Building up to one of the greatest last lap battles I've ever had.

Ending in an insane photo finish with our cars split by only 0.021s

congratulations to both drivers. Epic racing, awesome battle and very clean. Wish there was so much more racing of this quality in the game. both drivers showing repect to eachother and to racing in general. Only the best drivers can have a fight like this without ramming the other off!

makes me want to go racing again!

These races just keep getting better! Entered the first slot tonight and got into a lobby with @Winnie847, @Jwptexas, @GTWolverine among other really great drivers. Qualifying went well and I just managed a 3rd place start ahead of Winnie by 0.001s. REVenginPL started on pole by half a second and the last time I saw them was lap 1. Seriously quick pace in the Corvette and they walked away with 1st easily.

The race itself was full of close and respectful racing. For the first 5 laps we had a 4-way battle between myself, Winnie in the Atenza, an Alfa, and an RCZ. Unfortunately the latter two got savagely smacked with PD's stupid penalty system for minor bumps and so the last half of the race was an M4 vs. Atenza battle (hello @Famine).

Thanks again for the great race buddy! What an epic one. Usually I prefer to be the one doing the chasing, but I knew I could count on you to fight hard and fair. I was a little bit relieved when I saw that Ddawg and Gyrza both had penalties, but then I was like "oh wait, but they are the only thing keeping Granadier from breathing down my neck in that M4!!!" I knew I'd be fighting for my life once they fell back.

thanks man! races like this are always a pleasure, especially when I can share the podium with a teammate. It really helps to know and trust the people around and makes for a great experience. This is why we play the game!

Thinking of using the GR Supra Racing Concept for the Gr.3 race at Spa-Francorchamps, is that still a good car to use there? What about the tires?

Also, I was busy visiting my younger brother with my parents yesterday, and I was too tired to make the 21:20 entry last night for the Nations Cup, let alone the Manufacturers Series entry at 22:40.

The Jag has some legs around Spa (although I might be the only Jag driver in NA who thinks so since I didn’t see any of my S-rated colleagues on the leaderboard), and I was putting down high 28s in FP and consistent mid 30s in lobbies, so I had a really good feeling about racing tonight.

I'm glad someone is having some good results with the Jag because this car, in my hands, is a dog. But like I alluded to before, Lightning could be driving a Samba Bus and still beat me. Maybe I'll get it figured out just in time for the release of the new game.

Have you checked the race conditions? It's a wet race so the FR cars will be a real handful putting the power down. The EMEA leaderboard is full of NSX's but I've found more pace with the R8. The 911 might be worth a shot but may be a little tail happy.

Heavy wet tyres seem to be the way to go.

Qualified 6th which put me in almost a good start position on the chicane. Ran mostly a lonely race til lap 8 when the got a 1 second penalty allowing me to close the gap and making it a battle for 5th to end. The BOP change really help the acceleration and weight transfer in cornering, didn't have any problem staying with the Cayman and getting ahead ended the race at P5 for my 8th straight top 5 finish. Would've had a better result if I didn't understeer the first couple of laps on Les Combes

I doubt they’ll ever use HTM, it has some pretty glitchy starts for some reason.

Nah, looks like PD has some of the devs from Criterion, or they found the stash Criterion was using when they designed these cutscenes for MW 2012.

NFS MW 2012 police pyramid.jpg

Also, I've never done rain races before online, are those carnage-filled? Given the low grip, I'd imagine so.

Race 16 - SPA
This was an adventure, as my wheelbase came loose and I had to do the race making sure I pressed forward on the wheel to keep it steady.
It happened on the first lap and you see in the video that I go wide and spin and hit a car.I survived and di quote a recovery race after that.
I used multi cam editing to give the video a bit more production value. Hope you like it.

I think I’ll just use the NSX on Heavy Wets, then.

