Well I finally had a go at the Nations Cup race today. On a whim I decided to do an actual simulation run in my own private room beforehand because I had a hunch the race might be possible on a no-stopper. I discovered the car's tendency to break loose after it burned off a little fuel, so I was able to figure out a strategy to deal with it before the race. I lifted off the gas going into Turn 1 and stayed in mostly in the top 2 lanes, and that seemed to keep the oversteer at bay, while only costing me a couple tenths per lap, so I hopped into the 20:00 race.

I qualified 5th and narrowly avoided carnage at the start of the 2nd lap. I stuck to my guns and held my fuel mix at 3 except for a few moments when I turned it up to try to catch a pack in front of me (didn't work). I avoided a little more carnage, and ultimately made it home in 2nd place more than 4 seconds behind another no-stopper, running out of fuel literally 1 second before crossing the line. I enjoyed this race, just like all the oval races in GT Sport (on the rare occasions they come up...), and I even had fun overcoming the car's tendency to want to spin in turn 1, so of course I wanted to save a replay...

GT Sport saved a corrupted file AGAIN, so now the game crashes whenever I try to fast forward or rewind, and that ultimately means I didn't save the entire race. I have over 100 MB of free space, which is WAY more than enough for any replay, but for whatever reason, the game keeps corrupting my replays ONLY at the longer Blue Moon Bay races. It's done this twice now (the other time was a Gr. 3 race in which I WON FROM POLE AGAINST OTHER A/S DRIVERS, which is something I'd never done before, and haven't done sense), and has never given me this problem at any other track or race when I've had enough replay space. :grumpy::banghead:

...If anyone has a replay of the 20:00 race that has a player named equus_ferrum in it, sharing it would be greatly appreciated. 👍:)

That's a familiar name. Was there a possibility you were in a practice room earlier?

@GTWolverine - perfect, I was looking for someone to apologize to!

I decided to get back into actually competing today, but apparently picked the wrong combo to do it. Only gave myself 15 minutes to practice before the race too. I tried to stay out of peoples’ way down at the back of the pack. Worked my way up to 12th just keeping my nose clean, but eventually got collected in someone’s spin and took damage. Accidentally blocked someone on a straight too when trying to let traffic past...

Anywho, I recognize that username, and saved the replay. It’s shared as “FIAGTC”, with a description of “For GTWolverine”. 👍

@MonkeyMan_707 if you are still lurking here...

They basically understeered into you, picked up the throttle at the "normal" time as if you weren't there. Not really a big punt but still ran you off but as you mentioned in your stream they did redress. This can only be explained with them running hood cam and no radar, but one would think the proximity indicators on the hud would be enough to let them know that someone is beside them and they need to give racing room.

EDIT: I would like to just to add, "they" have decent pace, the redress shows they have some level maturity and sportsmanship. However they are gaining a rep amongst the oceania top split regs (whenever they sneak into top split) to be a bit of a risky driver to pull up alongside and doesn't know how to leave racing room or have a fair battle. Any respect that's left goes out the window when they put childish messages in the lobby chat and over psn.

Yep! It's rare that these opportunities to actually score well among top (or near-top) players comes up, so I decided to get a little practice.

Although I hated today's Nations Cup race where I had started 13th, I ended up in 5th place. As a result total number of points this season is now 1206.

Much appreciated!

Definitely impressed with the quality of driving from all involved this round, especially given the total carnage in the Daily Races recently. The pressure was definitely on this round, with my rating falling from S/S, to a very low D/A over the last few weeks. Decided to skip the Nations Cup entirely, to avoid any penalties from being forced into walls or other drivers, and focussed solely on Willow Springs.

Ran two races in the SLS AMG, qualifying 3rd in Race 1. But in my haste to get out on the track I neglected to change back to hard tires, as a result I ran out of tire quite quickly and lost control, losing time and positions. I pitted lap 6 and switched to hards, with no fuel required I was back out in no time. I managed to climb up to 2nd, as other races came off the track left, right and centre. However I miss judged my tire grip on lap 10 going into Castrol Corner and came off again, falling back to 5th. I eventually finished 4th, setting the fastest Mercedes time and picking up a clean race bonus.

I was confident I could place higher, and if I went out with the right tires and didn't come off the track, could even go for a podium finish. The next time slot however I qualified back in 9th, and came off the track on the first lap. Falling to 18th position though meant suddenly the pressure was off, and with no one to hit me I could potentially pickup a second clean race. Naturally, I wasn't the only driver to come off the track either, and with my lack of skill bad luck out of the way, I began working my way through the field at a steady pace. It wasn't all plain sailing though, having to fend off some fierce driving from the Audi TT of thebranchy63. Kneeslider149 certainly showed the size of his stones, making a play for my position by overtaking me on the inside of turn 9, when I was already on the inside. I ducked for cover and pitted on lap 8 for some fresh rubber, and came back out to hunt him down, putting the pressure on from Monroe Ridge through Wing's Leg, and overtaking before the last turn. I was in 6th place by the last lap, but the Mustang of MAD_MITCH_76 was penalised, and served the penalty on the home straight; I crossed the line in 5th by no more than a wheel's length. With two consecutive clean races I bagged even more points, and my rating back to a mid C/S. Definitely looking forward to next time

2 attempts at Nations and they end the same way: Me having a big hit in the wall multiple times and a nice penalty to rub in my face as if I wasn't already driving horribly enough. I tried going full throttle and either I am full sideways or I hit the wall. I'm avoiding ANY oval racing on this game from now on. Its not even the other drivers that ruined it for me, its me that can't figure it the hell out.

