Manufacturers
Interesting race this one. Nearly ballsed up qualifying by dying in the chicane just before my final flying lap. Had to pull over while my car repaired itself and then crossed the line with 1 second spare :scared: Qualified 11th.

The race was a seriously close mid-pack battle. At lap 13 I'm on the back of a group that is ultimately fighting for 4th place. It was that lap that I give the exit wall to the chicane a solid smack. It could have been a lot worse but it killed my momentum and meant I fell off the back of the group with no slipstream, so went on to finish 9th.

It was really close right up until the end though, finishing 7 seconds off the leader and only 4 seconds from the podium. It is fun when the racing is that close for 15 laps. I wasn't sure if I should give it another go, what with it being so close and I did make a few mistakes. I only really felt like I was hanging on though and the chicane feels like a a lottery that I essentially got away with in that one. Took the points and ran.

I wasn't the cause of this, but it frightened the life out of me. Snuck through unscathed.

Manufacturers: Made a decent lap on the start of qualy but then never found a car to draft. Tried it with an Audi only to find myself draft bumping it at the exit of the esses, kept pushing but at the second sector mark I was already 0.2 slower so pitted for fresh tires. It was just not gonna happen, first sector in purple by only a tenth, second sector clean but clipped the wall at the chicane. So started P13 betting on pace.
After the first couple of laps I was P9 due to people crashing into the chicane, two guys that fought hard into T1 with one of them going into the gravel and various situations of that kind. But then it was my turn to kiss the wall :banghead: After two laps clipping it at the chicane I was cruising comfortably in P11 until the guy behing me punted me while braking at T1. Saved it but lost a lot of speed, so he tries to get the inside before the right kink, I blocked and we went side by side at the kink. It was a hot headed move and I took a small trip through grass and gravel as the other guy took 5 seconds for pushing me wide. Back on track on P14 or so, lap 7. Really going mad, thought about quitting but didn´t wanted to lose too many DR points
It took a lap to calm down, some cars pitted and I stayed out until lap 8 as I had planed. Thankfully, after going for fresh tires I was released in front of that guys, so great job by the AMG team guys
Had 5 laps or so battling for P11 with a Hyundai, we overtake each other almost every lap until entering last lap I go for a gap in the last corner. Took the inside, both cars turn right without contact but touch on the exit as we are throttling it out. The Hyundai goes to the grass and I escape without penalty, still feel sorry for that as it was a really good battle.

All in all, another P11 for me. Good points, still P8 on CSA Mercedes and P55 in the region rank. The good news is I already have 5 races with points, gonna have to push as hard as I can for the next races to improve my point, but it´s pretty much risk free as if I 🤬 it up it just doesn´t count

I had a great race as it turns out. As matching started I was door number 20 was expecting a tough race. I'm currently on DS4 as I don't have my wheel at the moment so this was always going to be a tough race, especially considering the best time I'd managed to set in practice was a 1:47:600. I love the McLaren's but I really don't think the BoP works in their favour at all.

Qualifying was a bit of a mess, a few crashes in front of me meant I never really got a perfect lap so only managed a 1:49:XX which put me 19th. This was going to be rather tough... My goal was a top 10 finish but considering the competition and the handicap I had I would have been happy with a top 15 place.

After the first few laps of attrition I managed to make my way up to 15th and had a really good battle with a couple of Aston's for 6 or so laps, really close but clean, courteous racing. After the pit stops I'd managed to get up to 10th and due to my tyre strategy I had fresher tyres for the second stint so was able to close in on a few places.

On lap 14 I found myself catching the SLS AMG in front of me but whilst catching was one thing, passing him was going to be a different matter. Towards the end of the lap as we came out of the chicane I just about managed to maintain the draft and was making progress when another SLS was slow moving in front and managed to block the guy I was following. This had big crash written all over it so I just rolled off the throttle when suddenly they both opened the gap just enough for me to squeeze through cleanly.

The final lap ended up being very careful as both SLS's were keeping me honest and I don't think I could have survived a second lap. Finished in 7th place which was I think was a great result considering the uphill battle that I had.