Manufacturer races last night did not go as planned. Figured it would come down to qualifying and best I could manage in the 1st slot was 2:29.500 good enough for 10th finished 18th. Next two slots qualifying 2:30 flat started 18th finished 18th. 5k DR loss, luckily no SR drop considering some real ugly racing going on. Punted into the realm of the sand one race and another got stuck around somebody just ruining everybody race around them.... this person had 11 second penalty at one point in the race, eventually quit.

Think I'm done for the year in the Mustang, just can't put a decent race together with results. On to Fuji for me!

Lots of familiar names in the lobbies good racing with y'all. Granadier looked like he had a thrilling race and GTwolverine got way over that 200 point hump, congratulations!

Hey ma, look, I'm in @Lewmatic's video! :)

Good race for me in the McLaren. Qualified P3. Managed to climb to 2nd after the guy ahead got a track limits penalty. Remained close to the leader in the Atenza in the slipstream. Leader then made a mistake in the bus stop, lap 7 or so. I managed to get alongside into La Source but he had the inside. Had a much better run but had to back out as he defended in the middle of track going into Eau Rouge. That brought P3 back into the mix. Last lap was very interesting, almost side by side into Fagnes and Stavelot as I was trying to attack and defend from 3rd at the same time. In the end, I didn't manage to be alongside enough as to keep my nose in, so had to settle for P2, 6 tenths off the winner. Really clean and enjoyable race.

Best score in this Manufacturers season so far though, getting close to @CurbHog in the battle for P8 at McLaren.

Don’t forget Kyoto Miyabi. XD

The mayhem would be legendary. Running Gr.1 at Northern Isle would make people so dizzy they’ll end up binning it into the wall. Willow Streets and Horse Thief would probably be punters’ delight (with a side order of corner cutting for Streets). BB Turn 1 is just Crash Central with Turn 3 also collecting its fair share of incidents.

Or Super Formula @ Northern? 100 lapped with tire wear cranked to the max.

Manufacturers Round 16, 1st Time Slot

Qualifying went much better than expected. I tried getting into the slipstream train, but the Atenza ahead of me accidentally punted the TT ahead of them into the braking zone of the final chicane, and I punted the Atenza. So, I ran that lap without a draft and a little distracted and put myself up to 8th. I messed up Eau Rouge/Radillon on my 2nd flying lap so I restarted for one last chance. I managed to get 4th without the draft, so I was feeling good.

Being in 4th meant I was with the first group, thanks to how Spa's rolling starts worked. However, 1st and 2nd kept fighting each other, culminating in a crash that wiped out the leading TT on Lap 3, slowing me and 3rd down which let the group behind begin to catch us. I was defending hard from a Cayman behind for the next 2 laps before he decided to go for dive bomb of the century into the final chicane, hitting the Corvette in front of me and giving me a 2 second penalty for turning into me. So, I went from 3rd to 9th and got stuck behind a Jaguar and SLS fighting constantly. I crossed the line in 6th though when, on the final chicane, things came to a head and the Jaguar went for a very aggressive move and punted the SLS while also almost spinning out.

I gained 170 points in the end. Although I knew I could've finished higher, I felt that my qualifying and the race I had was pretty much perfect, and since I didn't have any other "backup" scores to use when 5 rounds get counted, I decided to settle for this result and aim for a better result in the upcoming rounds. Gr. 3 Fuji be looking tasty since I have plenty of experience there from Daily Races..... And Alsace in Gr. 4 cars should suit the Cayman well.

Nations Round 16, 2nd Time Slot

I deliberately skipped the 1st Nations time slot because I had a bad feeling about what it would do to my DR, and since my DR is the highest its ever been I wanted to use that to match into a higher-split Manufacturers lobby for point. So much for that plan... Anyways, apparently no one was racing this round of the Nations cup because there was a 30,000 DR range from Door #1 to Door #20 (me) in this race. 1st place was 267 points, which is over 30 points higher than the highest lobby I've ever been in. So, I knew immediately I wasn't going to get many points or stand much a chance.

