You know sometimes when you really hate this game? Yeah, that was last night.

I can relate, I only had time for the last slot and the level of driving was something else. I started P8 and through turn 1, I made light contact to someone at my side and they somehow saw it as malicious intent, sideswiped me off the track and the same person later quit lap 3 (I don't know why these people bother racing in the first place let alone reach SR 99) then I'm divebombed turn 2. By the time I recovered, I was last and 8 secs behind P19. I didn't leave the race however and still finished 13th because of disconnects and passing people that crashed with worn tyres.

If people didn't react to every tiny contact, races might be that much cleaner and unless it's a rolling start, I'm simply not going to bother qualifying anymore. It amazes me that people are still unable to remain calm and patient during lap 1 of a fairly long 13 lap race. No fix for all the dumb out there.

There ar some people who seem to have really good races with that guy, I have even had a couple of close lap battles with them when there was different tire strategies. Then they have the times where he just pushes everyone out of the way amd throws a tantrum.

I have the replay, might see what happened. Since I was at the total other end of the field I have no idea.

I think he's fine, and I've had run-ins with him before.

Most times with aggressive players you just have to fight fire with fire and they'll think twice about trying something next time

This season has started with a splat. Picked Aston for Manu cause I've never used a Brit manu. Anyway was in 4th on Dragon Trail with 4 laps to go and got disconnected, bummer. This week Nations, big smash up, down to last on lap 2, got back up to 14th by race end. Anyway I have a question:
During qualifying on FIA races, sometimes I'll do a couple laps and when I come across the line it says Finish, even though there is time left, as much as 2 minutes. Then I'll just sit there as almost everyone else gets to drive for 2 more minutes. I usually don't go back into pits after out lap unless I mess up. Some people go in after every qualifying lap and start again with another out lap. Does that matter? Thanks for reading.

After you've used up the stated amount of time that you have to qualify, the game then adds a generous amount of time (that differs depending on the track) on top of that so that everyone who was still on a qualifying lap when the time ran out can complete it. Once you've completed your lap using this "bonus time," you're finished with qualifying regardless of how much time you have left.

You jump back out after you set a qualifying time and jump back in because you can then do another lap on fresh tires. Tire wear is on in qualifying and you have the best chance of setting a good time on fresh rubber. I strongly advise it.

Makes sense. I always thought that they were wasting time doing another out lap, but since they are still qualifying after my time runs out I must be wrong. The more you know!

The idea is that you do a smooth outlap, hot lap and then get to pit for fresh tires. Repeat. The change in countdown is that you have to start your final hot lap before the original timer hits 0. If you start before the first time runs out you are given the time to finish that lap, like in F1. If the timer runs out before you get to the line then you are done.

After running a practice race where @Pigems , @Jwptexas , and @CJam also joined in, I'm torn between no-stopping and one-stopping. The person who finished in second pitted from second and I believe was on the tail on the leader at the end of the race. For me, I felt like my pace started dropping considerably in the second half of the race, which may also just be down to not tire saving enough. I also made some mistakes due to the worn tires, so maybe now that I know the limits better I can go the whole way, but I feel like it may be like the Nations race on Wednesday where pitting may actually be the better option depending on where your position on track is. I hate ambiguity haha

Can I just say that pitstop times are ridiculous if it's reasonable to make *four* stops in a 23 lap race and not end up miles behind.

They're way too short!

They are now that they've lengthened the races for Manu, could easily go back to the 20s+ stops. It made certain sense when they brought the shorter stops in to create some diverse strategies but with longer races, they need to go the other way

Or lower the multipliers

Even at 1x wear these pit times are essentially free. What's the consequence to making another stop unless you're neck and neck with someone?

If you're 5 secs ahead of someone you can pit any time you like as long as there's more than two or three laps left because you'll eat up the distance and pass on your fresh tyres...

Multipliers should maybe go down 1 or 2 steps on tyres for this season, but pit times need to go up by 20 seconds at least for them to matter.

Continuing from these posts (even tho it's a week ago, I don't live in this thread like some people ), I would like to see the gap between Medium and Hards reduced, and the Softs should be less durable. Watching F1 races this year I've been paying a lot more attention to the tyre strategies, and in most races teams would use Medium and Hard for many laps quite comfortably in the race. Whereas as we all know Hard tyres are to be avoided at all costs in GT land. Softs are pretty much quali tyres only, and on some tracks (like the Silverstone 70th Anniversary race), the Softs don't even last a single lap if you're pushing! Currently in GT the Softs give too much grip advantage (even almost half worn, they're still as fast as a fresh Medium) and they last far too long.

From my experience, each step softer tyre roughly lasts 0.7 x laps of the harder compound (e.g. if Meds last 10 laps, Softs last 7 laps for a particular multiplier). In terms of time gap, each softer compound is about -1 sec faster than the next one on an average track.

I'd like to see the Softs maybe last 0.5 x laps of the Medium, and the Hard only +0.5 sec off the Medium. Then we'll see more people trying to go long on Hards without too much time penalty. The Mediums will be a good general purpose race tyre. The Softs are only reserved for quali or if you are locked in a battle and cannot pass you can try gamble pitting a few laps before the end to force a pass with tyre advantage.

