Hard on 11 laps

The schoolboy part of me s******s.
I digress (and regress...)

I had a bog standard Nations race, as I realised I not only haven't much experience round Spa in this game, but I also haven't ever raced a Gr1 car there yet and the braking points are all different. I kept finding seconds on every lap to begin with. I finished mid pack. Which is terrible in a field of 20.

I then had a few beers as I had to wait for a shopping delivery. Went back for the manufacturers at 9, and I think the Mustang is a good car for the circuit, the weight of the car helps it over the inside kerbs of the first and second turns, and the rest of the track is quite forgiving for a heavy understeering muscle car. I went for M front and H rear for the first stint, then after 7 laps, losing time on the last lap, but giving me 5 laps twice on soft and eventually a comfortable lead by the end and a win.

Since my PS Plus is now finished and I can't afford to renew it I'll have to take a break from online racing, but what a way to go out - fastest lap too!

One race in Manufacturers tonight. I got my 650S to P9 on the grid, which I was quite pleased with considering that I was in top split. The race, however, was a different story. I went wide at T3 early in the race and lost 4 positions and my focus, which I never seemed to regain. I tumbled down the order while struggling a lot on my tires and generally putting in an appalling drive. T1 was my nemesis as I got 6 penalties there. I came into the final sector defending P13 for my life, but one of the guys behind me found a small gap and sent it, then the other one went around the outside of the last corner to take P14 from me by a hundredth of a second at the line. Didn't even bother to check the points, that was a race to forget if I've ever had one. :(

Sorry about the terrible replay manipulation. If you skip to 0:47 you see the start of my final stint tonight. I included the lap before it all kicks off to show you what led to it, and I tried to include as many angles of the main incident as possible. I'd trim the video down a bit and remove the IDs if I knew how, but I don't and I'm going again in the last race in five minutes so I can't anyway. Let me know what you think of this, or if you think I'm an idiot for what happened.

Ed - I got disconnected while trying to enter the last race, so I guess that's out. 120 points that should have been 170. ****.

Nations was good...11th to 5th in the Porsche 919 having screwed qualifying and given myself 1 lap with full fuel. A 59.0 under the circumstances was ok

Race pace was very strong doing the hybrid 1 stop but in reality the passes all came from mistakes and jumping folk in the pits. Caught the lead group for last 3 laps but moment hit dirty air my charge was halted. Happy with result and 243 points anyway

Manufacturers was a tale of what could have been. Lined up 8th in the Citreon on the M/H hybrid tyres. Unfortunately misjudged the closing speed on the alpha as approached turn one and bumped them. No real harm to them but in my haste to recover floored the accelerator and spun out down to last 12 seconds of lead.

Again very strong race pace, mistakes from others and an undercut moved me up to 8th by finish and only 14 seconds off lead. Good recovery by all accounts but left with a feeling I had thrown away at least a podium and perhaps the win with a stupid mistake. Target is 200 points per round and 8th still achieved that so target achieved I guess

This time was able to take advantage of the aliens travelling to Monaco, Megane Trophy Gr4 at RBR worked a treat, RM on the front RH on the rear, didn't know how long the softs were going to last and probably came in 1 or 2 laps too late but ended up in 2nd with enough points to maintain S rank as a top 5 Renault driver in Oceania without having to race again this season, good thing too because I'm only available for one more round.

I just did the 1st time slot Manu race. I'm in the Mustang. 1st stint 10 laps hard front/med back. Then switched to soft for the remainder. Managed to get 2nd place. Just throwing it out there for anyone who hasn't raced yet.

Keith.

Weird night. Bottled qualifying in the 1st nations race by running wide at Pouhon on my fast lap so started 16th. Didn't even make it to the chicane in the race before a guy clipped me going into the chicane, and then I got hit a couple more times going into the same chicane on next 4 laps, so just accepted the race was over and quit. Went and did other things for a couple of hours and then the racing bug nibbled me again.

Then tried the Manufacturers race and bottled the qualifying in that so started in 17th. First few laps were the standard Red Bull Ring mess with people missing braking points and clattering in to people. I got hit a couple of times but managed to make my way through the worst of the carnage, but by that point there was a big gap to the top 10 so I had very little chance to do much. Managed to have some decent fun with a couple of drivers but 12th was as far as I could go, just didn't seem to have the pace tbh.

