So is cheating the best strategy in the nations today? The pit loss time is much less than at Laguna. I’ve be practicing a 2 stop which seems to go ok.

In Oceania, the person who was 75th in region, with DR 35000, got into the race.

I know it is only an exhibition season now, but it really doesn't reflect well on the entire region.

There should be incentive for the best drivers to compete and enter the race, but at the same time you don't want Superstars races having a disproportionate effect on the final championship standings (like they did last year).

I haven't tested but I would have thought that like said above by others its only really Laguna Seca with the large time lost in the pits that makes it possible. I certainly hope its not an option for either Nations or Manufacturer. I didn't see it as cheating because IRL racing teams will take advantage of anything whether sporting or not to win so I saw it as just another strategy option but I think it did ruin what could have been an interesting race though different strategies.

I'm so confused as to why they didn't make it a bonus points for the SS race. Surely they would have known this was what would happen?
 
Nations is a very interesting race strategy wise. Not so much the race itself because I find the field tends to spread out quite a lot over 25 laps. Nobody did the loophole strat in my room (Oceania first slot top split). I'd say 75% did 3 stints and the rest 4 stints (double on softs). There are a lot of possible strategies here, but most of the front runners tend to go very long (10+ laps) on softs. The key is WHEN to go on the softs, because if you time it right with low fuel and clean air you can gain lots of time.

On the other hand, I got another silly penalty for being the outside car in a divebomb. What the hell, did PD sneak in a stealth update to the penalty system again? :odd:

i used the 8/7 soft strategy and it brought me from 17th to 5th. I do think it was the best strategy for that race.

I went from 15th to 7th with a normal strat, and another car went from 13th to 5th also with 1H/7M/7S. It's possible to still climb lots of places normally, though probably not as good as the loophole strategy. As I said though, once everyone knows about it, it becomes the defacto strategy and everyone is racing on equal grounds again. Basically you just offset everyone's race time by 20 seconds :lol:

I also disconnected from all 3 FIA races I entered - twice when matchmaking started, and once on the starting grid (for the Superstars race). Not sure what is going on, as I had a wired connection to the PS4, reset modem, cleared game cache. Had no problems entering a Daily race in-between though.

Have you tried the following things?
-Setting static IP for PS4
-Put your PS4 in DMZ in router settings
-Port Forward the relevant ports (https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps4/settings/nw_test.html)
-If all else fails, worth calling your ISP to make sure you're opted out of CG NAT. This is what did the trick for me.

I know I sound like a broken record but if the points system actually was based just solely on the strength of lobby it would be perfect. Top 16 drivers would/should have a higher average DR than any 20 drivers. Plus last would get you more points than coming last in a 20 room lobby.

I know that every race driver and team is looking for loopholes to exploit, it’s the nature of motorsports. But IRL if you didn’t run the mandatory tyre in a race, you would be disqualified not given a time penalty. I hope PD do something about this in the next update.

Thanks - I will try all of these tomorrow and hopefully I won't get booted from Manufacturers and Top 16 as well. Not expecting miracles for that race either way.

You're right, but for Oceania only 10/16 drivers in that Superstars race had DR of over 50000 - that would be a low scoring race regardless of whether the points were based on the total DR of the room, or the average of DR. Honestly it is disheartening. There are great drivers in this region but hardly any do Nations Cup regularly.

Even Round 1 of Nations Cup this season was worth less than 290 points (before PD announced that it was an exhibition season). As opposed to Manufacturers Round 1 which was worth 354 points.

I also has an issue at the start, think it was car number 12 that stalled and we all stopped behind it costing us all a lot of seconds. never have seen that before. So by the time i crossed the starting line i was already way behind the rest of the cars. At that moment i decided the do this 8/7 strategy. I am pretty sure a driver of my limited capabilities would not have gained so many places using the required tyre strategy.

But the penalty isn't DQ so that isn't relevant, if the rule IRL was 20 seconds penalty and it was faster to take the penalty do you think a team wouldn't exploit it? Teams always look for "Grey" areas to exploit and will use it until banned or made unfeasible.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say it's not. It's not far off though! Even a two stopper on softs vs a S-S-M-H can almost pull back the time on the final stint alone - the change to hards really hurts (about 12s I think for just the one lap). But doing it 'legit' is quicker in my opinion than absorbing the 20s penalty

Start with full tanks and most will use fuel map 1, could probably get away with map 2 in the twisty bits to save a couple of laps worth but it's not something I'm going to entertain

I practiced a bit on the track today and this lightweight car combine with fast-paced track like this is a crazy combo. I like that they choose 7am time of day setting - so bored of Daily races having only daytime.

