So after all the intense practice, the racing (closely) with guys around 70k, the shaving off of time and the 25 minute dead run, this was bound to happen

Going to try to get in the final slot, it's the only other possibility for me - and not a high possibility at that. Gutted, a solid run around here and I think I'm good for 250+pts, I'd say Spa is my best track

While I did get some better FP times and a reasonably good test lobby yesterday, I'm not sure if I'm ready for this round of Manufacturers. Qualifying hasn't been my strongest point for much of this year, and I feel like I'm going to be left behind again unless I get a good slipstream partner. Might do the 18:00 or 20:40 slots depending on how I feel later.

NATIONS

Qualifying was the usual affair and after a decent lap I was starting in 11th, nod bad for car #17.

The start was clean even though a few cars, including myself went deep into T1 on the cold tyres though I was fortunate to not lose any spots. From then on a Martini liveried car was hounding me for position. T5 and a car ahead went wide losing lots of position's and giving me another spot. T10 and I managed to get another spot up the inside on a Frenchman for 9th place and was still being hounded by the martini car. They then tried an ambitious move at the last chicane, forcing me to cut the corner slightly and giving me a 0.5 second penalty. After serving my penalty and dropping to 11th after the martini car got past at T1 a car span at the hairpin giving me 10th place back. A car then pitted lap 2 and hit the wall costing them a huge amount of time.

It was a quiet race from there until lap 7 where I pitted for medium tyres and rejoined in 10th. Screwed up that lap as I opted to spend another lap on the medium tyres and pit lap 9, it didn't pay off. Lap 10 and on new soft tyres until the end and I make a small mistake on the curbs and go off at the Schumacher S dropping 2 places to 12th. Managed to regain 11th on lap 13 which they clearly weren't happy about and then tried a mega lunge at T1 the following lap and briefly got past until T3/4 where I passed them again for 11th which was where I stayed until the finish.

Overall a couple of mistakes cost me time however realistically it would have only been 1 maybe 2 places at most. Happy with that and the fact I didn't go backwards. Not the cleanest of races either due to no fault of my own. Nit to sure about the next couple of nation's cup races, and manufacturers rounds so see you at Fuji and Laguna Seca.

Edit: It warmed my heart to see a Frenchman in a British Racing Green Zonda! Also a really fun combo, I hope PD plans on more combos like this for the Nation's and saves group 3/4 for Manufacturers personally.

Had a decently fun run at Spa, good battles in the back of the pack, wasn’t quite up the pace to be running for the points in this one. Door number 16, qualifieth 16th, finished 15th:lol:.

Had to avoid a murder attempt somewhere halfway at the busstop and got passed a bit rough in the last lap bu that same person but oh well. I’m partly to blame for the last corner chaos, tapped the guy in front of me going into the busstop, I let of the gas a bit to yield the position.

I practised Spa last sunday with the SLS, funny how 1% weight increase can make your car feel totally different, especially in downhill braking it felt way worse.

Blocked on my first Nations qualifying lap by a guy who went wide after the hairpin and stayed on track through the esses, then quit, so I drove into him

Blocked on my second Nations qualifying lap when a guy came out the pits in front of me at the start of my flyer and went through the first section as normal, braking on the exit of the corner leading to the first sector split, apparently to try and let me past

Got stuck behind the first guy in the race after I pitted on lap 1. He set the fastest lap of the race after pitting from softs on lap 4. Ended up a 91 SR after this race after a corner cut and an incident I'll put a video of up later.

Blocked before my first Manufacturer qualifying lap started - following an NSX round who decides to start warming his tyres up going up towards Blanchimont. This meant I caught him, which meant when he braked actually going through the corner, I had to veer out wide and ended up with a 2 second penalty

Hampered on my second Manufacturer qualifying lap by the same Spanish clown who tried to go side by side with me through under the bridge at Tokyo during the Fugu race the other day, coming out of the pits behind me while I was on my lap and driving as hard as possible

Had to drive a GT-R in the race and even if I hadn't been pinballed at... you know, I have no idea how to say it or spell it. The chicane before Stavelot, I might have been on the outside of the top ten, but wasn't. What a fantastic waste of the past four hours.