Manufacterer's race:

On one hand, it feels empty doing this after my SR and DR got battered so bad that I got stuck in a room with mostly D rank drivers and I only won because the only other A ranked driver lost it on lap 5. On the other after such a roller coaster last two days with my SR and DR, I pretty much welcome it. First in the GR.4 car as well, after the last 5 where solely in the GT3 machine.

Red Bull Junior on Blue Moon? Lmao PD pls, big yikes. No.

For Manu, the combo was horrendous for the Jag. Damage limitation all the way. Did only the first slot, got an ok result.

Since I didn't get a chance to race, I might as well provide the updated standings.

Ouch... thought I would at least be a little closer to the other regions for Alfa.

Won Nations and second Manufacturer race last night so a pretty good night. Will be very fortunate if the races on Saturday run half as smoothly!

Was hoping to nail the first manufacturer race but bottled qualifying. It is very hard to recover with a car that doesn't have great top speed. There is mostly only 1 line through the corners at Willow Springs if you don't want to run someone off or get run off track.

I'm away next week so last night was likely my last races for the current seasons, and neither went well.

Nations
I'd done some tyre wear practice for Nations so knew that turn 1 could get a little sketchy but still managed to get caught out when I should have been ready for it. The spin left me stationary facing the wrong way with a 1.5 second penalty. By the time that was served I was one from last. Stuck to my no stop strategy and recovered to finish 10th.

Manufacturers
Unfortunately I hadn't done any tyre wear practice for Manufacturers. I knew it would be bad and I could tell just from qualifying just how bad it was going to be. Qualified 8th with a less than perfect lap and opted to start on hards, and probably pit at the end of lap 7. This wasn't the best decision as I'd done exactly zero laps on the hard tyres. Start of lap 2 I'm on the inside of turn 1 and the car just reacts in a way I wasn't used to. Ended up cutting the corner and then shot back on the the track into the side of someone. They went flying through the shadow realm and out the other side. I felt really bad as I couldn't even see where they ended up. By the time the penalty is served I'm among the back markers again. Go long on the hard tyres and pit at the end of lap 8 swapping for mediums so I can really push for the last few laps. This worked reasonably well and recovered again to 10th.

I really need to look at my driving as I'm under performing in these FIA events. A top 5 finish was achievable in both of these but my own mistakes are holding me back. It's always a mistake in the first few laps that costs me so I have to work on that. Perhaps just throw myself into the daily races and get used to other cars being around me. I dunno.

Haven't taken part yesterday. Nation's Cup I haven't practiced enough to know what my fuel mix strategy would be and at BMB with those cars, chances are that my SR would take a dive. Manufacturers was at Big Willow, a track I really hate, because a mistake would send you to narnia...

Followed my gut feeling and skipped another round of races. Still sitting pretty and awaiting my chances:

Do you think PD are running some sort of survival wreckfest thing in the Nations at the moment. Last night it was the Red bull Juniors at Blue Moon, Saturday it is Gr.1 at Tokyo East Outer Loop (26x Tyre Wear!), and then next Wednesday it is Gr.3 at Monza.

Not sure what car has the best tyre wear in Gr.1, but I am looking forward to watching the Gr.1 Top 16 race, as that will be fun watching the good drivers hurl the cars around that track :)

I think Gr.1 race will be another race where it's all about preserving tire life and fuel consumption as I think pitting would lose too much time. Same will go for Gr.3 at Monza I think.

Is it possible to change the FIA Manufacturer for the next stage? I am not sure what I read before and asking is faster than searching.

@Lost Sheltie I'm Pinkarey btw, hence that last post lol

I was happy with P4 after those 2 took each other out so wasn't going to do anything stupid to get passed you but the opportunity presented itself, lap 12 I tried around the outside in turn 2 but had to get out of it cos I ran wide, last lap I just had to stay close to you through there cos knew your car was struggling on tyres.

Thanks for the clean race! Let's play again sometime!

Pretty sure we're all locked in for 2019 now. I'm sure I read that when signing with Mercedes before the Pre-Season.

Boring pace due to gas consumption in nation race , trying to stay away from trouble in turn one but somebody as many others spin in turn one right in front of me and ram me in the wall .

Manufacturer was ok but also the pace was slow due to tire wear. Out in last turn lap 12 because not paying attention. Hard to stay focused ...... boring races overall. 👎:indiff::guilty:

Yesterday at Nations I dropped out first, but not at all. On lap 5 I was saving fuel making the first corner out, then came a guy from DANIEL_GT07 (Mexican) and simply broke up my race. I wonder why the game puts pilots of this type with those who play clean in the room because it is not possible as the people are clueless. I've come to realize this in several stages, they use you as a guard rail to overcome, they touch you to overcome. Just ridiculous it.

Manu, mid-A lobby: Qualified on pole with 1:17.1 in my NSX. Held off a congregation of Caymans and an SLS at the start. Once I pulled a gap, I controlled the race from the front and captured victory. 6M7M.

1622 points. Still top for Honda in NA.

Fear the NSX. Highly underrated. Once you figure out the balance, overall speed is good and the tire wear is not so bad

Also since he posted right after me, big hand to the @Tidgney Driving School video on psychology which I watched this morning which allowed me to keep faith in the strategy I knew would get me to the finish without stopping, even when I was in 9th and 18 seconds down.

Nice to hear it helped mate :)! Always have faith in yourself and performances and results will come :D!
