A rare Saturday where I could get not just Manufacturers done but Nations too :)

Manufacturers
Managed to qualify P6 with an imperfect lap, so felt fairly confident going into the race. From some limited practice I knew that I couldn't get the soft tyre to last 6 laps, so opted to do 6 laps on mediums and then switch to softs for the remaining 5 laps. First part of the race I'm trading positions with a Porsche but not much else happened. However as we end lap 5 I'm startled to see EVERYONE pit apart from me and said Porsche. I'm just thinking I've picked the wrong strategy here.... Anyway it worked out. Came out of the pits in P6 and was able to push to pick up some places. The only problem I had was with not defending against a Mustang who then held me up until I got back past them a bit later. Something I need to work on. As it was I manage to catch up with 2nd and 3rd to finish a very satisfactory 4th place. If I'd been better against the Mustang I could have had another podium. I was the fastest of the 3 Mercs so that was cool too.

Nations
Felt more like I was playing Wipeout  Qualified 11th. Was doing okay fighting for 9th and managed to stay out of all the trouble until turn 2 of the final lap. I got a kick of oversteer between T1 and T2 that opened the inside for TWO cars behind me to try and overtake me. Car on the inside hits the car in the middle, car in the middle hits me and around I go. I was furious at the time but only because of my own mistake. I can't blame either of the other drivers for having a go and it all just got too crowded. Finished P14. Helluva fun race but a mediocre result.

Only did the first Nations race last night on very minimal practice. Went with the r18 which I guess turned out to be a bad choice, my strategy wasn't brilliant and my driving wasn't great either. Though there was some decent action when I was in the pack, but not a great result.

Last lap of Manu FIA :(

So realistic!

Group 2 at Fuji for race C this week followed by Group 3 at Fuji this week for Manufacturers followed by group 2 at Fuji for Nations next week.

MAKE IT STOP!!

It looks like PD really wants to push people away from Sport Mode. That or they want to make sport mode only fun and worth it for those taking FIA seriously.

"Even if you put a rrrocket ship, we will be behind the Aston Martins..."

The Astons top speed is perfect for Fuji and Bathurst for example.

At that massive Tokyo straight, it boggles up on 270, other cars can hit above 280 there, like the FT1 and Lambo. It gonna suffer there a lot.

I did when I was Aston.

I forgot next week Nation is Fuji again... i might as well skip the whoe Nations aside the silly AE86 at Tsukuba lol

I'll continue to do the FIA races, there just not that much fun! Which I guess is a bit like real motor racing..I think esports needs to establish itself as separate from real life racing, what I mean by that is it needs to emphasise its positives, esports can have perfect conditions with no mechanical breakdowns, it really is fastest player wins, we don't need to know who can preserve their tyres the best, or who can drive like an old lady to preserve fuel, just give us cars and tracks and let us race flat out till the flag.

I know i´m late but here´s my race in GR.3 Class on Suzuka from last week.
I was the only Nissan GTR in a room full of Porsches but this GTR was hungry and so I went to hunt.
The GTR had some better topsped and also better tire wear during the second half of the race. Even I had a bad qualifying result and lost about half a second to my time in training this car gave me the opportunity to gain 6 places during the race. :D

The solution is somewhere in between, as always. I think the element of realism is important and needs to be there, and since we have to compress races to fit into timeslots tire and fuel wear multipliers are also necessary. They've been overdoing it though. Tire wear especially, because it puts controller users at a disadvantage. That's why I didn't do Manufacturers yesterday. Ridiculous multipliers make driving unenjoyable as well.

Fuel isn't as bad as tires because pad and wheel users can do the same amount of fuel saving, but when it's too much it hurts the quality of the racing. Shifting before the red bar even shows up leads to much slower races and you're constantly stressing about the fuel. Fuel saving has to be there to an extent though, so I suggest to make the fuel barely last until the end if you're driving normally, and not last if you're pushing too hard (e.g. redlining before every shift).

Maybe pitstops themselves need to be made more viable. Although I've only done one round of FIA, I've watched a lot more. People often seem to go for the no stop if it's an option and have to save lots of fuel and tires. What if you could still do a no stop, but lose enough time past half-distance for one-stoppers to be able to push and catch up? That's basically what I was looking for yesterday. I'd come out of the pits way down the order, even last on one occasion, and put on a great recovery drive which was super fun. Sadly the leading no-stoppers always gained about 5-6 seconds on me. It would have been way more interesting if I, and other one-stoppers, had had a chance to reach the leaders before the end of the race. Shorter pitlanes (meaning the time spent looking at the pit crew) and faster refuelling could help.

