I'd had a couple of touches then going into T1 I gave Hasnain a tap, nothing big, no places lost, no real time loss, 1s penalty... EACH! If I thought mine was harsh Hasnain's was ridiculous.
I think I might've had a very slight tap with the car in front just before you hit me which gave me my penalty but yeah very sensitive

One thing I never understand in FIA races: people trying to race me on an out lap. I literally have to pull over to let these hotheads through. It's confusing to say the least.

This is an accurate summary of my race too, especially the last part.

I normally wait about 45s before going out just to avoid other people. I qualified higher than I should've (going off race pace) and it's probably cos the rest of them just got in each other's way

Nations cup Rd1

1st slot - I was pretty confident after running the test race on Monday in our private league and then seeing the qualifying times in Oceania top split. Well, didn't go that way... Only able to do a 06.8 in quali which was only good enough for P10 on the grid. Started the race ok, won 2 positions until turn 3 then in turn 4 got pushed and slided on the grass pointing in the wrong direction. Until I started again I was already 24s behind the leader and about 7s from P19 so only thing I could do was put clean laps. Took me 5 laps to catch up with the back group then I worked my way up the field and managed to finish in P15. Not good enough...

2nd slot: Did a good quali - 2.06.0 which put me in P2. Missed a bit the start, losing 2 positions right away and then going down to P6 at end of lap2 after Spaniard and an Italian barged their way through. The Spaniard also caught up to the Ukrainian in PE and they took each other out - handing me P4 again. From there on, I just hanged in P4 trying to close the 2s gap to the cars fighting for P2. Only managed that in the last 2 laps when the tyres of the Spaniard in P3 died, but I could only make a move in the last corner of the last lap. Missed a bit my braking, touching him slightly and completely ruining my momentum - had to settle for P4 and 165 points.

Attempted the 1st, 4th and 5th Nations slots. Got disconnected from all of them. Last slot was the closest with actually getting into the lobby before everyone got kicked out.

Seems like there's been a few issues but I was just particularly unlucky as there's plenty of race reports here.

Didn't want to do this stupid race anyway

Well, I decided to try again for SR repair and had a much better race. I was more adjusted to the Veyron this time around and Q4th.

Turn 1 was steady unlike my prior SR99 lobby although I dropped to 10th after turn 2. By lap 2, I was 7th after passing 2 penalty servers. I had a great battle with P6, traded places for several laps until he slid off onto the grass, came back on, blocked a car behind and landed a 3s penalty. I was 5th by the time he served his penalty and chased P4 who looked to be having a hard time with his tyres. I passed to finish 4th for 142 points and 0.5s off 3rd. Fun race if you manage to luck out with a clean lobby.

As I suck at staying in slipstream in qualifying, or somehow always magically pick the last place qualifier to follow I have started staying late as well. Roll out, do a turn or 2 then return to pits and restart. My qualifying has improved immensely as a result.

And bonus, the one race I was going to struggle to make due to my work schedule turns out to be the one I most wanted to avoid as I utterly can not figure out the track. Dragon Trail Gardens. Yay!

Now after my rubbish performance last night I will actually have to do well at a few of these others. :scared:

I usually wait in the pits as well, or not qualify at all depending on the race but it doesn't dismiss the dumb mentality of pedal to the metal and racing on an out lap. It's evading a problem rather than solving. Sometimes I decide to try and qualify with a slipstream but you know, it's probably wise I simply not bother lol.

Welp, that was a race to forget. @Winnie847 was in my race, and I would say it was good to see him, if he wasn't 17 places ahead of me for most of the time

But anyways, qualifying was rough, I was only able to put in a 2:07.3 which was only good enough for 15th place and was 1.2s off of pole.

At race start, my internet's server must've switched to the Curiosity Rover on Mars or something because everyone's cars were sliding around by a car width or two, making it impossible for me to race closely with anyone since I couldn't tell where they actually were and I didn't want to wreck anyone. I was still at 3 bars and it wasn't like that during practice and qualifying so I have no idea what happened. I didn't want to quit due to the SR hit though, since I'm back in school and I don't have all the free time in the world anymore to recover SR if needed. So I just stuck at the back in 18th for most of the race, and I decided to no-stop since there'd be no point trying to fight people with a laggy internet connection. But, luckily my internet's server returned to Earth in the last half of the race, but it was already past the pit window. I kept getting track penalties for trying to maximize the track width too much, and I finished in 18th despite climbing back into 14th for a little bit as people pitted and wrecked each other. More importantly though, I stayed at SR 99. One-and-done, I hate this car. Congrats on the win @Winnie847 !

