Had a moment just now where I suddenly got disconnected from PSN while entering the 20:20, but reconnected and loaded into Free Practice as usual. Fingers crossed that I'll make it to matchmaking...

EDIT: I made it!

And guess what?

I became another victim of the sandpit realm.

More on that later...

It was at this point I should have just given up and raced in reverse gear for a laugh! Started 13th and finished dead last by over 10 seconds behind car in front. Took about 20 seconds Just to get back onto the track :ouch:

Thought I give the Big Willow a spin tonight despite my reservations about the sand and a general lack of practice.

20:20 Manufacturers
Got matched with @Lost Sheltie for the 20:20 slot, which proved to be a solid, but tough first run at 60K DR. Set a 1:10.935 early into qualifying while trailing a white and purple GT-R, and was pleasantly surprised to find one of the Citroen drivers bearing my Vitaphone livery. :) Though I was unable to improve my time, it was only two-tenths off the best I had done in a test lobby earlier this afternoon and just under nine-tenths off pole (another GT-R). Starting in 14th place, I elected to start on Mediums as it turned out that the GT LM was capable of doing the one-stop with few issues (14S-1M).

Naturally, this meant that I would drop a couple of places on the first lap, though while giving space for Lost Sheltie I of course did the traditional thing of putting two wheels on the outside going into Turn 9. Smacked the barriers and bounced my way into the pits, re-joining 20 seconds down on the leaders. Once the M6 behind pitted the very next lap, it was a lonely run from here on out. The Ford felt rather nice to drive, I have to say, but there were still a few moments where it came close to throwing me off course again. Other than those hiccups, my consistency on Softs was decent, with frequent strings of high-1:11s throughout. The only problem was that my best lap was about a second off the overall fastest set by the leading RX-Vision...

Not much else happened until the final lap, when on the exit of the Rabbit Turn a red Citroen got pitched off the road by a Renault between the Castrol Corner and Rabbits Ear. The Renault picks up a 1-second penalty before the GT-R sweeps around the outside of him going into Omega. Followed suit at the Repass Pass and finished practically where I started; it also helped that there were three DNFs along the way...

Decided to leave Willow Springs for the night as I felt even with the incident this was the best I could have managed with the Ford. For reference, the overall race time I set in the test lobby I completed was an 18:08.980 on 14S-1M, which might have given me a chance of taking 6th with a stronger quali lap. By comparison, the off cost me about 10-13 seconds on top of the deficit I would've picked up anyway with my pitstop. Subtract from my final time of 18.26.8, and I think I could've been looking at a total of around 18:13 if I kept myself on the tarmac.

Still happy with how the GT LM drove, though it does seem ironic that both American circuits I've raced at in Manufacturers so far have brought about my lowest scores for Ford this year. Even happier to find another FIA competitor using one of my liveries and doing well with it; the Vitaphone Citroen finished 5th from 5th! I would've got some Scapes, but in all that excitement I somehow forgot to save the replay! :(

Yeah that was an ugly first lap. 5 cars all going for 1 corner, so sorry if I squeezed you a bit. My race was basically the same as yours with not enough pace to be competitive, so I was 1 and done as well.

This is getting ridiculous. For the second time in a few weeks, a start on an FIA race bugged out. Same problem both times. Rolling start, the cars 11-20 stopped during the roll as the top 10 rolled away. After the start, the 11 car blocks everyone else and my gas pedal does nothing. After pushing slowly past, the gas works again but we're all way behind. I'm not gonna win any FIA races but I would like to be able to practice and get better. This stuff kinda ruins it. Anyone else have this happen and/or know why? Is it the driver holding ppl up that's lagged, or is it a server problem? Anyway rant over.

Entered the first time slot Manufacturers Cup race at Big Willow, for the first time as an "A" ranked driver... let's see how long that lasts! I was glad to see I was #18 upon the matching, but not so glad to see the idiot that punted me off at Mulsanne in the Supra GT race in our lobby.

