Maybe, maybe not. Being last-split sub-trash on a good day doesn't help, and stupid screwball gimmicks don't help the motivation to get involved.

There's one more race tonight, I will not be beaten by the system, that's what the other 19 drivers are for.

If you lack motivation and only get upset then just don't play. Take a break. It's as simple as that. Gaming is there for fun. If you don't have fun doing it there's no point in sticking with it.

Also... slipstream in qualifying is still absolutely essential, despite the update.

This. A bit disappointed to be honest. The effect is not as strong as it used to be and you have to be a lot closer to the car in front but still worth a few tenths easy.

The problem is, in anything but top split with a wider spread of driver skills it's a huge risk trying to stick that closely to someone for a whole lap. If they mess up somewhere, it's game over. They should just turn off any slipstream/dirty air effect for quali at this point, or have single car on track alone.

Also I find it a bit weird that they turned off fuel, but still kept tyre wear. Would've preferred both off.

Ok, jumped into the FIA racing for the first time tonight. After some testing earlier in the day, went with Porsche as I am very comfortable all-around with the Gr3 RSR, though have never been as happy in the Gr4 ClubSPORT Cayman. Without reading up, went with the 1H/8M/5S strategy (learnt from Race C at Brands Hatch a couple of months ago), after qualifying 8th- even when held up by some dummy cruising on racing line , for half of hot lap. But the race strategy is great- everyone is on cold tires first lap anyway, I actually gained a spot before ducking to pits. Then a pretty clean race, strategy effectiveness hindered for a bit by a slow as hell SLS, but it wouldn’t have made the difference as I was 20sec behind the winner at the end. Lucky for me, with podium all but wrapped up, second place guy mistakenly put on wrong tires and had to pit again with a lap to go, handing me second place. Great fun — and I really like the FIA race format.

one thing: entered the race with H tires fitted, but on qualifying session I simply pitted after the out lap, fit the S tires, then put in my qualifying lap. Then started with the H tires that I “entered” the race on, worked out just fine.

So starting on hards would have gained me 10 positions (P15 to P5) had I not binned T1 from never practicing it.

Slightly tempted to NOT lay down a qual time just and start P20 just for that strategy.

no, do qualify, on softs... the first lap everyone is on cold tires so it’s quite easy to hold station on the Hards, and you get the benefit of the strategy. You’ll exit pit in traffic if you qualify in top half of grid, but some on hard tires anyway makes it easy to pass on your fresh mediums when they are at temperature.

It's there, you missed it.
The info box is there, but it still just says "Racing H M S".

That's still doesn't say anything for someone who hasn't dealt with this before. There is something there, but that's not helpful. 7 of the 17 in this race were penalized.

W-T-F!!!!

Door 20, qualified 16th, finished 8th, and after crossing the line this... no points, no DR. Why do I bother. And there isn’t another race tonight so eff that! I played the strategy perfect and executed flawlessly. Started on hards, avoided the carnage, switched to mediums right away, had a Lambo pull me around the track for two laps, at the end of lap 6 I switched to softs, probably should have waited one more lap but I slowly moved up the ranks without battling anyone. Last 3 laps I lost a position because I just couldn’t hold the Esses anymore, but it was basically a perfect race in the Atenza.

Instead...

I lost 2,000 DR points because of a disconnect. My connection is ways full bars, i’m hard wired in, this never happens.

Yet it was still there. If you didn't read all the regs, how can you even form a strategy?
I did read them.

It does not say in writing "You must use all compounds."

My default strategy is start on hardest compounds and try to make distance.

Regardless, I'm done.

I ultimately did set a Q time and started P14. Went 1RH-6 RM-7RS. Essentially had no one in front of behind me to worry about until L9 I believe. Only real traffic I experienced was the final 3 laps. Ended up P10... could have had P9 but got a 1s pen L13 that set me back from trying to avoid a rammer.

It was like racing by myself for the majority of the race. Quite lovely to be honest.

Some way, somehow I got my first legit FIA win. Was in 1st with a 4 second lead early in the race only to slip up and fall back to 2nd behind an SLS. Pitted with the SLS on lap 7 and came out in front of him (he must have took on fuel). Ran the hards for 1 lap and switched to the mediums. Waited for others to pit and held on by a narrow margin to a WRX.

Was definitely sweaty palm driving and was using the pit stops to wipe off the sweat. :D

Why isn't that on the front of the entry! How the 🤬 is someone who doesn't do this constantly going to know you have to use all compounds! And why are there no mandatory stops if this is the case!

This was another monumental waste of time. Go 🤬 figure.

I bet that happened to almost everybody once.

Totally would have happened to me if hadn’t seen it happen to someone else on a stream.

Sucks, but now you know.

I was pretty much dead on my feet earlier, so elected to hold off on Manufacturers until now.

I'm fairly confident in the Corvette, but I have no idea where I'll be in my lobby. Excited to see though!

Seeded 14th, qualified fourth and finished sixth!

I was slightly annoyed with myself as I could have got a podium without accidentally over-fuelling on the last stop, but it was a satisfying start to the season overall.

I just checked the standings, and I'm the top driver for Chevy in North America despite only being 174th overall in North America with only 144 points.

I knew Suzuka wouldn't be the best showing for the Corvette, but I was expecting at least a few people to get more out of it than I did. I'm going to assume this is also at least partially due to some of the faster drivers not participating at all in Round 1.

The last 2 FIA Races i have done, have been clean and exciting, absolutely fantastic races.
And don't blame the game, blame the players please.

Well, congrats. You were lucky to find yourself among players who behaved well despite the catastrophic penalty system.
And you were lucky enough not to get brake checked and slapped with a 4 second penalty.

You can argue all you want but fact is that the penalty system is more broken today than it was at launch.

As such, getting a clean race is mostly down to luck. I find that to be a total waste of time.

Qualified 12th in Manu in the 6pm race, then got punted around on lap 2 exiting the hairpin and got disconnected just as I was lapping at a frontrunning pace. I had a TOCA race from 7pm to 9:30 and I couldn't be arsed to submit myself to the 11:20pm race.

Luck, and not driving the qualifying line in a race.

That’s just a poor attempt at negating my criticism. I never drive the quali line in races.
I was aggressively brake checked and rammed off track, for which I received a 4 second penalty for the brake check and a 2 second penalty for pushing a car off track (I was the only one going off).

Defend the game all you want. It is fundamentally broken.

So I went back to Nissan and that means I can pretty much ignore Group 4 races as a whole. Case in point:

Only chance with this car is get a good slipstream lap because unfortunately, this is still very much a thing. Naturally, when I tried, car ahead struggled and bailed out so I pretty much got the same time as doing it solo. Might as well say what I said in another thread. Whenever I see qualifying results nowadays, I cannot see them as credible anymore. The most disappointing part is how little fuss people are making when it was such a hot button topic before. Sorry, but this is still unacceptable to me.

Thanks to the work of many people, we did compile as many top drivers affiliated with each Manufacturer for every region so far. It's still incomplete because I'm sure we'll have more appear next round, especially if Suzuka was a poor round for a particular Manu.