Finally thought I would try the last nations slot. Did a decent qualy lap this time and got 2nd place, chose the hybrid tyre setup for the Audi and tried to take it easy to begin with (Was just trying to save tyres and fuel to begin with) . Nearly binned it at La Source on lap 3, but managed to keep my 2nd place and then caught up to the leader who seemed to be burning his tyres much faster than me. Tried a couple of passes, but didn't make them stick, so tried to calm down and save a little fuel, and when he pitted on lap 7 I pushed for a lap and then pitted. Came out in 2nd behind someone who hadn't pitted, but about 2 seconds ahead of the guy I was racing, and when the guy ahead pitted I had about a 6 second lead which I kept to the end. First win in ages.

So last, 12th and then 1st. Weird night.

Nah, you're not an idiot for that! Aston driver is an idiot for reacting to his penalty in that manner (which is what it looked like, he was pretty clean other than that), but a penalty of 4s for that was shall we say, excessive

Just finished the 19:40 Nations race, and the end result wasn't bad considering I was the only non-hybrid on the grid (Mazda LM55 VGT). I qualified 19th out of 19 cars, partly due to having the brake bias set wrong for qualifying (I had it set to understeer more under braking since I'd be running H/M on my first stint). I picked up a couple spots due to mistakes, then spent most of the race around 15th, then picked off a couple more spots in the final couple of laps while battling someone in a Toyota. I was looking at finishing an OK 12th...until the final chicane. The person in 10th just...pulled off the track for no reason at the final chicane. He had 10th solidly, but just decided to basically park it a few hundred feet from the finish. :boggled: That bumped me up to 11th, then 9th place spun out on the exit of the final chicane, then spun again when he tried to get going. I passed him just before the line to get 10th and 107 points, despite having completely the wrong car for this race.

A very disappointing Manu race in CSA with the WRX. I got wrapped up in a lot of incidents that had nothing to do with me. Fifth through seventeenth was a train of cars the whole race. First lap coming up to the penultimate turn with the entire field three wide and some dude appeared ghosting out of nowhere serving a penalty and I almost crapped my pants. My instinct made me swerve to avoid and I took out the guy on the right and a couple others went off, too. That was my fault but it was the first time a ghosted car made me freak out like that.

Recovery drive was going well. The one-stop would have seen me in P5 if I had free track. But besides all the evasive manouvers to avoid people battling in front of me making me lose lots of time, what killed me was when I was tapped in turn two and was pushed pretty far off track. I lost nine positions in that corner alone and the guy didn't even get a penalty. And on the next corner I was surprised to have no grip, I assume for going through the runoff area previously. Misjudged the corner and lost another two places.

Lots of people still had to pit so I got some positions back. All in all a disappointing race in a strong room that could have been much more.

I will not do the last slot. At 1:40AM it's a risk ending up with a 100 point room or something.

Due to the breaks, holidays, and Saturdays I will only be able to do one more race this season, so bye-bye S Rank.

I really wish they would move the Saturday races to Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays are like, you know, be human days with family and friends. Oh well.

Still absolutely loving GT Sport's online system. I've been playing the crap out of Assetto Corsa Competizione lately but to be honest, the FIA races in GTS are something else and well worth the time. The racing gets more fun as time goes by and the rooms have also been getting cleaner. Most of my issues tonight were just normal racing incidents. I don't know what it is about the FIA races but even in CSA region the racing has become very clean. Cleaner than in ACC, rFactor 2, PC2, AC or pretty much anything I have ever played (I don't pay for iRacing). I don't know how this came about because GTS has even better quality racing than the "serious" sims, but I would like to take the opportunity to send a kudos to PD for what they have put together and a kudos to all of us, the community, for taking this tool and using it to create some great racing.

All went well this round.

Nations:

Qualy 2nd ended up in same position, at the last minute i decided to use a strategy that was not ideal but was a safe bet that could prevent erros, i did M/M/H wich made me lose a lot of time in the overall pace but from pratice in the lobby at least in toyota i was struggling in the first 2 laps so i decided to use M/M at start so i can build the gap and avoid the carnage of the first laps, if i used H/M in the first stint i could made some minor errors and people behind could catch me and bump me or enter useless fights that could put me in risky situations and lose positions.

Manufacturer:

Qualy 2nd ended up in 3rd did S/M/H, same has above i think if i used the 1 stop o probably could ended up in 2nd or even in 1st but since i had so bad luck in previous exhibition rounds cause of the initial carnage so i decided to start on softs so when i exit pit the race was already more compassed, and worked fine i only losed the 2nd position in the last lap cause i was on hards but was a good result had a minor incident or two that made me lose a bit time but nothing that hurted that much in the final result.

First FIA win in quite awhile. Great 3-way battle for the lead, and had a lot of fun chasing down P1 on both stints. Lexus is strong at RBR.

Nations went well too on the 2nd attempt. Qualified and finished P2, less exciting of a race so no replay.

