When committing to an overtake on the inside, I see two options:
1. If by the end of the braking zone you are not mostly alongside, you are supposed to yield.
2. If you are alongside, the other driver must give you space, just like you must be prepared to give the defending car space. That means being able to turn in narrow so the other car has space on the outside. Which is super hard to do on that sharp Barcelona left hander.

With great awareness, in some cases the defending car could let the attacker run wide and do a cut back, but in your last example it was impossible to do, so you are basically "blocking" the exit.
In F1 for example, in those cases (defense cut back) most of the time it looks like the attacker out-braked himself. Since F1 drivers are amazing they can make those cut backs work, "canceling" the attackers mistake. I mean when the attacker steams past the apex.
When he judges it perfectly (thinking Verstappen VS Leclerc in Red Bull Ring 2019)... Then it's super tricky. Personally I consider this to be secret option 3: the defending car should yield since "he's got you, son".

Hey, thanks for taking the time to explain all this. I'll keep this in mind, especially Point No.1, being side by side by the end of the braking zone as an indication of whether to yield or not. I'm getting a better sense of what's decent behaviour, and respecting the space of the defending car. Granted, I've been on the receiving end of braking zone punts many times over. But that's not an excuse not to play fair. I do admit, I'm becoming more self-aware of my late braking and borderline divebombing tendencies, and I'll try my best to shake the habit. But sometimes when you see even a hint of a gap...the temptation is strong...

Jmo but that represents the incorrect way to attempt to overtake on inside.
Nothing the outside car did forces the inside car anywhere.
The inside car made the mistake there. It’s shown that way as an example of exactly what not to do in the book.
Yes, I agree.
I wrote this post to try and illustrate "things that make you look good", and to discuss.

For sure... Even at the highest level of F1 they can't help themselves sometimes :D.

Rookie question: can you change which of your contract manufacturer’s cars you drive? Or if you pick the Z4 Gr3 car as a BMW driver, are you stuck with it or can you drive the M6 too?

Yep, you're stuck. I'm unfortunately married to the Z4.

I wanted to try something different and I regret it now. It looks cool, but it's a slowpoke. I think the Z4 and the RCZ are the slowest straight line cars in Gr3. The Z4 is slow, but it still looks good and has a mean 2nd gear. Maybe it'll be good at Sardegna?

Thanks for your suggestions, I tried a few cars in Sardagena.

The T1 Bus is unusable (suprise!), the Dino a beauty to drive, Silvia and SF-R are too slow, GT86 GRMN is decent, the Mazda boring but fast and the Stratos is fast but never drives the same line twice.

So I have choosen the Mazda, as I was able to make a 1.51 and left me with the feeling it maybe more gentle to his tires than the Dino or Stratos.

The Lancia actually isn’t too bad in N100, but once it starts to slide, there’s no saving it lol. Might not be great in bumper car battles.
It seems to be quite a lot faster though right?
That being said, a single trip in the sand costs 10s. It slows those N100 cars to a crawl! So the Roadster might be worth it. It is SO planted in comparison.

I might practice in both and see what happens after the first race, it should be a fun one!

Haha, I tried it too, "Fourth gear specialist" at 133kph.

Have you tried the Dino? It's a bit like the Lancia but a lot more predictable in its handling. And it's possible to control the odd slide, though will cost a load of time.

Actually haven't tried the TC yet as I had so much fun with the Dino

**** me, PD. I hope somebody from your company reads this thread. The amount of penalties and SR down arrows I've received today for other people punting me, running me off the track or swerving back onto the track and hitting me is absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

I broke a controller today. My PS4 is probably next.
I got two SR downs leaving the pits after changing only tires. Went in and came out all by myself without incident. Smh

An altogether more satisfying weekend.

EMEA

Nations, Barcelona

Slot 1:

Highlights (5 minutes):

It didn't start great, only qualifying P18. And it was pretty rough and tumble during the race. I eventually finished P12 (promoted to P11) for 38 pts.

Slot 2:

Highlights (8 minutes):

(Ignore after the 8 min 35s mark - I can't seem to remove the unintended extra clip in Youtube.)

Marginally better qually, starting P15. I was delayed on the first lap by a tussle between two sparring Italians, but was P9 by the end of the lap and P7 when I pitted on Lap 9, having been 4 places higher at one point due to others pitting. Two laps on Hards and I was back in for Softs, rejoining in P10. The French car which had compromised my qualifying then had a bizarre failure after leaving the pits - controller issue possibly - and I was up into P6 on Lap 17 but was punted off by one of those Italians on the penultimate lap and again at the start of the final lap, having repassed him. He then did the same to a French car which had passed us both when he hit me! So I was now P8. I was promoted back to P6 at the finish line as the punted French car and one other got a tyre penalty. Unfortunately, the Italian wasn't demoted. 56 pts and a Clean Race Bonus, something I doubt the Italian got.:dunce:

Manu, Dragon Trail Seaside

Slot 1:

Highlights (9 minutes):

One and Done! A P9 start, with some cracking 2 wheel exits from the bus stop to come. Finished P3 for 60 pts and a CRB.

