What a horrible race that was. Finger hovered over quit at one point but decided to prolong the agony and carry on.

The M6 is soo slow on the straights and just horrible to drive around here. Just about getting up to 171mph. Slower than the Z4! Qualified 7th and was up to 6th by the straight but for some reason a GTR in front decided to be an idiot and fight when I made a move on him, causing us both to slide wide and pick up penalties and get dragged into the chasing pack which ended up like bumper cars. Started falling further and further back and then got punted off and was 18th on lap 5. Was sooo close to quitting. Made a few places back with people making mistakes and pit stops. Not doing that again.

What was your SR before? And did you get any SR downs in the race? If you got some SR downs plus any track limits penalties that prevented you from getting clean sectors to make up for them, it's pretty easy to get negative SR.
I was Sr A

To add to the bump drafting topic, I got a 1s penalty at Tokyo the other day for that. I was very surprised as well and I don't know exactly what triggered it but I guess the speed difference was maybe too big in that case (just did it cause I was in the 4C haha)

Nations went weird. Got a penalty on each of the first two laps, and forgot my tire strategy, so I think I ended up going 7M/3S, when I think I wanted to go 6M/4S. Ultimately, my results were Q13/P8, with two positions being gained from a couple knuckleheads gaining penalties and being forced to slow down in the penalty zone before the hairpin, and another somehow being gained when crossing the finish - somebody must’ve forgotten to change tires. Eh, I’ll take it, considering that I gained 88 points, and I’m now 7th in my state as a result. I think I could’ve done better if I tried the 2220 entry that would’ve been after the 2100 entry I took, but I was a bit tired, and wasn’t too interested in risking a worse result. Especially seeing how many people screwed up with T1.

Also, my time was usually about 2:05 in the 4C, but I saw a 4C in the top ten free practice times with a time of 2:00.xx, so I’m wondering if my time was relatively normal.

That was Lester in the Alfa with the top 10 time, he’s a World Tour Alien, he even got the Alfa into the top 10 at Le Mans for a bit. I wouldn’t worry too much about being off of his times a bit. :)

Edit: Never mind, you said Nations, I was thinking Manu.

20th to 9th in Manufacturers this afternoon - think I've found the only track where me and the vette work together well!

Some very nice gentleman parked his RSR in the middle of the final chicane on the start of my quali lap so had to take evasive action and it went downhill from there - but in the race the no stop strategy worked a treat (even if I nearly had to get out and push at the end!).

Will be coming back for another go later - my 4:01 in free practice would have been good enough for 3rd on the grid in my B/S race so fingers crossed for next time.

And please PD next time we do le mans can we have a late evening/early morning setting... one of my all time best memories is sitting at mulsanne corner with my dad at 5am just watching the glowing brake disks and listening to the V8's roar and 12's scream past. Chills!

Hooray Im in a lobby with only one B driver, points for the win are 24:D at least im on pole... Wonder how long...
I win but not happy, 2nd was 19s away... Sr now B... How to get it quickly to S? Any ideas? Now I try daily C, and stay out of trouble, but CRB is worth 7sr?

I just realised if I join C, theres no yime for another Manu slot:/

Thankfully it isn't a Gr. 4 race! The Gr. 3 car was also surprisingly good at Red Bull Ring, so I'm hoping this means I can have another high-scoring round today.

I made a mess of the RBR race so the less said about that the better..... but yeah for this week I'd 10000% recommend running a no-stop (remember to change tires after quali!!) and just be careful on fuel saving, you can keep the fuel map on 1 but you'll have to short shift all race and it might get tight on the final lap.

You're actually supposed to short-shift the Gr.3 Corvette (around when the bar is 3/4 red) because the power drops off as you get closer to the redline. Unless you meant short-shifting even more than this, because I wasn't even trying to save fuel in any way and still easily got to the end of my practice race runs with plenty of fuel left.