It was a pretty great day of racing after taking a few weeks off. New points are weird, whatever I’ll take’em.

All pretty frustrating. Was planning on going all in for the 9pm slot but got disconnected during matchmaking. This left me with a wait of over 2 and a half hours to race much later than I wanted to.
No disconnect this time but find myself in a pretty high rated lobby (I have door 19) and matched up with @SmokeyMR2 Qualifying goes pretty well, largely thanks to the tow Smokey gave me (thanks bud!), so I line up 11th.
Start on M/H tyres and am very comfortable with the race and the pace. Move up to 9th and am actually getting held up by a Lexus and a Ferrari, but can't get past. Pit at the end of lap 9 to go all softs. So its when I'm on the grippier faster tyre that everything begins to unravel. No idea why, practice lobbies had been fine but I can't get the car to turn in like I know it can and picked up a couple of track limit penalties. It was probably just me being tired as it's way past my bedtime at this point
Most enjoyable part of the race was the lap after I pitted coming through T1 to find a heap of congestion from other cars coming out of the pits. We damn near go into the right hander (never know if that's T2 or T3) nearly 4 wide. I'm on the outside and leave all the room I can but still get pushed wide, but no real problem.
Anyway, keep losing positions and Smokey passes me on I think the penultimate lap. On the last lap a bright yellow Mustang decides that there's no way in hell that Smokey is getting past, and if he does he's going to make sure he dishes out a penalty by running off the track. The resulting penalty did at least promote me to 12th (sorry bud!).

Saturdays 12th was a success, but today's 12th was a tad disappointing.

Well done bud it was a fun race up until that Mustang went psychotic  I saw you behind in quali and knew I wasn't on a great lap so decided to try and tow you along although I was a bit worried the dirty air might trouble you in last sector but you held it well 👍

Yeah that Mustang sure done a number on me, I thought been in that slightly higher group would mean better drivers but I guess not  well done anyway I think 12th considering the race and lobby was a decent result

I´m just entering manufacturers (SCA, Mercedes). Yesterday raced on the second slot, sharing the race with @Pfei

Qualy went pretty much OK, made it to P11 in a strong room, ruined last lap by cutting too much on the inside of T1, so got penalized and just lifted and went to pits :ouch:

Started on M/H, the car was a bit more tailhappy but after 2/3 laps it kinda got better and reached a more balanced corner entry. By lap 3 i was on P9 but got a 0.5 penalty because of breaking tracl limits at T1, which cost me 3 positions. Lap 9 or so pitted for softs (made a two stop, softs both times, stints around 4 laps) The end of the race was a thrill, las 3 laps chasing down a Scirocco and a Viper who were battling each other while I was on fresh softs. Last lap and catched them whit the last 2 corners left, the Viper got a bit wide like it was going to make a move on the outside but lifted, I saw a small gap and gave it a go. Failed to pass clean enough :banghead:, lateral contact but enough for the viper to go wide, so +4 sec for me. Luckily there was a gap with the cars behind so after getting the checkered in front of the dodge, just gave the place back.

Like Pfei said, it was a pretty strong room, very clean racing. Really enjoying the FIA races. At this point I´m 64 on SCA and 6th on Mercedes ranking. Hoping for a shot at the S rank :D

That incident on the last two corners was unbelievable! Why do people do that sort of thing, it just caused you both to finish much lower down.

No idea. All I know is I had a Penalty on the last lap and just like that, a perfect race down the drain. Starting to think I am just cursed in Manufacturers.

I had no time to warm up for Nations so I got an awful 58 flat for q when I knew I had low 57s in me. Took me 5 laps before I found my pace but the leader was 5 seconds ahead by then. Fortunately, they forgot to do the mixing tire compounds so I inherited the lead when he came into the pits a second time to ditch the hards. Was a lot shorter on fuel than expected so I managed the gap for a win.

Ran a mediocre lap for q but took advantage of mistakes and penalties. Only thing I did wrong was extend my first stint a lap too long. Final lap had a Verstappen/Leclerc moment.

Lord have us mercy! That was a headache. I quit the race on lap 11.

I used the TS050. Qualified 15/20 on RH tyres. I moved up to 6th place. Impatient players on fresher tyres just can't wait. I'm fighting for 5th against a slower Audi. I had to keep backing off.

As we come to the bus stop, I defend the inside from I think, a Porsche, so I can enter pit lane. The Audi ahead, is taking so long to turn, I bump it and we enter pit lane.