Many reasons why I'm skipping Monza:
1. Qualifying + Mandatory slip for good position
2. Turn 1 Punt City
3. I'm going to get 2000 track limit penalties at the second chicane
4. BS collision penalties.

Don't qualify, go full send in T1 and pause so you ghost through everyone and take P1 ;)

That actually explains it perfectly, thanks!

Okay, I'm starting 4th behind an RCZ, TT, 650S. A 650S is behind me. Thought I'd be way down the order. See how we go.

Edit:

Held FL for most of the race. Even ran P1 after the two 650Ss had an unintended punt. The one that got punted, won the race!

I pitted mid-race. No confidence once the red was above 3/4. I kept getting penalties. Even adjusting my BB and braking early. Even being cautious, I got penalties every lap after I pit. Allowed the TT to catch up and pass after we pit at the same time.

The M4 passed thanks to me.

I think the RCZ ran out of fuel. It passed me Lap 5(?) and pulled away.

Anyway, everyone were courteous. Seems to be good racing during this time.

So I finally didnt struggle massively or make a total fool out of myself.:D

Got into a lobby door 18 out of 19. Was steady in qualifying, but was about half a second off my practice laps prior to the race. Started p7 so it was good enough. I slide slightly into the first chicane and everyone bunches up behind me. Then slide out of the second chicane, they are closer. Buuuut, a bunch of them cut, so suddenly at the penalty zone I have almost a 2 second gap behind, and due to my slides a 2 second gap in front. I can just lap!

After a few laps someone in the lead group bins it and I slip to p6. Then another and I am p5? What? I just focus on smooth lines, steady braking and taking it easy while conserving tires and fuel. Lap 9 one of the spinners catches back up and I let him past down the front straight. Lap 10 he pits. Lap 11 I pit and come out p8. The guy who pitted previously spins at the second chicane and the other 2 are no stopping. I feel them in from 4 seconds back in another 2 laps while they fight like crazy. Get past them nice and smooth. From there it was trying to keep a steady line through to the end.

And I pretty much did. Made it home at p5 for my highest ever FIA score. Good outing for the old Shaguar. Although the number placement screws up the Shaguar logo, will have to adjust that.

Good racing to you all! Smooth sailing and no spins.:gtpflag:

Also, the moment I thought my good work was going to go to waste.

I usually race as much as I can. But because it's the off-season I am considering skipping tomorrow's Gr4 race at Monza, for this reason:

Surprisingly enough it was much faster to stay out of the tow for qualifying here. Might vary depending on the strength of the lobby you're in.

I made a fool of myself in a practice lobby with Bonelli and a few other top split Brazilian drivers in a practice lobby, when I completely missed my braking point in the slipstream, twice, and wiped out a few drivers.

Anyway in the actual race here I qualified P5 and finished P4, the top two were gone by lap 2 as P3 down had started to battle and lost time.

I managed to have a clean race, avoid penalties and finished P4. Was surprisingly fun actually.

Agree about qualifying alone. I was 3rd exiting the pits. Someone braked too late at T1. Reset before the chicane. Ran behind a Huracan, that slowed for me to pass after the second lesmo. It jumps behind me.

I paused and exited to the pits in last place. Set a P2 time. Dropped to P4 at the chequer, .435 slower than P1.

So, I wasn’t going to bother entering as I could only join the last slot and I assumed the points would be bad. Decided to do it and ended up in the highest ranked lobby I’ve ever been in! Of course that gave me door no.18.

Qualified 17th and decided that I was definitely out of my depth! The race was going well and I found myself up to 13th after a couple of laps until I got punted off at T1 and fell back to 17th. Worked my way back up to 13th a few laps later and then by lap 12 was into 11th. Made a couple of mistakes and dropped back to 13th so decided to pit. Everyone else was on a no stop! Had. 5.5 second gap to chase and just as I cut it down and rejoined the pack I made 3 track limit pens on the same damn lap picking up 3 seconds!! It then just spiralled out of control as I ended up getting punted off by some idiot in a VW who also punted off the car in front of me. Caught him back up and he pushed me off again at T1. Finished 15th as car in front run out of fuel on last corner. :grumpy:

Most are no-stopping, I just mis-managed my fuel on the first few laps.

A guy beat by 10s yesterday in practice race by no stopping a GTR, I kept thinking he’d at least have to out for fuel eventually, but he didn’t.

The fuel is fine, it's the worst in class tyre wear I'm worried about. Pit loss time looks to be about 7 or 8 seconds but it's only really the last 5 laps where the Nissan becomes undrivable. Here goes nothing, I guess.

Well today was certainly a better showing than Round 1.

Found myself seeded 3rd in the group. And after a good effort in slipstreaming on the opening hotlap snagged provisional pole. Only lost the pole when one of the last cars crossed the line, dropping me to 2nd.

Managed to avoid the chaos of Turn 1 and took the lead after getting a good run out of the Variante Ascari to drive past the pole winner down the back straight. Lost the lead on Lap 2 as he re-drafted me into Turn 1 only to retake it when he spun off at Variante della Roggia.

Ended up dropping behind a Lexus on Lap 5 and then behind a second after copping a Track Limits Penalty.

Pitted on Lap 11 for some fresh tyres and came out in 6th. Cycled back up to 3rd after the rest of the field pitted. A Mercedes caught up on the final lap relegating me down to 4th at the flag.