Signed the contract for Dodge and I'll be gearing up for Manufacturers.

Hit the 20:00EDT Americas Nations Cup. I love Maggiore, I know the track limits like the back of my hand, and I'm very comfortable in AWD cars, so this race was right up my alley.

Door number 6 in a typical Americas lobby: four A/S or S/S players, and a whole lot of D/S, including yours truly. Managed to qualify fifth with a low 2:12. Of course, the aliens were putting up times a good three seconds clear of me, but I was leading the rest.
After a lap, the race settled into their distinctive groups: the top players, me and an American, and everybody else. The American and I had a good, clean battle over seven laps, with me staying in front most of the time, until he pitted - and I stayed out. In the final three laps he managed to claw back the lost time and eventually overtake me, thanks to his fresh tyres and me driving on bricks.

Ultimately finished 6th, and honestly it felt like 2nd place to me, considering how far away the A/S guys were from the two of us. Pace-wise, it felt like it was HAM/VER/BOT/BOT up there, and we were Stroll and Perez if we were allowed to openly fight. I had a blast!

Well that was fun...I like big boats and I cannot lie.

Qualified 3rd with 17 on the door and came home P4. 1st lap got the 2nd turn punt that knocked me down a place and the first 5 laps were aggressive to say the least. Things settled down and eventually had a great battle for the last podium place, got the cut back on the hairpin last lap but the other guy got a hell of a run and couldn't catch him after that.

Was in with @roamingbard13 (for the first time I think!) and a few other names that always seem to end up in scrapes. Thankfully they were avoided for the most part and I'll take that as a one and done.

Started 13th, finished 11th. Horrible race on a horrible track in a horrible car filled with horrible people. Bring on Dragon Trail at the weekend.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesnt like Maggiore. The first three corners are seemingly just there for the sake of making the lap longer. If the layout was as below it would be in my opinion much better.

Its a real shame because there's so few original circuits that they actually put effort into, and this is one of them.

Great racing with you dude! I got knocked off on that first set of corners and it went down hill from there. Congrats on the good finish.

@KosmoKazi was in my second race and that also sucked for me. Just not my night. I need to get some more close racing practice in, I’m feeling the rust of 6-7 weeks of no FIA races.!

FIAGTC 2020-2021 Exhibition Season
Nations Cup
Race #1

Gave it a shot in the first slot, surged up a couple of positions at the start but got squeezed off the track on lap one by an idiot that apparently doesn't use his radar. Yeah, I should have maybe not put my nose in there... but it IS a race, and it was the first lap, so you want to make sure you get positions when they are there. But wasted the first hour, lost a ton of DR, and tried to shake off the red mist before the next slot. (Finished 14th after charging up through the pack, best I could do with only 10 laps and no pit strategy to shake things up.)

Second race went a little better, though the nature of this combo meant it was a little rough in spots. Had some fun close racing with @roamingbard13 in that cool Racing Point livery for a lap or so...

But ended the night a bit down after the first race, and discouraged by the poor start of this season. The car is fun to drive (plus sounds awesome), and I'd put a lot of practice into the race-- but the way that first one went just soured me for this round. Fully intended to stick with one and done for as many rounds as possible but wasn’t going to live with that garbage outcome from the first race, and then wasn’t able to improve much and lost some more DR in trying it a second time.

On the bright side: I do like seeing all the cool liveries in the one-make races... I appreciate the variety and the effort that people make.

Also: thanks as always to the Pacific and Europe mates that share some insights on race day... huge help in preparation and I really appreciate that each round. Cheers to that.

Got thrown into Top Split for the first slot since I had over 53k DR racing at Spa last week, and wasn't expecting a good result. Qualifying was about what I expected in P14. I was over cautious on the brakes at the beginning of the race, but was actually keeping up with the cars immediately in front of me. I passed 3 cars that either had penalties or slid off track, and figured it was only a matter of time before they caught back up to me, but to my surprise I not only stayed ahead of them, but I easily opened a gap to the cars behind me while keeping up with the 3-4 cars directly in front of me.

I spent most of the race in a 4-car train from 8th-11th, with me brining up the rear, but pleasantly surprised to at least have enough pace to be fighting for a Top 10. I started to lose the slipstream towards the end of the race, then 10th place's tires just fell off a cliff and I was all over them the last lap. I had a look up the inside of Big Banky Boy, but couldn't make it stick, and had to settle for 11th. Even though it was only mid-pack and outside the Top 10, it was way more than I was expecting to get in Top Split. I even gained 800 DR from it, in addition to 179 points. I also kept my record CRB streak going, which is now at 10.

