What do you expect the Power Pack DLC will cost?

Fair enough. I remember call of duty having DLC, people in here say it was a bad model and it backfired on them. I usually used to buy it and never had a problem with that. I even looked forward to it. It felt like it was a lot of new maps and zombies content.

Now that game updates for free and constantly to the point it’s annoying. It’s riddled with more skins and garbage like that then game content haha.

It’s been pointed out they’re constantly scanning cars and putting them out there instead of holding them back. In a way they aren’t free then. These cars were always intended to be in the game but they just arrive when they arrive. We paid for the full game in advance instead of a discounted price and we get delivered what the full game was intended to be drip fed to us.

Like that one gps track making feature in GT6 they announced. That was a main selling feature for me, I never saw it I expected it on day one not however long it took to show up. I had moved on from the game. Apparently it did eventually make it to the game but a lot of other better racing games already released. Point being, you pay full price but you get the full game after the fact. Like buying a car and you bought the Air Conditioning option but it will simply unlock a year later.

I agree 100%. It’s the best Gran Turismo has ever had. Still doesn’t make it good.
Where does this idea that the cars were always intended to be in the game come from? I can't tell you what you should be thinking, but I can tell you that from my point of view that sounds completely absurd. By that logic, we might as well start arguing that every car PD develops for the next 10 years should've been part of GT7. It's just as arbitrary, so why not?

That depends entirely how you define 'best' and what qualities you apply to rank or rate that.
I said "one of the best", not simply "best". Yes, of course, "best" in something personal. Some people love horrible games.

Disputing that it's "one of the best" seems a little ridiculous given the broad success of this game, both culturally and financially.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you haven't spent any significant amount of time with the custom races. You may have done 1 low effort attempt. Maybe you've tried a "quick race". Am I correct?

I say this because the current implementation of Sophy, when set up correctly, is one of the best examples of racing game AI (there's that "one of the" declaration again), and I've played a bunch of these games over my 57 years of life. Not to mention that the players have access to make the races as they wish. Does it have issues? Sure, but to say that it isn't good can only be made from a position of ignorance regarding the current state of the feature.

Are you saying the game should have released with every car that could have possibly been scanned included? I don't understand your reasoning...there's always going to be more cars to scan...the game could have released with the 500 or so cars that were available then and just kept it that way I guess. Would that have been better?

Nobody is forced to buy a game on release day. We can wait a day or two and learn that the feature we considered the main selling feature isn't actually in the game yet and choose not to buy for that reason.
Possibly. It would/should mean GT8 would release with even more content. That’s just the way console gaming seems to work these days. With our PS4 Pro’s and our PS5 Pro’s blurring the line between this gen and next gen consoles.

Imagine that, GT8 has everything GT7 has plus more since apparently the scanned cars and tracks can been used in either game quite easily. Or so I was told.

Nobody forces you to buy anything. I’m an adult I know that. But maybe developers should be upfront about features. I had to fight to get an answer out of S4 on whether Trueforce was actually supported on day one and got banned for my efforts but they finally truthfully answered the question. Maybe for expected features not on day one, developers should say, we’re aiming for GPS tracking track maker to be available one year after release.

Somebody mentioned it to me. That they’re always scanning cars and working on them so it’s possible they just don’t want to hold it back for GT8.

I spent awhile trying to set up a trans am one, it may have not been this latest AI I am not sure. But it wasn’t 1 low effort attempt. I tuned all the cars, one got out front, I’d move it to the back, or retune it. It felt like constantly chasing my tail. Maybe it wasn’t with the latest Sophy, but I spent enough time in the other to just get fed up, bad taste in my mouth and not bother. Not my job to do their job for them.

Sure I may have to have another go at it with Sophy 2.0 or whichever one we’re on. It’s weird that I could get a single player race setup in Project Cars much faster using that difficulty slider than tuning “my” cars in certain ways to try and accomplish the same thing.

It's coming out next week, do we have any idea when we will find out the price?

To me it makes no sense to release a game and then continue to work on after the fact. Why not throw it all at the game and then release it and move on? I might be missing something there but to sell a product and then have to continually cater to your customers in a way doing warranty work continually seems odd. Better off just doing the job right in the first place no?
There's three big reasons why video games of all genres are moving to constant support of games rather than spaced out big box releases.

One is cost - it costs more now to make a game than ever before (especially in the US), and games take longer to make than ever before. Only having one big influx of income every 5-6 years is no longer a sustainable way of running a studio, as one commercial failure just completely kills you. So keeping your audience around and engaged to sell DLC/microtransactions to gives you more consistent, stable income to keep your studio afloat and your devs employed.

