door 14, midd B/S, qualified 9th, not really had a troublefree lap in qualifying. The race was not really that good. Normally my strength is consistency, especially at this track but I made too many small errors.
I am sure it was my lack of skill costing me today, the Peugeot was doing just fine. With a few laps to go i was still sixth but braked to late at the corckscrew and got a penalty, allowing 7th and 8th to go ahead.
So finished 8. Had i made fewer mistakes i could perhaps have had 6th place but the top 5 was way out of reach.

So not really happy with the race but happy with the points and closer to my goal; being in the top 50 for Peugeot, and looking forward to Suzuka.

I'm going to be honest, and it might be an unpopular opinion, but in terms of beauty in a modern racing car, nothing beats that Peugeot RCZ. Especially due to the fact the actual street car it's based off of is a bit bland (a gawdy TT clone).

As a virtual Peugeot driver i would have to say that I am happy to be inside of it; that way I do not have to see the outside. :yuck:
But i have grown quite found of it to be honest while driving it during this seriesand do like it now, but can never find it as pretty as many other cars in the Gr3 category.

But what I do like is that we all have different taste, and because of that we have so much different choises when it comes to picking a car, both in real life and in this game.

Additional: speaking of unpopular opinion about car looks: I have never liked the E-type Jaguar; pretty sure I am the only one in the world?

As luck would have it I was put in an easier split, and this time round got Pole, Fastest Lap and won the race with a 2 stop strat - 12 laps on softs either side of 1 lap Medium. I escaped T1 unscathed and struggled to pull away and had P2 on by behind always within 2-3 seconds always in the mirror but once I broke the spell I began to pull away and level out at around 10 seconds before the first pit stop.

That stop lost me 1st and after only 1 lap on Medium I came in again really wondering if this was the mistake that would lose me the race. I was now around 18 seconds behind 1st and didn't know if they were on Med/Soft or was on 1 or 2 stop. I was carving chunks out of their time on their worn tyres Vs my new softs, but I also knew this was my only chance to make time like that up, eventually I was down to a few seconds and realised I would have to pass them that lap, and they came in to the pits, and that must have distracted me as I broke too late and went off right before the straight, carrying way too much speed.

I recover crawling across the sand seeing the buffer I would have had disappear but still glad to be a couple of seconds ahead when I kept 1st place as the rival keeping me honest appears on fresh Mediums. Back to how it was at the start, but with a slight tyre advantage to me now. I was so glad to see them fight with 3rd place and get a penalty allowing me to finish a clear 10 seconds ahead. Been ages since I had a win!

Nice work on the videos! Production is getting better and better. Keep them coming.

Thanks for your support. Next one I think will be a 3 camera edit @KosmoKazi , I was skipping Race 8 but will be back for Laguna Seca.:gtpflag:

What laptimes did you run @Cerebral303

Viper @ Laguna Seca

Had a decent result in our practice ran on Monday, so I was confident I am able to put in a decent result. Was #10 in the lobby and put a 20.6 which was good enough for P6.

I started carefully, not really concerned about the pace, but more to not make mistakes. The two McLarens in P2 and P4 lost it in the Corkscrew in consecutive laps so I found myself in P4 chasing P3. Was doing good first 6-7 laps but then my times started dropping and was beginning to lose time to both P3 and the cars behind. One of the cars behind was a Corvette, I let him through in the hope he will be battling the other Viper in front allowing me to catch up. I was right, he made short work of it and got through but my pace was not that good.
I was still in P5 in lap 16, being hounded by two cars and decided to pit for mediums. Got out back in P7 but gained one position right away next lap when the car in front pitted. I managed then to catch up the white viper from before and made a sweet pass by holding the outside in t1 and completing the move on the inside in t2. P5 and started to attack the Portuguese in the Subaru that made a brilliant undercut gaining 3 positions in the process. I hounded him for about 6 laps while keeping a purple Jag at bay(at around 8-9 tenths). In lap24 he made a small mistake at the left hander before the run to Corkscrew and I tried to close in for the move but misjudged the power of slipstream and brake to late in the Corkscrew. Managed to keep it on the road but the failed move allowed the Jag to move past me. I did not take any risk in the last lap and took P6 and 179p.

I am now with 938p, so in the last race I need to score at least 163points to improve.