But nice to see fellow GT Planet driver @Odiesback out there. I'll look to see if you share the replay, I didn't even think to save and watch that one.

Sure enough, that guy hits me TWICE in qualifying, ruining my fastest lap. He then coasted around the track causing problems for others. He didn't even appear to make an effort, and ended up last on the grid. Should be banned.

Was most concerned with our power going off-- we were in the middle of a wicked storm and it had surged twice already this afternoon... would be my luck to have earned A rating, then lost 2000 pts due to power-interrupted disconnect!

My strategy after qualifying 13th, was to start on the Mediums, then ditch them for the softs and hopefully steer clear of the carnage while being able to hunt down the guys who went off during the race, and take what was left after others pitted at the end. It was the wrong strategy from that place on the grid... I put myself in no-mans land, and paid the price. No offs, avoided a few rammers, but got completely stuck behind a rolling roadblock who I will give the benefit of the doubt to, was running a no-stopper. But his strategy became our problem, when two of us faster guys could not get past him, despite gamely sharing turns at it. And it was in part because he was kind of dirty, but he probably didn't see it that way, you can just imagine.

Anyway, cruised in to finish 14th, easily could've have a top 10 and positive DR if I had started on Softs, or even no-stopped it, since I ducked in the pits from the top ten without any pressure from behind after 2 laps (thanks to the unfortunate incident shared by @Odiesback above... which you could see brewing from a mile away, but what do you do!? Such is Big Willow.) As it was, I lost 500 of my recent 1500 bonus DR, even with that high door number and a middling finish. Probably won't try it again, but if I did, I would start on Softs unless I was at the very tail end of the grid.

(Thankfully, the electricity never went off!)

Pretty "meh" race.

Wow, was not expecting anything but got a good finish right away despite very little practice. The merc kinda sucks here tbh. Qualified in 3rd (1:10.9) with a good slipstream and had the pace to hold steady gaps ahead and behind all race. The race was uneventful but I'm happy it's over.

So much time to be gained and lost in this sector:

Carrying speed in the left handers in particular is critical.

FIA Manufacturers North American second slot at Willow Springs was the race that nobody but the polesitter wanted to win! A/S lobby, I was ~ 33.2K DR before the race and felt good in qualy in the Mercedes and managed a respectable P9.

I used a strategy of 14S/1M and by the time we hit the second left hander on lap 1 (T3?), I was in 4th as 5 drivers fell off the road through turns 1 and 2!

2 laps later, 3rd was gifted to me in the technical section and I set out after P2 a couple of seconds up the road. The polesitter was a further 5 seconds gone and pulling away by now.

On lap 9 or so, 2nd place drove straight off the road after the tricky middle section and explained in the post race chat that his kid brother turned off the television. Hey, I'll take it. To finish first, first you must finish and all that :D

The rest of the race was keeping a 1 or 2 second gap to the Toyota behind, which I did, and came home a very happy 2nd place for a season high 156 points, a CRB and over 1,400 DR.

Needless to say, one and done for me. (however, my alt account will be lurking out there, so dirty drivers beware)

@KosmoKazi Nice to see you there 👍 and see that at least you survived the carnage!

My second attempt was hilarious if not tragic!

Had #13 on the door, qualified 15th and after 3 laps or so saw myself in 5th place where I stayed to the end on Softs .. but...

... the race was so intense that I lost the lap count and when I realized to check I had passed the pit entrance at lap 14... doh!! At this point I just wanted to cry! :banghead:

I let a car pass, crossed the line in 6th and then witness my name go down until it stopped at 14th place!

Getting ready again... one of those nights!

@KosmoKazi - "that guy" was in my Dragon Trail race last night. Knocked me and another guy off dive bombing into turn 1, caused more mayhem up the road and finished 4th with a blue "S". I was LIVID. Still am, to be honest. 2 FIA races in a row for me now and I called him on it again! He's now on my report and punt on sight list. No matter the circumstances or what account I'm using. Needs a perma ban from the game.

