Rookie question: can you change which of your contract manufacturer’s cars you drive? Or if you pick the Z4 Gr3 car as a BMW driver, are you stuck with it or can you drive the M6 too?
You're stuck with the car you chose.

When committing to an overtake on the inside, I see two options:
1. If by the end of the braking zone you are not mostly alongside, you are supposed to yield.
2. If you are alongside, the other driver must give you space, just like you must be prepared to give the defending car space. That means being able to turn in narrow so the other car has space on the outside. Which is super hard to do on that sharp Barcelona left hander.
With great awareness, in some cases the defending car could let the attacker run wide and do a cut back, but in your last example it was impossible to do, so you are basically "blocking" the exit.
In F1 for example, in those cases (defense cut back) most of the time it looks like the attacker out-braked himself. Since F1 drivers are amazing they can make those cut backs work, "canceling" the attackers mistake. I mean when the attacker steams past the apex.
When he judges it perfectly (thinking Verstappen VS Leclerc in Red Bull Ring 2019)... Then it's super tricky. Personally I consider this to be secret option 3: the defending car should yield since "he's got you, son".
Yes, I agree.Jmo but that represents the incorrect way to attempt to overtake on inside.
Nothing the outside car did forces the inside car anywhere.
The inside car made the mistake there. It’s shown that way as an example of exactly what not to do in the book.
For sure... Even at the highest level of F1 they can't help themselves sometimesHey, thanks for taking the time to explain all this. I'll keep this in mind, especially Point No.1, being side by side by the end of the braking zone as an indication of whether to yield or not. I'm getting a better sense of what's decent behaviour, and respecting the space of the defending car. Granted, I've been on the receiving end of braking zone punts many times over. But that's not an excuse not to play fair. I do admit, I'm becoming more self-aware of my late braking and borderline divebombing tendencies, and I'll try my best to shake the habit. But sometimes when you see even a hint of a gap...the temptation is strong...

I can’t decide which car to use for Nations on Tuesday? Stratos is faster, TC is safer.

My brain (and name) say Roadster, but for some reason my heart wants to drive an MR car like the Lancia or Dino. Decisions....decisions...
It seems to be quite a lot faster though right? The Lancia actually isn’t too bad in N100, but once it starts to slide, there’s no saving it lol. Might not be great in bumper car battles.![]()
The T1 Bus is unusable (suprise!)

I got two SR downs leaving the pits after changing only tires. Went in and came out all by myself without incident. Smh**** me, PD. I hope somebody from your company reads this thread. The amount of penalties and SR down arrows I've received today for other people punting me, running me off the track or swerving back onto the track and hitting me is absolutely ****ing ridiculous.
I broke a controller today. My PS4 is probably next.
Thank you. I'll pick the WRX because of the livery.I drove for Mitsu in the official season last year. Strengths: braking & stability, maybe fuel saving. Weakness: straight line speed (read: you will get passed even if you're in draft), front tyre wear (though with the braking stability, you can move BB +5 and still have no issues).
They can be quite good in technical tracks with stop/start corners and not a lot of straights (e.g. Catalunya, Autopolis), but unless you're alien tier you're gonna be midfield at best and constantly at the back at worst. If you qualify high enough you can just about hang on, but if you start at the back it's very hard to make any progress because as soon as you pull out of the draft, it's like hitting a brick wall and you can't get the overlap needed to overtake unless you divebomb it.
The tracks this season are all quite biased towards high speed unfortunately. If you want to be competitive in a mother chassis car, you're better off going with the Atenza or Beetle. But if you're not concerned about points and just wanna have fun, just go for it. It's cool being the only manu representative in the room and overachieving in an underdog car
Dinos are leading the leaderboard here. Roadster is probably too slow on the main straight which is much longer than at Laguna last season. Stratos is similar speed wise to Dino but the extra twitchiness probably isn't worth as much laptime here as in Laguna.
Exactly why I asked. I have a friend who is new to the game and also has lots of real experience, and he’s suffering with the Z4. It’s a pity you can’t at least swap for the M6 but I suppose it’s a competitive issue if not all manufacturers offer more than one.Yep, you're stuck. I'm unfortunately married to the Z4.
I wanted to try something different and I regret it now. It looks cool, but it's a slowpoke. I think the Z4 and the RCZ are the slowest straight line cars in Gr3. The Z4 is slow, but it still looks good and has a mean 2nd gear. Maybe it'll be good at Sardegna?

Agreed but for different reasons. If you lay at night contemplating how serious you want to take this FIA series because one race you barely breathed on the rear bumper of another, or even touched the rear bumper with something soft like a pillow or a teddy bear and you get a one second penalty and another race you're working with someone through the field and since they have better straight line but you're better in the corners the person behind helps you by bump drafting down the straight and YOU (the car getting the bump draft) gets the one second penalty!?
Like no car should get ANY penalty for bump drafting (unless it's open wheel cars or maybe LMP cars because they would never work in real) life!!! I think I'm just going to do races I think I have a good shot in going forward and just say screw this game and it's constantly penalty system failures
-end rant-
You can change your manufacturer and cars after coming of Mazda RX-VISION on May 22.Rookie question: can you change which of your contract manufacturer’s cars you drive? Or if you pick the Z4 Gr3 car as a BMW driver, are you stuck with it or can you drive the M6 too?
You do lose all of your points to then if your manufacturer was not previously also Mazda. You can change your manufacturer and cars after coming of Mazda RX-VISION on May 22.

Yeah I just had a practice race after coming to the exact same conclusion: Stratos seems faster but as someone mentioned post race it’s you win or you crash with that one! The winner was in a Stratos but many Lancia drivers binned it. And apparently the Mazda is too slow, sitting duck down the straights.Seeing as the Stratos is dominating the Free Practice leaderboard in Asia for tomorrow's Nations race, I gave it a go. I didn't even get through 3 corners to know that it would be a gargantuan struggle to hold it together and keep it out of the barriers for a whole lap, let alone an entire race. The combination of mid-engine weight distribution, microscopic wheelbase and CS tyres make it a knife edge to drive...I doubt I have the mental capacity to keep it on the tarmac AND share the track with other racers.
So like the virtual baller I am, I dropped half a million on a Dino, ruined its classic lines with a gaudy livery and hit the track. Wow...this thing is a blast to throw around! Pitching it into corners and managing the weight transfer on the brakes with a hint of a drift is sublime when you get it right. The CS tyres are a challenge, but being on the edge of adhesion with a touch of countersteer in almost every corner is exhilarating. I bumped brake balance to -1 to make putting weight on the front mid-corner more manageable. So far, I'm only getting 1:53, still got some improving to do. With 15x tyre wear during the race, slinging this classic around with other racers will certainly be...interesting. I do hope to see some variety of metal on the grid on race day.

I tried the Mazda TC first, and even that thing tried to spin out when I pitched it into the corners. I don't understand why it's suddenly more oversteery than all the other times I've driven it. I don't have the Stratos, but to my surprise, I actually did have the Dino, so I took it for a drive too, and it's so hard to keep it pointed straight coming out of the corners. No gas = typical MR lift-off oversteer, some gas = infinite wheel spin as you try to get a halfway decent exit. If I decide to race tomorrow, I'll probably be one of the cowards in the Mazda TCSeeing as the Stratos is dominating the Free Practice leaderboard in Asia for tomorrow's Nations race, I gave it a go.