Attempt 2: All over the place at the hairpin, end up starting 17th. Go for the pit stop again and finish 4th for slightly fewer points than 2nd gave me the last time. I'm still tempted to go again because I feel as if I can win this race, even as my DR goes up.

You're a smoother driver than me then  I just meant at that 3/4 limit and you'll be fine

You know when you spend two laps of Le Mans carefully following a car, drafting, giving room at the chicanes, and then, at Indianapolis, he moves across into your path while you're right at the edge of the track, stamps on the brakes 50 feet early, gets hit because you can't avoid him, gets a 1s penalty and then messages you afterwards to call you dirty?

That.

Im not sure if i should even attempt this race in the BMW Z4, it's a bit of a slow poke on the straights.

Z4 Squad reporting for duty.

I'm going to race tonight. i did two practice races and the Z4 isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be as long as you stay in the draft. Once you lose the draft, you're toast. Qualify on mediums, no stop on hards, then don't get any penalties and you're result should be okay. Good luck!

Pretty happy with the result in the end. After a scrappy first lap, ended up being a really good race between 2 of us.

Started 2nd but got pushed out wide on the first few corners and fell back to 5th. Front 3 cars broke the tow and disappeared leaving a Corvette and myself who had also put a huge gap between us and the chasing pack. I got past into 4th and We spent the whole race after that as draft buddies. Last lap, guy in 3rd pitted so we moved up a position and finished 3rd

I did the Manufacter race with my beloved 919. After a disastrous qualy, where another guy, instead of takes advantage of the drafting in the main straight he fights with me and another guy in every turn, punting me at Indianapolis destroying my lap, so I qualyfied 17th out of 18th, nice.

My strategy was simple, Hard Tyres, no pit and flatout until the end. Well, the race started and in the Ford Chicane, two guys spin out, well 2p gained. After the first lap I overtook a few more drivers because of spins, draft, penalties, etc. until I reach p12. From here to lap 5, I was in a group with other two drivers, one porsches and a toyota battling, really cleanly between us until in lap 5 I miss the brake point in the second chicane in Mulsanne and got a penalty. The guys took the advantage and I thought that was the end of the race but surprisingly, in lap 6 everyone pitted to change from Medium to Hard tyres, I overtook everyone and take the 7p till the end of the race. A race that looks really bad ended being a nice race and a nice result.

In this race with Hard tyre and taking all the draft from other cars, there is no difference between tyres, if your rival goes above 1.5s and you lose the draft, you are *****ed, really, no matter what tyre you use, they're going to be faster than you all around the circuit.

Went to Le Mans knowing that the Ford had plenty of pace on the straights, but not knowing whether slipstream, braking or track limits would count against me as they have quite a few times before.

15:00 Manufacturers
Met my French teammate again along with Lucas Ordonez (Mazda), the Belgian 'wi-fi password guy' (Alfa) and a few other familiar faces. Qualifying was super-straightforward; was able to get clear air and a penalty-free lap despite a few errors and the sight of a McLaren 650S breathing down my bumper. Clocked a 3:57.856 on Mediums, though this was only enough for 12th with the slipstream trains developing further behind. French teammate started 6th with a 3:56.799, which was just under a tenth up on the best I did in practice lobbies.

During said lobbies and while reading the FIA thread this morning, I learnt that the no-stop strategy would be faster than the one-stop (6M-1H) I did all of my test races on. Must admit that I felt apprehensive about how the GT would fare without the softer compound, but a final test session minutes before the 15:00 convinced me that it could manage with a gentler touch.

Opening lap wasn't the best; missed my braking point at the first Mulsanne chicane and dropped to 15th when Ordonez got a move sown up on entry into the Porsche Curves. Have to admit that I felt exasperated with how things initially panned out, but soon got back on Ordonez when he picked up a couple of penalties. Things went quiet for a bit until a Porsche dropped back from the group battling for 9th, which allowed me a chance to catch his slipstream and surge past on the run to Indianapolis. This set up a fairly close battle between us as he passes back out of the Ford chicanes, then I ride the slipstream again down Mulsanne Straight. Had a few moments where the Porsche lightly bump-drafted me in his tow, but nothing major as we hunt down the 9th-place party.

