying out of Sport Mode until they get a bit more practice).

Its only 15 laps, so you should be able to do 7 laps on soft and 7 on medium and only one on Hard. @Mistah_MCA is doing a great guide with strategy on Youtube. The key is a minimum amount of laps on the hard tires.

could you perhaps start with hards and then pit at the end of lap one? will the game allow it?

(Lurker, relatively new player, apologies for appearing out of nowhere)

Just thought I'd share my experiences. C/S lobby, TS050. My first race I qualified on Hards (11th) and got hammered off at the first corner. Got my head down and got up to 7th by the end after a few tyre penalties, but mostly just taking everyone thinking they could long-stint softs. Patience, not being afraid to throttle off to charge up the Hybrid (honestly as a big fan of Formula E I -love- this aspect of strategy as much as I love the Group Cs) and taking people when I can, and at the pitstops. But I noticed the top two, in an R18 and a Mazda VGT, had both incurred tyre penalties but had remained 1st and 2nd. In the post-race chat I asked if they simply ran Soft-Soft-Soft and they said yes.

So I thought nothing ventured, nothing gained. Starting fifth, I was in a lobby with a crazy fast Turk who was way ahead of everyone else and a very quick Portuguese driver, both in Toyotas on the front grid. The Portuguese driver spun off early on and left me to get past the Spaniard and the Italian who were ahead of me (very clean and respectful, which I was quick to say thanks for.

Into the pits Lap 6 for new Softs, I think I probably scared the Italian and Spaniard who dived in for Mediums the next lap. Then it was just simply trying to rattle off qualifying lap after qualifying lap. Middle stint I began to make up time on the Turk but only briefly before he put the hammer down and really showed me my place. By Lap 13 I had built up a 15 second lead on 3rd and 4th, dropped to about 8 seconds when I left the pit. It was time to see if I was good enough to pull twenty seconds out.

Short answer, I wasn't. I was seventeen seconds up the road across the line. By all rights I deserved to be fourth but it looked like the Italian had gone Medium three times, and he got a tyre penalty too. First podium in an FIA race (though I came close at Fuji in the Gr3s for Manufacturers) and probably the most absolutely thrilled I've been since playing this game. I picked up Wreckfest to sate the part of me that likes just having fun with cars and not caring about them but nothing is quite as good as knowing you just raced fast, clean and technical. Admittedly I maybe bent the rules just a -little- by not doing a 'proper' strategy and I'm nowhere near your skill level but I thought I'd share my little piece of GT Sport victory, and maybe open up the triple-soft option to those interested.

Thanks to all the peoples' advice on here I've been drawing on sneakily. Hope you all have as good a time as I did.

And therein lies a big problem with GT Sport (and most driving games) - nothing stops you getting right in there with cars you can't handle properly. And I don't speak with any sense of being an expert driver, that's for sure! GT Sport lacks a progression system where you have to qualify to race more powerful or hard to control cars, so self-control is required whilst learning. That's what offline racing or beginner level lobbies ought to be used for.

I've been playing Gran Turismo since the 3rd iteration, and still when I bought this game, I didn't race online until I'd done all the Driving Challenge (or whatever they're called) levels and gotten gold in all of them (it only took a day or 2), just so I could get used to the different physics.

Oh, this is unbelievable! I just managed to start my final hotlap with 1s on the clock after fuel burning, went from P16 to P13 at the line and the game has frozen as soon as the FIA fanfare begins!!!:banghead:🤬🤬🤬

2 race starts lost tonight!👎

I'd just got back up to B/S after battling through several dirty Daily Race Cs, so this had better not lose me points!

feel sorry for you. almost looks like the server problems we had in Europe a few races ago shifted to your area. I Recently qualified second in Willow Springs when the game froze and same issue again in Autopolis. Hope you will get another chance today! good luck!!!

might be an option then. ..only 1 lap of mayhem and then relative peace?
I am on duty till 2200 hrs tomorrow, expect to be home around 2230 so only got 1 chance at Laguna Seca. fingers crossed!!!
thanks for your reply

No worries, happy to help. I would only start on Hards if you’re starting near the back though. Welcome to GT Planet and Good Luck in your race tomorrow.

Quite unfamiliar ground for me this evening shows how much I rarely use these machines but by damn they're addictive and pleasant to drive.

TS050 for me tonight, Lovely sound too.

Race 1 for me was at 7:40, Qualified P12, Fairly low down because I fuel burned too long and didn't get a second lap in! Made my way up to P6 rather unscaved... Started on Medium's Pit on Lap 11 for Hards & Cruised to a fairly lonely 6th.

Race 2 for me was at 09:00, Qualified an awful P17... Did the same thing as above but scuffed my banker lap and 2nd Lap I got in was screwed as I got a bit greedy on the red stuff & Got Half Sec Penalty which screwed me for the second lap. Gained nearly 12 Places on the first couple laps really nice to start near the back with no pressure. Went for a different approach & Started on Soft's this time. Pitted Lap 8 for Mediums, & Then again on Lap 16 for Hard's for the remainder. I got up to 3rd in the end but dropped back down to 6th as the guys in front had Soft's on. Proud considering I started at the back!

Interesting mix of Strategy's tonight still can't decide which one's the better route to go down...

Thanks. I am actually in Europe (well, I am, even if my country isn't anymore:rolleyes:). My second account is USA. One last chance tonight but it means missing out on the first NA slot which is normally the cleanest.

Heard 1-stop is 7s slower for Red Bull race.

Seems most people in top split that I saw went 8 RM / 10 RS / 2 RH (or 11 RS / 1 RH).

EDIT - just did a practice race by myself. For reference, FL was 17.7 and lap 15-18 was high 118. Dropped to mid 119 for last two laps. I did 8 RM / 2 RH / 10 RS.

TCS 1 / BB 3 to rear.