Anyway, check out the video of the moment I got my lucky break... it was a close call but right place, right time!

You can't blame the car for that one, the Gr.4 650S is pretty OP. I tested almost all the MR and FR Gr.4 cars at this track before choosing Citroen, and the 650S is one of the absolute best cars for it. The main reason I chose Citroen was because it looked much easier to get top 10 for Citroen than McLaren and the other top performing cars, due to who else had picked each manufacturer.

Interesting - Perhaps I just don't gel with it. I love the way it handles but I just can't seem to get the lap times out of it that I can from other cars. Forced into it for Manufacturers as I signed with McLaren for this season.

Nations:

The thing to say about nations is that we must listen to the signs universe sends us, i had a bad feeling about this race but in my thoughs i was convinced that i was special cause i tend to make clean races and most time i can avoid or at least mitigate the bad luck i have during races.

The first sign was the bad feeling knowing how this combo could end up in disgrace, then in the first round of the day i got DC had a decent qualy, p3 but i got DC in the loading to the race it self.
I could read that has a second sign but no so i registered for second round, couldn´t do a decent qualy lap cause of traffic but manage to take p5 witch i thought was not that bad.
So i had a plan that was try to survive the first corner and probably people behind could lose enough time to give me a gap to survive t2 and after that probably if i concentrate and make few errors the race was done.

Pretty simple but well..., i manage to survive t1 and could even overtake to take 4th place cause he over reved at race launch and losed time, after i was side by side with a french guy when we arrive at t2, pretty clean both of us so far i was thinking that the race was done but o boy lolol, in t2 the french took the inside i gave him space but 2 missiles came from behind and hited me in the back the french guy survived by a nidle but i was smashed buy 2 tomahawks that totally missed their braking points.
Was sent to the back of the pack like p15 i think probably the other 5 "died" in t1, i spined cause of the brutal double hit but didn´t gave up on that instant, but for me was a short race cause i exit race in tunel section when in traffic had to avoid a slow pack of guys and took a penalty cause i hited the wall. Not worth it and had more impotant things to do like dinner XD.

Manufacturer:

I don´t tend to enter in more then one round unless i get a DC or if i really have bad luck so i did 2 entrances.

First race i qualy 2nd but the race itself looked more like a daily race everyone just rushing and diving in the first 2 laps i could avoid major incidents at cost of losing positions at the end of lap 2 i was already in p7 and in the hairpin before chicane of dead a diver punted me making spin and hit the wall and whent right straight to last, after that was a recover race managed to end in p8.

Did a second try cause i knew i could do better if i had luck with the lobby, and i had luck in the race but not in qualy.
On my flying lap i was tooking almost 1sec to my last best lap and a guy in dead chicane crashed and stayed in the racing line ditacting my end of qualification whit the crap lap time i had still was enough to start from p8..., that was the position i ended up in previous race.
The race itself was a blast, this time all people in front where very fast and clean i managed to finish in p3 and fought half of the race with a spanish guy but in a very polite way whitout dirty moves and not losing much time, if wasn´t the block made my p1 probably we could end better, this race made up the night and all the crap from previous races was forgoten.

Race review of round 5 in the manufactuers at Dragon Trail

A some what eventful race and worth watching if only for the mother of all crashes at the chicane of death.

Enjoy

I don't get it. I enter the Nations race as an AS driver and am assigned door #16. I qualify 16th, finish in 12th, with a clean race bonus, and best result of my season so far.

Check my stats on Kudosprime after the race to see I am now a BS driver and lost 2,100 DR points in that one race! Seems fair.

You lose an additional 1500 DR when you go down a rank. You also gain a bonus 1500 DR when you increase a rank.

Its completely conceivable to lose DR when finishing 12th depending on the DR of the people who finished ahead of you. So you were likely very close to the 30000 DR cutover between A and B before the race and lost some DR that put you back into B, and were also deducted the additional 1500 for going down a rank.

Unfortunately this all sounds about right. Where you qualify and clean race bonuses don't factor into DR.