Those 260 points look delicious. I still wish I could join you all, mostly so I can kick Gears's booty and poke fun at his waifu in the game chat.

246 pts...in a squealy R8...around a deathtrap track. That's all I gatta say.

All of the dude's tunes are top notch. Very kind of @praiano63 to share.
The first person I went to while I was looking for a tune (since I can't tune to save my own life). I was relieved to see that they had one for the GReddy. :D

E: Uh oh, I think Gears heard about this. Please give me mercy. :'D

But no F-150 :(

I have been told that if a driver taps out of game to send a message or so this happens
Really? Can it happen once the race starts? Because I was just in a daily race, and a guy behind me lost it, wrecked another, and the next thing I know, instead of cruising to a nice points haul, I get a frozen screen and had to abort the game / restart... I wonder if the guys that wrecked out disrupted the whole thing. It was maddening! lost over 1000 DR instead of the 500 I was I line to get, putting me perilously close to the A/B line already!

Wish I could race with you all tonight because the new Mazda VGT is a rocket around Willow Springs, but I must sit this one out.

Good luck everyone who hasn't raced yet! See you on FIA Saturday for sure.

you ain’t kidding. One of the guys I race frequently and usually beat absolutely smoked my FP in the Mazda and popped up in my split tonight and ran a full second faster race pace than me.

The Jag also isn’t the best at Big Willow. The Beetles, Pug VGT and RX vision were the top 5 in my race.

Kaz put me near the top of second split for this one. Put the car on pole by 2 tenths with some slip at the end of the lap (1:10.7) and drove a clean race to the end. Extremely happy with my performance and I'm looking forward to Interlagos on Saturday.

Got to say that in some sick way I am at least feeling better that I wasn't the only one shafted at Big Willow, but also totally 🤬 off that those punters are seemingly winning with both the penalty system and the race results. There has to be some way to work on fixing this. 💡

Also good to see so many people enjoying the race and getting good results. I love that track and except for 1 small moment it was a total blast. Anyone worrying about it just go for it anyway:tup:

I forgot — P13>P10. No real drama besides the fact that people spinning in front of you sucks and kills momentum for the rest of the lap. Maaaaybe I don’t get caught by 3 early pitters on the last lap of that didn’t happen on L13. Who knows.

plus 65 DR. I’ll take it and get the hell out of Cali thankful, haha.

Slight livery modification for this round.

On to the weekend’s races and I think I’ll be giving the Nations Cup race a miss, as the last time I raced Tokyo Expressway on the dailies my DR & SR plummeted. Plus I’m not great in road cars.

I did a few laps in the SLS AMG at Interlagos having never used it before and found it decent enough, except it seems to take forever to brake. I managed to log a time 2 seconds off the top time in the region within about 7 laps and can definitely go a lot faster. I like Interlagos so I’m looking forward to Saturday.

That was up and down after 1st race qualifying 4th with 1:11.000 and maintaining 5th the entire race until the final turn where somebody runs me wide and straight into the pit lane where I end up 15th while the guy just laughs in game chat afterwards.

I'm consistently hitting low 1:10s in practice no wear but for the life of me I can't break 1:11s in qualifying gave it another go and qualified 5th and ended the race in 5th after working together with an 911 RSR the entire race I passed him around lap 4 and he got me back right before pits on lap 14. I could've got the spot back but decided against it after working together for so long.

Only lost a 1,000 DR though today so not too bad! That Ford GT LM is a freaking monster at Big Willow. Wish I could give it another go but I'll settle for my best point total on the season!

202 Points that was the goal!

First time in a long time I actually went head to head with Deafsun without someone wiping me out early. Unfortunately, my tire wear was not that great.

Also, bonus meme video because I thought slipstream qualifying was going to hurt me this round. Thankfully, it didn't but I ran with the idea anyways.
