No. It's an easy, free way to communicate with large groups of friends and it's a good way to show everyone my photos when I want to. As long as you stay away from the stupid applications etc. it's pleasant enough to use.

You know the worst thing about Facebook is that you cant hide your friends list FROM YOUR FRIENDS. I want the list to be totally private (a bit like MSN messenger). There are going to be groups of people that you want to keep separate from others. People are so damn nosey and everyone you know should just be visible to you and no one else.

You used to be able to hide everything by creating a friends group with limitations and then put everyone in it. But Facebook removed that with the 09' update. Ofcourse Facebook being a 'social networking tool' would never allow you to hide everything! They are actually going the other way trying to reveal more.

Thats why I dont use it, if you want to get to know people go out and see them! Don't steal them from other peoples lists!

Robin.

I like Facebook. I've reconnected with a bunch of old friends I never would have talked to again. Then again there's just not enough content to burn more than about 15 minutes a day there, so I can hardly say it has swallowed much of my time.

Pretty much sums it up for me - minus the whole reconnecting thing. It's a convenient way for me to keep in touch with folks with whom contact would otherwise be infrequent. That being said, I don't spend much time on it. I think a lot of people go way overboard on facebook - I don't feel the need to inform the world when I take a dump.

Facebook can be a great way to share information - take last night for example. We had a minor earthquake here about 11.30pm. There was nothing reported on the news for at least an hour but within minutes we knew how far it spread over Adelaide because of all the updated statuses.

You know what's funny about facebook? I've had to remove all the girls I used to go to high school with. Once I add them, they are so damn annoying with the stupid crap that they post all the time that I can't deal with it anymore. I should probably just look for a way to disable their thing coming up on my wall. But the fact that there are so many people like that that I have to assume it's normal behavior for adult (adult?) human beings is sick.

Sorry for the lousy grammar.

I'm starting to like Facebook a bit now. Not much excitement. I don't chat much, do much activity. But I guess it's ok, decent. :sly:

I only have 2 people from high school on Facebook.

Makes me realize how much I hated those years.

I can image the invention of Facebook was like a dream come true for girls.

Hover any of their posts in your news feed and click "hide". I did that with 95% of the pages I became a fan of/liked, so only my friends and pages that I want to see show up in my feed :dopey:

I just don't use the thing.

Thank you sir. If I was rich, you would get premium. Again.

I just don't use the thing.

Yeah, I wouldn't but it makes it easy to argue with and/or amuse my professors and college folk.

I'd still use it. But I don't use any of those crappy apps, or random groups that are made (ok, not all of them). But there is someone with my name who's looking at friending everying else withmy name on FB.. so that's gotta be interesting... plus. I'm not one of those guys who needs to post a status update ev'ry ten seconds. I think I've done only two status updates . And I joined, I think, in August or.. September?

Yes, I would go back in time and punch my brother right in the face as he started creating my account without my knowledge.

By the time I found out about it that day I had 20 friends, six messages, and five chat requests. At that point it was out of control for my brother and he sent me the login info. What he forgot was that by listing my place of employment (over 300 employees) and school history everyone who may have a link to me was sent a message. He had just intended to sign up a few joint friends and family members and didn't expect a swarm of stuff from people he had never even heard of before.

I logged in, posted that it was a joke from my brother and changed all the login info. I haven't touched it since, but I still occasionally get email notices of random friend requests from people I hadn't seen since high school. Hey, we haven't talked in at least 12 years. We clearly don't run in the same circles or even visit the same places on a regular basis. Let's keep it that way. Judging by the reunion committee's ability to contact me I am still easily found without the aid of Facebook. If you, or I, really cared we would still be talking today. I know this because I do still talk to the people I really cared about.

I do need to turn off those email notifications, but I don't want to waste the time logging back in.

Not to claim that you or anyone are insincere, as life can be busy: Maybe I listen to my grandmother too much, but I question the sincerity of anyone who hasn't talked to me in over a decade and acts like we are friends when someone makes it as easy as a click of a button to reconnect. I also question the guy that made that application for free, and more and more it seems we should.

Why not just mark them as spam in your email inbox?

Sure you will still get them, but you won't see them as they will be in a sea of other crap.

It's the account I already devoted to crap anyway, but I occasionally sort through it to make sure I didn't miss anything important.
