I decided to have a crack at Spa in the end and kind of wish I hadn't. Door number 3, qualified 9th after a few bumps robbed me of a good and I picked up a 1 second penalty after someone swerved in front of me causing me to go in to the back of them. I finished 7th but some guy went for a dive bomb on the last chicane of the 7th lap which resulted in me getting a 1 second penalty for me for 'turning in to him'. The result was I lost another 19 SR so I have now dropped from 99 SR to 54 SR in two races. A slight drop of DR too but I'm not too bothered about that. I'm going to do the 4:40pm race in the Nations but I can only imagine with such a low SR it will be horrible.

This game really kicks you in the nuts sometimes.

Edit: I'm door number 1 for the Nations :) Not been great so far today! Let's hope the race is good.

Well that was an eventful day!

Nations

Had a little practice in a room beforehand and felt like I'd got ok-ish pace but was smooth, so fancied a long run on the mediums to mix it up a bit and jump a few spots with an undercut in the race. Picked a livery judging it from one side, which unfortunately turned out to be a crime against eyesight. But fortunately got disconnected when typing pre-race greetings so nobody had to see it! Unfortunately @watto79 also got disconnected, and I think he's a bit useful with this combo. So that was that

None and done

Manufacturers

I've not hidden the fact that I've been looking forward to this, even in the FR Merc, felt I had real pace in it and could mix it with a lot of the Porsches. All I needed was a favourable split and not too many of the quick guys in MR cars. What I got appeared to be 2nd split, Derek-737 leading the way in his Peugeot, and just 15 MR cars in there.

Qualifying wasn't great, not terrible but not good. Couldn't get near my lobby best of 2:42.0 (which would have put me 6th) so had to settle for a 2:42.7 and 12th on the grid. Things should happen this race though.

I started off and I tip-toed around the first few corners, including Eau Rouge, fearing freezing cold tyres, much to the annoyance of a Porsche who got the tow and pushed past into Les Combes. Someone else in a Porsche has a mishap at the end of the lap and I was back up to 12th, with the race settling down and me feeling comfortable with the tyres. I set about chasing the Porsche but came across the problem I'd 'seen' on the deltas in lobbies. I was a match over the lap, much faster in the middle sector, but accelerating out of the bus stop and La Source would cost me half a second. Getting held up by what was beginning to form as a train of cars at the end of L3, the Porsche ahead made a mistake running wide out of Blanchimont, I saw an opportunity - and I got the braking wrong. The Porsche didn't see the Mercedes-shaped missile coming up the inside, turned in and we had a collision. I'm pointing the wrong way, he resets, I let him pull away when we're going again but I'm down in 18th and feeling rather sheepish, 'wifi password' takes advantage of my dirty tyres as I restart and pushes me down to 19th .

A couple of cars have offs (I think they were Porsches), and on L6 after wifi lost it out of Stavelot I was up to 15th, 3s behind the same Porsche I'd had off earlier. One lap later the gap was 0.8s but then the same problem presented itself and I was just losing too much time accelerating out of the slow corners to the Porsche to be near enough to make a move into braking zones.

Finishing 15th, I was disappointed with how it went - especially with my incident but I guess that's racing. If it had been a time trial I would have backed myself for at least a top eight finish, in the race though I was weak where you can overtake and strong where you can't - and that's not a great combo!!

The guy I hit accepted my apology after the race, he was definitely in a Porsche

I'm starting 19th after getting seeded 20th. This is going to be a total pain in the ass.

Weird weird race at Suzuka, eventually. Started 10th. Got three SR downs for people braking early at Degner 1. Went 7M/6H, the leaders all two-stopped. I was much faster than other cars around me when we were on mediums, but I was slower when we were on hards. Ended up 7th and an SR of....... oh, 98. I was expecting worse.

The Scirocco is quite fun to drive, too.

I should be happy about climbing 9 places, but half an hour of constant anxiety about getting divebombed or caught in the astroturf/gravel just ruins you. I really only held on thanks to the chaos behind me.

In what was my 250th race in GT Sport the Nations went okay in the end. Due to dropping to SR B I was in a real mix of DR levels and the maximum points on offer was 48 despite being 32k DR. I got door number 1 and qualified 4th after some idiot decided to side swipe me on the home straight and ruined my flying lap. I started on mediums and went up to 3rd after getting a good start off the line. I was stuck behind 2nd place for a while as 1st left us for dead (not that I would have caught him anyway as his best lap was a second a lap quicker than mine). I eventually got up to 2nd place and was sitting pretty comfortably. I went in to the pits for the hards on lap 6 in what was to be my only stop of the race, but in hindsight it was maybe one lap too late. I was eventually caught by the 3rd place driver who I believe was on mediums as he made a great overtake on turn 1 and pulled away to create a very comfortable gap. I finished 3rd and pushed my DR up a bit and recovered my SR to A/75.

Maybe I'm just not that good on the hards but it seemed to me that as long as you don't get stuck in traffic a two stop could be the quicker strategy.

Having done a Nations race that saw A LOT of bumping I can only come to the conclusion that the penalties have been turned down, as very few penalties were given.

