No reason why that couldn't work, in theory, on console.

There kind of is. It costs time and money to get builds or patches approved on console. That doesn't need to happen on PC, they can just push whatever they want.

While one could technically do an early access type thing on console, I suspect it would be difficult to make it financially viable. The whole point of early access is generally to get some funds to carry on development, if you're losing a chunk of that to added approval costs that's far less appealing.

Indeed, that's why we couldn't test the console versions of pCARS, as much as SMS would've wanted us to. Each and every build would have to be approved by the manufacturers before it could be made available and since that isn't a quick turnaround (1+months) it would be a pointless exercise, the build would always be too out of date.

With Playstation's recent (since ps4) indie push, they certainly made updates cheaper and easier for devs. So in that vein, added to the seeming drift towards faster, pc-style upgrades, with the neo, I think this may happen at some point in the future. Maybe...

Certainly not now though, I agree on that.

Also, I cannot wait for GTS on VR... Well excited!

IMO, Early Access is only for the truly desperate people.

Or, for those who would like to be part of the development of a game, to see how a game develops over a period of time, to have some input into how the game turns out, to lend a hand to a dev who is struggling to get their game made, and a bunch of other reasons other than desperation ;)

Where on earth did you get desperation from?

Perhaps he means it less as 'crazy ****ers' and more like 'super fan who desperately wants to play the game'...?

I don't see it like that either. What if it's a completely new IP? Can't be a superfan then. It's more like seeing something you think might be good and taking a punt on it. To be honest I think the comment was made without any thought and it was a pretty stupid thing to say?

Maybe, but yeah, I wouldn't be averse to this early access model on consoles, would be interesting to see if it could work... If the platform holders allow it.

True to a degree but there is clearly a large variance. A few post-release patches to add a few finishing touches to features, add in some little features you didn't quite get finished and add in some more content, I'm cool with that. What isn't cool is taking weeks or even months to add major, core features of the game. Like I say, hopefully that isn't the case this time around.

Wait one year and buy the game with all dlc and patches included. It's the only way to get a complete and stable game these days.

I'm going to hop in to Pcars action again after a couple of months brake hoping it will deliver a complete experience. ;) (I know it won't)

Just wondering; what are you missing in PCars?
I'm not GordonS, but personally, I'm missing fun and progression. Why would I play through the career mode when I could just set up a quick race and make it whatever I want, and drive any car from the outset? Forza, as much as I enjoy it, has pretty much the same problem with how it starts throwing high-end machinery at you very quickly, but at least the cars in that game feel like cars and not boats. And another thing I find is that SMS' games take themselves far too seriously. The atmosphere of the games just feels wrong.

So you need to be forced into a linear progression path for it to work for you? That might be saying more about you than it does about the game.

I want to have a reason to utilize all of the game's features. There's no reason for me to play the PCARS career, so it's useless and I don't want it.

Not sure what you mean but in career you start down and move up based on your results if you choose to start from the beginning, that is.

Offtopic sorry:
Two of our communities have abandoned Pcars for at least a couple of reasons: ffb flaws and lobby instabilities, maybe those two are the worst. Also Dirt Rally came and attracted people.

Perhaps we try to gather together and online a couple of times during summer.
As far as I'm concerned, I'll purchase the new track expansion and attack the combined Nürburgring track, soon. :p

Well that clears that up:lol:
It may seem like small potatoes to you, but it's a pretty big issue to me, and in the end, that's all that matters IMO.

If you enjoy pCARS, that's great. It's fantastic that you find enjoyment in something I don't. It's just that there's a lot of decisions in that game that I don't really agree with, and sometimes the physics just feel off to me. Anyway, let us now return to our regularly scheduled topic

I thought I only got the jerking motion stuff in online because I have terrible internet.
You can get that kind of behaviour in any game depending on internet connections, your ping etc. It can be mediated or worsened by netcode I assume.

I'm confused, in the first sentence you say you want a sense of progression but in the next sentence you imply you would prefer to just jump straight to the content you want. Which is it?

Incidentally, with the PCARS model you can do both - just with the former you have to force yourself to start low rather than the game do it for you. Having an open quick race mode doesn't make the linear option go away. But with Gran Turismo (and plenty of other racing games) there is no choice. And as much as I've enjoyed progressing through GT Mode throughout the series, I can't possibly see how less freedom to play the game the way you want is better than more freedom.

PD would do well in my opinion to at the very least bring back something like GT4's Arcade mode, which was quite sizeable on startup (about 100 cars if I remember right).

Let me rephrase: I want a career mode that has a point. Having a career mode that isn't purely extraneous feels more gratifying and adds something to the experience. When I buy a car and drive it, it feels better to me because I earned it; it is mine. You just don't get that same feeling in pCARS.