.
North America

Nations

Slot 1:

Highlights (12 minutes):

Should have started higher than P15 but another driver misjudged his braking and spoiled both our laps. He did however apologise both after the race and by PM and we shared thoughts about the race. Lights out and the car in front messes up, so a place gained. Madness ensues and I'm P10 halfway through the lap. Madness ensues, and I'm hit and then tapped out by a Lexus driver who had been showing dubious conduct already. Down to P14 before Lap 2 is completed. I repay the compliment to the Lexus on Lap 7 when he brakes too early. I avoid a collision on Lap 12 when a driver, who has previous, jumped out from behind the car in front, right into my path without a care for etiquette, but I pass him and into P8 and soon after into P5. But that 'Dark Lord' makes a pretty dirty pass at the chicane and then promptly dives into the pits right in front of me! But I jump him in the pits as I have enough fuel and emerge in P7 which I son convert to P6. Final pit stop on Lap 15 and I finish P5 for 59 pts, but feeling I could have done better had I not been taken out. My DR had gone up considerably, so I gambled on another shot with more points on offer...

Slot 2:

Highlights (7 minutes):

I only needed a P7 finish to gain more points than my first attempt, so opted to be fairly cautious. Started P10 and gained 2 spots before reaching P6 on Lap 5. Then I gained another spot with an audacious but clean pass round the outside of that infamous tight left-hander. Pretty proud of that one! Entered the pits on Lap 7 from P3 and rejoined in a clear P6, having refueled. By Lap 17, I was comfortably in P4 and with P2 and P3 pitting at the end of the penultimate lap, I began the final one in P3, sandwiched between them as they exited. But the P2 Nissan was struggling on its cold tyres and I was so close to passing that when it snaked just little, it went off, probably with a slight touch from my car, though I was likely to have passed either way. The driver exited straight after the race, so it didn't seem he blamed me at all. The video doesn't really show the snaking clearly, it was such a small twitch. So I finished a happy P2 and gained a very pleasing 77 pts with a CRB as well.

And finally...

North America

Manu

Slot 1:

Highlights (10 minutes):

Starting P11, i wasn't expecting too much, although I generally do well enough in the Chicane of Doom/ bus stop compared to many people's experiences. Spoke too soon!!! In P10, still on Lap 1, I was hit by the P11 Honda on exiting as I was reacting 2 the two cars in front messing up, whilst he was simply intent on going as fast a he could. In post race chat, he made a comment about "messing up his fuel on Lap X" or some such, so I said "And messed up on Lap 1 by hitting me in the bus stop". He lied and said I was hit by a Mercedes, which would have been clever since the only 2 Mercs in the race were in P2 and P18 at the time!!! That ultimately dropped me down to P15 whilst he continued unscathed in my P10:dunce:. I made it up to P3 on Lap 8 however, and P1 on Lap 10 before losing it again shortly before the P1 Nissan and I pitted at the end of the lap. I rejoined in P3 on Hards ahead of the Nisan which required more fuel than me. On Lap 12, I was in P4, sandwiched tightly between the Honda and the Nissan. The latter made a contact pass through the first chicane of the bus stop, which i was less than impressed by,causing me to make contact with the wall before I could regain full control. From Hards to Softs on Lap 12, and starting Lap 13 in P8, rising to P4 on Lap 15. I finished in P2 with the Nissan in front and the Honda behind, for 71 pts and yet another CRB for the night.

So overall, that was a profitable weekend, with by far the highest points scores of all 4 races in the season so far.

I drove for Mitsu in the official season last year. Strengths: braking & stability, maybe fuel saving. Weakness: straight line speed (read: you will get passed even if you're in draft ), front tyre wear (though with the braking stability, you can move BB +5 and still have no issues).

They can be quite good in technical tracks with stop/start corners and not a lot of straights (e.g. Catalunya, Autopolis), but unless you're alien tier you're gonna be midfield at best and constantly at the back at worst. If you qualify high enough you can just about hang on, but if you start at the back it's very hard to make any progress because as soon as you pull out of the draft, it's like hitting a brick wall and you can't get the overlap needed to overtake unless you divebomb it.

The tracks this season are all quite biased towards high speed unfortunately. If you want to be competitive in a mother chassis car, you're better off going with the Atenza or Beetle. But if you're not concerned about points and just wanna have fun, just go for it. It's cool being the only manu representative in the room and overachieving in an underdog car

Dinos are leading the leaderboard here. Roadster is probably too slow on the main straight which is much longer than at Laguna last season. Stratos is similar speed wise to Dino but the extra twitchiness probably isn't worth as much laptime here as in Laguna.
Thank you. I'll pick the WRX because of the livery.

Will the Ferrari 250 Berlinetta version, drop to N100?

Exactly why I asked. I have a friend who is new to the game and also has lots of real experience, and he’s suffering with the Z4. It’s a pity you can’t at least swap for the M6 but I suppose it’s a competitive issue if not all manufacturers offer more than one.