Real big fan of the new Gr.4 GT-R BOP btw. 4th takes ages, 5th you might as well be trying to drive up the side of Everest.

Just did the first slot in Manu. I got door number 4 so the pressure was on straight away. In qualifying so got stuck behind a slow McLaren and only managed to register one clean lap but somehow I ended up in pole position!

I started poorly and lost first place on the first bend but got it back at Les Combes. I stayed in 1st until about lap 6 when I made an error and the Dutch guy behind who was also in a Merc made a great feint at the right turn at Campus and took 1st place off me. We had a very close and clean battle for a few laps but I ended up making another error on lap 8 and he finished over 4 seconds ahead of me. In all honesty he was quicker than me and deserved the win, but I still can’t help but he disappointed with coming so close to my first FIA win!

Still, that was one of the most enjoyable races I’ve had in a while.

Edit: Just realised I forgot to save the replay!

Did a 2nd attempt at Nations. Put down a slightly better qualifying lap but still only good enough for 15th on account of the much harder lobby. Still, race pace was pretty good and went 1M/7S/7S.

The main entertainment of the race was provided by the Portuguese guy leading in the race lagging hard.

Going to leave it there. 216 points becomes my next highest when we get to 5 scoring rounds and DR is up by over 1300 so not going to push my luck. Really enjoyed the combo and the racing in both races was really respectful.

I just need to work on my qualifying.....

Because my internet at home is somewhat unreliable I switch to mobile internet for online races. I did not realize however that I had been quite heavy on data this month and didn't remember to top up in time, so I ended up getting disconnected at the worst time imaginable...

7S - 1M - 7S works like a charm though. The guys in 2nd and 3rd were definitely faster than me.

Eh, chin up. I've still got a few more tries

Looks like the game decided I should be a good Samaritan and take the penalty for my fellow countryman there :dopey:

Made up 2 positions to finish 5th despite this and another minor incident. Happy with the result 👍

Looks to me like you touched your countryman before he hit the Danish driver so the system blamed you, usually (more often than not) it'd blame the poor Danish driver in a case like this (they were hit last) but sometimes it blames the driver it blames for the first contact. Which is you in this case because you were on the outside and because they then hit another car after the touch, if you are hit and then hit someone else straight away you almost never get a penalty, even if you were going to hit a car anyway, as they were here. :banghead:

:gtpflag:

Any advice for T1 in the Nations race in the Paganis tonight? I assume all one can do is take the inside line as usual, at the expense of a faster line, to (try) to avoid being rear-ended by someone (or many someones) who cook it on cold tires and brakes… but is there any other option? Or something more effective, given the weird profile and exit of that turn??

I reclaimed the victory that I foolishly gave away in the last one 👍

Qualified 2nd and almost got taken out in the very beginning when someone plowed into everyone in the first hairpin. We (the first 3) managed to pull away. I was pretty much on par with the Spaniard in the lead, with a quick German hunting us down. He got pretty close before he made a mistake and fell back. Used the 7S - 1M - 7S strategy again which provided me with a healthy 6 second lead after everyone was done pitting.

Came 3rd on Nations, and was disappointed in the boring standard liveries. I had a sultry purple which goes nicely with the stock gold alloys. It was utter pinball for the first lap, and I went from starting on the grid in 4th to 12th in a few corners, but got back to 5th by Lap 2 as people pretended Zondas can not only accelerate as well as Gr3 cars, but break as well as them too. The rest of the race was uneventful and came down to tyres in the end.

