My first race in DR A and it was the worst race I’ve had in memory. I was door number 14, qualified 12th. I got smashed off at turn 4 and then dropped to 17th. Race was full of barging and was horrible from start to finish. I lost control and accidentally hit someone so they brake checked me at turn 4. I got a 3 second penalty and he went off in to the barrier.

Just awful. 2 hours to wait for another one now!

Long and short of it, my qualifying is ruining everything. @ivann was in this race and did decidedly better than me!

Wanted to put a lap in in clean air then try for slipstream, was in clean air but two idiots fighting in qualy have an incident ahead, slow right down in the middle of the track and I can't avoid the Scirocco, 1s penalty to me. So I reset and just try to lap in clean air. Overdrive the car, 1:39.1 and 14th with under 0.8s separating the entire field.

Get divebombed into T1, he got his comeuppance later in the race, got a penalty for giving him the slightest of nudges under acceleration (we were BOTH accelerating!) on the approach to the first hairpin and subsequently lost a place to a Megane. This Megane I had a great fight with all race to be fair, he was benefitting from a BMW helping him down the straights though and could just keep me behind. BMW picks up a 1s penalty at the end of L9, I just wanted to be clean until the pen and we could both get past. Megane goes wide into T1, compromises both of us but I get a run coming out of the Senna S. BMW serves his penalty practically on the racing line, so much so that I'm partially on the grass when I start to brake, the car lurches left sending me into a dive inside the Megane, BMW unghosts, pushes me into the Megane who goes wide into T4 but the BMW gets himself a 3s penalty into the deal. I eased off up the hill to let the Megane back past while making sure I kept a Cayman that had been slowly gaining at bay.

Final lap and the BMW plays silly buggers swerving before serving his penalty, I have another run on the Megane and with no slipstream assistance this time he couldn't fight me off, I take T4 nicely, leave no opportunity for a cut back and bring it home for 11th, only 4s behind 4th but too much jostling early on, and it was very hard to overtake with everyone nose to tail, nigh on impossible to even pass a Megane!

Here's the really annoying bit. Race was won in 18:21, I've done that kind of time in all three lobbies I've done, usually in clean air and practically on auto pilot. The lap I did just before the race would have had me 5th on the grid and from there you can guarantee I'd have been in the mix at the front.

Really must sort out qualifying, but in a tow I usually pick the wrong person and without a tow I'm obviously putting myself at a massive disadvantage. I want another go because the race pace is there, but will have to leave it I think

Honestly wonder why I bother with these races sometimes. Joke of a race. Should have guessed it would be like this at Interlagos.

Was annoyed enough I only managed to qualify 15th. Probably my strongest track and felt good in practice so was hugely disappointed.

Race was going ok, had moved up to 13th by lap 3 and caught up to the pack in front. Then on lap 4 it just got stupid. Dives, punts, barges...I was smashed around like a pinball and ended the lap in 17th!!! After a couple more laps of chaos it calmed down and I was able to get some positions back. Then last corner had a chance to get 12th but as you can see, they weren’t going to let that happen! Back of my car was battered. Feel fed up with this game at the moment after this and the crap at Willow. :grumpy:

If I could ever get paired up with people on track at Tokyo who know what bump drafting and working together is, that'd be super. There's four of us squabbling over 5th and we're still making up time on the lead group. You work together, you don't try to go side by side through the chicane or start weaving on the straight to break slipstream on lap 4. Clowns, all.

@xxPinkyKissxx I've had similar at Fuji all week, some just don't accept that you have the slipstream and/or they need it more, so just push you out of the way, of course the penalty system never does anything about this.

Even when I moved over to the right at the beginning of the straight knowing cars in front would soon enough the entire slipstream train just weaves across the track not knowing or caring I was there already there.

If they sort the penalty system I'll run more of these races, right now there's little point unless I partake in the argy bargy pushing, otherwise they'll hit me and get me a penalty, just like what's been happening at Fuji all week.

:gtpflag:

Today was a good day.

I was able to take 2nd place and hold onto it until lap 6, when a mistake at Turn 2 drops me to 3rd. A misjudged braking point nearly resulted in me accidentally T-boning 2nd place at the final hairpin on the penultimate lap. The collision was averted when I collided with a barrel on the inside of the hairpin, knocking me away and saving me from a penalty at the cost of dropping to 4th. The slipstream allowed me to catch up and I get a lucky break at Turn 1; 3rd (developer136) had run wide and 2nd (crazy-20091025) took a penalty colliding with the barrier. I pursue crazy through the corners as developer dropped away and I retake 2nd as crazy serves his penalty. crazy falls off the podium as developer and I claim 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Credit where it was due to crazy; he started 8th and would have gotten a podium were it not for that mistake on the final lap.

Oh. God. Why.

I couldn't get a draft in quali without tangling with someone, and ended up 17th, with a masochistic Audi driver propping up the grid. I was able to keep it clean, but only by virtue of the Slophy living up to its reputation. To cap it all off, a possible 12th was on the cards as a Merc and a Lexus tangled at Juncao, but I just had to be overzealous at the exit and breach the track limits, resulting in a Cayman leapfrogging me for 14th after all was said and done. Bye-bye, 800DR. :grumpy:

I had another go at Interlagos following the disaster I had in the first slot. I got door number 18 which calmed my nerves a bit, and to my surprise I qualified 4th as the fastest Mercedes driver with a 1:39.595(ish). The Toyota 86 driver in 3rd place got a penalty on lap 2 and I went up to 3rd. I could have made a move on 2nd in the Atenza but it would have been a little risky. I ended up making a small mistake and lost the tow and then eventually lost my battles with the two drivers behind and had to settle for 5th place. The last corner kept letting me down and I was forever fighting people off in to the first corner after the home straight.

Still, a much, much better and cleaner race than I had earlier. Everyone was very respectful besides a tiny bump I got from the Mercedes that finished ahead of me.

Everyone settle on a FuguZ tune? I have one that feels and runs good, but Curious to see how different it might be?

You were in the same race as me when I got driven of on lap 2 after going from 16th to 11th. Got stuck at back with people who were just morons, particularly that Italian in the McLaren.

Didn't go again, group 4 at interlagos is never a strong combo for me somehow.

Did a Manu.... What a joke of a race. I have door number 1. Not good. Qualify as p5, ok I think.
Start goes, p6 makes a clean pass on me in T1 soI end up p6. Then they started fighting ahead, for two laps they went side by side while breaking up each others cars.
Then I finally get a clean pass. But by then p10 has dive-bombed his way up to me and dive-bomb me too in T1 then run me off in t2. I follow him for 1 1/2 lap before I can get a clean pass.
And then he dive-bomb me again from 1 1/2 second back. In T1 again.
But this time I won't take it and block him all the way to the penalty zone, where he falls back and I get a clean run to p5 finish.
I could certainly do better but I fear the next will be worse yet and I am pleased with my points. So one and done.

It was a horrible lobby, wasn't it? One of the most toxic races I've ever had on the game which was a shame since it was the highest ranked race I'd ever been part of. I caught up with the TT driver who bumped me off and he tried to do it again, and wouldn't let anyone past him. I couldn't wait for the race to finish.

Yup, Aston driver just drove me of the track at the last corner dropping me about 7 or 8 positions when the sensible thing would have been to wait and get me at T1 with there straight line speed advantage. Just feels like some people don't care when there at the back and just play bumper cars, that McLaren in particular was a complete joke. Shameful in a B/B lobby never mind an A/S one really.

Yeah the difference between qualifying 12th and 4th was night and day for me. People at the front of the grid don't seem to want to jeopardise their positions, but those in the midfield and towards the back take more risks and act the fool. It's why I prefer races with at least one pit stop as with the different strategies you can avoid some people, especially if you decide to stop earlier than the majority. I'm pleased to see the next round of FIA races will both require stops.

Agree there, definitely prefer races with a bit of strategy, gives you more oprtunities to do something and launch yourself up the order. Do better in those races aswell.

Did the Grubby Fugazi race earlier, don't know what possessed me because I don't like walls and road cars in the lower N ranges tend to be nudge and punt fests, but there I was qualifying mid pack, braking early so I can power through the corner exits but being bashed down to 19th out of 19, and then made back 11 places for an 8th place finish despite being out of slipstream range on the infinitely long straight every lap. That was a special achievement!

Next I'll be taking the tyre-eating Atenza round Interlagos for nothing more than shirts and giggles. It's not going to do well, is it? Not with my ham hands on the controller. Just gotta preserve SR for the next round.

Have to say that I really like how the Fugu drives with @Mistah_MCA's setup. Felt really composed while having plenty of top-end grunt for the straights and slipstream trains, and a lot better than the setup I tried to make from scratch in my initial FP trial.

So, to start today's proceedings off, I decided to give Nations a try to see if I could get the most out of his settings...

(Be warned, this is a very, very long post!)

14:00 Nations
First attempt was the 14:00, also featuring @T_revisio. Got stuck behind traffic on my first flyer (2:20.840), and had to abort my second when the Frenchman in front of me smacked the wall under the bridge. Problem was that while I had clean air, I was too far behind the pack of cars ahead to get a good slipstream. Thus, while I managed to improve my initial time with a 2:20.724, it was only good enough for 18th - 2.9 seconds off the polesitter!

Had a fairly decent first couple of laps, jumping to 14th while avoiding scraps, making a nice move on a German driver and taking advantage of others' penalties. German fought back by steamrolling his way up the inside of the final right-hander, but for a while was still in a good place and got into some fairly close battles. All progress undone by several wall collisions - the biggest earning me a 1.5-second penalty - eventually leading to me dropping to 19th and last by the final lap. Lost so much time at that point that I decided it wasn't worth fighting back and did a doughnut before the pit straight.

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200613144149.png

And I tell you now, I was kicking after that one. Mistah_MCA's wonderful setup squandered by traffic, lack of slipstream in qualifying and my own carelessness.

15:20 Manufacturers
Of course, Manufacturers remained my primary focus, but I went into the 15:20 rather unhappy with how the Mustang had felt in test lobbies. Indeed, I initially considered not joining at all after the disastrous 14:00 run, but eventually pressed on just to see if things would turn out differently.

@Lost Sheltie, T_revisio and my French teammate were present, but sadly there was to be no improvement. Was forced to abort my planned first lap after a yellow and blue BMW cut across my front bumper through Turn 15. There was contact; I turned below the white line and immediately returned to the lobby for a fresh run. Set a 1:40.050 followed by a tyre change and a 1:39.288, which left me starting 20th and last. The only consolation was that the gap between myself and the pole-sitting Mazda was just under 1.2 seconds, but this didn't help my already crestfallen mood.

Race started a bit better, though. Fought past a McLaren, Toyota and Lexus to get up to 17th by the end of Lap 2, but the Lexus wasn't having any of it, repeatedly trying to push and nudge his way back after an early penalty. Things came to a head on Lap 6 when I tried to line up a pass on the red GT-R going into Turn 8; the Lexus punts me forward, I end up clouting the GT-R into a half-spin before the pinball effect repeats the process again. Lost my entire momentum at that point, though the Toyota's lack of straight-line speed enabled the Mustang to get it easily down the pit straight.

Caught up with the bottom pack again, only to be collected by the GT-R as he runs wide and loses it at Mergulho. Thankfully I come through the incident fairly intact, but as I look back I notice that he has picked up a 2-second penalty purely for hitting my passenger-side door. Seeing that he was still at Juncao by the time I was approaching the line, I thought it was unfair to leave the GT-R behind, and that he was penalised for what was essentially a racing incident when the Lexus ruined both of our races without as much of a raised eyebrow. So, I pulled off at the Senna curves until the GT-R had passed, and chose to remain behind him to the flag. At some point, another GT-R left the race upon receiving a track limits penalty, putting us up to 18th and 19th respectively.

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200613160046.png

Have to say that the Mustang felt decent up until the incidents started occurring, but it was another case where my qualifying left a lot to be desired. My teammate's 10th-place finish proves that the Mustang can work well around Interlagos, but for whatever reason I just couldn't get a good feel at the time.

16:40 Nations

The outcome of the first two lobbies, while infuriating, gave me the motivation to try both rounds again. Probably because of the DR drop I had incurred, qualifying for the 16:40 was more promising. Four consistent mid-2:20s in slipstream and traffic, the best being a 2:20.403 set early into the session. Good enough for 9th on the grid right in front of T_revisio.

Thought there was a chance I could fight my way through the top-10, but started hitting the walls too often and had to give up two spots on the first lap - one to T_revisio, the other to a green German driver who as it turned out seemed hostile to the idea of me slipstreaming my way past. Watched him push a Swiss driver wide through the final turn, allowing me to retake 10th; then, the longer gearing of Mistah_MCA's tune gave me the legs to slipstream around the outside of the German into Turn 1.

Something I didn't realise until later was that the Swiss Fugu tapped the German as I tried to keep myself steady around the outside. What happens next is that the German ends up squeezing me into the wall... and I get a 1-second penalty for it! :ouch: In hindsight, this wasn't entirely the German's fault, but the very next lap he weaves across the straight trying to break the slipstream. I get round the outside like before; he in turn gets a bit of slipstream but I try and force him to go to the outside. Under braking he moves to the inside, slides and forces me into the wall again. I was aware that he was planning to pass anyway, so kept as far to the outside as possible, but apparently this wasn't enough to stop the contact and a second 1-second penalty being served my way. :ouch: Another experience of the system being out of order, but there you go. A lonely and still sloppy run to 11th followed.

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200613172206.png

To add further insult to injury, it was while looking through the lobby screen after the race that I learnt that the penalties amounted to a red SR 'S'.:irked: But still, a better run and a better points score. I was tempted to try the 19:20 slot, but decided against it as I'd rather hang on to 164 points than risk losing them through an even poorer finish.

20:40 Manufacturers
Last slot of the day turned out to be the best. Had the luxury of two Mustang teammates alongside Belgian 'wifi password' and was initially content with the 1:38.773 I set early into qualifying. But again, it couldn't translate into a decent grid slot, and a few issues - including being out of slipstream and one moment where my controller suddenly disconnected while coming out of Pinheirinho. Needless to say, that lap was the fastest I could get, which was still a respectable six-tenths off the South African GT-R on pole. Started 13th with my teammates in 9th and 14th. Had to feel sorry for 'wifipassword' starting dead last in the Alfa.

Initially followed a yellow Mercedes in a train led by the French Mustang. Things kicked off when a MYTEAM Ferrari went wide at both parts of the Senna curves while trying to pass a yellow Subaru; this allowed me and my Swiss teammate to pass him from both sides from Reta Oposta to Descida do Lago. On Lap 5, the Mercedes overshoots the Senna curves and rejoins right alongside the Mazda following behind me. Was incredibly lucky to avoid getting collected, and spent a good few laps pressuring said Honda for 11th. Towards the end, the same Subaru that was forced wide by the Ferrari earlier goes wide a second time, allowing us to catch up and form a frantic five-car battle. A Danish Citroen was making up ground along with the Ferrari, but I hung on as the Subaru picked up penalties and the Honda went wide at Descida do Lago.

Up into 10th I went, but the Honda fights back, running side-by side with me after the Mustang runs a little too wide out of Turn 7. Held off the Citroen with a good exit from Bico do Pato, then watched as the Honda slid under braking at Juncao. Squeezed back into 10th while just about avoiding contact, but not for long as the Citroen and Ferrari dive up the inside of the first Senna curve. At this point we were going three-wide through the complex, and ultimately I chose to give way so all four of us could survive in one piece (the Subaru, meanwhile, had gone off to Narnia and would go on to ruin a Scirocco's race). Surviving in one piece, as it would turn out, was easier said than done...

Under braking for Descida do Lago, I notice the Honda suddenly surge forwards in my rear-view mirror. Squealing tyres, a faint thud; what's going on? Turns out that he was completely unsighted to the Ferrari braking early ahead of him and had ducked to the infield grass to avoid him. Stayed wide as the Ferrari slowed down in unison, out of expectation that a pass was incoming… and watched as the Honda took the Citroen out on the apex. Just like that, we're back in 11th, and follow the Ferrari home without any further incident. Teammates finished 5th and 9th.

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200613212029.png

Won't lie in saying that these were among the most frustrating and confidence-knocking FIA races I've had this year. SR restored, thank goodness, but nearly 2,900 DR points lost through a mix of misfortune, wall scrapes, contact, penalties and me just not being fast enough when it counted. There were hopes of fighting from the back and challenging for top 10 positions, and at least Mistah_MCA's tune worked really well, but all the same I can only apologise to Mistah_MCA himself for not making the most of it. Really tough afternoon, but hopefully it won't be too long before I can bounce back.

Someone said that the FIA races were cleaner than the Dailies, so I gave this Sport mode matchmaking thing another go. The Toyota felt different in the race compared to practice, & I had to set TC to 2 to make it feel similar to TC 1. I don't usually use TC at all, but the Toyota was very loose on the rear end, & I didn't like the car much without it. Was just over 3 seconds off the number one guys in the world practice times, which was slightly disappointing as I'm usually between 1 to 2 seconds off the aliens. But, then again I've not played GT Sport anywhere near as much as the GT games on PS3 & I didn't know the track either, so it was to be expected. My best was a low 1:40.

Everyone else in the race was slower than me by 2 seconds plus, except the driver in P1 who was 1.5 seconds faster. It worked out well as I had a very lonely race, with no Punty McRammers to ruin my day! The room was full of them as I witnessed some truly incompetent maneuvers during the warm up, oh my days... I didn't get any penalties & my SR increased to A, for whatever it's worth.

Nation's Cup - Greddy Fugu Z - what an experience that was. Hate hitting the walls but pulled off a decent finish (I think around 11th-12th?). Running N300 cars is quite a challenge. Practiced, practiced, practiced, and practiced some more but when it came to race time everything went out the door - smacked the walls anyways. Very good race!

Manufacture's Cup - Well qualifying wasn't that good (10th), had 2 down SR checks (during qualifying) which set me off, had a quick comment in chat before the race to tell the driver to "stop the crap" and it seemed to work. We raced nearly the entire race swapping positions and we both ended up swapping positions (10th - 11th) in the end. Good race!

Now I practice my Huracan GR.3 for Sunday's night race on Nürburgring Nordschleife 24H.

Side Note: Before I started the series of races I told myself I was tired of trying to maintain a 99 SR and was willing to lose it to build my DR up. Well I survived racing fairly (in my humble opinion), SR didn't drop that much, didn't improve the DR but still ran a good race. Head held high - there is always next week.

Good luck to all, enjoying the racing.

Wow, Interlagos was a mess.

The only good thing about it was I got to race with @JEverettL. Despite some pretty good practice this morning, I qualy P10. Then the race starts. And I use that term loosely. Perhaps, it's best summed up in this little clip where you get to see both JEverettL and myself get punted off the track. (He's in the blue/white Toyota, Bishop_Jayel and I'm in the green Mazda, MonyB) It took me a while to find the best perspective of the mess. Turns out it was the guy the managed to punt me all the way off the track.

BTW, I didn't give you enough room going into T6 there. The bump's my fault, my bad.

Then just as I think I'm getting back into the race, this happens:

I somehow managed to finish something like P13. Don't ask me how. I guess the lucky thing about this Saturday schedule is that it gave me all this time to make the cut-up videos...

If you are into preserving SR then avoid Interlagos. The moron that plagued my last couple of races isnt exactly a great example to use, but he dropped from 98 SR to 50 with the one race of hell I saw him in. I only lost 21 so didnt think it was too bad considering that I earned 10 of that by getting a penalty turning into someone that i didnt realize had just gotten beside me. Bombers are a go at the Manu race for sure.

I'm glad I decided to do Nations, expected chaos and there was none. It was more fun than I thought and I couldn't pass up Tokyo at night after all. I qualified alone without draft and realise it's a disadvantage but I'm able to concentrate more without needing to be cautious of a car ahead. I set a 2:21.2 and that was good for 4th on the grid.

First turn was respectable, people were cautiously double braking while keeping aware of their surroundings which was a good sign of the race to come. I worked together with 2 others by exchanging places on the straight all the while keeping within drafting range instead of being at each other's throats. Whenever I've raced here before, people are usually fighting and defending positions as if their life were dependent so this was a nice change of pace.

