Mass Dampers - Illegal!

So by slowing/eliminating the vibrations, less drag is created, and since the air flows smoother, the downforce maximises? Neat idea... Too bad they banned it.

Yes and the downforce itself is more stable and consistent, I quite agree its a neat idea.

I have to say that this (for me) does go against recent FIA statements that they wish to make F1 technology more relevant to road car applications. Tuned Mass Dampers have potential for road car use and development, so to ban them seems like a step in the wrong direction to me.

It makes it more consistent, adds stability, and probably functions like normal dampers, only better. What's not good about it? It seems like a huge leap forwards in terms of high-speed stability, and therefore, I assume, more and more supercars will start getting those systems, and, as always, what supercars have today, the average econo-box will have in 10-15 years. This FIA decision goes against that statement, of making F1s more road-like. My first tought when I understood what it does was "This'd be awsome on a normal car"...