Qualifying was uneventful, I avoided everyone and despite going as fast as I could, and given the high-DR nature of the room, it was only enough for 19th. Since I was starting from the back I decided I'd be aggressive and go for the two-stop strategy, since I'll need all the pace I could to keep up. I also decided to fuel save as well because I knew that I was only going to keep up through strategy rather than raw pace.

At race start, some incident occurred that wiped out one of the front runners, giving me 18th. Almost everyone in front was on the same strategy as me, so after the first pit stop I found myself where I was before the stop. I get a pass done on Lap 2 into Turn 7 and build a gap, and the front runner that was recovering passes me into Turn 1 on Lap 3, not that I planned on defending. I wanted to use them as someone I could draft to maintain pace and save fuel. I gain another spot on Lap 3 into the final chicane when someone runs wide and gets reset, and nothing much happens until I put at the end of Lap 8 and catch up to a battle on Lap 10.

A person behind me who was much faster manages a really good move as both the person in front and I go deep into the chicane and makes it three-wide on the front straight. They get by the person ahead, and I and 15th place duel for the next two laps in some really good close racing. I'm eventually able to get the move done into Turn 7 on Lap 12, but I get passed at the T3-T4 complex on Lap 13. However, on the final lap, the person ahead loses control coming out of Turn 6, and I come home in 15th place for a measly 111 points. I debated going again or not since the focus needed for that race actually drained me a bit, so I took a break.

Nations Round 16, 3rd Time Slot

The lobby was even more dispersed now. Although there were more A rated drivers, the DR range from Door #1 to Door #20 was now over 35,000, and the points value for the win was down to 257 points. So I knew I was going to be essentially wasting me time again.

Qualifying was uneventful again, but I managed to qualify 16th this time. I stuck to the same 1M/7S/7S strategy as last race. The person starting behind me was starting on softs, so I didn't defend hard, but they didn't make a pass until the final chicane. Almost everyone in front of me dived for the pits and I came out in 19th. On my exit I accidentally tapped the back of a person who didn't pit, getting an SR down but no penalty (thankfully). I spent the lap playing catch-up and made a pass coming out of the final corner for 18th, and then out of T4 gained another place as someone spun. I then played catch-up again for the next two laps. Then for following two laps I was unable to pass the person in front of me. I eventually gained the spot when they backed out of the final chicane to pit. The next two laps were lonely and I pit at the end of Lap 8, coming out with a 1.7s gap to the person behind, who was the person who spun out from the front of the race. They were gaining on me, with some mistakes from me costing me a few tenths and some mistakes from them costing them a few tenths. They were in striking range in the final chicane of the final lap, but luckily for me they ran out of fuel, letting me finish a comfortable 15th (again). This time I only got 107 points. Either way it won't matter since it's towards the lower end of my recorded scores.

I had a little go in the R8 and a slightly bigger little go in the 911. R8 feels more planted and faster, but I think the rear tyres are going to be hurting a lot by the half way point. Porsche - could probably do the race without a pit stop

Should get a proper test done tomorrow

Yesterday had to be one of my best days for FIA racing. Had good practice for both races so I had some confidence going in, but my first Nations race was a disaster. Qualified got ruined multiple times and I managed to hit the pit entry wall, so it was an empty result. First Manufacturers wasn't a great start either but I was able to climb my way up thanks to the leaders battling mid-race. Some sketchy driving from others resulted in some silly penalties but I was able to get 4th.

Thought I had a shot at the Top 16 for Nations since I was 22nd in the standings, but missed out. Got into the best-of-the-rest slot and finally had a clear lap with a tow and almost put the car on pole. Started 2nd, finished 2nd, about 6 seconds back from the leader, gained a good amount of points. Conserved more fuel than the leader so I was well off the pace, but managed to claw some of it back through a shorter pit stop.