Pick up some strong results and you'll be back up to A in no time 👍

Yes, I was just over the 30,000 threshold at the start. I didn't know about the additional 1,500 deduction/addition for changing DR levels. Insult to injury in this case, I guess.

Not overly concerned, just thought it was a bit harsh to have a relatively decent race and lose so much. I probably belong in BS, if I'm being honest, despite maintaining an A rating for over a year.

A look at tomorrows upcoming manufactuers race.

Lots of strategy to untangle in this one and quite a few viable options. Hopefully some useful info in there

Our little highlight video from Team Phoenix eSports, our WT finalists decided to try something a little different in the top 16 for nations.

Gr. 4 AGAIN :banghead:. And Monza without chicane. I'm not even going to bother with this one with the WRX.

Yeah I also drive for Subaru and I’m debating skipping this round, I clocked myself 8 MPH slower by the first braking point.

A rarity. Both of my Top 16 races were fun and exciting.

Nations had two separate races, one for everyone in X-Bows and the top guys in... trucks. Not making that up! Anyways, I gambled on a mixed tire strategy and I put myself in a position to win. Fireworks went off on the last lap.

Had no chance in Manu with so many MR cars and my terrible front tire wear. Could not break away from a pack and so we raced each other pretty hard. Got a much better result last slot but really enjoyed the battling in T16. Hopefully gets coverage in the official video.

Doing some practice for this Saturday's races and here's how things look going in:

Nations: The two cars I had in mind to use for the race was the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept and the Mercedes AMG GT3 (The popular choice from the Interlagos race). Reason being because in a ironic twist, the Supra appears to be the popular choice for this race so I wanted to see how it feels around the track and if the AMG was still a viable option. The Results:

-GR Supra Racing Concept: Very comfortable and consistant around here, Tire wear was not at all jarring and while their was grip loss, it was predictable enough that I could adjust to compensate for it. Good for ten laps on Hards before going in for Mediums, feel like I potentially have a shot for a decent finish.

-Mercedes AMG GT3: Overwhelmingly stiff. Car just feels extremely difficult to get around the track and seemingly understeering everywhere. Just could not get as solid a run out of it as I could the Supra and it only got worse as the tires wore on, not a wise choice this week.

So its the Supra for tomarrow night.

Manufacturers: Looking to be a 2 stopper for the Lexus. Only good for 6 laps on the Mediums so its the only way I can make the tires work. With me electing not to qualify (and seeing that work to perfection in the Final Manufacterers race last season), Hoping for more of the same.

Nations.

Qualified 2nd with a 34.669. Finished 2nd. Held pole until the last few minutes. Race time. Big Lex was hanging in there versus the Supra brigade. Stayed with the lead Supra for the first 5 laps. Pitted for RH, to combat the Supras behind, losing pace mid race. Last two laps, I think it was a Beetle that started to catch up. Finished about 3 seconds behind me. I enjoyed the race.

Picked up two track limit penalties in Manufacturers which wrecked my race. Recovered to P5 which was better than it could have been.

As a side note there was a lot of dive bombing and pushing to pass which was not great. The race ends on lap 15, not on lap 2.

I had sent pantherjag a PM saying I thought the Citroen would be terrible for this race, and I wasn't going to do it. I'd tried the McLaren and Jag in free practice and gone 0.7 and 0.4 quicker with them than the Citroen, so I thought it was hopeless. But, he said, fuel and tyres are going to come into it. I'd tested fuel use at Dragon Trail Seaside, and from that, it looked like most cars have very little trouble with 3x, but it seems Monza uses more fuel than DTS, and fuel came into it a lot more than I expected. I did some test 15 lap TTs with the McLaren and Citroen, and it turned out there was actually nothing in it for total race time, less than 1 second difference between the two.

