I understand it has a massive following within the US and I fully expected someone to say it has a following outside of the US when posting on a forum dedicated to racing, but to say it has a huge following in the UK is ridiculous.

Not once did I mention UK only. 👍

These were pretty disappointing. SRF locked on???

Beat them all the first try passing all the cars on the 3rd or 4th lap. Dunno why they hyped this so much.

On first run I couldn't agree more. BUT, actually started to have a good laugh doing this. It's like playing games like "Ridge Racer" or "Driver" when you normally don't use SRF.

PD should basically have stuffed Jeremy Clarkson in the car with you, screaming things like "Pedal to the metal! Moooaaaarr poooooweeeerr! I'm a driving GOD!!" the whole race... :)

Cake walk. First time all around with the only controllable assist being ABS = 1 (DS3 user). I like my cars a lot more loose than what I was offered to drive; car plowed a lot.

I am a two footed (fingered?) driver and use the brake while on the gas to get the car pointed the right way. Seems that the stability thing over rides that functionality and I was plowing way more than I desired; in a NASCAR no less.

Overall, easy money. Nifty suit. I do wish they would have made them longer where tire wear/fuel or something of that nature would come into play.

Okay. I decided to go in and try these races again. I don't get it. I drive as perfectly as possible and only manage to pass 2 cars at the most and then they manage to catch up. What settings are you people using that are finding these races so easy? I've tried with everything off and everything on full but it doesn't seem to matter. I'm litterally going to destroy my PS3 with a hammer if I can't figure this out. I actually had to just turn it off and walk away because I was about 3 seconds away from destroying my DFGT and the PS3. I can't afford to smash anymore wheels or controllers despite how great it feels.

I don't know if you checked or not but you have to turn traction control off every time before you start the race, I have read this complete thread and nobody has mentioned this. I started one of them with it still set at 5 and only one by 8 seconds (think it was Rome bit not possitive) and wondered what the heck happened to my driving skills. Tc can really slow ya down alot!

I wish people would stop complaining it was too easy, etc like they speak for everyone. I tried this over & over and only got BRONZE

[edit: Suzuka is the track i refer to, trying to get gold for the suit!]

And yes I guess I am a terrible driver. Dunno why I love these racing games so much (because they dont love me back)

Going to scour this thread for tips. I had a hard time last night. wanted to throw GT5 out the window

I can't help thinking PD have somewhat missed the point by using the standard format. Forgetting the strategic aspect, surely the thrill of NASCAR is being feet (inches) away from identical cars in all directions at 200 mph; trying to catch the draft to gain the advantage and avoid the collisions. I thought the Jeff Gordon challenges somewhat captured this (especially with cockpit view), rather than negotiating these big lumps around tracks for which they were not designed.

Ok for what they are, though, and decent winnings to be had.

was a welcome XP and cash boost 👍

could do with some more

Can someone explain what does "SRF" mean? Tried using google, etc but to no avail.

Skid Recovery Force. It's basically a feature which increases grip beyond the norm of real world physics to stop your car from skidding. If there's anything in GT that is really unrealistic, this is it.

Skid Recovery Force. It's a "cheat" (or if you prefer, arcadish) driving assist that has got no real life equivalent, as it increases magically tire grip when driving on the limit, making car control easier.

Did Rome today, and it took me 2 tries to win. I have never run Rome reverse so it took me 1 attempt to learn the track flow.

same here, but I will try it again today.

be very patient, by use of engine deceleration with very light braking (1 - 25%) very early before a curve even (shows up 6-10 car lenghts ahead) starts, taking the apex with 0 - 10% throttle only, then mash your beast pedal to the metal on all straights rinse and repeat for every curve (know the track). don't get caught in understeer, or red tires for longer than a second. Drift behind opponents in the distance, shift at peak RPM, these cars have tall gear ratios.

you should lead a victory lap or two, in each race, Rome reverse is challenging, I won it at the last stretch, with some mishaps early on.

I can imagine sitting in these boxed cars, with foils for doors and rooftop flapping and roaring low frequency bass vibrations throughout the race... so these arent your typical Mazda 6's with sound proofing interiors.

Bring on the next seasonal!