Second manufacturers run was even better, again got a good run and put it on pole by a few thousands of a second. Probably should have been beaten but no one really managed to get a better 2nd lap. First pole I've had in anything in forever. Held the lead for the first 7 laps with an Evo following me as we tried to pull away from the pack, but I went a tick inside the curbing at Raidillon and picked up a penalty. I let the Evo go when he took a look inside at Les Combes so as to not hold him up, and just tried to hang with him. Took the penalty and fell to third behind the NSX, but the Evo and NSX kept up a good battle so I stayed with them. A lot of good side by side from the three of us, plus an 86 that managed to catch me when I overshot the bus stop a bit, but took it back on the straight to come home third. The top four all separated by just three seconds. I think I could have held the lead to the finish had I not been earned the penalty, but two podiums one after the other is more than enough for me.

you've had some blistering pace lately man, great job at doing the hard part of putting together qualy and race performance for good results. congrats!

Do you think the MR cars are the best bet for this race? I tried the NSX but I've never used it before and it was oversteering all over the place. I then had a go in my trusty AMG and found it much easier to control. I'm tempted to give the 4C a try but I know it suffers with straight line speed.

I kind of wish there were some 4WD cars in Gr3 just for this race.

I could not keep my Citroen's rear end from wobbling on every turn. Tried my trusty Porsche and had much better results (not near the top 25 but better). I also tried the NSX and had a miserable time dealing with the oversteer . . . not fun to drive at all.

I thought I was doing pretty well in the AMG then saw I was 6 seconds off the top time. I’ve never done a wet race before on GTS so it takes some adjusting. Some corners I’m braking too early and others too soon. Going to need a lot of practice.

When it's wet MR cars are the go-to cars really. Driving in the wet is all about being super smooth though. You'll need to dial your braking points back a bit but there's actually help. There are slightly darker parts of the track at a couple of the braking points for Spa - Les Combes and Les Fagnes both have darker patches around 20-30m before a normal braking point in the dry and that's about the place to brake in these conditions. Again it's all about smooth though, aggressive inputs and the car will lock up, spin its wheels, understeer, oversteer or all of the above around one corner. I quite enjoy how patient you have to be when driving in the wet, teetering on the edge!

Back to cars, I need to have a proper go in the NSX, it feels like it would be really quick once you get used to the gearing on it (as is evident in the EMEA top 10). At the moment I think I'm solid in the Porsche but the NSX feels like it has so much more potential and if you're very smooth with it - it won't try to kill you at every turn!

This was the state of the tyres on an R8 after 11 laps. They were sketchy as they look. Funnily it felt like decent lap times were still possible but it was getting increasingly difficult to not slide, and every slide made the problem worse. I'd do a purple sector and then drift around the next corner.

Now for the really bad news. Pit loss for tyres only I clocked at 11.5 seconds (!) I'm no expert on strategies and often call it wrong, but looks like the fastest strategy is to no stop, BUT LOOK AFTER THE TYRES!!!

I'm sure pitting will result in picking up positions as people slide off the track, but feel like whoever wins will be the pros at driving in the wet.

Going to try the NSX though, maybe that's better....

Is fuel an issue? I jumped into a lobby for quick race and idk what they had on the fuel multiplier but I was only getting 4-5 laps until empty

Guess I'll be running TCS 1 for this one...

Fuel multiplier is only 2x for this race, so there's no way you should be running out of fuel.

R8 LMS felt too inconsistent with me, to the point where I spun out in the second half of a practice race. :(
Also tried the 911 RSR, and I was sliding a lot at the end. Interestingly, I think the long 1st gear hurts its rear tires, as you have to be super careful with it to prevent wheelspin.
NSX worked out the best for me. I was able to consistently get 2:36's, and the throttle control felt a lot easier for me in that car.

@Jwptexas Fuel isn't an issue. They likely had the multipliers mixed up; they likely had Fuel x6 Tires x2, instead of Fuel x2 Tires x6

Thanks, that's probably it. I was getting a little worried I wouldn't do well in the only Nations event I had circled on the calendar! I'm terrible at fuel saving races.

Is there a way to change the sensitivity for the L2/R2 triggers? Think I'll be turning sensitivity down a bit. 0 TC in the GT just can't hook up. Slow and steady.