Going too deep through the Esses allows the Porsche to snatch 12th again, but once more the GT LM makes the most of slipstream to get back in front through Mulsanne. As I braked for the first chicane, the Porsche brakes later and gives me a light bump through the apex (though I still apologised in chat in case he believed I blocked him); he then picks up a 0.5-second penalty for going beyond the white line on exit. Another light bump; an attempted lunge at Indianapolis, but no invitation for him to get by before the Arnage penalty zone. The Ford seemed to feel better the further the race went on, especially when on Lap 6 I managed to pick up the slipstream of a now four-car train for 8th place. A Mercedes goes off at the second Mulsanne chicane, promoting me to 11th as the Porsche again starts putting on the pressure. At Mulsanne corner, he goes too deep into the apex and spins out, leaving me to witness a McLaren, Honda and Subaru going three-wide into Indianapolis. Let's put it one way, it didn't end well for the Scoobie…

...and it almost didn't end well for me. In my excitement of breaking into the top 10, I forgot to downshift to 1st through Arnage, allowing a second Porsche to jump through on the inside. Up until that point, I had no idea how well the no-stop would work and what sort of advantage it would give me, since the only hint GT Sport gives of any tyre/fuel strategies during race conditions is through the HUD. And it was while following the Porsche through the Karting Essess that I got the hint. Two yellow counters, then three, then none. Surely this is it? Then, with a 0.5-second penalty slapped above his roof, the Porsche dives sharply into pit road. The road is clear... and through Dunlop Curve I find myself in 9th!

But it isn't quite done yet. The Belgian password guy slots into 8th following his stint on Mediums, and the combined effects of slipstream and the Ford's power reserves do their magic. It takes some time, but eventually I get around the outside of him through the Indianapolis straights after he taps the Russian Honda wide at the Mulsanne curve. Could the Ford have challenged the McLaren/Honda duo for 6th? Probably, but even with a good run through the final chicanes I wasn't quite close enough. 8th place and 194 points will have to do for this encounter.

A good way to celebrate my first anniversary on GTPlanet, I think. My main aim for this race was to make it through consistently and without picking up a track limits penalty along the way; while I could've done without making the few driving errors I made, I think I accomplished that quite well. Might have done even better if I hadn't decided to jump to the head of the first slipstreaming train in qualifying, but at least that was a clean run in itself and the no-stop worked out well in the end. And congratulations to my French teammate for finishing 2nd! Shows that no matter where we start, at least one GT LM can be guaranteed to challenge for Top 5 places at our level.

Holy bleep, was this ugly!

Slot 1:

'Highlights' (90 seconds):

No need for a report, that video sums it up! The Alfa just cut the corners at every opportunity and even turned left under braking at the first corner on Lap3!:banghead: P18 (promoted to P17) for just 23 pts.

Slot 2:

'Highlights' (90 seconds):

Changed to the Trophy for better control, and qualified with a time 16.5s better!

P13
to P10 to P20 by turn 1:censored:🤬🤬 Things didn't get any cleaner. P13 for 33 pts.

Slot 6:

Highlights (5 minutes):

P5 start, dive-bombed again but managed to maintain enough control (partly thanks to being forced into the side of another car!) to continue in P4. Lap 2, got rammed by some idiot when I was de-ghosting from a penalty. And who got penalised? Me! Another 1 second penalty!🤬
Things didn't get any cleaner, and by the end of the race I had dropped to their level and played them at their own game, which of course some complained about afterwards! Finished P10 (promoted to P8) for 45 pts. With my rating dropped to B/A, that was enough.

On to North America...