Two is aspirational - the biggest moneymakers in the genre are all services (and "proper" services with everything monetised, not just GT's otherwise-unpaid content feed). Executives see Fortnite's financials and how many buy the battle passes of the sports games every year and go "yes I would like that too please".

And three is younger audiences' expectations - for anyone who was high school age or under in 2020, video games are social experiences first now. They (and related things like Discord) are just are how you spend time with people. There's much less interest in solo, finite experiences in younger audiences, there's the expectation there that they can hang out with their friends (or the streamer they watch and their fellow fans) in a familiar environment that gets new stuff to explore but is also comfortable and familiar. Think of going to the park with your friends - it was always cool when a new thing showed up at the park, but there wasn't any desire to go somewhere different every week. In this analogy, video games are the parks, and DLC is the new stuff showing up.

Somebody mentioned it to me. That they’re always scanning cars and working on them so it’s possible they just don’t want to hold it back for GT8.
That they're always working on cars is something I can easily believe, since PD is always working on the next Gran Turismo in some way or another. But I don't see how this supports your argument that those cars were intended for GT7. If anything, that would support the argument that all that additional content is intended for the next GT game, and whatever portion of it has been released as free updates in GT7 is something we should all appreciate and never take for granted.

Point being, you pay full price but you get the full game after the fact. Like buying a car and you bought the Air Conditioning option but it will simply unlock a year later.
I dont think you bought GT7 in 2022 (or whenever you purchased it) with Yas Marina, the Power Pack, the Unimog, the 992 Turbo, Eiger Nordwand, the Toyota GT One etc.. You bought GT7 with whatever it came with back when you bought it.

Correct me if im wrong but none of that new content was promised or advertised by PD when they released the game, right? Maybe they talked about future/regular updates but no details.

The car example does not work here in my opinion because you never chose those options/additional features when you ordered/purchased GT7.

Also: Sometimes you buy a new car (GT7) and then realize you like the previous model better. You cannot buy a Golf 8 and then complain that the materials and overall quality were better in the Golf 7 (my opinion). Dont buy it then. Or live with it.

I don't see any reason to think GT8 won't have everything GT7 has plus more. I'd imagine GT8 will have all the cars that are in GT7, plus a few new additions, and then more will be added over that games life span. I don't see how GT7 releasing with 500 cars, never getting another one added over it's 7 year (or whatever) life span, and then GT8 releasing with 540 cars and never getting another one added is a better option...

I think Nakano219 cleared it up for me. It’s just how things are now. I’m old school, I’d buy a game. Play it until I got what I wanted out of it and move on.

These days you play it, your disappointments can technically be addressed through updates and the squeaky wheel usually gets the grease. Squeaky wheels join forces and carve out what may get fixed or added to the next release.

When you’re drip fed new content it helps brew up in your mind what it could be rather than what it is. So every monthly update of new cars everyone really hopes for that one car to make an arrival but it never does. You see what’s in the update and think why on earth was that chosen over all these other cars were missing?! Similar to the roulette showing you what was on the table to win. It leads to disappointment to see it just go past that million every time to get your $10,000.

On the point of holding it back for GT8. I’d be fine with that. What you don’t know can’t hurt you. Sure I can be disappointed with the game in its released state, but then it’s up to me to decide if I want the next game. Instead we’re constantly in a hoping for state of mind, in my opinion.

Anyway that’s just the way it is now. Feels like it anyway. Buy a game… this is it?! No there more coming… oh ok… oh that’s all it is? No there’s more coming yet… oh ok.

I bought it expecting updates because they advertised that. That can be whatever it means in your mind because they don’t give you a list they tease. So in a way it’s all in hopes and dreams is it not? If they forecast the update details that change things a lot doesn’t it.

No way they try selling 30€ DLC. The price of GT7 ingame credits in PS store has always been a joke. I doubt no-one buys it as its relatively easy to grind. For that reason and the fact some people seem to forget that power pack doesnt include ANY cars/tracks (which is a good thing), I'd guess something in the lines of 14,79€. And even with that they are pushing it as the DLC seems to have zero value for online players. Good price for this "campaign update" would be around 8,90€ - they should prioritize sold quantity over price per unit.
2,90€

I'm 100% aligned with this, and personally expecting it to cost $39.99 USD (which I'm happy to pay Sony and PD for their continued investment in improving and supporting GT7).

I'm in the glass half-full camp, and the Spec III update plus the Power Pack DLC have me genuinely excited for a few more years of continuing to enjoy GT7 almost daily.
I totally agree too. The only thing is, I expect the price to be as low as $49.99.