One more thing I forgot to ask. When I go into the pits and refuel my car, it shows for how many laps will I last for. Doest it count according to my current power/lean setting?

Yes it does all that. It'll calculate how many laps worth it's putting in based on how much you've been using and it'll put a marker above the level of fuel it thinks you need to get to the end. So if you've been saving all race and in a slipstream, if you refuel exactly to the marker and emerge in clean air you might be a bit short on fuel. For this race it's around 6% of fuel for a hot lap, probably just under. I tend to fuel to just over the marker, shouldn't have to worry about it then until the last lap or two - if at all
 
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the corner after the second timing split? The glare from the sun is so bad I can't see the road.
 
My first FIA race since round 1 @Maggiore. This red bull really seems good on its tyres so should be able to go pretty far on the soft tyres.

Yes but I found that if I just focus on that corner after the right hander at the bottom of the hill, when I just start to make it out is pretty good timing to start to brake and turn.
 
What's the total race time, from close of entry period to chequered flag today? I need to work out if I have enough time to complete the 19:50 (BST) race as it's 10 minutes later due to the Top 16 race taking the 19:40 slot.
 
Well, today was one of those days... again! Was in first slot with @watto79 and @T_revisio

I've had some real pace warming up for this race (solid 17s on softs and high 17s/low 18s for my stint on mediums) and really fancied my chances. I'd been practising just pushing from the off for qualy, it always seemed to be the second flying lap that the tyres were at their best (or maybe I'd got my eye in!). In qualy practice I was a regular mid 1:17, sometimes down as low as a 17.3 but the first flying lap was always around 1:18. That happened, then on the second lap when I'm expecting a nice mid 1:17 I just got traffic everywhere, topped off by a German at the end of the lap who rather than let me through earlier - or put his foot down to stay out of my way - took a nice easy run into the final corner with me right behind him... ****!! I had the privilege of following him around the next lap. Qualy wrecked, down in 14th, so I'm starting on hards.

Start went pretty much as expected, chaotic. People should know by now to slow down a little earlier than normal, but they just ignore it. I got forced out wide and down to 19th, was 20th at the end of the first lap and got shot of my tyres for the next quickest compound. The name of the game now was to be out of sync with the stops, passing people as they pit and be very quick at the end.

Problem was, many others near the back had a similar idea so I never really got to stretch my legs how I know I can and when I did get a clear lap I never really put it together. In saying that, the race pace was still solid and I didn't make any shocking mistakes (just the one final corner penalty!). There was some great racing in the middle/latter stages, at one point five cars all trying to overtake each other around the hairpin at the bottom of the hill and for the most part it was very clean, just a couple who were taking exception to being overtaken so I was very happy when a Spaniard who pushed me wide at the left hander after the hairpin picked up a 4s penalty for more nefarious activity. Not that he went down without a fight, as he did everything to stop a Brit overtaking him before serving his penalty, with me overtaking the said Brit as he pitted for hards (would have had him anyway!).

So it started crap, went crapper, and gradually warmed up from there. I recovered from qualifying and a bad first lap to finish 7th. Not had the best of luck this exhibition season if I'm honest, especially in qualifying, but then I'm not an exhibitionist!



I will sort out some highlights of the race because there was some genuinely good stuff, just a shame I wasn't where I felt I should be! It should also be said that a longer race just works a treat

On to the next season!

One day I will have to accept that my brain can't handle the grip of cars like the Junior, but until then, I am so ready to be perpetually lower-mid pack today.

There's also a fun little subplot as to whether BT is on my side tonight, regarding streaming and my (usually very good) internet.

Well that was painful... Down to 10th off of an inexplicable wheelie with four laps left, climbed back to fourth, then the third place driver got a poor run out of the final turn. He then put me into the grass, and I spun into the pits. :(

Ultimately finished P8. Will post the last few laps for all to see at some point... :lol:

I'll also be streaming my second and last attempt:
