At round 15 of the Manufacturers Series, I had started 14th but finished 3rd. It is from this point forward, I shall only go to the MS for the remainder of the season. Also in this season, I've switched to Mazda, not Citroën.

Round 15 started in 4th. During the early half of the race the car didn't feel right to me and was getting a little loose causing me to lose a little bit of focus on braking and carrying momentum setting up for turn 4. Lap 6 got turned around by a car on the chicane and dropped to 9th, the extra tire wear didnt effect the ride that much and was able to find my rhythm on the next lap. Cars were pitting the next couple of laps so I stay with the RM tires til the end of lap 17 gaining back into the top 5 and finishing in P4.

Seeing the new BOP changes that Gr.3 Corvette going to be more of a pain to catch. Gr.4 NSX loses 31lbs of weight which is good so it wont bog as bad on uphill acceleration and lighter for high speed corner. We'll see how things go at Spa.

Given the straights on Spa, power cars will be more suited for this Manufacturers race, right? I'm wondering how competitive the Cayman will be around Spa since I'm going to be a little limited on testing time.

Yes and no. Straightaway speed is great, but those long corners are what are killing me in the Ferrari. Huge understeer. I’d go with the Cayman if I could.

...Sounds like a plan! Looking forward to this race, I like the track, and if the Porsche is up to it, I could really use another good finish after a few bumps in my DR climb.

Awesome, as long as I can fight for a good finish I'm happy, since Rd. 9 the only good race I've had is the one at St. Croix so I need to build up some good point finishes again now that I'm in higher split rooms compared to the First Stage.

Just did a few practice races with only couple of cars on the track, racing another Mustang guys 6th in standings and I'm 5th so heck of a practice session! My strategy in the Mustang will be to catch slipstream so I don't have to manage fuel. That gap you get at Spa if you land pole is great but that clean air left me out of fuel a lap shy. We did another stint and I just followed entire race with gap of .200-.700 entire race and that left me with more than a lap to spare. Pace of low to mid 1:31s

On to the next FIA races then. I've foolishly just bought the Zonda R for the Nations Cup even though I'm almost certain I won't be able to drive it without decimating myself and the rest of the participants. I'll give it a go though as I like the Nurburgring.

For the Manu I've driven the Merc around Spa for a few laps and it feels nice and well balanced. I managed to get within around 3 seconds of the top time which is promising, and reckon I can get that down a bit more. I forgot how enjoyable Spa is to drive, especially when you compare it to Fuji and Dragon Trail Gardens. It's on a different level to those two.

In a practice race my best time was a 2:30.195, but I was more consistently in the high-2:30s to mid-2:31s (without slipstream). The other Cayman driver that had no slipstream or battling in the race was able to lap consistently in the high-2:29s to mid-2:30s, although they are 10000 DR higher than me. I feel slow around Spa, but it seems like I was just in a room full of high-level players, so I think I'm making alright lap times?

I'd say those are pretty good lap times, tbh. 1:30s should keep you up front or in the mix all day long. Especially if you don't have to worry about fuel. Side note, noticed we're about tied now in the series hopefully we get to race soon.

I also went and bought the Zonda after remembering it from whatever GT it was that it came out on. Used to love it. Did a few laps practice, hadn't got the hang of it but then realised that if I attempt to do a double header tomorrow and fill the rest of the day with the return of football, I'm spending the next week sleeping in the garden! So sticking with just Spa this weekend

That'll be the 10k DR difference.

Remember Spa is a very long lap, so while it's a second a lap on average you're only 0.7% behind a driver with 10k higher DR. Always worth watching a replay too, they're in the same car so maybe they do something radically different to you somewhere that could get you a couple of tenths closer, or just take a certain corner in a different gear that gives them extra pace. I can't help with how your pace might compare (got no bloody idea how my own pace will be!) but I'd hazard a guess from what I've seen in lobbies that your fastest lap is fast enough, maybe need to cut out the 2:31s to be at the sharp end

Glad to hear lol, ever since the first BoP update where the Cayman gained some weight I haven't been feeling as great with it. And definitely, hope we'll be in a race together sometime soon!