Agreed but for different reasons. If you lay at night contemplating how serious you want to take this FIA series because one race you barely breathed on the rear bumper of another, or even touched the rear bumper with something soft like a pillow or a teddy bear and you get a one second penalty and another race you're working with someone through the field and since they have better straight line but you're better in the corners the person behind helps you by bump drafting down the straight and YOU (the car getting the bump draft) gets the one second penalty!?

Like no car should get ANY penalty for bump drafting (unless it's open wheel cars or maybe LMP cars because they would never work in real) life!!! I think I'm just going to do races I think I have a good shot in going forward and just say screw this game and it's constantly penalty system failures

-end rant-

Indeed, I agree 100% with you, the penalty system continues to be faulty.
One thing that never, ever, gets a penalty and gets on my nerves is when someone, without a gap, hits your rear side panel with speed, before or mid-apex, to unbalance your car, or even spin you. If you save it, and don't leave the track, you lose momentum and he passes you, or denies you to mantain your rhythm, passing you "clean" later. A lot of players are using this right now. Seriously, in which case a front bumper to rear side panel collision, is not dirty? The game shouldn't take into account the position of contact?

And to add my other post, in our top 300, 40 players with 0 points. Considering only Porsche top 100, were 11.

I tried out the Miata TC for the Nations race and I'm not sure if I'm digging the car/track combo, so I may skip it, I'll probably give it another crack tomorrow. I'm just envisioning a bumper-car fest though.

Been running some practice stints for the Manufacturer race, I don't think there's any way to fuel save enough to not need to refuel. I drove like I would in a qualifying session to see how much fuel I'd burn at max and I'm burning 9%-10% per lap, and I'd need to burn less than 6.67% to make it through without any fuel saving. Also, for some reason, I feel more comfortable on the Racing Mediums in the Cayman GT4 than I do on the Racing Softs, like, the Mediums feel more natural to me, while on the Softs I feel like I'm pushing, but not pushing right/enough to maximize their potential. Turns 3 and 4 also are tricky for me to nail consistently because of those massive sausage curbs on the apex of each corner. I'm thinking of running RS/RM/RH 7/7/1 for the race, or maybe 6/8/1, could anyone with more experience in these 3 compound races chime in?

You can change your manufacturer and cars after coming of Mazda RX-VISION on May 22.
https://www.gran-turismo.com/world/gtsport/news/00_3024515.html
You do lose all of your points to then if your manufacturer was not previously also Mazda.

However the user's question was whether, with manufacturers who have multiple options in a class (such as BMW, with the Z4 and two M6s in Gr.3; McLaren with a 650S and F1 in Gr.3 is another example), you can switch between those options for that manufacturer during the season - which you can't.

Seeing as the Stratos is dominating the Free Practice leaderboard in Asia for tomorrow's Nations race, I gave it a go. I didn't even get through 3 corners to know that it would be a gargantuan struggle to hold it together and keep it out of the barriers for a whole lap, let alone an entire race. The combination of mid-engine weight distribution, microscopic wheelbase and CS tyres make it a knife edge to drive...I doubt I have the mental capacity to keep it on the tarmac AND share the track with other racers.

So like the virtual baller I am, I dropped half a million on a Dino, ruined its classic lines with a gaudy livery and hit the track. Wow...this thing is a blast to throw around! Pitching it into corners and managing the weight transfer on the brakes with a hint of a drift is sublime when you get it right. The CS tyres are a challenge, but being on the edge of adhesion with a touch of countersteer in almost every corner is exhilarating. I bumped brake balance to -1 to make putting weight on the front mid-corner more manageable. So far, I'm only getting 1:53, still got some improving to do. With 15x tyre wear during the race, slinging this classic around with other racers will certainly be...interesting. I do hope to see some variety of metal on the grid on race day.

Yeah I just had a practice race after coming to the exact same conclusion: Stratos seems faster but as someone mentioned post race it’s you win or you crash with that one! The winner was in a Stratos but many Lancia drivers binned it. And apparently the Mazda is too slow, sitting duck down the straights.

I tried the Mazda TC first, and even that thing tried to spin out when I pitched it into the corners. I don't understand why it's suddenly more oversteery than all the other times I've driven it. I don't have the Stratos, but to my surprise, I actually did have the Dino, so I took it for a drive too, and it's so hard to keep it pointed straight coming out of the corners. No gas = typical MR lift-off oversteer, some gas = infinite wheel spin as you try to get a halfway decent exit. If I decide to race tomorrow, I'll probably be one of the cowards in the Mazda TC .

It must be the latest update that changed it.

Ha, that was me. I didn't realise you were on here. To be fair there will be people who make each of the Stratos, Dino and Mazda work. In my opinion the Stratos is the fastest (if you can keep control) and there's actually not a huge amount in it between the Dino and the Mazda in one lap pace. The problem is these races are very difficult to overtake, and that's where the Dino has a massive advantage over the Mazda. You can overtake Mazdas all day on the start/finish straight and there's nothing the Mazda driver can do to stop it. The Mazda is faster through the corners but it will be difficult to overtake.

All just my opinion. Everyone should use whichever they are most comfortable with :) For me personally the Dino strikes a good balance in speed and control-ability.