Just some thoughts :)

A pick from left field:

Long story short, I may be the only one the world that actually likes the Pug VGT. It's almost like someone made the car for my driving style. Got qualifying spot-on and finished 6th in a top split lobby at a combo which I have always been terrible at. Compared to my old Jag, I am far more competitive which is a surprise to say.

Obviously, I put myself at a major disadvantage since I figured not many would even touch the Pug. Well, it's not fatal since it's exhibition and I suspect a few stragglers are waiting until the offcial season. That said, what is with Oceania? Are you telling me absolutely no one drove the Pug? I mean, I can't even comprehend that!

Hold on, I’m right with you on that. I love The Pug. Surprised at how well both classes drive. I am just below you (Gibson_Washburn). Of course, I’m only halfway up the B rank, and never come close to your level. Nonetheless, Peugeot is a “diamond in the rough”. The gr 3 car you’re in is fast, I went with the RCZ for my familiarity with it.

Peugeot may not be the absolute best at every course, but it finishes strong against the METAs.

Oh and the PUG is excellent on even tire wear f/r or r/l, as well as fuel.

What an absolute disaster in Fuji. All three slots, my qualifying was bad and I could go nowhere because of the constant divebombing or literally getting pushed around. Also, my tire wear was poor and all the 2nd gear corners really hurt the VGT. I could've had a Top 5 had I just put a good flier together.

Conversely, my first podium in Nations since forever although the field was rather thin. I am most likely abandoning Nations since who's going is all but a foregone conclusion.

The Gr3 RCZ is quite nice in twisty combos although the VGT is still capable as well. Its width and 1st/2nd gears hurts it, though.

The Gr4 works better if you slap on harder tires on the front and add TC. Admittedly, still requires careful throttle application to make full distance although I believe it will do great in qualifying on power tracks. Just try and hold up everyone at the end.

When you qualif by chance in front of faster guys , some of them will not be fair with you. It seems that you're not in their cast and will pass over you like their consider you a piece of 🤬
Most of the top guys are very fair when rarelly for any reason you have to deal with them.

Definitely disagree. I don't like it when the tyre wear has those massive multipliers. But tyre wear and managing your fuel adds depth to the racing. But the races need to be longer. In my opinion, the only problem is that PD is artificially inserting tyre wear into these races. Make the races a bit longer and tyre and fuel management naturally become a factor. But knowing how to manage your race is a part of racecraft and in my view it should be a part of the FIA Races. Just not with x24 multipliers where the tyres fall off after 2 laps.

Its sad, I had this experience once, they dont respect you if they dont recognize you as a member of their club

Slot 2 Manufacturer 2,833. Was able to make use of the AMG without dirty air despite getting through a bit of traffic on different strategies and @RoadBeef nearly completing the undercut. 4:19.13

It’s tough those top split lobbies. Once the bleeding starts it’s hard to stop, compromised corner exit and you were a sitting duck. Once the pack senses weakness nobody wants to get stuck behind, bad spot to be in. Don’t look at it as a dig on you man, you are plenty fast, it’s just racing at the top levels.

sitting duck
Really ? what was i suppose to do ? They were not so much faster , it was lap 1 , i drove the first corners like it should be so they stick , no troubles ! I could easily drive like them making my way ahead but this is not the good way in my opinion. When most of them pass me it's because i've let some space to enter ok. Passing me was ok , no problem , the way they do not respect my space , light contact is a thing but pushing me out of the track leaning against me was not correct . This is no racing , you can't say this .
EDIT , Ive finished 7

I guess maybe you mis understood me, nothing you can do in that situation. You got dirtied in the hairpin and that is what compromised your corner exit making you a sitting duck. Nothing you could do once your tires hit the sand, tough spot.

Your big mistake was not defending the dive into the hairpin. You left room there.

That said, all three players misjudged their passes. There was room in the first two to pass without contact but both passing players messed that up.

The third pass with that divebomb into the right hander just over the top was really poor though. Almost a t-bone. That player should be forced to watch the "how not to look bad" videos a few more times.

