A lot of familiar names in this race, wish it could have gone better, but I guess we all felt the wrath of the update and others mistakes.
I qualified mid pack, noted 5 S/S level drivers, so thought a top ten would be ok. Lap 1 had 3 different cars bumping and shoving in turn 1, up ahead it looked even worse. Some shoving got an orange car all loose and as he went across my front bumper from the grass on the right to the grass on the left he touched my front bumper...I got a 4 second penalty. Dropped me to 17th. I worked my way back up to 13th since there was more bumping and banging, then 12th on the last lap and when @GTWolverine parked at the finish line I gained 11th. 135 frustrating points. Minus the undeserved penalty I think I might have been 8th or so?
There were so many laps where I got pushed wide and bump passed, my fastest lap was lap 11 on hard tires when I was finally on open track.

I did the rain race, knowing I shouldn’t, in the Corvette. 5 S/S drivers in this one too. Most in mid engine cars, smh. Of course I messed up the chicane leading to the back straight on lap one, dropped to last. Worked my way back up only because a couple racers had an even worse time. I finished .5 seconds behind 17th. 16th and 15th just in front of him.
Door 18, Q18, Finished 18, 75 points.

I ran the Spa race on my alt in the Corvette... that car is just not competitive in that race. Struggled to a 13th place but was never able to keep up or close in on anyone on pace. Just no chance to do well. As much as I like it, it’s really deficient in some races, and that was one.

Been a little delayed getting things uploaded, but here's the full video from my Manufacturer's race on Wednesday:

Brands Hatch is the Duality of Racing for me: I can either go extremely quickly, but probably make a ton of mistakes, or be very steady and consistent, but also much slower. Because Brands Hatch is a track where you have to be at the limit to go around quickly, but has no run-off areas and won't hesitate to spin you if you go slightly wide, this has never been a track I've excelled at. But, the three-tire option, two-tire requirement intrigued me since strategy can always help make a race interesting. It was good to see a familiar face in the form of @Jwptexas as well!

Qualifying went better than expected. I didn't attempt to draft anyone, and despite putting in an only ok-ish lap, I qualified 9th. I could've qualified better, but I couldn't hook up a decent lap. Since I was within the top 10, I decided to start on the Racing Softs and go for an attacking strategy.

By the end of lap 1 I'm already all over the back of the Jaguar ahead of me, but when I try to pass into Sterling's Bend they oversteer and slam into me and slow both of us down. Luckily for me, they spin themselves out coming out of Graham Hill's Bend, but now I've lost over a second to the car in front and I'm under attack by a McLaren behind. The McLaren passes me into Hawthorne's Bend, but I take the position back into Westfield Bend.

Over the next 4 laps, I maintain the gap to the RCF behind and reel in the Cayman in front. However, when I try to make a pass into Hawthorne's Bend on Lap 6, they move defensively twice, which causes me to inadvertently bump-draft them. Coming out of Sheene Curve, @Jwptexas has had an incident and is crawling back on track but then disappears as he quits, which throws the Cayman ahead off. I try to capitalize on this and pass into Graham Hill's Bend, but the Cayman turns in like I'm not there and I tap them. Coming into Clarke Curve, they then nearly push me off the track, and I lose a position to the RCF. I eventually pass by getting the cutback on them heading into Westfield Bend on Lap 8 and make a forceful pass, but it slows me down and I lose a spot to an NSX that was behind.

By now, I've worn out my Softs too much, so I pit at the end of Lap 9 for Mediums. I come out in 9th, losing 2 positions, directly behind an Evo, who pits at the end of Lap 10, giving me 8th. I'm then left running a time trial as I have big gaps ahead and behind. Over the next 6 laps I eventually go up to 4th as I pass people pitting, and I pit at the end of Lap 17 for Hards to run on for one lap. I come out in 7th, again with large gaps to the person ahead and behind. However, I inherit 6th coming out of Sheene Curve as the person ahead of me makes a mistake, and I finish the race 6th for 162 points.

I'll take it. It's certainly better than I expected, and it's finally a point total that will increase my overall score. I've finally had a decent race in the Cayman, which I've been struggling with since the race at St. Croix. And finally, I reverse my DR losing trend.