Thanks a lot for the tips and answering my question. shame on me for not remembering skid recovery force. I usually drive with all aids off except ABS turned on occasionally

Gonna try to apply all these tips tonight!

Actually its a "driving assist" that makes you go faster if you exagerate your corner speed beyond the car limits

Hate it, altough it did help at Loeb Special Events :)

You have to remember this:

You are driving cars with very powerful, tremendous torque engines, very heavy and not so big downforce. You can´t drive it like a Le Mans or a GT car.

It's lot heavier and has less downforce. Drive gently, brake earlier, smooth trajectories on curves, don't smash the acellerator, it will just turn power in smoke not speed, even with SRF. Try not to hit the other cars too much as it seems this challenge has enhanced car degradation due contact, it would turn undriveable by the end of the race. Just drive it like a normal FR car with comfort tires :dopey:

Less braking,a lot of heal toeing. Thats how i attacked it.

Yes, this is one thing I really hate. Every time you start a new race you have to remember to turn TCS = 0, all other aids off except ABS = 1. First corner is usually when I remember...WTH, why is this car...oh yeah, forgot to turn off all the computer assists. *Grumble* *Grumble* <Start>, <Running Man> <Yes>....

Yeah, I'm sure much of GT5's audience isn't super familiar with Nascar.

Which in my opinion makes GT5's inclusion of Nascar particularly interesting for Europe. They can fully appreciate what Nascar is (delicate control of a ridiculous car). They can understand why an F1 driver is challenged by it.

But they only get a little. It's been over a year and this is the first Nascar seasonal. You're only getting a taste. Meanwhile, Americans are getting a nice taste of rally events. Etc etc.

I suspect many Japanese like Nascar a lot. They tend to enjoy things that are hits in the states.

American Nascar fans probably fine GT5's Nascar ok but not great. You get beautiful car models and if you look for it, online races with people who take it seriously (perhaps too seriously), but I'm sure they really miss 90% of their tracks and all the rules and those ridiculous caution periods.

There really isn't a form of racing I don't mind playing with at least a little bit, so GT5 really works for me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this. The last lap at Suzuka is really bad if you've spent the rest of the race being physical with the AI.

@MM, excessive yellows and the parade laps that follow are a scourge to NASCAR. Give me a break!!!

Hey, don't shoot the messenger!

I think they (rampant full course cautions) are incredibly stupid and the opposite of real sport. You can dominate an event, but lose your entire lead ten times and then be passed on an artificial wreck fest on the last lap. Obviously the point is that it creates suspense. You never know who will win until the last lap. But it's not a true test of endurance. And it makes the first 95% of the race terribly boring because nothing means anything.

But I'm not a Nascar fan. I am happy with tasting it, and I wouldn't even mind if GT5 had one or two completely accurate (rules) Nascar races. It's just not something I'll get into beyond that point.

The fact is that a lot of people LOVE the drama. I can't think of any other motorsport where the racer's personalities are brought into conflict and smack talk so much. It's almost like an online race full of children.

Anyway, once you drive these cars in GT5, I think you do come to respect that they aren't really children turning easy laps. The cars are very difficult to master. The rest of it is a silly show, though.

This seasonal is sadly too easy. I was especting something more, like the pro events.

I'm not a fan of Nascar being British but I sure do love the growl sound of these Nascar's. It's always Days of Thunder to me. Loose is fast and on the edge of control. :D

Can we grind these events? I haven´t tried yet...

Ugggggggh stupid seasonal. Turned abs off right away and was driving trial mt and passed someone than like 3 sec later he crashes into the back of me and I was gonna restart but figured I mine as well get some practice with NASCAR. I won it so easy. Idk how there supposed to be all the same when my car flew by them like it's nothing. Worst part was I did the second or third race and I exit and it goes to that god damn black screen with the GT logo that never stops loading. Than I get signed out of psn and it won't sign back in. I may have to redo that race now cause of that dumb loading problem. We just got a update why didn't they fix it.

Don't think so. The other seasonal I tried after I won gold, if you won again you got no credits or goodies.

Can we grind these events? I haven´t tried yet...

I'm afraid you can't.

I'm sure I'm not the only guy who secretly hoped for an oval race that you could repeat for 500k. That way you could just tune out for an hour and max out your credits.

Back to The Ring with my Toyota 7.