I was getting low 1:24's consistently driving 9/10 and not on the ragged edge, and qualifying/fastest laps in the 1:23's but I am a D rated driver and even then I can see extra time I could have but went for consistency and didn't practice for this and my cat started .... (think that's enough excuses! :D)

I did note that the Mediums I was on for one out lap were a nice improvement from laps 10-12 on the soft tyres so maybe a 10-5-10 strat might work out faster.

That was a very fun race. Was joined by @KosmoKazi and @afc5150 in a very solid room. Qualified 10th. Respectable. And the race was very strong. The Mazda was the car to beat on the softs as I was able to work up to 6th before the pit cycle and the switch to mediums just killed all momentum. But I mean it. From the hairpin to the corkscrew, either I just had the line nailed, or the car was just on, but was able to just stick to the Aston in front of me lap after lap through that section (though the section is a bit tough to overtake on). Ended up 8th but had 5th in view. I was happy.

FIAGTC 2020-2021 Exhibition Season
Manufacturers Series
Race #9 - Gr3 / WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

I have to admit that I am just lost at Laguna Seca, particularly in the 911 RSR. Struggled with FP, qualified about where I practiced, started 17th. Worked like hell to keep up with the field on Mediums, just planning to run a no-stop and take what comes to me. Made my job harder by nearly binning it on the last corner of the track, before the green flag, then played catch-up (or not) all race while feeling like I had tied and anchor to the car, or there was something blocking the gas pedal from hitting the floor.

Worked my way up to 13th or 14th, was getting swarmed by a crowd after that, either on Softs or just all over me because I was slow as hell, got punted in T6 (why do people think that's a passing spot? Yeah, you can carve a bunch of time off your run up the hill, but there's not room for two on that kink of an apex... WTH? He did let me past and served a penalty after, but still...) and then just labored to the finish. Not fun at all.

While it would have been fun to compete better, with @afc5150 @HaydenFan69 @Granadier (sneaking around on the alt!) ...I just stink for pace at this track. Total waste as far as FIA points, cost me 1000 DR, and I entered with a 99 SR so the CRB was useless. Not going to even try again, will practice for the Nations race the rest of the night I guess.

Porsche 911 RSR (991) '17
Qualified: 17th
Race Finish: 17th (54 useless pts)
Door #13 (-1000 or so DR... everything I gained last race, I guess)

Obligatory Corkscrew Picture. Even with lucky number 13, a pretty bad showing for me.

More or less last place of those who were still running at the end.

Got a great race tonight. Unlike Saturday, I was racing people of similar DR level this time. @CurbHog was in with me too. I qualified 5th and started on soft tires.

On the first lap, things did get a bit messy. P2 spun out at Rahal and a McLaren 650S went into the side of me while going down the Corkscrew. Fortunately, I didn't get taken out and the McLaren backed off after hitting me, so it wasn't intentional. I'm in 4th after all of this.

Starting on lap 2, I was chasing down a Renault driver who I was soon close enough to make a pass on, which isn't easy to do on this track. I got a run on them on the main straight a couple of times, but it wasn't enough to get by. But on lap 9, I was right on their bumper coming out of the final corner, and managed to get past them transitioning into lap 10, and I climbed up to 3rd.

From there, I had no other drivers to race against. It was all about keeping consistency and not binning it. On lap 20, I pitted for the mediums and joined back into the race in 4th. A Viper also came out of the pits in front of me on lap 22, but I couldn't make my way around them. I held my position until the end.

One and done, and I'm glad because this race was on the longer side. I got my highest score this season as well, which is good since I'll be passing on the final Manufacturer round at Suzuka. I also think it's safe to put Laguna Seca in the list of my stronger tracks. I've gotten good results every time I raced here.

One and done for me. Took me a while to find any rhythm, I like the track and feel consistant enough but can't seem to squeeze out better times in the AMG. She's a weird one for me, like the car, find it easy to drive but just can't match the times I do with other vehicles.

Came into a high lobby with #20 on the door and was in with @csmirnoff and @Winnie847. In Qualifying I finally grabbed a slipstream but turned out to be the wrong guy to chase. He was all over the place, I had to slow down a couple times and he eventually binned it. Went out by myself for the remaining tries and started P17. All to do and I was aiming for a top ten, didn't get much practice due to work but knew I would be consistant enough.