D'oh! Thought the 20:40 slot was a regular slot, but of course I'm not worthy of Superstars status. :p

Will be gunning for the 20:50 despite my woeful FP time. Mustang feels marginally better to turn on BB +2, if still prone to understeer, so might see how that setting works in racing conditions...

BB+2 and turn on coasting, then power right after apex is what I do. I am a lot slower though...

Loved the Atenza round Spa, hit 3rd in qualifying on first attempt and quit early to save myself for the race. By the time the session was over I was 9th but did not want to be in the first corner near the front anyway so was aiming for good but not too good, and as it was I finished 4th after a decent race with only one half second penalty for cutting Mr Rouge. Might have had 3rd if I didn't run wide once at Stavelot when chasing an Audi with a 1sec penalty to be applied at the end of the race, I was just a couple of seconds behind, but kept it neat and on track aside from that.

Nice work! What would you say is the optimal interval for two-stops? Are the softs good for 5 laps or just 4? Thanks!

The Pagani has so much grip, seems like it'll bite at some point, but it doesn't. Before the race, I was going to go 5RS/5RM/5RS. When I kept setting purple sector 1, once out in front, I stretched it to 6RS/7RS/2RM. The worn RS was good versus the fresh RM. Again, it's going to depend who you're racing, for that optimal lap. Best bet is to see how many laps you can get in qualy. No fuel burn, but you can see how the tyres taper off.

I ran 7 Soft-1 Med-7 Soft. The Zonda on Meds loses about a second per lap to Softs.

Well, my race today was marred by a very dirty driver. I started 6th, gained a place at T1, then lost that place to someone who shoved his way past me at the exit of T7. I accepted my loss with a grumble and carried on. I dropped to 7th, but jumped back up to 5th after going in too hot into T1:

The guy that stopped short of turning into me got a 3 second penalty for turning into the guy that followed my line (even though he recovered with no position drop). Oops.

On lap 6, I caught up to the guy who shoved past me on lap 1 after he flubbed the final chicane. I overtook him while he was ghosted, but he proceeded to run me wide at the final corner, sending me into the gravel and a spin. I was not amused, to say the least. I was lucky I only lost 2 places, but losing 14 seconds to a dirty driver is infuriating (especially when he got off without a penalty).

I carried on with my pit strategy, and on lap 12, I happened to catch up to the guy who spun me out (due to the latter having an excursion at T7). He tries to slam me off when I take the inside line at T5, which is when I finally lost my patience. I let him past at T6, then rammed him off at T7, sending him down to 11th. It costed me a 2 second penalty and a drop to 7th (which is where I finished), but it was a small price to pay compared to the risk of getting run off the road again. As for him, he clearly didn't learn his lesson, as he muscled his way past one more guy to take 10th.

Replay involving both incidents:

It's quite telling that the dirty driver was the only one to lose SR after the race.

I also took some pictures of my ride:

Had a few rounds watching or being involved with that driver in the dailies last couple of months. They always drive like that unless they are farming for SR. Unfortunately you were the unlucky match this time.

Just got finished doing the first Nations slot. I qualified 16th, so I decided to go with the 1M/7S/7S strategy since I was starting from the back. But even when I have a uphill battle ahead of me, some 🤬 still happens to make things more difficult. On the first lap, I get rammed off the track at the hairpin on the bottom of the course. Unsurprisingly, the rammer just keeps going and the game gives them a 2 sec. penalty. I managed to recover quickly, but I still dropped down to last. I was hoping that since I was going to pit on the first lap anyway, this wouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

The rest of the race after that incident was clean, thankfully. With the above pit strategy, I finished 10th for 107 points. But I'm not satisfied with that, especially since I got screwed over at the start, so I'll be going again. I feel like I could've gotten a better finishing position if I didn't get hit.