I had a pretty consistent race and fortunately didn't trigger a wall penalty with a few light grazes here and there. Finished 5th for 103 points. Hopefully there's more races like this in the future.

I didn't feel too good about this race to start off with. Interlagos, despite the numerous times I've raced on it, is still a track I have a hard time getting a good lap time and racing line down on. So, going into the race, I was expecting to qualify in the mid-bottom of the pack and hope to fight up to the top 10 at least. In qualifying, this seemed to be manifesting. I tried to get some slipstream, but fell out of slipstream range, and on my first flying lap I had provisional pole, until after another 2 laps I was down to 11th. I went out again and managed to slot in perfectly behind another car for the slipstream all the way around and nabbed 5th place. I knew that this was going to be a defensive race all the way through so if people were looking to pass me, I wouldn't put up much of a struggle to avoid losing time.

Race start was luckily uneventful as we all filtered through the Senna esses, but the NSX ahead got a bad exit. They went for a very-late block that forced me to put two wheels on the grass, but I got the move done into T4. However, a mistake into T4 on Lap 2 meant I put two wheels on the astroturf, allowing them to get past me. An SLS AMG was hot on my tail and from previous races I knew they were fast, and i knew the SLS was a better car around here than the Cayman, so I decided I would let them by if they go for the pass. That happened on Lap 4 into T4. I didn't defend the inside and braked early to let them by, but their compromised run out of the exit meant they were slow, and I was all over their back bumper until Juncao. They had a bad exit out of the hairpin and I meant to back out at Juncao, but they braked early and turned into me. I thought I knocked them off track and felt bad so I let them by, allowing an Aston behind to pass as well. Even though I did shift early and lifted slightly, they would've gotten past me on the straight anyways because the Cayman can't defend. I then get passed by another NSX and lunged on by an STI, putting me into 9th place on Lap 5, and from being unsettled at the Senna esses an Aston in 10th was catching up.

Then the worst thing possible happened starting Lap 6: My wheel detached from the table it was clamped to. This caused me to miss my braking zone into the Senna esses and I got a 0.5s shortcut penalty for it. I only kept 9th place into T4 because the Aston behind me got punted by another Aston, and I was able to screw the wheel back on at the start of Lap 7 on the main straight. The damage was done though, and I just barely kept 9th place into T4 after serving my penalty. The Aston behind me eventually made the pass into the Senna esses on Lap 8, and the Cayman that was in 4th ended up behind us due to a mistake on their end. A gap then opened up to the rest of the runners behind, and the Aston and I closed up on the group containing 4th-7th at the end of the race. With another lap I may have been able to make a move, but I crossed the line in 9th.

I'm satisfied with the result because I was expecting worse. Watching the replay, I may have been able to keep up with the 4th-7th place group, but it would've been a defensive race for 11 straight laps, which I don't know if I would be able to pull off. 146 points is more points than I thought I would get, and while it's still 30-40 points off my highest scores, it's still a decent result that I'll take.

Ugh that 15:20 Manufacturers race was horrible. Messed up quali and ended up doing my best lap with no slipstream (was a solid lap though).

Then I made a mistake on cold tyres at the start which lost me a place, and then had a Portuguese driver bump and run me a couple of times (I did lunge him back so I am no angel but if someone pulls that sort of driving on me I do up the aggressiveness of my driving), but he did get a penalty the 2nd time so that cheered me up a bit (I watched the rest of his race in the replay and he ended up in so much trouble that he got a DR reset ). This left me a few seconds off the front 6 so I had to push.

It took a few laps to catch the leading pack, and I picked off a couple of places as they were making some aggressive moves on each other. This distanced us from the front 2, and when a Porsche decided he wanted by he gently nudged me out of the way and we were never going to catch up. Ended up in that midfield melee that seems to happen in these sorts of races, and could never escape. Think I got 8th.

I did like the race (Interlagos can be fun with the right drivers), but going by the way people were driving I decided that once was enough. It's nice that the Jag gr.4 is actually competitive now :)

Great seeing you in the lobby! I’ve gotta say, that wasn’t my best performance. Lol. I went wide on T1 and set myself up for a terrible run. Sorry about those door dings shortly before I spun out at T6. I got a bad case of tunnel vision.
