Ugh, I love Renault and Alonso, but hate Briatore. If it weren't for him, Trulli would still be Alonso's teammate. Those two were such a great combination. I'd take Trulli over Fischella any day.

My wife and I were discussing this. Alonso going to McLaren means a few things (if you think about it)...

- Renault is leaving F1, thus Alonso needed a confirmed race seat at a top team...
- The top teams are Ferrari, Toyota and McLaren...
- Kimi is all but signed at Ferrari, thus Alonso had no seat there
- Schumi is most likely signed with Toyota, thus no seat there (and why they are jerking Trulli around)
- Honda, Williams, Red Bull are all options, but maybe not for a world champion....Red Bull seems a better fit for JPM than Alonso...

I still can't figure out why Flavio wasn't clued in...that one still confusses me.

Or retire...

I think Toyota will try to get JPM if he is booted off the McMerc ship..

No way!

You know what a Schumi Sr./Schumi Jr. combo would do for the Toyota board and the like.

Who is JPM to Toyota...just a chubby guy who can't play tennis

I he was he’d have very conflicting interests. On the one hand, he gets a percentage of Alonos pay, and clearly with the new Vodaphone sponsorship, McLaen can pay World Champion salery, Renault cannot. On the other hand, he manages the Renault F1 Team – how would the board of directors look at him after he sold off their star driver?

I’ll just throw this out there for fun: What if he was involved in this deal, and he’s just protecting his own interests by taking the defensive “I didn’t know anything about it” stance? :sly:

On your things, my opinions are:
- Yep
- Yep, although I think that Honda's investment will start to pay off in 07.
- Don't agree. I think Kimi's holding out for the $$$ and has not yet signed anything.
- No. I think M.Schu will retire for 07. I certainly don't think he'll go to Toyota. I think Toyota will be talking to Kimi's people, and think he could actually end up there. And he'll ****ing DESTROY Ralf.
- JPM + Red Bull a strong possibility.

On the Flavio minus Clue issue: Alonso's management contract with Flav expires at the end of 06. Flav reputedly takes some 30-40%, which is a fair whack, and means that Alonso's actual earning power is quite seriously reduced, which will be irking him somewhat. Ron is hugely canny and will have used this to help him win over Alonso. I think he handed Alonso a simple contract, mentioned a massive number, and that was that.

Looks like Alonso is off spending his money already.

So, Flavio could just be acting this way to hide from Renault the possibility he knew about the deal , since he gets a big chunk of the deal money. Hmmmm... interesting view of the situation...

But, why would Alonso tell him about the deal? Manager, or not, Alonso could have, and probably did, keep it from him, so he wouldn't need to share the deal money with him. The new digs says so, otherwise.

Does F1 require a manager with business deals such as these, like with other professional sports?