That included a moment where I'm going for a fairly ambitious move into turn 1 only for someone else to go "I'm gonna make that 3 wide" barging me and the other car out of their way. No penalty given.

11th to 7th was okay and fun, but I really need to sort out my qualifying!

Well, today wasn’t great....

I had to start from the back in Nations after ruining my 2nd flying lap thanks to someone exiting the pits and immediately going into Turn 1 without checking behind for anyone on a flying lap. He apologised, but I was not amused with his lack of awareness. The only notable event in the early laps was someone (and his punter) getting sent into the Shadow Realm at Casio Triangle. Clearly the punter had a problem with the ‘victim’s’ driving, and I narrowly avoided being collateral damage. As the race progressed, more drivers visited the Shadow Realm, with the Penalty Gods smiting someone on the final lap with a 3 second penalty for getting too aggressive. Unfortunately, my sacrifices to the Shadow Realm and Penalty Gods were insufficient to ascend to hallowed top 10, and I finished 11th in a meaningless effort. Since I made zero overtakes that did not involve mistakes or penalties, I called it quits on Nations.

As for Manufacturers, I started 15th with a poor qualifying and ate a stupid 1 second penalty for grazing a ridiculously slow RCZ up Radillion. The rest of the race was forgettable, coming home in 14th. The points mattered, but I was not satisfied and tried to go again, only to suffer a crash to home screen while loading in. I kept my points and decided to quit while I was ahead.

Well, Spa took a lot of concentration but after a mediocre qualifying 13th managed to move up to 9th and enjoyed some close clean racing for most of it - so decent result for me in the wet.

But someone divebombed on the final chicane, maybe accidentally, but hit me and i got a 1 sec penalty! Now I’m used to gts working like that but I got a 20 sr down for the race. I touched one other person for a bump draft that I remember and never exceeded track limits so what did I miss with SR changes in the last update???

In the asia leaderboard, it was all Ferrari. The trick is to use 6th gear instead of 7th on the Ferrari to be a couple kph quicker bar the downhill section. The difference with the McLaren is around 1 second I think.

Assuming you mean Round 27...this should be interesting. I figure there's only gonna be one or two viable choices. Slipstream being on weak instead of real is also a neat change, I assume PD wants constant overtaking. Definitely not gonna miss this one.

Manufacturers was as miserable as an Irish January. I qualified 6 seconds off the pace in 18th, had Sbinotto in my ears constantly through laps 4 & 5 and ended up 25 secs off the next car, barely beating the buzzer to cross the line in 18th for 57pts and -1300DR. :grumpy:

A few weeks ago I was pretty much done with the FIA races; to many dirty drivers. stupid penalties, poor results and my self-confidense getting lower and lower..... I decided to take a break and see if i still wanted to participate.

How things can change.....After that short break; for the last 4 races I actually had fun, some good results and encountered only two (very) dirty drivers and managed to finish in front of them. But more importantly the majority of opponents were good and clean drivers .

Then came todays Nation Race.... door number 19 and qualified 13th. My first standing start with false start check ever!
I decided to go on hard tyres, pit after 1 to 3 laps, depending on the amount of carnage i was surrounded with and then do two stints on the medium.

Start went well and was 10th after the 1st corner. No major incidents seen expect for a bad start by the polesitter and he was 12th at the first corner. Some penalties were given and some made mistakes and at the end of lap 1 i was on 6th!?

I could keep up with the drivers in front of me after 2 laps on the hards and decided to change my strategy and stay on the hard tyres longer and do 1 stint on mediums.
And think that was the right decision, i was driving with confidence and maintained a steady pace on the hard tyres, I was cathing the cars in front of me and when they pitted around lap 6 I was in fourth.

I pitted lap 8 and come out 7th. A few turns later a Greek driver right in front of me left the track, came back and we made contact. Fortunately i came out the better in the contact and got right in front of him. (apologised after the race to be polite but seeing the replay just now he came in to me as i had the inside of the corner, so racing incident)

When others pitted i became 4th with about four laps to go. Also on the mediums I was driving a smooth rhytm and in a steady pace. In lap 12 I could see a Spanish driver was cathing up on me, being almost 2 seconds faster on probably very fresh medium tyres and i put up a bit of a fight for a few corners but he overtook me very well in the chicane,

Last lap i cruised to a 5th place and the highest number of points i ever received. More importantly i had again a top race in a good, clean lobby. I beginning to get the feeling that at least some of the dirty drivers have left the game and also starting to get the feeling that I am not as bad a driver as i often think i am....

Qualified P9. Solid.
Didn’t realize it was a standing start. Bonus!
So took advantage of a false start and was P7 before the first corner. Was stuck there most of the first stint until a few guys pitted on lap 7. Able to take advantage of that as I pitted from 5th back onto mediums. Then a penalty and a great overtake upped me into a podium position. But that’s where it all went to naught. Didn’t realize the guys around me where on a one stop race. So after my stop for hards, I was back to 5th. Which is more than a good race. Solid racing from my Manufacturers Cup Ferrari foe, and an appearance (he got involved in the mess of mid pack racing) from @Trone_Colby to make my one and done weekend complete.