So, as I didn't need to spend time learning the track, I thought I might as well do the race. I qualified 5th, which TBH was better than I was expecting given how much faster the Jag and McLaren had been in free practice. On the first turn of lap 1, 2 cars ran wide on the cold tyres, up to 3rd. A bit of messiness between the chicane and Ascari meant I came perilously close to losing the slipstream to the first 2 cars, but I got the gap down to 0.5 seconds for the start of the main straight on lap 2, and passed both cars into the chicane! That might sound like a divebomb, but I was fully alongside the front car at the point of turn in, and hadn't outbraked myself, I took my normal path through the chicane, so I'm rating it as a great move. From that point on, I slowly opened up a gap, breaking the slipstream to the cars behind. I wasn't sure what tyres everyone was using, as I had started on the softs, so it was still possible someone behind was on mediums, and would challenge for the win at the end of the race, but when everyone had pitted, it looked like all the other contenders had also started on softs. I held my nerve and the gap to bring home my highest DR win and best points to date.

I've just done the Monza race and got punted at first corner putting me down to the back of the pack. Worked my way up a few places, punted again - totally on purpose the guy behind not braking for the chicane. Then saw engine damage for the first time ever and half a lap or so of an almost undriveable car.

I'm going to make a second attempt at 21:00 but how some of these drivers are SR: S drivers is beyond me. Utterly shocking driving by at least a third of the field.

What DR are you at? You get a lot of "incompetence punting" at lower DRs where people, for example, don't correctly account for:
- extra speed due to slipstream
- a less grippy tyre compound
- worn tyres
- full fuel
compared to free practice.

I'm a 15k B (so lower mid level B) and 99 point SR: S. I get that there are incompetence punts but in a couple of cases during that race they were just full on violent, no intention of slowing at all.

It's fine, two more races tonight to compete.

After picking up a cold and sitting out Wednesday's rounds, I have decided to do the duo again after a couple of encouraging practice runs this afternoon. First up is my report from the 17:00 Nations.

Went with the GT-R again after reading the top 10 rankings and on the back of my previous performance in it. Felt that the car was noticeably easier to drive in lobby conditions than in FP. Qualified 5th in a lobby shared with @Lost Sheltie (best lap: 1:33.486), started on the Medium/Hard mix in order to take advantage of the softer full set in the later half. Quickly found myself battling with a couple of Supras while trying to manage tyres, fuel and oversteer, but thankfully kept it clean and relatively incident-free. Lunged down the inside of one of the Supras at the end of Lap 2, and gained enough pace by the half-way mark to catch up with a train of cars fighting for 3rd. Pitted for full Mediums on Lap 8 and put myself back into the Supra sandwich, setting a fastest lap of 1:33.310 in the process. On Lap 13, the Portuguese Supra in front runs onto the grass before the final corner; I initially pass him after we criss-cross on the exit, but run wide on the exit of the second high-speed left, relinquishing position and valuable time to the French Supra following us. There was a brief moment on the final lap where just as I was braking early for Turn 1, the French Supra accidentally ran into the back of me and lost time (an incident which we both apologised for afterwards). Despite this, he still had a much better line through the corner and swept past on the inside, allowing him to fight the Portuguese Supra right to the end. Both made contact at the final hairpin, but despite my best attempt to capitalise on their tussle, there wasn't enough room for me to make another pass on the inside before the line.

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20191207174610.png

Still, I couldn't be any happier with 6th place and 207 points. The GT-R felt settled and razor sharp throughout and had more than enough straight-line pace to keep up with the ostensibly superior Supra. While there were a few wild moments, especially on the Medium/Hard mix, I had a lot of fun with this combo, and hope to make more use of the GT-R in future races. Congratulations to Lost Sheltie on his 2nd place in the Beetle, too!

Will be entering Manufacturers at 21:00. While @breeminator initially reckoned that the Citroen wouldn't be well suited to Monza, his report and a few convincing test lobbies at my end have left me fairly optimistic with what's to come...

Did the 21:00 race, far better, finished 9th after qualifying 18th thanks to a minor penalty voiding my best lap...

However, had a really good battle with a Norwegian Cayman, he finished ahead of me but ended up with a 20 second penalty.. can’t quite work out how because I followed him for three laps at the end and he didn’t put a wheel out of place?

Has anyone else seen this?

You get a 20 second penalty if you don't use all the required tyre compounds.

First fast right turn 1 monza no chicane + cold tyres + dirty air , direct in the sand. Beware.