Also glad to hear haha. I was watching the replay and noted the differences in their driving so if I get a chance I'm going to see if I can shave at least a tenth or two on average by driving more like them. Not to mention I can't take Pouhon consistently to save my life.

Has anyone else (besides @Jwptexas - Mustang) ran out of gas while doing a full race distance at Spa? I have a feeling that'll be my safest opportunity to overtake (unless people take each other out under braking). The WRX is molasses slow in 5th. In 6th, it doesn't accelerate.

Pouhon is a wonderful corner and an evil temptation! You get it bang on and it's so rewarding, in terms of satisfaction as well as time. But it's always tempting to push it that little bit harder on the way in and that's when you go wide, lose a ton of time, and take it that bit easier on the next lap - losing time again.

Talking about losing time, I wanted to see how much time I could possibly gain if I was in a tow in qualifying. Had a tow from La Source all the way up to Les Combes... HALF A SECOND! Looks like I'll be qualifying in a train tomorrow (and no doubt get someone behind who fancies bullying their way past)

In the Cayman I had an extra 2 laps of fuel in the end, I'll have to double check later when I can but it was either the GT-R or the 86 that was on fumes towards the end. The cars in the lobby I ran had a GT-R, 86, M4, and 650S that I can look at later this evening if you don't mind waiting.

Perfect description of Pouhon for me lol. I just can't find "bang on" for me in pretty much any car. And I shutter thinking about how tomorrow's qualifying may go since the slipstream is going to be necessary :nervous:

Maybe you'll get luck and everyone will blow their qualifying runs. I've qualified 4th at Monza in Gr. 4 and 2nd at Fuji in Gr. 3 on solo runs before.

@alx42 Here's the fuel left at the end of the race.

@Mistah_MCA I guess so, upon looking again they weren't on fumes but they certainly didn't have much left in reserve, either.

Some notes: The GT-R and 86 were fighting the entire race with each other which didn't help with their fuel consumption. The 650S was in a group so spend some time in the draft, but fell off and lapped in clean air for a while. The M4 fought for about half of the race before making a mistake and lapping in clean air for the rest of it. The first Cayman photo (colorful Cayman) spent the entire race without slipstream and only some defending, while the second Cayman photo (white Cayman) spent almost the entire race in slipstream range of someone without too much fighting.

In the RC F. Well, I just ran a public Lobby. I dropped back to last of 5 cars. Messed up by only setting 9 laps, but at the finish, I had nearly 4 laps of fuel. The lead RCZ barely had fuel left. Told me he dialed it back on the last lap.

I probably saved too much by dropping back.

That's my GT-R! :dopey:

I was going flat out the entire race and had about half a lap of fuel left. It's tire life that I don't quite have.

I forgot that they were both on the same day. I wish they'd stop doing that and spread them over two days. I think I'll probably just do one of the earlier Manu slots and if I do well then I may have a go at the Nations later on.

I did a couple of practice races at Spa on my own and managed to lap in the low-mid 1:31's with a good few in the mid-high 1:30's, which I'm pretty happy with for my DR level. The tricky points for me are Pouhon and I still don't have the confidence to always go completely flat with no lifting through Raidillon Eau Rouge. It's relatively easy to get a track limits penalty too. I just wish there were some pit stops involved and it'd be a perfect race.

I just hope the first corner isn't a pile up. At least it's a rolling start.

If you're in the 1:31s you'll be MILES ahead! 2:31s and you'll be competitive ;)

Eau Rouge, cut as much of the left hand entry as you can (right wheels on the kerb) then it's easier to turn right hugging the kerb and straighten up over Raidillon. Once you're used to it it's easy flat in most Gr.4 cars, and also easy to tell when you've overcooked it and need to lift to avoid a penalty. Pouhon is extremely tricky, I would give the brakes a tap just before or on the 50m board and try to swing it in late to the apex, from there, full throttle

Now I know why I’ve never met a Pagani owner.

They’re probably all dead.
…and if I do ever meet one, I’ll be sure to speak loudly, as he’s surely at least partly deaf.

The good news is that jumping into my Cayman Gr4 ride right after feels like driving a Camry, and it’s easy to get the speed out of it. Should be sharp for the Manufacturer’s Series race at Spa after the adventure at Nürburgring.