Man, what a race! Qualified P3, less than a tenth off pole. Race starts and in T1/L1 I get punted right into P2 which puts him off, but I got lucky and managed to save it. I wanted to pull over for him, I felt terrible that his race got ruined, but it really wasn’t my fault so I decided to carry on. At this point I was running in P2 on a 7s/1h/7s strat, after my two pit stops I was in 6th and starting to question my strategy, but then the leader hits the pit wall on his second stop and things started to get interesting. Over the last few laps everyone else pits, then on the last lap, I caught the lead two cars coming out of the pits and somehow managed to brake super late into T1 and take the lead around the outside, he finished less than a cars length behind me. I wish all races could be that much fun. :)

Not as bad of a run in the 20:50 as I initially feared, but the potential is there to do even better at 56-57K.

20:50 Manufacturers

Was encouraged by the Mustang's handling on brake balance +2, so used that in qualifying to set an early 2:29.016 behind a Porsche. This was despite having to avoid a slow-moving McLaren at Pouhon and to keep my distance throughout much of the second and third sectors. My intention was also to let a Vauxhall-liveried M4 have my slipstream, which despite my initial concerns enabled him to jump one place ahead of me. Had no slipstream to follow for the second lap, so used that to try and give my Swiss teammate a tow. Though he fell back, traffic and a penalty for going wide at Jacky Ickx corner ruined my lap anyway, so I used the opportunity to give him a boost and make a clear road through the bus stop. Glad he went through and got a four-place jump in the process; we started 12th and 11th respectively behind the 'Vauxhall', between seven and eight tenths off the pole-sitting Subaru.

Usually I do a good job keeping to the track limits through Eau Rouge and Raidillon, but unfortunately that wasn't to be the case tonight. Instant 0.5-second penalties for me, the 'Vauxhall' and my Swiss teammate. Had a poorer run through there anyway, so was content with sacrificing 11th and taking the mantle of rear gunner against a Dutch Audi. The defence helped give the Swiss Mustang some breathing space, but he cuts too much of the grass through Stavelot and I sail back past around the outside as he eases up at Blanchimont. Penalty didn't affect me as badly as I had expected; as such, I was able to get close to the tail of the 'Vauxhall' as he ran wide and picked up another track limits penalty at Stavelot.

Dutch Audi gets a better run through to the bus stop, so I take to the outside and let him have the first apex. In turn, I cover the second apex and squeeze back past, but not without contact as the Audi keeps turning into my right-rear while I'm already committed to the inside line. Apologised later for said contact as I didn't see that the Audi was still there, but don't think I received a response. Sailed into 10th once the 'Vauxhall' served his second penalty and gradually built up an advantage as the pack behind fought amongst themselves. Anticipated a lonely run to the flag from that point onwards, only to start catching a McLaren, another Audi and a Citroen fighting for 7th. Got gifted 9th when the Citroen ran out of road at the bus stop on Lap 8, but didn't have enough ground to properly challenge the Audi. Podium was filled by a Corvette, a Ferrari and the Subaru.

Have to say that with those balance adjustments and driving techniques learnt from the top two Mustangs in a test lobby, I was able to get much more out of my steed here than I did in early practice. Traffic, penalties and a lack of slipstream probably hurt my chances of bagging more points, but after the traumas last week I'm glad to have regained some of my Manufacturers mojo (for now). 185 points and nine eligible top-10 results in the bag. Have a feeling that Fuji in the GT LM could be quite good...

Congrats man, that was a good win. Came down to the smallest margins exiting the pits on the last lap, I think at one point we were 3 wide exiting T1. But a great clean race and was a lot of fun!

My Manufacturer slot 1 race in a nutshell (North America, A/S lobby):

Q7 in the Merc, .5 off pole and feeling great.

Destroyed from behind at Les Combs on lap 1 and not feeling so great.

Recover to finish 10th for 106 points and 100 DR and too frustrated to try again on one of my favourite tracks.

Thanks man, Great race! I can’t believe how close it was there on the last lap, that was so cool. It was a pleasure racing with you tonight man, that was some super clean and really fun racing. I hope we meet up on the track again soon.