Cultural and/or financial success is not an indicator of quality or being "one of the best".

I cite Justin Beiber as exhibit A.
So am I to infer by your statements that you believe Gran Turismo is an awful game? Is it mediocre? Is it passable?

I'm not sure where the argument is with my statement. Again, given this is a Gran Turismo thread, on a Gran Turismo forum, on a website named after Gran Turismo, you'll forgive me if I am a little confused by the implication that this game/franchise is somehow lackluster.

If it's not "one of the best" is it one of the rest??? 🤔 Like, I saw the post about The Crew Motorfest and it's forum seems pretty quiet. Doesn't seem popular.

You can get a race set up VERY quickly. Pick a car, pick one make, and off you go, or you can let the game chose your opponents. It's very quick. Just remember to turn on the weak boost, which is the difference between what you experienced and what most of the custom race people experience.
There's no need to get down and dirty into the creation of a custom race. It is time consuming, but it is also rewarding. It's the answer for everyone who says 'Why don't they add a (enter name here) series???". I believe that custom races have made me a better Sport Mode racer. It's REALLY good, but could be improved.

It's still highly subjective. Personally, I rate GT3-6 as better games than GT7. GT7 is measurably better in some areas sure, but to me, it's not the better game than those others. Other people may disagree, and they are absolutely right to do so if they are so inclined. But when something is completely subjective, you will get wildly different opinions.
So am I to infer by your statements that you believe Gran Turismo is an awful game? Is it mediocre? Is it passable?
Since when were the only choices "one of the best" and "mediocre"?

If you want to establish GT7 is undeniably "one of the best" you have to establish the criteria by which you are measuring it. Subjectively, it can both be one of the best and not depending on who you ask.

To your point, you're on a site named after Gran Turismo. People don't think to come here to talk about other racing games.

Passable would seem fair, it's certainly not (for me) one of the best.

I'm not sure where the argument is with my statement.
That's quite simple, I dont agree with your ranking of it as one of the best and I explained why.

I also pointed out (as @Dave A has), that it depends on how you define 'best'.

No idea why the existence of this forum can be taken to mean one can't be critical of GT7? That's an odd take to have to say the least.

BTW try the following URL www.forzaplanet.net/forum it's been a long time since this place was just about Gran Turismo.

Which has what to do with what exactly?

For the small minority like myself who own a PS5 but hate the Dualsense controller. You'll finally be able to use your PS4 controller to play PS5 games!
I already have there adapters for PS2/PS3 and they work great. So pumped for this since I'll be able to get that DLC now for GT5.

Well for me is the best Playstation controller ever, more solid, ergonomic and the technology.

Fair enough, the one make bugs me. I’d like to have a muscle car race not run a bunch of Z28’s. Can you tune the cars or does it only work with stock form vehicles. Is that the AI gets sports tires still a thing or certain cars get different tires?

Impressive, considering they advertised the new physics in the trailer and update notes when they added them to the game. It was a pretty big deal!
Feels the same to me.

I think the Platinum that is mentioned in the article is just a Platinum bar that is worth 5 mil. In most games, Platinum is worth more than Gold.

I don't think Platinum means anything else special.

Although the one thing that doesn’t make sense is why some cars disappeared from another game. I faintly remember maybe the Alfa carrazzato being dropped from GT6 while being in GT5. Might not be that car, my memory isn’t great, but it was a premium car in GT5 and it was gone for GT6.
Licences are time limited, just because you have a licence for a particular car in one title doesn't mean you can use it in future titles or will even be able to licence it again.

Yeah I know that. Not going to research it but I’m pretty sure the brand was still in the game unlike Lotus, it just didn’t have the one car any more. For the life of me I can’t remember what car it was that was missing. I could have sworn it was the Alfa but maybe it wasn’t there on launch and then they brought it back later in the games lifecycle because it lists that in GT6 car list.

Anyhow it doesn’t matter that much. Typical PD stuff, a lot of the times it baffles me and there’s a whole lot of people on here that defend things they do (doesn’t mean I have to agree with them) I guess they just understand Kaz’s “vision” a little better than I do. Or they’re just fanboys. Either way I’m still playing the game, I just wish they had a direct suggestion box for some ideas.

People are expecting this DLC to be $20 to $30? That’s nuts. I am expecting $9.99.
im baffled by all the chat/speculation/arguement about the price.. the ones who want it will buy it, the ones who think its too pricey will get it after FOMO sets in, and the ones on PS4 will keep searching for reasons why they “didnt even want it anyway” 🤷‍♂️
