I don't see how that has anything to do with it.

Assuming all they've done differently in the games so far is change miles to kilometers and do language translation I don't think it would be difficult. All the regions would have to be able to 'speak a common language' in order for it to work, but I don't think that's difficult either. I don't have any examples toward or against this, but surely there is something? Final Fantasy Online? Fantasy Star Online?

Come to think of it, I don't recall any online games where the other players spoke a language other than my own. I guess that would keep the frustration level down with the general gamer populace. Though being able to hit Monaco with F1 cars against a few blokes from Europe would be pretty fun (:

oops sory i meant contact is in online contact meaning we can communicate on the computer world wide and seeing that ps2 is just like a computer or it is i dont see why it wouldnt be able to play games world wide if its also online

ya right. every online game ive played has had people speaking languages other than english. the only one i can remember where they dont is socom, and thats because when i play, i play in the canadian servers. but games like diablo, diablo 2, starcraft, gunbound, ragnarok, quake, counter strike and whatnot ive seen people speak in a language where my computer interprets as mumbo jumbo.

yea it would be grat if we could play europe and japan, i dont care about the rest of asia and southamerica. But you have a point, they need a translator or worldwide games, and chat. not so much the actual gameplay, but the chat.

I know this might sound dumb, but to play online do you just buy the network adapter, plug it in and play? do you have to subscribe or anything like that? im gonna buy one soon mostly for gt4 when it comes out

You will need to subscribe to an internet service, I'm not sure if it's broadband only though.

if you have teh internet already you dont need to subscribe, on the other hand if you donot have internet, then you will need to get internet

I think I would, I have NTL home 600kps, and I don't think you can just unplug frmo the PC and plug into the PS2, if anyone else has this or a similar pack can you give me info, I would ring NTL but they would probably say I would need to subscribe to a seperate pack even if I didn't have to.

I never though it was THAT simple, I'm not the most technical of people, I get by though.

Well you would need a router if you wanted to always have the PC and PS2 using the net at the same time otherwise you will always be unplugging and plugging in cords. I would assume you would have to have a fairly decent speed broadband considering the problems that PD are having with the online stuff.

You guys do know you would need the network adapter?

Actully I'm not so sure that is the case... As far as I'm aware you DO have to pay extra... Something like an extra £5 a month.

I'm not sure online play via PS2 will work without this. Although to be honest I don't actully know what they give you for this extra...

It would be nice to organize some kind of official league in each country and the 10 best drivers could race in a European or North American league... and then, the 10 best racers of each super leagues may participate and fight for winning the world championship...

And the final winner, gains a real car ... or maybe two...

You see ? would be so exciting !!!!

( but everyone with the same car for one race and the same configuration... no change or tuning allowed !! only skills and luck)

It would be fun with the Fiat Panda !!!!

When the original World Rally Championship game came out a few years ago there was a competition where you could win a A real Lancer Evo. It followed the championship, when there was a round of the WRC in real life you would complete the same rally in the game. You got this long line of letters and had to enter them into the official WRC web site. The winner with the most points at the end of the championship got the car. (Obviously not every country could enter the competition.)

Would be fun to have something like that. Guess it depends on how well the online component is integrated into the game.

Unlike X-Box Live!, PS2 online play is completely free, except for a few games that have an ever evolving game world. Currently, the only two games that fit that bill are Final Fantasy XI and Everquest Online. All other titles, and there are many of them, are completely free. Whether GT4 will require subscription fees remains to be seen, but in light of the above I consider it highly unlikely.

B.t.w., one of the original reasons that was stated last year for the delay of GT4 was the trouble PD had for crossing the region boundaries in online play. That would mean that are, in fact, making it possible for people in all regions to play together.

Yeah, the differences in PAL and NTSC are similar to someone using a different screen resolution in Quake. The physics modifications can be overcome, but it takes a bit more programming.

The differences used to be greater, but the PS2 has an underlying engine that can run at say 200hz, which then converts quite well to 50 or 60 hz. Still, there are some differences between the US, Japan and PAL versions of GT3, partly due to the fact that they were released at different times and thus with different levels of bugfixing ;).

yea, the competing continent thing would be awsome, and i dont know about europe, but in the U.S. we dont have to pay to play online with the PS2. and you would need a router, most likey a wireless one, unless you want lost of cable running thorough your house.

Oh I know PS2 online is free (aside from FFXI and such).

I'm talking about NTL. They would have you pay an extra £5 on top of whatever you pay already for your current broadband. You also need a PC to setup the connection (or so they say).
