yesterday at willow springs

B: OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! but our car has 6.3 stability, how is this possible?

t: yes, about that..
Was something going on... oil laid down in that turn or something about it causing more wrecks than ever.

I haven't made a mistake there in weeks, including hours of practice for this week's FIA race and the Mitsubishi Daily A race, along with some other racing. But there I was, on lap 12, going off into the desert. Time to head into the pits and change those tires early, I may as well since I'm already there...

You'd think with how many times I've lapped Interlagos I'd be a pro at it now, but I still don't feel entirely comfortable on it. In the Cayman I was only able to lap in the mid to high 1:40s with fuel and tire wear on in a private lobby, I'm not sure if that's competitive at the mid-A level or not. Still hoping for a good points haul but feeling too great about it.

Where you able to keep up with the other cars (assuming you where in a racing situation with those time)?

Only 3 of the top 10 BMW drivers in NA even braved the Willow

Did a couple runs at Tokyo. Tried a race setting(for higher top speed) and a qualy setting(quicker acceleration). On race day, are we able to adjust our tune after Qualifying?

I tried a few laps of Tokyo Expressway for the Nations Cup and I can’t see any other outcome than a horror show for me.

On to Manu and I’ve been using the SLS AMG at Interlagos and whilst it’s not bad, I’m not too keen on it.

If anyone missed this race the other week that I livestreamed, well worth a watch :)! Pure Driving, Pure Racing

I enjoyed that.

Just subbed. I’d been looking for some more non-shouty YouTubers to watch recently.

For reference, i was able to hit your lap times in the WRX. I'm currently at B level (27K range).

And after calculating the power-to-weight ratios of the two cars (lower numbers = better), maybe I should be a bit faster...:dunce: or you could be faster due to your ranking and experience. :D

WRX - 7.75
Cayman - 8.71

I'm familiar with racing Gr.3 here, so I don't know what's a fast/decent/slow time for Gr.4.

All week I had managed to stay on the track and then in slot 1 I'm holding onto 4th following 3rd and he let's one tire slip in the sand and I follow and we end up doing the exact same crazy slide up into the barrier rear ends against the fence together and then put put back onto the track into 5th & 6th. Fun times I just had to follow his line

I'm in the same boat think I only managed a couple laps in the high 1:39s majority in the 1:40s with fuel/tire wear. Doesn't feel very fast at all but at least no fuel/tire strategy this weekend so got a couple days to get dialed in.

Race 13 - Race Edit - 13 Minutes

I didn't realize that YOU were HiortinTexas... love your video guides- they are to the point, helpful, and nice and straightforward.

Watched your FIA racing playlist last night, from this season. Really amazed that we have never been matched, as I have raced with virtually every other regular racer in your videos many times, and we have very similar current rankings (well, except for @Jwptexas who has left me in the dust since the start of the season, on his way up to A+...!). But I looked through all the videos and my available race history, and somehow we have never been matched, in the FIA races or the Supra events, if you've done those.

Hope to race with you sometime, and maybe pick up a cameo in one of your videos! Love the McLarens, too, what great cars, that also sound fantastic when racing.

Y'all need to up that DR so I can race with y'all again, lol.

Thanks for the data! I can't say about if you should be faster or not, but I definitely know I'm slow around Interlagos haha. I'm terrible at taking T4 and Juncao correctly, which then compromises my run into the infield/front straight, so I know I'm losing time there.

Both those corners penalize you for being too aggressive. Brake a little earlier and get your inside wheels riding over those curbs. Slow in fast out, easy to say, hard to do, especially during the race.

Definitely. I have the problem where I take it too slowly, then try to go faster, but then I end up going too fast again. I still haven't found the perfect speed/entry/exit yet.

So strategy for Interlagos is drive as fast as you can and pray you don't get punted off! 👍
Yep, it'll be all about qualifying and then driving solid for 11 laps

The WRX is probably the fastest car over a lap around Interlagos at the moment. It's a beast around the twisty bits and it dominated the qualifying times last time I remember Gr.4 being here, but on that occasion the tyre wear was too much for it in the race. Multipliers are lower for this so tyre wear won't come into it. It's anybody's race though in my opinion. While the WRX is slightly quicker on its own most of the other cars can keep up with it with a slight tow

What @bdubclub said! Those two corners are all about restraint going in and getting the perfect drive out, go in too quickly and they'll cost you a ton of time. But during a race it's hard to do, especially if you have someone closely inspecting your exhaust pipes because you know you're braking early to get the car settled for the corner and you're always worried about a tap up the back or a dive to the inside

I’m struggling at Interlagos a bit. My best lap time is 2.1 seconds off the best in the region and I’m not sure if that’s quick enough to be competitive for 31.5K DR.

I like Gr4 but Interlagos is much better in Gr3.

I'm not convinced the tune makes a big difference around Tokyo. I tried prairano's tune against my usual simple quick tune (slam ride and harden everything) and they're both within 0.5 sec of each other. Granted prairano's tune is for Nurburgring and the track characteristics are completely different but still. Meanwhile while tuning the car my driving improved and I gained 2 seconds from better lines alone compared to my first lap.

Moral of the story, unless you're already an alien and looking for that extra few tenths, focus on your driving technique ;)

Interlagos - well I'm just gonna be waving people by up the hill in my Slowbaru  :banghead:

0.5 sec can make a big difference in quali. Sure, the driver is the main factor in lap time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try to squeeze out a little more from the car. I tried Mistah MCA’s tune and beat my previous best by 0.7 sec. My current best in time trial is 2:22.4. Hopefully I can finish 10th or better in the race.

Ran a practice race for Manufacturer's and there was another Cayman in the lobby driven by someone slightly higher in DR than me, and we both didn't finish well at the end, so I'm going to be going in with low expectations. I was able to bring the lap time down to 1.39:9 on around lap 3 and lap consistent low 1:40s in a lobby free practice with fuel consumption and tire wear on so we'll see how that stacks up tomorrow!