I come out behind it again. I don't know what it is, that Audi is so slow to accelerate. The player is braking too early. Like way too early. I then get a run after the downhill 90 degree left-hander. The player slams on the brakes as we're entering the fast left sweepers. I take that as a brake check. NOONE hardly brakes there. I get 5 seconds. I can see behind same player holding other cars up. My new tyres aren't fresh any longer. Entering Eau Rouge, two-wide, I get blasted into the wall. Tyres shot, pull into the pits and leave. Good thing "it doesn't count.".

05XR8, if that Audi was in a bastardized (black where the real car is white) Shell V-Power racing livery then the player is me.
I don’t recall being involved in a direct issue with you, I was too busy having issues with another guy from my friends list who was lagging like mad and kept jumping around in front and behind me.
I saw you quit, there had been a number of issues being punted/pushed wide for me as well and I generally hate Gr1 cars.

If it was my Audi that you feel brake checked you then I’m sorry. If it was around lap 8-9 then I was on shagged Mediums and loose as hell. I’d been planning on doing 7 laps on the Medium, but got blocked on the chicane trying to pit. I’d rather continue on than run into someone.

I did only that one race. Went to COD MW and shot people instead.

Of course, I didn't save the race(as I left).
Raced in the same room as you plenty of times. You're usually faster than me. So, I don't think it was you(May have had a standard liveryi- can't remember, as I was behind). I recognised another player on my friends list(six 7 red), I passed him and somehow, he was at the back. When all that drama was going on, I was trying not to hold up one of the faster cars, as I think it was trying to come through the field after an off.

I usually press on, but that was too much. Only race for that night. I've moved on. No problem anyway. 👍

Next is Interlagos. I might do that in the Atenza. The whole track is one big penalty infringement.

It was Six 7 Red who was lagging like crazy. He punted me twice which is very unlike him. He spun about lap 4 and was recovering.

I’m not too sure I’m faster than you. It was a night to forget.

Despite messing up qualifying badly and running a so-so race (with a 3 sec penalty for tapping someone who was already spinning out, no less), I still got my highest points haul in Nations thanks to the power vacuum at top split. If that's not a sign that the new points system is as bad as the previous one, I don't know what is.

Also, I figured out that my biggest weakness is probably driving in dirty air. It's worse with high downforce cars (Gr.2 and above) and tracks with lots of medium-high speed corners like Spa. I always practice alone to make laptimes as consistent as possible so my lack of experience running behind other cars is probably contributing. I'm tempted to take out downforce next time I practice just so I could get used to the understeer.

Great points haul mate 👍 Darn I envy those who chose the Trophy for this race. I was betting on the normal Megane's speed to be more advantageous than the Trophy's tyre life looking at the tracks this season, but that seems not the case. I tried a one stop (8 laps M/S and 9 laps H) as I couldn't make the softs last more than 6 laps. First stint went well but I had no pace on the hards and went backwards from there. Should've did a two stopper but you live and learn I suppose.

Top16 movies come.
Annouced on Japanese movies (Nations/Manu) that different-tire strategy, like RH on front and RM on rear at start, satisfies mandatory-tire rule on current GTS is bug and it will fix on later update.

I'm pleased to hear that. I know it was the same for everyone so nobody got an unfair advantage, but it always felt a bit silly using mixed tyres. Patching this out should introduce more varied strategies so I'm all for it.

I disagree with this being treated as a "bug". If anything it creates another extra layer of element of strategy and choice. The lack of tuning is already severely handicapping certain cars as it is. The only tools we have currently to alter handling is brake balance and tyre mixing (and maybe controller steering sensitivity, though it's very minor). Oversteery cars like the 458 Gr.3 and R8 LMS handles great if you put harder tyres up front, and conversely FF Gr.4 can be competitive an extra lap or two if you put harder tyres rear. IRL no sane mechanic would run +0.60 rear toe on FF cars, but we can't change this in GTS so changing tyres is the only tool we have.

Anyway, at the end of the day PD can do whatever they want. On the brightside I don't have to do as much testing with all the tyre permutations anymore

Always check the date when you get warmed up for a round of FIA

:dunce::dunce:

:D

I'm looking decent in the Porsche at Interlagos though!

I agree, it creates a lot more options as it is. For the next manufacturers, soft front and hard rear might be an option with some cars. With the Citroen, the handling is a bit sketchy at the rear, but with care it can lap within 0.3-0.4 of a full softs time. So it's an interesting dilemma - do I take the risk of initially sketchy handling that will probably improve as the fronts wear, with the reward of having a stint that is faster than full hards if only I can avoid binning it. If they make it so you have to use the same tyres front and rear, it will just make the whole thing less interesting, with less of a difference between strategies.