Race started and someone binned it before crossing the start line so a bonus position straight off the bat, come to the end of lap 2 and I completly 🤬
my braking point, punted Mr. Smirnoff into a Mustang sending the dude into the realm of shadows. Fortunatly @csmirnoff survived and he had a battle the next few laps with the infamous PXcam20 . The rest of the race was basically me trying to keep it on track, keep consistant and hope to profit in other peoples misfortune....and that I did. Think I only legitimately overtook one guy and made my places through people pitting and throwing themselves off. Finished P9 for 140 ish points gained 8 places and a small slice of DR, that'll do for tonight.

Put together a video from one of the truly crazy races from last season's FIA Manufacturers. It was penalties galore in the top split of ANZ! Very close racing and lots of fun. Utter madness in the last few laps.

NA Slot 1 with my McLaren, together with @CJam and @Winnie847. I had almost no practice other than 4-5 laps in TT so it was more of a practice race for me. And it was indeed a disaster. P16 in qualy. In the race, I had decent pace (4 tenths off fastest lap of the race with 10-lap old tyres) but ended up binning it and finished at the back...

Decided to go again for Slot 2, with my McLaren team mate @CurbHog. This time I qualified P8. My best sectors of the session would have left me P4.

In the race, I moved up to P5 in the first laps due to incidents ahead. Unfortunately, I made a really bad strategic choice, starting on the mediums. Only lost one position during the stint, until an impatient soft-runner went for a move at the quick right-hander at the beginning of the second sector, and I obviously ended in the sand, dropping to P10. :banghead:

To make things much worse, I pitted on lap 7 to try to recover places with an undercut, and came out right into a lot of traffic. Lost about 10 seconds until I managed to overtake 3 drivers that were defending from me as if fighting for race win, while I was on fresh softs. :ouch: And I even went for a move which wasn't fully on and bumped a guy wide, which cost me another 4 seconds as I waited to return the position... Until I finally got to clean air, it was an absolute :censored:nightmare.

In the end, once everyone pitted and few drivers binned it, I was up in 6th place. Had a few guys starting to catch me in the end as I did 18 laps on my softs, but managed to nurse the tyres home in P6. Considering I finished just 14 seconds off the winner's time... I think I could have been in the battle for the win if I nailed the strategy. :nervous: Guess I was lucky to finish 6th under the circumstances, however.

Today was actually just wild in retrospect!

Came in first slot feeling meh about the Beetle and meh physically as well, but managed to pull off pole and a win in NA third split (thanks to my recent Gr2 Spa reset) by 1s against @Winnie847 and some of the GTP and FIA homies for 216 points! At that point I knew the car had some decent potential as I didn't even start losing lap pace on the softs until around 15 or so (only pitting on 18 to avoid getting undercut), and I went back in for slot 2 all pumped up hoping to move up to second split. I did and after getting a chonker 1:20.2 in qual for P1 with one minute remaining, my gigabit fiber connection decided to suddenly dump out during for the first time ever leaving me down SR and DR. Slot 3 I took a pole again in second split and won the race for 215. There was seriously no reason to keep going but I wanted to try and take a crack at the remaining top split players and try and boost up my DR, so I went back in for slot 4. I knew by then that both my pace and the car were rock solid (1:20.9-1:21.7 softs, 1:21.5-1:22.5 mediums) and managed to put up both third in qual and P3 in the race behind Grove and todally_lit by 2s and 1s respectively for a nice 223 pointer! Not my biggest point result ever or anything but finishing 1-2s behind frequent Top 16 Superstars drivers in a 35 minute race felt unbelievably good.

Last week's Nations race really left me doubting my ability to do much other than put up luckbox grindy hotlaps from time to time, but today I felt like I actually "belonged" (i.e. was able to drive on pace and not mess anything up for anyone or cause people to get impatient) in the race I was playing in; honestly, a rarity ever since I started making the higher splits this season for the first time. Great times and really looking forward to the last race at Suzuka where the Scirocco should be a beast. Nations on the other hand...let's just say I need some practice. :)

Sometimes GT really makes you wonder why you put up with its most infuriating aspects, but then days like I had today can make it all worthwhile again and remind you that the game every now and then can be absolutely amazing and full of pure enjoyment.

Slot 2, Door no. 17, so another opportunity to get a nice chunk of DR on my snail like ascent back to A.