Well my Manufacturer's race was worthless. The Corvette that won the last 2 Manu rounds I raced in was also in this one, so I knew once again I'd be finishing last of the Corvettes anyway. I followed him on my first qualifying hot lap, but managed to miss literally every apex on my lap, and in spite of drafting the eventual polesitter (who did it without a slipstream by the way...), I could only qualify 7th. I needed 5th to get at least 200 points, and 6th for this race to not be literally pointless.

I spent half the race fighting with an 86 that would close in on me in the corners but lose out on the straights. Eventually an Alfa serving a penalty fell back into my clutches, and it was like racing against a Redbull Jr. car. The Alfa could brake ridiculously late and could carry insane corner speed, but might as well have put it in Park on the straights. Our fight for 5th place lasted a couple intense laps. Eventually the combined effect of the slipstream and worn tires meant I got a stupid track limits penalty at Turn 11, and nearly wrecked myself twice at Turn 16, which dumped me down to 10th, with 7th-9th right in front of me. I couldn't catch them though and on the run to the finish line I ripped the e-brake to slide across the line, as I wasn't going to catch them anyway. My car slid to a stop just before the line and I gave up 10th place as a result, and almost lost 11th too, but I was going to have to race again anyway, so I didn't really care about losing anymore spots. I could've just parked it and let the time expire at that point. I got 140 worthless points for my effort, while the only other Corvette won the race for 100 more points than I got. Only 1.5 hours until I can try again...

Oh, and @Granadier and @Jwptexas were also in my race, not that I ever saw either of them...

Probably the most fun I had in a race @ Spa. 3rd on the grid (and probably the last good spot to start from given the chicane), Ran 3rd-4th for first half of race until the leaders all had various issues. Raced a 86 real hard for last couple of laps. Had the straight speed, but what have I said before? Straight line speed at Spa means nothing if your car pushes harder than the corner drug dealer. Which cost me as the 86 just rode my behind until he had an issue with the 3rd place Porsche. The <insert expletive here> was the pole winner and much quicker than myself or the 86. He spun early, but managed to recover and divebombed me a few laps later to miss myself and straightline the bus stop. Managed to catch us again on lap 10. And myself at the final chicane, where he just went full banzai and while he knocked me out of the lead (still managed a great second in the Ferrari), he still won. No penalties, he cut the corner and hit someone. At least worth .5 of a second in the GTS/PD penalty system of silly walks.

Whatever. Truly entertaining race, and 147 points. So maybe a top 4? Still have to check. But with not many more interesting races left on the schedule, at least my last one might've been a solid result.

Nation’s Cup:
Qualified 13th (door #8), pretty good race. No big problems (other than the goofy car) and finished 14th.

Points tally for the race: Lost 470 DR points total. Started with 595 + 111 (race completion) – 470 (for poor position) to drop my total DR to 236 (gained 16 cup points for USA).

Manufacturer’s Race:
Qualified 18th (door #8) which was my choice due to nervousness about T1. I was doing ok working through the ranks up to 11th for 4 laps but blew everything on L8 with a spin on the first series of s turns (T2/T3) and lost 4 positions to 15th. Made it back to 14th (where I finished) thanks to driver in front losing it on a turn.

Point tally for the race: Lost 263 DR points total. Started with 236 + 28 (race completion) - 263 (for poor finish) to return me to a grand total of 1 (gained 3 cup points for Citroen).

I only took one SR downcheck and a few penalties because drivers figured out who they could hit and get away with it. 3 rear end hits with me being the victim AND getting the penalties. I still cannot figure this system out but some have it figured out and exploit it.

SR started the night and remained at 99.

Looking forward to race #3 - Kermit’s Multi Class Endurance Series driving my Lamborghini GT3 Gr3 at one of the Kyoto race parks. This should be fun!

Enjoy your racing!