Even though it was a weak, final slot top split...a win is a win and I’m proud of it.

Started P4 and gained one position at T1 right away, because Suzuka am I right? Then the 2 leaders were trying to trade positions without losing much time but it was still slowing us down so I made sure to keep applying pressure, but still had to lift a lot.

Later the leader went off at T1, then it was a fight for the lead. Pole-sitter pulled away a bit but I ended up catching up on the 2nd stint. For some reason he used too much fuel early on and had to save when I didn’t. I was using 6th gear a lot and avoiding 2nd when possible.

I eventually took the lead on lap 11 heading into T1 and proceeded to defend like crazy for 3 laps until the end where I barely held on for a P1 finish and 264 points. Highest ever Nations score, 2nd highest FIA score ever for me. Glad I stuck around for the final slot. Here’s the race from my view. Enjoy!

I actually spent time to practice driving in the rain for Manu so the stakes were high. I got a PB record lap during qualifying to put me on 3rd (2:42.904)

The NSX behind me had a big grip advantage in the slower sections and it kept me stressed out. The critical moment came in lap 3 when I had to kill a half second penalty.

CLOSE one, I know it would have all fallen apart if he had passed me there. In the end I got that podium. Proud in FR.

This is why I should always watch a replay or two - even when I've got good pace. Watched your qualy lap and straight away saw where and why I was losing time through Eau Rouge! Would have made a huge difference in the race

When's the next time we can splash around Spa in FR cars?!!

An idea for a future FIA event perhaps? Free choice between road car and race car. If you pick a road car you drive less laps. With the last F1500T combo at St Croix, I calculate the GR Supra can finish ~7 laps in the same time as the F1500 can do 10 laps :D Would be interesting to see which drivers like to be the hunter or the prey.

Most people bump drafted in some practice lobby for nations that I did earlier. Penalties were turned on, but no penalties were awarded (apart from barrier collisions) and most people got a clean race bonus at the end.

At this point I have no idea if it will apply the same way in the race on Tuesday.

Looks like my season might well be over. I've managed to rebuild my SR to 59, but the struggle is real. Given work and other time constraints, I just don't have the time needed to get back to 99 quickly.

Just one FIA race will likely bump it up. They’re the best way to fix SR. Lots of points on offer. Just run one or two of those and you’ll be set. When I almost got reset a few weeks back, I realized after grinding and chancing and losing more SR in Dailies that it would have been easier to just do that!

This race was definitely bad for my health my heart was pounding during this one. Felt like I was right on the edge of losing it the entire race. Entered the first slot and saw some familiar names from GTP @Razgriz2118 , @Master Weasel and few other guys like SnipeyMcSendit who I've been in heated battles with past couple of weeks.

I managed to stuff it up in qualifying even using my regular strategy of staying in the pitbox being the last one out. Almost started 20th but clocked in my qualifying time of 2:43.616 with just three seconds to go in the session which was good enough to start from pole.

The race itself was pretty uneventful but you couldn't tell me that during the race I was so on edge. Luckily a WRX qualifying 2nd I was able to put distance between us fairly easy little Subaru couldn't keep up with the Ford GT on the straights and I was able to pull away 3+ second gap while the NSX finally got around the WRX and it was just a matter of managing the gap until the end and bringing it home which I did with 1.5 second gap crossing the finish line.

Well deserved win with my favorite track/car combo minus the rain! After having an opportunity to win my past 4 races and managing to bin it each race it's a miracle this race didn't play out exactly like those others!

Got a good 197 points and called it a night!

congrats man, great win on a very tough combo

Was looking at both FIAGTC Series' standings... and the McLean's model of FIA points values per race.

To be a Star Player in NA, it looks like this is effectively what it takes to earn it:

Nations: (projected points for 140th: 1200 or more)
Win 8 races as a 30k (min A DR) or finish on podium 8 times as a 35k driver. Or finish in Top 10 8 times as a 50k driver.

Manufacturers: (projected points for 140th: 1400 or more)
Win 8 races as a 35k driver, or finish in podium 8 times as a 40k driver. Or finish top 10 8 times as a 60k driver.

All based on this season (and the 8/30 scoring method), and projected final standings.

So anyone who was targeting to earn the "S" like I was daydreaming about it... that's about what it takes. I have some work to do for the next season! If I kept my DR where it's at, that means I have to try to get as many podiums as races that are counted, in any future seasons. I was only at about half of that in this season.

It is interesting that the Manufacturers Series points totals are somewhat higher... I chalk that up to the advantages of some of the cars, which tips the points toward drivers in those cars, whereas the Nations series is a more equal playing field and scatters the results more from top to bottom.

As it stands, I'll likely end up around 250th in NA in both series, having stalled out a bit in the Nations Stage 3 events, and bolstered up my Manufacturers standing at the same time.

As Charlie Cox once said, "Ford is an acronym for 'Floats On Race Day!'" Brilliant result and far better than what I can do in the wet!

It'll all be down to slipstream, timing your move and being able to find a gap to get past. I don’t think the car you choose will actually make any difference at all

I just ran a test lobby with 3 458’s and a GT-R. It was close racing the whole way. I think you are right, car won’t make the difference, the moves will.

Watch out for bump drafts!

I actually tried to race in the rain in the GT-R. I can sum that experience in one clip...

I was actually keeping up at most sections against the entire fleet of MRs around me. Then I got to the bus stop and I might as well have put the car in reverse. :irked:

If I run it will be in the GTR.
Same. I'm running the R33. Again, I ran a 458. It is quicker on the banks as it holds a couple km/h more, before it drops down to 395km/h. From there, it tops at 406 km/h. The R33 drops speed quicker on the banks, but it holds at 398km/h. From there, it tops at 407km/h.
With its higher max gear speed, I feel it can do the job.

The R34 final drive is 3.0x. Doesn't get up to speed as quick as the R33.

Up the hill, the 458 is slower than the R33. Downhill, most cars top 414km/h.
These are alone speeds, but if similar cars can link up, not bump draft, but leapfrog, I'm calling the R33.

Yesterday I finally had some good race experiences.

Nations, Slot 1

I'm used to driving FF cars, so the Scirocco, while having way too much power for its front wheels, wasn't too much of a hassle for me to throw around, and I like Suzuka a lot, so I felt good about this race. Then I get put as Door #1. Great. Qualifying wasn't good. On my first flying lap, I had a good draft, but then I mess up Spoon curve and 130R, setting a time that was 0.2s slower than my lobby free practice time, and on my second flying lap I have a bran fart and brake way too early for Degner I and then running wide at the Hairpin, ruining the lap. So, starting from 14th it is, with @Master Weasel alongside in 13th and @CJam ahead in 12th. I decide to start on the Hards and plan for a one-stop.

Everyone gets off the line about the same. I'm cautious coming through the Esses and I end up losing two positions due to this caution. However, it all kicks off at the Hairpin as someone forgets how to brake, sending several cars flying, including @CJam and @Master Weasel. In my bid to avoid touching anyone, I only get a net gain of one position. An innocent bystander to the collision gets a 2 second penalty that they serve, and @Master Weasel and another car go side-by-side through 130R. Unfortunately, @Master Weasel spins directly into my path, giving me a 2 second penalty and suspension damage. Knowing that I'll be at the back of the pack because of the penalty and the Hards, I decide to switch to a 2 stop. I figure I need all the raw pace I can and because I'm so far back, I won't hit too much traffic. Plus, the time in the pits will take up some of the time needed for the damage to disappear. So, I come out in 18th with a big gap ahead and behind, as several other people went into the pits as well.

I serve my penalty and keep 18th, but the two cars behind me are now right on my tail. I run wide into Turn 1, and the person behind me does the same. Last place, the same driver who started the Hairpin incident, tries passing me through the Esses, and while I give space, I go over the curbs and unsettle the car slightly, tapping them into the gravel. I call it a racing incident and move on, pulling bus lengths to the person behind and reeling in the people ahead.