Ran a good qualy and put myself on pole. From there, it's all about consistency at Laguna. I stayed on track and scored a win in the Yeetle. Looking forward to Gr1 at LeMans and Suzuka, hopefully I'll come out of those two as a DR A.

Last night's recap:

Slot 1
Qualified 18th in 2nd Split after failing to get a good lap together, finished 15th after also struggling for pace in the race. I spun the car 90 degrees on the final corner in the middle of the race, but even without that mistake, I would've finished 14th at best.

Slot 2
After having major problems with braking and turning consistency in the first race, I dialed the brake bias forward from +5 to +4, and suddenly found several tenths per lap. This Split was somewhat less stacked than the previous one, so that did make it a bit easier to be competitive, but my qualifying time was 0.3s quicker than my previous race as well, and was good enough to put me 4th on the grid, just in front of @Winnie847. While my brake bias adjustment did a lot to help my consistency, I still struggled with hitting my marks every lap, and it only took a few laps before I overshot my braking into T1, giving @Winnie847 a chance to pass. I could've held it around the outside, but I didn't fight it, because I knew he would be more consistent and the pressure of trying to keep him behind, combined with trying to keep the car out of the sand/gravel for 25 laps when I was basically guessing at every braking point, would've been too much for me to focus on. Long story short, I finished 5th for 196 points, which makes this my lowest score of my 5 this season. Not bad, but hopefully I can knock this one out with a good result at Suzuka.

Qualifying continues to be the single largest hinderance to achieving good results in the FIAs. At Laguna, I was a full second off my FP time and lined up 16th or so. My race pace and strategy both seem solid, and I had decent enough pace, made some good passes and my strategy of 18S/7M paid off as I made up 7 positions to finish 10th. Unfortunately, the 102 points wasn't enough to add to my total, and as I'm back to work these days, I can't really run more than one slot on Wednesdays.

The biggest positive, though, was it was a good CLEAN race throughout the field. I've said it before, but I play this game to have fun, of course I want to be competitive but never at the expense of someone else's enjoyment. Nothing worse than looking forward to a certain race combo only to have it jacked up by someone impatient, dirty or ultra aggressive.

On to La Sarthe! Really looking forward to this one. What car to use? I'm thinking the 787B might have to make a screaming appearance.

Good luck and clean racing to you all!

@Granadier (sneaking around on the alt!)
I've been spotted!

Since I made the mistake of signing with Ferrari on my main account I have been running Nations instead. But I took the opportunity to sign with BaeMW on my alt so I could enjoy some of the Manu rounds as well. It's led to some really great racing with last night's race being a major highlight.

After unceremoniously driving myself into a barrier on lap 1 in the first slot race with @KosmoKazi I entered the second slot and got into a lobby with @CurbHog. Started P3 behind a Citroën and a Toyota. The Citroën driver struggled to control their car and quickly fell back into third place on lap 1 which left me and the Toyota to play follow-the-leader for another 24 laps. The Toyota driver had really good pace so I decided to fall in behind and just put in some laps to make a gap behind us. It worked for the most part. Outside of a couple braking mistakes I made at the Corkscrew the race was almost exclusively just bumper to bumper battling. When it came time to pit the Citroën undercut us and after everyone was on fresh medium tires they had a decent gap. Unfortunately the lack of control bit them in the end and they went off through turn 4 into the dirt which left Toyota with 1st and myself with 2nd.

Here's the video replay, (which I even broke out a bit of editing for!) :gtpflag:

Ah, I had no idea that alt account was you, @Granadier! Only recognized @CurbHog from :gtplanet: in that race.

I ran in slot one with you as well @Granadier. I'd never seen that ID before and was pretty anxious. I think we were around each other for a bit early on...I'll have to watch the replay now!

I was able to hold him off for a lap or two, but eventually he got by. Knew I’d seen that BMW livery before on this site, didn’t realize that either.

Ok, anyone finding any major differences with the Group C cars for some sort of advantage saturday? Ran a bunch of laps last night as my head is completely out of it right now. Couldn't find my turn in with the Porsche despite riding the hell out of it for a long while. 787 felt really good for me again, and the Sauber just wasn't right.

I'm looking to see how the R92 is because I dont even think I own it. Also looks like a straightforward 1 stop?

Sauber turns a bit better and has better acceleration, but it has heavy tire wear and lacks top speed.

787B has good acceleration, but its top speed will give the Sauber a hard time. Its downside is that it is more understeery.
