The GT4 Aston sounds like a shifter-kart revving up to ridiculous RPMs.

You do realise there are three audio settings within the game (GT5P) itself: Living Room, Small Theatre and Large Theatre. Unless you have proper Home Theatre setup, I'd opt for the first two. Even through my TV speakers, the second option (Small Theatre) plus a slight reduction in treble (-3 to -4 db) and an increased Bass, bring about a much improved sound.
And having a proper PS3 setting makes a huge difference. I can't remember my exact setting since I've sold my PS3 a few months ago. But it's worth doing a bit research and understand your basic audio setup. I remember when I finally got the right setting (on the PS3), the sounds of the cars improved significantly.
SAme hereand i create some on my ableton setup.
But GT4 sound is just hidious
here GT4 DB9 :
GT5P DB9:
Which is better ?
The DB9 in GT4 (even modded) has a very convincing low end, grunty sound. I just think PD needed to use better high RPM samples.
And then, I pulled the trigger a little bit too quick, just reminding me how far gt5 still is from the "real" sound....

Sounds so f... cool. But it is real sound mixed with gt video. Damn.
Yeeh, but it's not just the engine sounds we want improved, its the whole gamma.
Off the bat in the Z4 and Miata videos, you can right away hear a huge difference from even prologue, especially in the shifting and TIRE squeals which are near if not perfect.
The engine startup on the Shelby GT350R was to die for, like a lions roar.
and that was a standard car.
Looking good.
I'm quite intrigued that PD allows for the engine to be started up in the garage in the game.
Here's where this could go wrong...
If the recordings of the "start-ups" are actually real recordings of the cars, then if PD doesn't match a similar sound to the car in gameplay, they're almost doing a dis-service to themselves (and us) because with the start ups...there basically saying, hey this is what this car should sound like...
...and then if you go to drive the car and it sounds like crap, there's an easy comparison of what it should sound like...in the same game.
So (even if the start ups are real recordings), hopefully the in-game sounds are really damn close...otherwise it's almost like false advertising![]()
Yep, it's definitely inviting the riot if that turns out to be the case. It's happened in a lot of games in the past (quite distant in some cases).
It's presence means one of two things:
Inconsistency in a product of perfectionism is a big no-no.
- PD are finally comfortable with their engine sounds to use these recordings alongside those generated in real-time.
- Whoever is in charge of the foley / effects on the introductions and trailers has had an influence on the menus, too...

inconsistency ? lol standard vs premium say hi ! 2D trees with 500 000 polygons cars say hi too ! and in all previous GT games : realism but no damage ! in GT1-2-3 : realism but no ghost drivers !
I mean technical limitations generally lead to inconsistency lol
That was kind-of my point...
even on PS3 yamauchi talked about hardware limitations for implementing his ideas... I wonder when we will arrive at a time when deelopers are no longer limited by the hardware but by their brains and skills...
with PS3 developers already could do great things ! (uncharted 2 the best example, maybe GT5 too when the game will get released )
I hope everyone realises that the DB9 in the GT4 video there has a racing exhaust! GT4 isn't known for it's sound fidelity of modified cars, in fact it's very, very inconsistent!
Here's a better example for comparison, a standard DB9
Still sounds inferior.

As for your sound setup, AngloAmerican, I don't really know what to suggest. I know the PS3 can output audio via a separate path to the video (e.g. SPDIF or optical instead of the HDMI connection, which I assume you're using for video.)
Basically, if you can find something "cheap" (but quality) enough with either of those types of connectivity, and preferably with direct support for Dolby Digital formats (for example; useful for BluRays, and some games - e.g. GT5) that'd possibly be ideal.
Maybe if you ask around in some of the other areas here, someone with a better working knowledge of the current hardware can point you in the right direction! 👍
EDIT: maybe this is a good place to start! Sorry I'm not much more help.
GTR on High Speed Ring, sounds different to Prologue's GT-R
Well he is obviouly playing it on the Easiest level with all aids on
The engine braking change in sound can be heard after he finishes the race. That's something Prologue doesn't have
Here is what we need to make a definitive judgment on whether or not sounds have been improved for GT5... a video of the Corvette C5R in GT5. That thing sounds like such a monster in real life and in GT4, the sound PD gave it, is actually so bad that it's funny. If it even sounds like it has an American V8 now, I will be satisfied.
Yea, cars modeled recently that have V8s seem to sound pretty good, but I want to see what PD does with all the old standard cars that had horrendous sound.
how did you get the Companions to work on the PS3? I thought the USB ports on the PS3 cannot transmit sound data.