Slot 1:
1
Qually: You cock up your OUT LAP (with a 0.5s penalty to serve on your first hot lap) , so why not ruin BOTH of the hot laps for the car behind you?:dunce:🤬 He even moved right in front of me in the penalty zone, presumably hoping I'd run into him as it ended.

Highlights (3 minutes):

A cautious start from P17 to a net position of P16 after turn 1, surrendering places I'd gained in exchange for staying on track. But then I was forced into the gravel from P11 to P20, and over 8 seconds off the back of the race! And contact continued, leaving me finishing in P15 until I was demoted for forgetting which tyres to put on at my stop, thanks to all the misbehaviour affecting my concentration. P17, 31 pts.

So, after getting my first 2 wins ever last week and several top 5s at Tsukuba my rating was up within 500 pts of C. Then I did Manu race in Tokyo with Mitsubishi, big mistake, lost over 1000 pts. After some bad other races back down to less than 1000 pts. The only way I'm going to get to C is to ignore races I have no real shot in. I think Mitsu at Le Sarthe is one of those races. Not enough speed. Anyone agree/disagree, got tips for me in building my rating up?

Slot 2:

Highlights (4 minutes):

P14, P10, P20 at Turn 1:censored: And the guy who did it bombing in from P19) got a whole 1s penalty. I then got rammed at Turn 1 on Lap 3, putting me P19 and last. I returned the compliment the next lap. Dirty tactics continued, and I was 'lucky' to finish P13 for 45 points.

Slot 3:

Highlights (4 minutes):

Started P7 and actually made it through Turn 1 in P3. Hallelujah! Avoided trouble, unlike the pole-sitter who was taken out at T1 by the P2 car. That allowed me to finish P2 for 89 pts, best of the season (any season since the points reshuffle in fact). CRB too

Slot 1:

One and done! Only a B/A race, thanks to last night's Nations races but I was content with the result.

Highlights (10 minutes):

Great qually in the Nissan had me starting P3 and into P2 before the first turn. From then on, it was mainly a case of holding off the P3 car and then I was able to jump the pole-sitting Merc when he struggled on his hard tyres after his pit stop. In fact, my only on-track overtake was that one right at the start! VICTORY! Ok, it was a B/A race, but my joint-highest points of the season. Only missed out on the CRB due to a slight corner cut on Lap 2, but it got me back to B/S. P1, 64 pts.

LeMans. What a lovely place to be. Legends raced here against each other and drama were written here. And now it gets abused being raced virtually by a idiot like me... Got two slots today.

Race 1: Qualifying today was fair, but with a lack of practice time I only was able to park the big BMW at P15. Well, race was ok, I drove it to P6 on Medium, then I went in at lap 6 for the obligatory hard tires. Was back at13th. 13th? What? Something must be wrong.., finished 13th, no penalties to the co-racers. Again I managed to loose my race at the pits, learned later that only hard is mandantory..... :banghead:

Race 2: Qualifying was again fair and managed to be P5. Race was first rounds pretty tough and got divebombed at Mulsanne, back to 12th. So the work began and I pushed hard. Last lap I was 3rd, 1st position loosed it in the last chicane (poor boy, he propably has eaten his DS4 afterwards) and I finished 2nd. Best result this season!

Seriously, it makes me angry when I’m very careful behind a racer for a few laps and then finally when they make a mistake something bad happens.
At Maggiore a while back I was just applying pressure to a guy for maybe three laps and finally I get a good run on his inside into the high bank right hander (final lap). The turns mine, I am cleanly ahead and inside before beginning to turn in, he lifted and then punched it, he tried to punt me. :(. Luckily I saw it coming last second and got on the brakes and had tcs on.
After the race he messaged me and said I had no moral compass...
After that I set my messages to friends only.
Nothing’s worse than driving well and clean and being patient only to have some jabroni behave like that...People sometimes don’t understand the effort some people are making to drive cleanly...