Yes you're right , i've let the door open for the first one , defending at this stage of the race ,1st lap , is not my option.
The second peugeot was faster in this section after the porsche's kers loosing his effect.
The 3rd one .... well .
No problem to be passed , i don't care to be in front or after anybody , i like the fight for the fun but it have to be clean and fair.
I've enjoyed all the rest of the race , could be better if i've had stayed in the front pack but it was a great race overall.

Not a bad showing for me @ Fuji. Finished P6 for 727 points. That's the lower end of the max points I should be getting but I stuck with them since this race could have been real ugly.

Qualy went poorly, I was about a second slower than I could do, on my last fast lap I got held up by someone coming out of the pits and he was one of those clueless drivers that for some reason wants to race when he's on an outlap instead of "GETTING THE HECK OUTTA THE WAY!" as I believe I yelled at my TV a few times in not so nice of way.

Anyways, started P12, my first two laps were hindered by some ludicrous penalties. I think I made my way to P8 but Lap 1 at the chicane, I am side by side with another driver and I guess because we rubbed then he cut the 2nd corner I get a 3 second penalty! It was the slightest contact so I don't think I punted him and even if I did, if anything he gained time from it. So 3 seconds at the straight set me to the back of the field. Then end of lap 2 at the last left hander, the guy ahead brakes early so I brake and tap him ever so slightly and he runs wide so I get a 2 sec penalty for this one. I looked at the replay after and I could not spot any contact, though I remember feeling the bump during the race, anyway, looking at the guys inputs I don't think my bump had anything to do with it, he braked, coasted through the turn then accelerated wide out of the turn. You'd think if you get bumped wide you'd take your foot off the gas.......

Penalties aside, I fought my way back up the field. I think a lot of drivers struggled with tire wear, a few doing a 2 stop. Looking at tire wear after the race, my softs were in better shape than some guys mediums. My Beetle chased a Ford GT as we both chased down a Mustang on some dead medium tires. It got close, and at the last turn were I shamelessly divebombed the FordGT then even though it looked like I got the better exit, the Mustang just had to much power on the straight and I lost out on 5th by a few 10ths.

I kept the points. Even though if I nailed my qualy and avoided other drivers I probably could have got a podium or maybe a win. I dropped to a 92 SR, so I wasn't sure if that would put me in a bad lobby so even if I won that one I might not get the 727 points I already had. And just as things could have been alot better, they also could have been alot worse, the fact I went P18 to 6th was pretty lucky.

2 days preparing and testing for nation GR1 , nice qualification in 4th place ready to launch and DISCONNECTED FROM NETWORK just a few seconds from the start of the only unique slot i will be able to race today. Really annoying .:ouch::mad::mad::irked::indiff:👎👎🤬:banghead::banghead:

Same thing happened to me the week before. I have a hardwired connection, and 400mbps speed, always an excellent connection (I'm a cable guy). Very annoying.

The penalty system just kills me in this game. In the Fuji race last weekend, I got rammed from behind at least 3-4 times on the first lap, and the guys accrued 0 penalty time. 2 laps later, a guy brakes too hard in that slight left-hander after T1, I tap him, and I get 3 secs. Ruined the damn race.

Do you know how "balanced" the BOP is for Group 4?

In one test race, I'm in an RCZ against an Alfa and Megane on softs. The Alfa eventually passes me before I pit while the Megane is milling around. Even after I pit and fall 20 seconds behind, I only gain 5 seconds on the Alfa before our times equalize while I can only get to within 2 seconds of the Megane. If the race was longer, I would start losing time against those two cars even though I stopped!

What is this extra tire wear supposed to accomplish? It needs adjusting per individual car, not globally.

PS: Even though the RCZ is bad on tire wear, it could be worse. I could still be driving for Slowbaru. My god, it's hilariously off pace here.

Could somebody please screenshot the global manufacturer ranking table when it gets updated after each round? I'd really like to know what it looks like but as far as I can tell, there is no way to see it before you choose your manufacturer, and I decided I would pick mine after the pre-season ends.

I can try to add a tab on my spreadsheet that has rankings.

Word of caution but if you're jumping in for regular season, I would wait for any potential BOP changes. Also, safe to say that most of the top Manus have the top guys driving them. If you're not in top split room, a lesser Manu may be the better play.