Even though I was hoping to get 200+ points for every race this season, I decided against going again, since I'd probably keep getting stuck in Top Split. Now to shed 4k DR between now and Saturday so I can get back down to DR A...

Why deliberately tank your DR?

I love Maggiore. 3 Races yesterday. In the last one I finished P2 with a number 20 on the door. Hope I can keep it up an be on my way to a DR A.

Why aren't all races grid starts with false start check? There is so much more excitement when the red lights come up. Compare that to last week's daily race B at Spa and I can't see how anyone would not be in favor of a grid start.

Penalty system had its moment, too. I was in P1, ran wide out of the banked turn, lost the rear and P2 could not avoid me just before I ghosted. We both spun out (I was already before he hit me) and he got 3 seconds for it. He had more pace than me, so I think he would have won. I think he got P6 in the end.

Well that was .... how do you say it politely ..... overly aggressive :lol:. Going to put it down to the track and first round excitement and hope next race is calmer .
.

My race was as if someone dropped a raging Hulk/Moses in the mid pack, I watched him wreck his way up and I suspect he hit more than half the field.

Why deliberately tank your DR?
To get in a lower split where you can place higher and thus get higher points

Yes I am aware of that.

But it's an exhibition season so the season itself means nothing... so what's the point of deliberately tanking. You learn and gain nothing by putting yourself against lower ranked competitors, especially if you can make it into top split.

Just my opinion.

Oh,I agree. The best way to learn is going up against better players, or in a car you do not fully master.

Nations FIA exhibition round 1 report:

Time Trial was fun, best time 2:04.105

Race Slot 1 - blocked badly in qualifying by slipstream seekers who don’t apologise. Then rammed by a desperado turn 1 lap 1.

Slot 2 - disconnected before warm up

Slot 3 - rammed again at turn 1 lap 1

Slot 4 - pushed wide at turn 1 and turn 3 on lap 1, received stupid penalty

Slot 5 - lobby all disconnected

Never mind, the tyre multiplier x 7 was too much using pad in the 1st or 2nd EMEA split anyway. May as well not have bothered, it was an exercise in pointless frustration. 2:05.5 best qualifying only good enough for 10th in EMEA, unlike certain other regions.

A grid start just compounds the misery in those first few corners. Especially in a car that's ten feet wide and steers like an oil tanker.

It's not fun fighting in the back, which is where I usually end up in these races. Plus it's slightly inflated at the moment due to me having an uncharacteristically good week at Spa last week. Even last night I had an uncharacteristically good race. Usually I finish around 15th or worse when I get thrown into even a "moderately stocked" Top Split race, so being 0.5s away from a Top 10 feels like a win.

Usually I'm a 3rd-split driver in North America, occasionally 2nd split depending on participation. Either way, 4k DR is a lot to lose via my usual method, which is just doing Daily Races without qualifying and seeing where I finish after racing from the back, so I'll probably just end up racing in Top Split again this weekend anyway. If participation is up, I might hopefully get bumped to 2nd split.

You drove great last night, don't cut yourself short on not being a higher split driver. Also, being in the faster splits will only improve your speed and race craft and you'll see better results as time goes on. This advice hasn't worked for me, but it's probably because I'm old and don't practice.

Had some pretty good races in Nations Cup last night. Missed first slot but raced in the next 3. My 2nd race (3rd slot) I got put into top split with only 43k dr. Pace was surprisingly good on my side. Qualified 7th and finished 11th. Would have been 10th but I felt like I made a bit of a dirty pass on Grove which gave him a 1sec penalty. Was going to let him pass to give place back but he ended up being a bit far back from me and I was still close to 2 cars in front. Figured he'd catch me by the end of the race, which he did. So I let him pass right after the last corner but had to be careful because someone was on his butt too. All in all a fun race though.

And then I found a second in my lap in time trial for my last race of the evening. Not sure if it was top split or not. 234 points for first, 40 less than last race. Qualified 5th with a 2:05.8. Mostly uneventful race after lap 1. Got up to 3rd after a couple laps and kept pace with 2nd. Maintained a 1.2-1.8sec gap. And then we battled for the last 2 laps. Got side by side in the high speed S's before big banky boy but had to back out after a couple of corners. Close finish for 3rd and my most points ever. Took 223 points for 3rd place.