I don't catch up to 17th place until Lap 5, and although I'm much faster, I have problems passing them from my own errors. However, they put their right turn signal on and let me by at T1. Thank you, my good racer. I catch up to a group from 13th-15th at the start of Lap 7, which included @CJam . With superior traction, I'm able to pass @CJam into the Hairpin, and I'm right on 13th's tail as they and I pull into the pits.

After throwing on my second set of Mediums, I come out 17th, and I follow the person ahead through Degner I to make a pass for 16th. I end up passing them at 130R for 15th, and go up to 14th as someone pits. At the start of Lap 10, I'm in a group spanning 10th through 14th. I get 13th through Degner I, and after making a feint at the Hairpin, I pass for 12th. 11th then runs wide through Spoon, and I'm on the tail of 10th.

I try to go up their inside in the Hairpin, but they turn in like I"m not there and I bump them. In the post-race chat, they go on to cuss me out and say I rammed them intentionally, followed by the classic "Reported" line, but I continued on. I catch up to a group containing 7th-9th by the Esses of the final lap. I pass for 9th in the Hairpin, and I inherit 8th as the person ahead serves a penalty, and I cross the line 8th for 135 points, right behind @Master Weasel .

Despite the terrible start, I got the strategy right and didn't experience much traffic to make a comeback. Even though this isn't the best points haul, I didn't feel like trying again since, all things considered, I think I was pretty lucky with the recovery from 18th.

Manufacturer's, Slot 1

I was excited for this race because of the rain, since I feel like I do well in wet-weather conditions, with my usual cautious-approach paying off by not over-driving too much. @Jwptexas and @Master Weasel , along with other familiar faces, were all in this race, so I knew it was going to be fun.

Qualifying went spectacularly. I was actually set for a pole one my second flying lap before going too slowly through the Bus Stop chicane, but I happily took 4th on the grid. This luckily meant I only needed to finish the last corner of the Bus Stop chicane to start and didn't put me too far off from first, and gave us a nice gap to 7th and behind.

For the first 3 laps, the gaps ahead and behind me stayed pretty constant, until entering Pouhon on Lap 3. The NSX and WRX ahead of me began fighting, and the NSX got a slow exit, almost letting me pass. This, however, slowed me down enough for the AMG GT behind me to get within slipstream range, and they made a pass into Les Combs on Lap 4, which I didn't defend against since I knew there'd be chances to fight back. Unfortunately, I forgot the power of the slipstream and braked at my regular braking point into Pouhon, and I couldn't dodge the AMG GT in time. I was rightfully awarded a 2s penalty, and since I saw they recovered and were within 2s of me, I kept going since I knew they'd overtake me in the penalty zone. So on Lap 5 I served my penalty and they pass me, and I barely keep 5th place. From there, the 911 behind me couldn't keep up and I followed the AMG GT across the line for 5th place and 164 points.

I was happy with the results since although 4th could've been possible, I still got a good points haul that increased my total FIA score, and minus the accidental punting, I kept things clean, consistent, and was fortunate to have had a good qualifying/starting position.

I expect to see about 30 lead changes in that race.

I was really hoping for a good result at Spa, to make up for the disappointment at Brands Hatch in the previous round. Despite practice though I was about 8 seconds off the Top 10, normally I'm 2-3 seconds behind. But I managed to qualify 7th, and made it through the first lap unscathed, though it was hard going in such a high ranked lobby. I missed the braking zone for T1 on Lap 2 and ran wide, only just managing to keep the Aston on the track. This slip up allowed the Corvette behind me to pass through, and that was the first of many lost positions.

7277822499751986200_0.jpg

I managed to keep the car on the track for most of the race (just), despite the Aston's attempts to oversteer over the crest of Eau Rouge and on the exit to Pouhon. But I missed the same braking zone again a few laps later, with the same result. I also misjudged Blanchimont towards the middle of the race, slipping off and scraping along the wall, but at least I managed to keep the car moving in the right direction. I started to make some progress towards the end, closing in on the Hyundai in front of me, but I'd left it too late, and crossed the line in 11th. I was the fastest Aston on track though, silver linings and all that. And it was a real joy to be in a lobby where everyone behaved themselves, which made for some exciting and enjoyable racing. Hopefully the Red Bull Ring will bring better luck.
