I'm with others who said "TDU" or "TDU2".
I have TDU2, and yes, it is an arcade game, the physics sucks, the cars handling and camera movement sucks too, but it is a lot of fun if you just want to buy cars and go out speeding around a huge island with unique landscapes and weathers.

It was amazing doing a free "follow the leader" with my friends back on the launching day of the game, no racing, no positions, no points or scores, no winners or losers, just friends enjoying their cars as they were made to be, at high speeds.

It would be amazing to see a GT Open World, imagine never ending highways with the physics and car variety of GT. Would be awesome...

TDU with Gran Turismo car range does sound good, I would hope that PD make their own unique free-roam, listening to the users so that they don't create something horrible like the paint chip system :grumpy:

We're still moving with an 85% acceptance rate :).
Please do show your support by voting for tbe idea with the link in the OP, but also right here do feel free to contribute ideas please, thanks all :).

I love this idea. Not only will it be really fun, it could also draw more people in to Gran Turismo. If it does happen ,and I really hope it does, there's no way it could be dlc. This would be big enough to be its own game, well that's what I would do if I ran Polyphony. Although, I think people are asking a little too much when it comes to no racing. Considering that most rooms online are either for Drag racing of Drifting, racing is to be expected, things like traffic and cops would only add to the excitement. In the end, it's just a game. I think we should be allowed to raise a little hell. especially if it helps keep racing off of the streets.

The first thing that comes in mind when I hear this is...
MODSPOT.
Though if you were able to walk around the area (and not get ran over by a crazy driver! :scared: ), this would be nice.

But wouldnt it make it more like need for speed?

I dont think so there is more to need for speed than open world tdu2 has open world and is nothing like need for speed.

PD would be entering new territory if they were to include a free-roam, I think it would be a wise decision for them to integrate it into a Gran Turismo title in order for them to get a taste of what the community of players think of it.

As for traffic, we have already mentioned that it most probably wouldn't be included, because the inclusion means that we would be street-racing (illegal?), which is not where the concept came from, also we couldn't imagine PD would endorse street-racing.

I was playing an Xbox indie game while back that gave the host a tool to run super speed and freeze trolls if need be, I imagine this would be good for enforcers, ability to freeze them temporarily while making decision as to keep them or not.
I myself probably would not like it if you have to follow rules, it would be best to have that as a room setting. Traffic, pedestrians, cops and laws should be room settings. The ability to have private matches within the main lobby would be nice( start race from on point to other, option to join pops up on all screens, and the racers are in an alternate reality so to speek so no one gets disturbed.)
They could feature a mountain pass Hiway that goes deep into the mountain area where rally would take place, and along the pass would be a network of logging roads, this would be great fun for rally guys. Obviously there would be just fields and off road areas for people who enjoy the trucks and such. Rouge and drift can take place on the foothills leading to the mountains. Another nice feature would be fantasy local tracks, small dirt rings and proper motor parks sort of like the skateparks on skate, just place here and there around there world. And depending on if this is in gt6 or gt7 or later you can have your own world sorta with which it has "lots" for you to design your own track lay out,

I don't want free roam but I do want point to point. (NFS Porsche style).

Point to point (NFS style) with "invisible" walls is basically like a track with barriers. Point to point like Midnight Club or Test Drive, where advantages can be given to those who know their way around the best, is more immersive in my opinion.

I agree to about 20% of that. If PolyPhony Did that, GT5 would be ruined. With these things, Gran Turismo 5 will lose it's focus on the joy of driving and pure motorsport challenges.
The idea that I disagree the most is having pedestrians. There are spectators already on the track side. Just putting pedestrians on the street just makes no sense to what Gran Turismo is suppose to be. With the amount and stability of servers on GT5, these features will just weigh upon GT5.
I just don't think GT5 should be like this, nor GT6, 7, 8 etc.

If I remember right, at the release of GT5, Kazunori said that he maybe will make a free ride, where people obey traffic laws and can exit the car? Not sure if I was dreaming :D Anyone else remember something like this?

E: Yes, I found it. ''Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.''

Well it might just be me, but I would be quite surprised if we could free roam like in Need For Speed. Would be very unlike Kaz to implement a free roam like in the NFS games.

Speaking of which, the free roam that Kaz had in mind where you obey traffic laws and speed limits have also given me an excellent 💡 .

Since Gran Turismo series have always claimed of being "The Real Driving Simulator", why not put realistic driving licenses into the game along with free roam? No, not racing license tests, road driving tests. That would make this free roam complete in my opinion and would probably raise the rate of license passes depending on how many people look towards Gran Turismo to practice for their license tests. I know I would when I am old enough to start taking tests.

Yeah, that's great idea. Maybe we could get unique license plates too :)

This was mainly ideas for the currently discussion, I wouldn't want pedestrians either, but others did. I was trying to sum up everyone's ideas in the best way possible. I'd rather have a proper racing track game before this, but if they were to incorporate a free roam that's how I'd prefer it be done, with as much user customization and control as possible. But GT should first and foremost ALWAYS be track racing game, anything like this being secondary.

However I must admit, blasting through Oregon and/or washington's logging roads in an EVO would be a wonderful experience on GT5.

Edit: sorry about double post

Well that's depressing, I couldn't imagine a mode where players aren't able to fully enjoy their cats being popular :dunce:

To all GTP members viewing this thread, compare the quoted idea to the OP idea and give me some feedback please. :(

of course im agree... small tropical island with 4 seasons is already awesome :D

don't forget if it can offline too

i hope it will like driver san francisco where there's people walking around the island but we can't kill them

This would be the best thing to happen to racing games since.... Ever!

Problem is Forza Horizon is going to do this, I also remember the guy (can't remember his name) who is the CEO or something of polyphony digital that he wanted do implement something like this but it was too time consuming and costly.

Instead of free roam there should be famous locations/routes you can drive on. Tail of the Dragon, The Rendezvous, WRC tarmac rally parts.. Easier to do than modeling entire city, even fictional one.

Pedestrians or not, shouldn´t be the main focus of a freeroam mode, I would apreciate it but it´s not important.

What´s important imo is that it works offline; ^^ i agree. With AI traffic, but this AI must be a really good one. It must behave very natural and "intelligent", as far as its possible.

So I could live with a freeroam w/out pedestrians, but not without AI traffic. Cruising around in a Ghost-Town I can do that on the Tokyo and Route 5/7 Tracks already

GTA? I hope you mean without the violence that it implies.

Traffic? Again we're still a bit iffy on that, because the inclusion of traffic means that we would be street-racing which as we have already established is something that I, and PD doesn't endorse.

Offline gameplay? Sounds good, I see no problem with that point. :)

I would love a free roam mode just to cruise with friends would be fun and be able to go off road on mud, dirt, and other terrain types. Also stop at gas stations to fill up your gas and i would like it to have an offline mode. Im gonna buy an xbox 360 just for forza horizon which looks sweet. http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/02/forza-horizon-shots-details-surface/

The game will maintain the physics from Forza 4, but optimized for off-road as there will be 65 types of terrain ranging from mud and gravel to grass and asphalt.
It’s an open-world racer with dynamic day and night cycles, and takes place in Colorado.
